Flash SM-G920T to SM-G920I? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know whether it's ok / possible to flash SM-G920T to my SM-G920I phone? I'm on T-Mobile and would like to enable VOLTE and WiFi calling, as well as get 5.1.1.
I bought the SM-G920I version as I still have T-Zones unlimited data for $6/mo and didn't want to upgrade.
Thanks,
diznanl

You may have problems with the flashing part of the bootloader and the modem

me too!
Hi diznanl , I have the same question. I was really hoping the community had more experience with this one. Please post if you went forward with the firmware change. Thanks!

I got rid of my g920i and picked up the g920TZKAXAR -- it's the unlocked US GSM version, so I get the Samsung Pay, warranty, and all the T-Mobile bands.

A user from the below link say you can do that

The update rolling out now is for i9023 users. I'm not even aware of anyone using i9020T that actually got the OTA notification.

What do you mean get locked? There is no "T-Mobile" release. The release rolling out now is to the international i9023 users. T-mobile users will likely get the exact same build but there haven't build any OTA notifications for those users (but you can manually install it on a T-mobile version).
Hi Bozzykid,
I was referring to this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1395828
Since its mentioned TMO ie T mobile version, i am unsure whether to install this because my phone belongs to india and its SIM FREE what i am afraid that whether this will Network lock my phone to T-mobile

There is no such thing as a T-mobile version. The i9020 and i9020T run the same software. Whether you are on T-mobile or not makes no difference. Most international users have the i9020. i9023 is the same hardware except the screen.

What is the unlocked G920T?

Best Buy sells an unlocked version of the G920T - http://goo.gl/bk4ukE
It's not T-Mobile. It's unlocked and has no carrier bloat - just the usual Samsung stuff. It shows "4G" for LTE. (Edit: Correction - after the OTA referenced below, it shows H+ and LTE)
It came with 5.1.1 out of the box, build ending in COG3.
It had a 272mb software update immediately available that took it up to the build ending in COK1 and added the Android Security Patch Level line showing 2015-11-01.
Just curious how this model fits into the other unlocked models (f, i, etc.). Did Samsung simply take the T-Mobile model and sell a variant unlocked with no T-Mobile influence?
Sorry to bump this but I'm seeing a few more of these in the wild now and trying to figure it out. It's gotta have the same internals as the T-Mobile variant since the model number is the same, I'm assuming anyway? The full model is SM-G920TZKAX, but the packaging and phone just shorten it to T. The T-Mobile model is SM-G920TZDATMB. I guess knowing what the letters after G920T mean would be helpful.
From what I've read it appears to be a unlocked version of the T-Mobile variant. Can't find much information about it.
I purchased the unlocked version from Best Buy yesterday for $450. Rooted it and could not be happier.

What method did you use? I'm concerned about doing any mods due to not having the right software to flash back to (which we don't have right?).
I used the follow root method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/galaxy-s6-root-5-1-1-variants-t3147074
As for going back to stock, you can always use smart switch, or ODIN back to stock rom.

I just bought this yesterday as an open box for $380. I was worried that is wouldn't have LTE band 17 for AT&T as the normal 920T is listed as missing this band. The Best Buy version does have band 17 and I'm connected on it now. Very happy with the phone so far.

you can also see the specs for the phone on Samsung's website. http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SM-G920TZKAXAR
4G FDD LTE: B1(2100), B2(1900),B3(1800),B4 (AWS),B5(850),B7(2600),B12(700),B17(700),B20(800)
Firmware?
Love the phone with no carrier bloatware, would have preferred 64GB but I can make due. I would like to root it but not without having factory firmware to fall back on. Even though it's a 920T it's has no T-Mobile apps so I'm pretty sure I can't load a T-Mobile ROM on it. If anyone runs across formware for a SM-G920TZKAXAR PLEASE let us know. TIA
Does this work with Samsung Pay?
Has anyone tried getting this to work with Samsung Pay? I saw on a Slickdeals thread that it will not work ... would love confirmation.
Also, and I know this is a very, very slight chance anyone will know this, but -- will this work with my old, granfathered T-Zones data plan?

Yes. You can load T-Mobile firmware onto it. You just get all the TMobile extra stuff. Thats the same "unlocked" model sold by Rent A Center.

Currently this variant is awaiting official upgrade, most nougat roms are not going to work fully as call audio is broken, you may need to wait till official update is released to have all functions.

Using apps that require root

I'm considering getting the s7, but after hearing about the bootloader issue I had a few questions. I use Titanium backup, Pandora cracked, and lux, and I was wondering how being unable to root has affected anyone else?

But if the international version doesn't have the hardware for the US, he's ****ed. And I've heard VoLTE and B12 doesn't work on the international version.
International isn't an option. Need to get it thru tmobile for the monthly payments.
How would I know what international version to get that will work with my Tmobile US service?

g930w8 - mistakenly given?

I am with Rogers in Canada and was upgrading my plan that included a good deal on a s7 if I wanted it - they dropped the phone off at my office but I believe it's the Bell version - is that correct SM-G930W8? I've not opened the box as I plan to sell it - should I ask for the Rogers version, is it better for some reason? Thanks
Sorry, I'm a Nexus guy, don't know the Samsung phones really at all
w8 is the canadian version, when you pop in a carriers sim it'll download their appropriate bloatware.

Kinda, but im sure if you flash a w8 kernel the rom will work since all the roms are made for exynos. Your other option is the 930f which is the international version, but that's no reason to get rid of the w8.

download the rogers firmware from sammobile and join batstock rom telegram support channel. The OP can help you out. All you have to do is upload a file from the download there and he'll add the csc to a flashable twrp zip that you can install to fully enable all rogers features.

next thing you want to try, make sure your build.prop product name matches that of the rogers phone.
also, my carrier disables feature if it detects root such as wifi calling. if you have magisk hide and an app for wifi calling uou may want to try hiding those apps from root.

I already called Rogers tech and VOLTE and WIFI Calling don't work on Android phones that was not from Rogers. No matter what you do, its the IMEI number that triggers their system to enable it on their end.
Unfortunately all carriers including Bell, Telus, Fido, Virgin and Freedom Mobile do this.
if it trully is incompatible, it is more likely to do with the difference between th band availability between the international model and canadian model... a quick google search will allow you to compare band availvility between phones and what bands are used for the carrier.
i don't believe it though, that just makes it hardee for them to aquire clients with existing handsets.
