Hey guys, I was just wondering if it is possible that someone can build CM12 or any other ROM using the UBER toolchain. I came across this and found that it was really useful and it could help our device run smoother. So I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me if this is possible. Thanks.

Yes, as Zelendel said, there's no fast and easy way. Only slow and steady members wins the race. But if you want to tweak or theme your ROMs, try getting used with Android Kitchens, that would be a nearest bet for doing it the painless way.
If you are looking for building ROMs from source, then first of all read as many tutorials available, and then try doing it. You won't be 100% successful in the initial times, but you can improve gradually.
About Kernels, I pretty much didn't get you how to write your name in the boot! If you are talking about the boot splash image, it could be changed with dsixda's kitchen I believe.

Hello everyone....I'm not a great developer...yet I never saw a thread in this forum about the possibilities of dual boot...
Can some experts take this seriously..
Wouldn't it be freaking cool to select an os from start-up..
Two os installed and the user chooses the one he wants...like cm10 and stock...
Any ideas or possibilities???
Hope this isn't a foolish.question
Hit the thanks button..it does not cost you anything.
it's worth something for me...

it's possible and there's a lot of method to do that. you don't have to build a kernel to do it. you can do it by simply modify the ramdisk.

If we could get first CM based on Cyanogen mode Kernel. We can get MIUI(Once KK MIUI released) and Ubuntu.
@b00tbu9 this week all will be done, @uberlaggydarwin (Brinly) will release fully functional CM .
But you know what, you can check his github for sources etc.
Find him on G+ , talk with him, and tell your plans , he might give what you want

Hey,
I am jumping the gun a bit but I was going to be getting involved in building custom roms for the S5 (once SS is available.) I figure I might as well start now and if we never get SS (I'm sure we will in due time) at least I will have started with getting experience.
I've searched the internet and found some great guides to building custom roms. I am not a total noob but am new to building roms.
I would like if you all could help me out and point me in a good direction on xda or the web for rom building information so I can give it a go!
Also, I would like it if you guys would comment as to what you look for in a custom rom (stock touchwiz of course) so I can begin researching different mods as well!
I know I look for a good theme with themed apks, adblock hosts, bloat removed, call recording mods etc..
Thanks for helping me out!

I'd like to mention I like roms that don't have apps that are built in and won't update at the play store.
Thanks all who have sent info so far! Im at work but I plan on setting up my build environment when I get home and taking the dive!
I'm thinking of using linux which I heard is better than Windows 7.. That sound about right?

My best advice is to google everything you don't positively know. Also look to use git for comparing apks. Git and meld are a great combo.

By the way there are already aosp roms being built for this device. Check out the unified development sub forum. Those roms should be able to run on this variant. hope this gives you some insight on the people to talk to if you run into issues.

Except that unless your device is a DevEd right now, you won't be able to as we have no SS or any way to add a rom...

also to add what kprice said.. without an unlocked bootloader SS will only be able to flash roms compatible with the kernel/bootloader we have which would mean only stock based roms.. other than that, if this ever changes id love to work on aosp roms!

Hi guys.!!
By any chance, can we expect Android's Lollipop running on our very own Nexus S.?
I know this device is way old enough, but still any possibility for custom ROMs.!?
Hope we get the taste from at least a couple of them.!!!
