i take no credit for this as i did not create this recovery. all credit goes to teamwin for their twrp recovery.
neither myself or teamwin are responsible for anything that may happen to your phone by flashing this recovery or what you do with it after it is installed.
I HAVE ONLY DONE THIS USING ANDROID 5.0 AND 5.1. I DO NOT KNOW OR PROMISE IT WILL WORK ON ANY OTHER VERSIONS OF ANDROID (4.4) FOR THE LG G3 D850. YOU ARE DOING THIS WITH KNOWING YOU MAY HARM YOUR DEVICE AND THE CHOICE IS 100% YOURS AND NO ONE CAN OR WILL BE BLAMED FOR KILLING YOUR PHONE BUT YOU.
****EDIT: THERE IS A FASTER WAY I HAVE TRIED AND POSTED BELOW****
****NEW WAY****
first, you must be rooted and have bumpd twrp already installed which should be twrp version 2.8.6.1 from the original android development section here in the at&t lg g3 forum. i say this because you definetly have to be rooted and i already had bumped twrp 2.8.6.1 installed.
1. USING FLASHIFY CHOOSE RECOVERY IMAGE....
2. CHOOSE DOWNLOAD TWRP AND SELECT THE NEWEST VERSION.....
(IT WILL DOWNLOAD THE TWRP RECOVERY FOR THE D850.)
3. AFTER IT DOWNLOADS IT WILL ASK YOU IF YOUR SURE YOU WANT TO FLASH IT AND WILL SHOW THE FILE NAME WHICH WILL HAVE D850 IN IT....
(twrp-2.8.7.0-d850.img)
4. CHOOSE YES AND REBOOT NOW WHEN IT COMPLETES....
(YOU WILL BOOT INTO TWRP AND WILL BE READY TO DO WHAT YOU WILL WITH IT.)
****AS OF NOW I ASSUME ALL NEW VERSIONS CAN BE FLASHED THIS WAY UNLESS NOTED THAT NEWER VERSIONS CAN NOT. I WILL TEST AND POST ALL NEW VERSIONS AND CHANGE THE DIRECTIONS IF I HAVE TO USE A DIFFERENT METHOD. WHEN AN ANDROID M ROM MAKES ITS WAY TO OUR D850 THEN THIS METHOD MAY NOT WORK AND YOU SHOULD NOT TRY IT UNTIL IT IS PROVEN TO WORK ON ANDROID M****
****THE METHOD BELOW IS LONGER BUT I WILL LEAVE IT UP FOR ANYONE THAT WANTS TO USE IT INSTEAD OF THE NEW WAY ABOVE****
first, you must be rooted and have bumpd twrp already installed which should be twrp version 2.8.6.1 from the original android development section here in the at&t lg g3 forum
download the 2.8.7.0 .img file from this link https://dl.twrp.me/d850/ this link is to the download section that is only for our d850 phones so you dont download the wrong image.you can also use the twrp manager app to download the .img file but do not use twrp manager to flash the file or you will get a boot secure error whenever you try booting into recovery. it will never boot into recovery and will just hang on a black screen with the notification light flashing red and blue. if you use the twrp manager app to download the recovery make sure your downloading the recovery image for the d850 only!!!!
after you have downloaded the .img file from either the link or with the twrp manager app, open flashify and select recovery image. then browse to the twrp 2.8.7.0 .img file you downloaded and select it. let flashify flash it and select the option to boot into recovery when it is done. you now have the newest twrp recovery on your lg g3 d850!!!!
i have tested the new recovery and everything works. i have done an advanced wipe of dalvik system data and cache. a regular factory data reset. i have created a backup, and have flashed roms a kernel and xposed all without issue.(depending on your rom xposed may or may not work and may cause bootloops with the xposed mods you enable after flashing. make sure your flashing things you know work. this is my set up on the rom im using. everyones phone is different even if its the same model. dont kill your phone and blame me. if you dont know, dont do it!!!!)
i hope this thread helps anyone that wants the new recovery on their d850 g3 and that the instuctions are as clear as possible to insure the fastest and safest way to install the recovery without hurting your phone or getting a secure boot error.
again i take no credit for this recovery and i am not a developer. this is mearly an instruction manual and to let everyone know that the new twrp can be used and works on our g3 variants.
Plain and clear...!! ?
Just a quick question- could the same steps be followed if you have a previous build in order to udate TWRP version?

if your talking about a previous version of twrp then yes it shouldn't be a problem as long as your downloading and flashing the correct recovery image. i was on the bumped 2.8.6.1 twrp before i flashed this one. i used twrp manager and got the secure boot error but was all good when i used flashify instead. so yes if your using a d850 and on an older version of twrp then it should be fine as your just upgrading the recovery and nothing else. which version are you using right now?
@rob219
Thank you for the explanation!
I've been afraid to update cause all is working great and don't want to deal with bootloops. I'm on 2.8.6.1

i dont see why you wouldnt be able too. have you tried updating to the bumped 2.8.6.1 yet? id do that first then update to this one, but i dont see why you wouldnt be able to from what your on now if you follow the directions right. it should be ok.
I have a rooted D850 running the 21l software version. I installed TWRP using AutoRec. It installed version 2.8.6.1. Ever since software version 21l installed, I have not been able to get Flashify to work properly. I download the 2.8.7.0 .img file and flashed it with Flashify. Sure enough, the phone gave me the boot secure error. I pulled the battery, rebooted to the ATT system, and reflashed TWRP using AutoRec. I vaguely remember seeing another post somewhere saying not to use Flashify with software version 21l. YMMV, but just be careful in case.
Worked like a charm. This is the first time Flashify actually worked on my D850. Thanks!

and about the 21l software version i havent seen anything yet but if you tried it on that version and it didnt work then yes, probly best not to use flashify on that version. i was running a stock based 5.0 rom at the time of flashing it using flashify.
I used version Isai VL31 date configuration state version 855. I can use this thing is not ?.

yes you should be able to with flashify. make sure your model number is in the download before you flash it. also i have an at&t d850 and this post is made for and in the at&t lg g3 d850 forum not the d855 model so i take no responsibility if you try this and it kills your phone. i did not test or try this for any version of the lg g3 except the at&t lg g3 d850 version only.

I can't guarantee it will or it won't as I do not have that phone nor have I tried it on it. The safest way to find out would be to go to the the find 7 xda forum for your model and ask there. I don't want to say it will then have it mess your phone up. I have only tested and confirmed it working on the at&t g3. I no longer have this phone either as I have upgraded to a at&t g4 and s6 (both I think are no better than the g3 since development on both are slim and none)
I'm on rooted bump'd twrp 2.8.5.0, stock LP 5.0.1, 20f.
I should be able to simply download the 2.8.7.0 img from https://dl.twrp.me/d850/ and install it directly from my TWRP 2.8.5.0, no? No need for flashify or anything.. ?

you are correct. my instuctions are only for flashify but downloading the flashabke image and using twrp works fine too. i have updated this thread since i switched phones. no longer have my g3 and i wish i did because this at&t s6 really sucks.

Hello all,
I am receiving tomorrow my new Samsung S6 and i want to know some things.
- Unlocking bootloader (how to and link?) - have searched a bit and you need ODIN. but what is the best version etc
- Installing TWRP3.0 (how-to) - where to find the latest TWRP for samsung s6
And than one of the most important question, is there a stock android that doesent have any buys and fc's????
Bootloader is not locked on S6 (except AT&T variant)
You can get latest ODIN from here;
http://dl.sammobile.com/Odin3_v3.10.7.zip
If you want to install TWRP on it;
1- Update it to Marsmallow if you haven't
2- Install this TWRP via ODIN;
http://arter97.com/browse/S6/kernel/13.1/g920fi/arter97-recovery-g920fi-13.1-twrp_3.0.2-0.tar.md5
3- Boot up to TWRP and flash this ZIP before do anything on TWRP;

No, and there probably won't be any for a long time, but there are lots of TouchWiz-based custom ROMs.
so basicly i dont need any customezation? because you telling me there will not be released a custom stock rom? Even a CM13 rom
thats poor services!

Correct. The only custom ROMs availability now and the foreseeable future are based on TouchWiz, not AOSP Android or CyanogenMod.

While reading topics on the internet (google)
If you THE smartphone update to 6.0 you do not need to unlock the bootloader. is this correct?
For now i will not use TWRP because there isent a proper ROM for the S6. is this because the exynoss CPU? because QSD cpu's have always the better support for CM..

As I said before, there's no bootloader unlock because bootloader is factory-unlocked on Samsung devices.
If you want root, you should to use TWRP for install the latest SuperSU.
Yes, there's no CM ROM for Exynos 7420 right now. Maybe in future? Who knows...

But when i want to go in TWRP recovery i get the stock recovery! How to solve this issue
I'm having this issue as well on the T-Mobile variant. I have tried the unchecking auto reboot option in Odin and manually going to recovery. When I successfully flash according to Odin, I can't not get past the Recovery is not Seandroid enforcing boot.

The more updated the less likely your going to be able to root.. last time I heard of rooting the G3 you needed to downgrade to Kitkat
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Why KitKat? I hear there are some Nougat things but i've only seen this when google search for "root" methods specifically.

You have to downgrade. There are tutorials out there. I had to go back to 5.0 so I could root it, then install twrp with twrp manager, then install 7.0. There are no shortcuts. Use LG Tool to flash stock firmware. Here is one of the tutorials: https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-g3/general/downgrade-lg-g3-d850-to-kit-kat-t3437524

I went to RR 7.0. Some you have to bump. But, if you must have twrp, then download the rom, and gapps on your sd card. Go to twrp. Wipe, then install. I have did it and all runs good. Installing twrp is easy. Go to playstore. Get twrp manager and install twrp. Reboot to recovery. Boom.

what do you mean by "put room"? If you don't want to unlock your boot loader, you can still flash the stock unmodified rom through stock recovery.
If you don't want to unlock, you can try booting (not flashing) twrp through fastboot and then flash magisk. I've never tried it so I'm not sure if it'll work.

Yes, you can. No need to edit script or anything but before reboot you need to flash magisk or it wont boot.
You don't need any kind of recovery to install this update. Just download the rom file from asus website, put it in the main folder of your zenfone3 (remember the main folder, not the downloads. if you download the update from your phone it will directly go to downloads folder, so you have to move the update file to main folder) and in couple of seconds you will get a notification that says new update found. And it will update itself. You don't have to flash anything with any kind of recovery.
Only thing to pay attention is when you are downloading the update from official website which is HERE choose the World Wide (WW) version.

Hi guys,
I tried to update my Bln-l21 from emui 5 (nougat) to emui 8 (oreo) using the guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/guide-update-to-emui-8-t3807806
It worked so I went on to install TWRP from https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/development/rom-emui-8-0-0-honor-6x-dual-sim-t3794079, as suggested in a comment on the guide.
Only then I realized that in order to install Gapps I needed GSM installer, so I downloaded it, but it didn't work because it loaded TWRP instead of the stock erecovery.
I started to panic real bad
I tried reinstalling the firmware using hwota8 (since i had upgraded i figured i had to use that), but it completely destroyed my phone.
Now it wont boot, recovery wont boot and neither erecovery. I can only get it to enter fastboot.
I know, I am a total noob, but PLEASE help me out on this, i'm desperate.
Thank you so much
If you can enter into fastboot, just install twrp, boot into twrp and flash the ROM using HuRUpdater. Use your external storage for the HuRUpdater and the ROM files. The instructions are here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279
Before flashing through Hurupdater wipe system Cache Data Internal and Dalvik/ART Cache.

Just use the original files you used in the first place. The ones you downloaded from the thread. In terms of a custom ROM there is a thread in Custom ROMS section for Pixys OS. Just search stable Pie ROM for Honor 6x and install it. It's very smooth, etc.
This is a EMUI 8 ROM. If you want to go back to EMUI 5 don't use this. This will only restore EMUI 8. After that flash Custom ROM Don't go back to EMUI 5

I do have instructions over there but cause you asked I will tell.
Extract the Update.zip the large file. In it you will have an Update.app. Now serach for Huawei Update Extractor on XDA and Download it. Run the application and navigate to Update.app. Select it and in settings of Extractor uncheck the first option. Now extract Recovery_Ramdis.img and flash it. Luck.

Thank you so much! Now the phone is working again, I'm only having trouble flashing magisk (it doesn't show up among the apps) but i guess i can live without it for now...

Really there is no need for that. I did what anyone would do. Your thanks is enough.
Can you tell me what version you flashed. What TWRP did you use and what was the message after flashing. Now regarding Magisk, I am gonna assume you flashed the ZIP and the Magisk Manager app didn't show up, correct? To solve that just download Magisk Manager v6.0.1 and install the apk.
If that's not the issue then download any Root Checker app to see if device is rooted. Although I guess you need Magisk Manager to validate Root access. So just install Magisk Manager and let me know what it says. If it says device is unrooted then you probably need to flash Magisk again.
P.S: I don't have a PayPal. Not yet available in my country.

I really appreciate your kindness,
I flashed the latest version of magisk available from the official thread using the same TWRP from before (king of mezi TWRP from elemental rom thread) and it looked fine... Yes, the app didn't show up, I will try with the manager and I'll let you know.
[edit] I installed the manager and turns out it actually worked the first time and I'm already rooted!
Thank you again, you've been wonderful!
Glad to help.
All credit goes to @Dees_Troy and TeamWin for their work on the TWRP recovery, and @djrbliss for his developing of the loki tools. As I'm not developing anything, just sharing the patched image, I didn't feel that this should be in the development forum, but rather general.
This is a loki-patched version of TWRP so that the ATT S4 and VZW S4 users can flash newer ROMs that require the latest TWRP for compatibility. I chose to use the latest stable JFLTEXX TWRP, instead of the carrier variants, as JFLTEXX is compatible with both JFLTEATT and JFLTEVZW devices. I tried JFLTE TWRP, but I couldn't get it to boot to recovery after patching and flashing.
Most ROMs for JFLTE devices will have the following disclaimer:
AT&T USERS: since your bootloader is locked, you must be on the UCUAMDB or UCUAMDL bootloader.
VERIZON USERS: since your bootloader is locked, you must be on the VRUAMDK bootloader.
Do 'getprop ro.bootloader' in Terminal Emulator or through ADB shell to find out which bootloader you have.

If that pertains to you, and you want to give the recent pie ROMs being developed by devs like @side and @Buff99 a shot, this TWRP version is needed.
If your S4 DOESN'T have one of those listed bootloaders, but it IS either JFLTEATT or JFLTEVZW, read below, as you are on a bootloader that has been patched to block the Loki exploit:
Read @Hashcode's post HERE for info on SafeStrap, and what you'll be able to flash. I'm almost positive (iirc) safestrap means you can only flash stock-based ROMs.
Downloads:
IMG (using ATT aboot) (AFH)
IMG (using VZW aboot) (AFH) (thanks @grantd!)
ZIP (AFH)
work's for both carrier variants, as it check's against device bootloader to install proper recovery
ONLY ATT recovery is 3.3.1-0. VZW is still 3.2.3-0 as I don't have a VZW aboot.img to work with
TWRP variant: JFLTEXX
TWRP version: 3.3.1-0
IMG Steps:
1. Download to phone
2. Boot to recovery
5. Tap Install
4. Tap Install Image
5. Navigate to folder you saved the patched img to and select it
6. /** IMPORTANT!!! */ SELECT RECOVERY for which partition to flash image to.
7. Swipe to flash
8. Go back to TWRP main screen and reboot to recovery.
9. You should be good to go on 3.2.3-0!
ZIP Steps:
1. Download to phone
2. Boot to recovery
5. Tap Install
4. Navigate to folder you saved the patched zip to, and select it
5. Swipe to flash
6. Go back to TWRP main screen and reboot to recovery.
7. You should be good to go on 3.2.3-0!
Re-read instructions and realize I skipped 3 (just making sure you read the instructions )
King Arthur: "1, 2, 5."
Sir Bedevere: "3, sir...."
King Arthur: "3."
Old versions:
3.2.3-0 - ATT IMG
3.2.3-0 v2.1 ZIP
Peeeerfect
Good job someone's on the ball.
Cheers @mattgyver

You guys are doing the hard part. I just wanted to be able to partake in it all
It may not be much of a contribution, but this should help the people on those wonky bootloaders at least try out the ROMs.
My AT&T s4 is on MDL with clockwork mod while my Verizon variant that I got from a friend is on a bootloader that has patched the Loki exploit (sadly). Does this need to be flashed with ODIN or from my current custom recovery?

You should be able to use the Official TWRP Manager app to flash the downloaded img file.
1. Download Official TWRP Manager app
2. Run it (obviously)
3. Tap Backup existing recovery, choose a folder to back it up to, and tap Backup Recovery - not required, but seriously, backups are lifesavers when things go wonky.
4. Go back to the main screen and tap TWRP Flash
5. It should see your device as jflteatt, if not, tap Select Device, and find jflteatt in the list. It may prompt about downloading the latest twrp from them. safely ignore it.
6. Tap Select a File to Flash and navigate to, and choose the patched twrp img. Tap Select (1).
7. Tap Flash to Recovery.
That SHOULD work. I don't see why it wouldn't, since the recovery partition is the same partition, regardless of WHAT recovery resides on it. I'll make a flashable zip file up. It may be easier, and faster

I guess first thing first:
are you rooted?
are you on one of the aforementioned bootloaders (check the OP to see how to find out)?
which carrier variant S4 do you have (ATT, VZW, or other)?
Have you EVER taken an OTA from your carrier?
My bootloader is I337UCUFNB1. My phone's rooted . Can I still install this and flash optimised lineage 16.0?

Nope (to this recovery, at least). If you aren't on one of the bootloaders I mentioned in the OP, you're SafeStrapped and there are limitations to what you can flash.
Read HERE for info on SafeStrap, and what you'll be able to flash. I'm almost positive (iirc) safestrap means you can only flash stock-based ROMs.
I'll add the link to the OP. I figured someone on a different bootloader would ask eventually..
Hi, I have an S4 SGH-I337Z. I am rooted with skyfall OS and TWRP 2.8.4.0 and my boot loader is I337ZTUUBND3. I tried to install TWRP 3.2.3.0(via the ZIP method and the IMG method) so that I could install AOSP Extended Pie ROM but it put me into download mode. I, then, had to use ODIN to put the old TWRP 2.8.4.0 back in place so I could get back into TWRP recovery. Can someone please help me out and point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

You can't use the Pie ROMs. Unfortunately, you're on a safestrapped bootloader, so you're limited to touchwiz-based ROMs. Look at my post directly before yours so that you can get all the information you need.

Are you sure I'm on a safestrapped bootloader? The reason I ask is that I am on a Cricket device and not AT&T...Not sure if that makes any difference.

Yes.
The I337Z (AIO / CRICKET GALAXY S4 / jflteaio) is a variant of the I337. Cricket is owned by AT&T. The I337M (Canadian) doesn't have similar limitations from what I've seen over the last few years..
Have a look at this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2634367. I can't find any evidence to the contrary that you are safestrapped.
Okay here's an update on my progress. I finally found the TWRP 3.2.3-0 that works with the Cricket/AIO variant! To be clear and forewarned, I have only tested this process on the SGH-I337Z.
My bootloader version is I337ZTUUBND3.
Here are the steps:
1. First, go to the TWRP website and click on "Samsung Galaxy S4 (Qualcomm) (jflte)"
2. On that page, scroll down to "International, Americas & China:" and under that choose the "Primary (Americas)"
3. Download the .img file and then follow steps from the OP to properly update TWRP.
4. Done!
Note: I was able to flash a Pie ROM by installing this latest version of TWRP! Thanks to the OP and all the Devs here at XDA for all the hard work put into these custom ROMs and recoveries! :good:
Cheers!

You need to unlock the bootloader first. Go to Settings > About Phone. Somewhere in there will be software version. If you're on lollipop (5.x) you most likely are already limited to safestrap ROMs. There are steps in the OP to check your bootloader version..
Have you ever updated your s4 i337 via the OTA system updates pushed by ATT?
