[Q] Is this battery life normal? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone!
I've had my phone for about two weeks now and 5.1.1 installed a few days ago. Before the update and after the update my battery life has been around 10:30 hours or so as seen on the picture. I have my brightness at around 25% and as I don't have that many things running. I have a handful of apps and it the phone seems sluggish as well... It seems slower than my nexus 5 that died on me before I had this phone. Usually, by the end of the day, of around 11 hours when it is close to being dead I have around 3 hours of SOT. From what I've been reading this is lower than what others are experiencing.
I have the T-Mobile S6 Edge and to be honest I'm a bit disappointed for the price I paid.
Anyone have any suggestions? Is this battery life comparable to everyone else?
***** EDIT:
New picture I put up shows a drain of around 6% of the battery in 45 minutes. SOT was around 17 minutes.

Try turning off the Always Scanning for WiFi option. Also, change the Sync settings for apps you don't need to be synced at all times. And Location setting to Battery Saver.

When im at home i can pull close to 4hrs screen on . If im not on wifi the phone idle is terrible. I probably drain 6% or more per hr idling. Its hard coming from a note 4 , but i guess it is what it is.

Draining at 6% per hour is not good & unusual. But for Android 5.0.2, it seems about right, unfortunately. My N5 drained at that rate before the 5.1 update.
On my S4 with its 2-yr old battery, I drain at 3 to 3.5% per hour on idle with both WiFi & LTE turned off.
On my N5 with a new battery & 5.1, I idle drain at 0.7 to 1.5% per hour.
I'll add my battery drain rate once I get my S6E tomorrow.

This is mine on light usage. I noticed etter after a factory reset. Heavy usage is between 6 and 8 depending on wifi
I'm debating going to get one of these... My Note 2 keeps not charging and the stock battery died in 1:10 (from 50% to 1%) during a run yesterday. I was using spotify and mapmyrun.
Today is my first day after first full charge and my battery drains at ~3.5% hour, per GSAM.
I have screen brightness at little bit below the half-way mark with Auto Brightness checked.
I disconnected my phone at 6 AM and right now, it has been on 16 hrs 30 mins. I have gotten 2 hrs 30 mins SOT with 45% left.
Wifi active for 6 hrs, LTE for about 1 hr.
Screen has used 52% of my battery, Wifi 15% (5.0.2 shortcoming), Bluetooth (2%), Held Awake (0%), Phone (0%), Phone Radio (0%), App Usage (31%).
So far, the S6E is outperforming my Nexus 5 on 5.1 with a brand-new battery I swapped in on 4/1/2015.
Happy with the S6E's battery life, especially considering it's only 2600mah.
a little over 6hrs and it went from 100% to 14%. Granted 56%-23% were on a 1:43 run using Bluetooth headphones + spotify and mapmyrun mapping my way. Oddly, when I look at the battery usage, OneDrive is at 18%!
18 hrs & 37 mins off the charger with 4 hrs 8 mins of SOT. 17% battery left. I'm very happy with this. Update to 5.1 should improve it a lot more as it did on my Nexus 5.
Android System & Kernel battery usage is pretty decent. Those two on my N5 on 5.1 drains way more battery than it does on my S6 Edge.
When I'm not actively using my phone, the idle battery drain rate is pretty good - 1.9%/hour (similar to my N5, with the N5 being a bit better).
13 hrs & 9 mins off the charger with 2 hrs 20 mins SOT --> 52% battery left.
All this is without Root and my usual battery-saving Root programs.
Once 5.1 rolls out and if I decide to Root the phone and add battery-saving Root apps, I'm expecting to achieve 6-7 hrs SOT.

Ive noticed that turning off location and disabling google now has helped my battery life a lot.
I love this phone, but the battery life is the one terrible thing. 7-10 hours seems to be the max. I might have to return it and suffer the summer until the note 5.
i'm surprised to hear about all the negative battery life issues on this phone. on my GS3, i'd lose 3-4% battery just driving to work - now I get there and still have 100%. maybe i'm just not as heavy a user, but the other day my phone was off the charger for 16 hours and I still had 43% when I got home - and that included using Google Maps for 20 minutes, texting throughout the day, and using a bunch of apps. when idle, I generally only get 1% battery drain. my only complaint about the phone is some of the UI that I can't customize, but it's only a matter of time before custom ROMs are available...
I lose 10% or more battery on the phone regardless if I'm using it or it is sitting with the screen off. When I drive the 45 minutes to work, the battery is at 89%-93%.
A 1hr run with it on my arm playing spotify/mapmyrun seems to use about 26%.
Basically, I'm always worried now about the battery dying when I'm using it.
at the end of next month, I have a 14hr+ a day for 4 days music festival where I can only charge it at night. 7-10hr battery isn't going to work for me. It seems bizarre to me that they made the best phone ever, but skimped on the battery.
drive to work today with the phone just sitting beside me, 100% to 86%.

Is your location on? I had to disable google now. Turned off nfc, advanced wifi scanning.
my battery sucks too :/
i live by the charger even more
with all the same activities that got 7-10 hours on my Edge, the Note 4 is getting 14-24hrs.
Battery is beyond horrible!
Wifi is off
NFC is off
What else can I turn off? I can't even get half day out of this POS.

I think you actually want Wi-Fi to be on. I find that on any android device I burn more battery when using cellular networks.

Battery Thread

Please post your battery stats here, including Screen On Time.
Thanks.
5 hours SOT and Still at %30
Android System and OS together are eating nearly 50% of my battery.
Same here. System and OS eating my battery.
20 hours with 4 hours SOT. I'm not complaining. Much better than the s6!
First charge with massive wakelock issues...
Completely impressed with battery life. Pretty solid so far.
Not sure how everyone is getting all these legit battery stats. I'm only getting about 4-4.5 hours screen on time.
I'm at 15% with 3 hour 45 minutes screen on. No so impressive. I charged my phone before I went to bed and lost 16% with it just sitting, while I sleep. So much for doze.
Having the same issues. Trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong that everyone else is getting so much better results.
Anyone else care to comment? I'm getting pretty mediocre battery life. I expected ALOT BETTER. I'm averaging 4 hours screen on time. Android system is eating 37% right now.

I'm seeing similar results. I'm getting 3 hours and 45 minutes of screen on time with Android System eating up 30+%.

Same boat here, relatively poor battery life and close to 2%/hr drain when not in use. Slightly better than my S5 active, but not much.

Got the phone 2 days ago, it's a bit early but I'm not getting crazy battery life: I listen to music a lot (5-6h/a day - Deezer or Poweramp) and get 5-6%/hour drain, a bit less (maybe 2%) while idle. Coming from a Nexus 6P this isn't great...

Anyone else have heat issues, my phone got crazy hot and I was just using fliboard no gaming or video watching.
Give it a week or so before complaining
Mine took 5 days to settle
Afterwards a constant 6.5 hr sot sometimes 8
anybody having battery issues, cycle the battery completely and it should improve. when i got my S7 and My S6 also battery was garbage. I did 2 full cycles and man im getting crazy battery after..
anyone not knowing exactly what I mean by cycle heres what I did
use the phone til it dies completely DO NOT TURN BACK ON
plug and charge til its fully charged turn back on use it again til it dies
and AGAIN DO NOT TURN IT ON just plug and charge fully before turning back on.
that was 2 full cycles did wonders for me hope it does that same for ya'll having bad battery good luck:good:
I've done two cycles. I average about 23 to 24 hours between charges. With 3 and a half hours screen time.

After a week here's my new stats. Much much much better

G950 Battery Life/SOT discussion

Let's get this discussion rolling. Post your battery usage, SOT and device model (SD/EX, carrier/unlocked) here! Reviews have mostly said the S8 battery is about equal to the S7, maybe a bit better or worse depending on who you believe, so I'm eager to get a general idea of how endurance will be when my S8 arrives May 5th.
I'm impressed so far. Yesterday, charged to 95% and over 9 hours of mixed use, with about 2.5 hours of SOT, I was sitting at 48%. What is great is I had AOD on *and* the resolution at max with no power saving features. I wanted to see how it was going to perform at top performance and then work my way down. Right now, been off the charger for 75 minutes, 26 minutes of SOT and have 93%. That extrapolates to 6 hours SOT. It will be more like 5 used throughout the day obviously but this is pretty good.
Regular s8 full screen brightness, bluetooth and location on...took off charger at 6AM at 100%, 4.5 hours later it's at 76%. Connected to my car through bluetooth playing music through my hour long commute and using the internet. Not amazing but much, much better than my s6...for now. I plan on getting a battery case eventually when they're available which is partially why I opted for the regular s8 - those battery cases can be pretty big.
Early signs look promising, so far. Hope the thing Samsung said about these batteries aging much more gracefully is true, and that the S8s will maintain their battery over the course of their lifetime.
I'm at 6 hours 13 minutes of SOT mostly youtube and have 25% battery left. AOD, Bluetooth for watch, wifi, and phone at fhd+. 10 hours 53 mins on battery with 36% screen usage. I bet this phone can do 7+ hours of pure youtube, watch some youtube test showing around 17% usage per hour youtube.
Ugh. This bites

8.1 DP2 battery life

On the stable 8.0 November security release, my battery would hang at 100% for sometimes an hour or two with minimal use, then drops like normal.... Since downloading the 2nd beta a couple days ago, it drops to 99% in a couple minutes and just steady drops like normal.
Anyone else notice this? It does drastically affect how long my battery lasts in a day.
I have the same thing as you.
I just opt out of beta and downgrade to 8.0

I checked into the forums today searching for mention of this very thing. It's too early to tell whether battery life is taking a hit with DP 2.
I noticed the same battery level behavior with my Pixel 2 where it hangs at 100%, I never did believe that it was supposed to do that. It sounds to me like the new 8.1 DP2 may fix it rather than break it. We need to check the overall time from 100% to full discharge to know which is right.
I'm having same battery life with DP2.
Still 1 day and 6 hours SoT average.

Agreed (although I never got the very long 100% that some report). It does appear that DP2 is better calibrated rather than is draining faster.
Battery is more accurate here since DP2
Before DP2 was draining slower from 100 to 90 and faster from 70 to 0.
Now it's more constant from 100 to 0.
Overall battery life is the same.

I can't complain so far. I just got another Pixel 2 yesterday and loaded DP2 out of the box. I have 2.5 hours of screen time and I'm at 57% from 24 hours ago starting out at 100%. It hung at 100% for quite a while here too.
Use adb to disable wifi on during sleep which google now enforces.
Update:
Battery seems to be lasting just as long, if not longer than before. I assume they just have a different way of calculating battery percent. I'm getting around 6.5 hours of screen on time before getting down to below 20%.

P20 Sudden massive improvement in battery life

My wife has had the P20 from the week it was released in the UK. The battery life has been really poor, she is what I would consider a light user on a 4GB contract which she rarely troubles and with a tablet for use at home. She has taken to carrying a portable charger with her to make sure she got through the day. I had checked for any obvious drains, even turning off bluetooth, gps etc. But from a full charge in the morning, she would struggle to have any battery left by the evening, compared to me (a slightly heavier user) having about 40-50% left on my Samsung S9.
However at some point in the last week something has changed, she is suddenly going to bed with about 60-70% battery left.
Anyone else had similar? Has there been a significant update recently (to either the phone software or some other app)?
Craig
My mate 10 after a few updates, i actually use my phone to work, work 8 am to 6 pm get home and i forgot to charge the phone last night, woke up with 72% battery and was wondering if i should bother charging.
I think it has to do with the npu
I experienced the same after the last update. Before the update it would not last more than 4h sot with 1h voice calls. Now i can get 5h sot with 1.5h voice calls and still have like 30% remaining.
i have experienced increased temperature heat. dont know what is causing it.
Same here! But I just noticed it last night before going to bed (had it on full charge), woke up 8 hrs later and the battery only drained by 1% (only Wifi is on). Not even sure if the update was even downloaded without me knowing. But before this the battery for me was performing quite well, coming home in the evening with still 40-50% left.
