I'm getting an error trying to sync contacts on my Nexus 5; everything else syncs fine. This has been happening between ROMs, so full wipe and readding account has happened. I've tried deleting data/cache as well. I've been using Chroma ROM, and had flashed to stock ROM temporarily and I'm pretty sure same thing was happening on there as well. Contacts sync fine to my Gmail when I add or edit a contact. The only difference is the error message and the Google+ pictures not showing up in my contacts. I tried the "Contacts Fix App" as well, but it found no issues. Anything I could try?

Hello,
I flashed to Cognition 2.3b6 5 days ago, and the facebook sync contacts option has said "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." ever since I flashed. Twitter and Google contacts have synced and integrated to my contacts just fine. I think facebook contacts sync was working fine on Cognition 2.2b1 until I flashed. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Try to force a sync? I had the same issue, forced a sync, left the phone overnight and everything corrected itself. Weird...
I've tried to force sync multiple times with the same result.
I had the same type of problem today. For me the fix was as simple as deleting the account from sync rebooting and setting it back up.
^^
I've done that countless times as well
I had that issue once too, can't remember what Cog built I was on, but I'm running perception build 4 now and it's running great, with everything syncing properly. If you haven't tried perception yet, it's awesome!
I had to replace my Samsung Focus today, and after updating to the newest Mango Beta, I went to add all my emails etc. I have a Live, 2 Gmails, Twitter, and A Fbook. Everything synced perfectly except my first Gmail account which gives me the mentioned error code. I've reset and tried deleting the account, but nothing. It tries to sync and I'll get a few contacts from it but nothing else.
Edit: It seems to be a reason with contacts, when I unchecked them for syncing all my email synced up
Same problem here - does anyone know a solution? I can sync mails and calendar on my Mozart (mango), but if I try to sync the most important thing, my contacts, it stops after exatly syncing 1075 contacts with error 80070057. This sh*t is driving me crazy :/
Just happened to me.
Found this:

Pain in the *rse.
I just noticed today that gmail is no longer showing up as a choice within my contacts. When I open a contact I have choices for dialing, email, web, and messaging. I used to have a choice for gmail. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or knows how to maybe fix it? I tried clearing gmail data and re-sync, but that didn't work.
Here is a screenshot of what I mean...
Can't say that I have. My phone did something weird the other day though. Was using the same kernel too. Couldn't access the phone app. Kept crashing. I rebooted and it worked fine. Have you tried a reboot and clearing the contacts data and a resync at all?

Has anyone else had this issue? Factory reset, erased installed ROM, then with TWRP I install the above ROM, enable Exchange Account, sync contacts OK, once I start newest Facebook, and Sync contacts there I get the message in the thread, its kind of annoying, and I like to have the background sync enabled...
Even click on a contact in "People" will crash the "People" component... going back into facebook > settings > Sync Contacts > "Don't Sync" and I can now click on a contact, although the Facebook Picture or info won't be synced anymore...
I tried looking this up in google of course, but it always says to delete "contacts storage" it then proceeds to wipe all contacts from my phone, and didn't seem to want to resync from exchange...

Happens sometimes when ever a new ROM is flashed.
Solved! Wiped UrDroid, and installed ViperXL, NEVER going back! Maybe to CleanRom when he gets a good JB Rom out... but I am VERY happy with Viper XL
My brother got a Nexus 5 from T-mobile today. All his contacts on HTC Sensation are synced to Google appear so on both phone and through a web browser. I was helping him set it up this evening and everything seemed fine - had him sign into Google yada yada yada. When he went into his contacts it was empty, same with his Gmail emails. He has 200+ contacts an quite a few emails in his inbox so I thought this was strange.
I checked the Google account under settings and said everything had synced just fine with no errors. Found this to be odd so I wiped data and cache on both Gmail app and Google Contacts Sync app. Rebooted phone, nothing. Wiped dalvik cache, nothing. Removed and readded Gmail account, nothing. Factory reset, nothing.
Basically tried everything I know to no avail. It's odd that it is saying that it is synced when it indeed it is not - there isn't even an error message.
Anyone else having issues with this? Find this very very strange and there is hardly ever a phone issue that I can't solve and I'm stumped. Now I did manage to just export contacts to storage on Sensation and then copy the .vsf file to computer and then copied it to Nexus 5 and imported so he has his contacts but still no emails.
Considering just flashing CM11 onto it and seeing if that does it but don't want to go through all that if I don't have to - my brother is basic user anyway, he wouldn't even know what's going on if I were to flash CM11.
Just seeing if anyone else has issues like this. Ant suggestions would be great.

You say the contacts are visible through a pc, you mean via Gmail on the pc right? This could indicate he is signed into the incorrect account. I know I have more than one....
Sometimes the Android Gmail app needs a manual pull down refresh to show mail, and make sure the appropriate inboxes are syncing via the Gmail app settings. The manage labels option, I think.
And in the People app, press the overflow button and tap accounts. Check the check box and select the correct account.

No disrespect sir, but this is probably one of the first things I check. I used to work at an AT&T store for 4+ years and this always seemed to be the customer's issue with "not syncing." He has only one Gmail account and that is the one logged onto the phone. When I log into this SAME account on a web browser the contacts are there. Like I said the phone is telling me everything is synced, yada yada yada but still nothing. I appreciate you trying to help but that certainly is not the issue here. There is something deeper than that causing this issues and I cannot for the life of me figure it out. So frustrating.

I understand your frustration. I suppose you've already tried syncing his contacts to your phone? It wouldn't be the first time a Google account was boogered up.
If that works, make a new Google account and import the contacts to it, then attempt a sync. If that works, there is an issue on Google's end with that original account.

Oh shoot, forgot to mention that, this is even more odd. I added his Google account to my Nexus 7 and my GS5. On the Nexus 7 contacts or emails do not show up (even though they say they are synced). On the GS5 the contacts show up but still no emails. Now you can really start to understand my frustration as that is just down right goofy. Who knows, so annoying though.
