Why a Camera Launcher on the Lockscreen of the phone is always a good idea. - General Topics

Hello, everybody. I'd like to tell here, why i think, that a camera launcher or a physical camera button is very useful. Maybe your opinion is different. If you want to share your opinion, feel free posting in this thread.
I already posted a thread here, asking how to get a camera launcher on the Homescreen of the Note 3's Android 4.3.
So, the quality of Smartphone Cameras isn't bad, but far under a RX100 III (m3) or a Lumix FZ1000 or a Samsung NX500, but it's very mobile. It's portable. Most of the time, people always have their PDA's, wherever they go.
And sometimes, you've also got your PDA in your hands.
But what will you do, if your phone is on Stand-By, and you quickly have to capture a moment? If you haven't got a quick launcher in the standby menu, or if you can't use a quick-launcher, without typing in your lockscreen-code, password or pattern, if you have one, there's a danger of missing a valuable moment.
Three solutions (types of ‎Camera-Launchers) are:
1. A physical shutter button. Launching the Camera by holding the physical shutter button down for 0.3 Seconds. The camera application should also load in this 0,3 Seconds. Not after the 0,3 seconds, where you hold the button. It should also work from the lockscreen, without needing to unlock the screen. But it should also work, if the device is in standby mode. A good idea would be, if the device automaticly takes a photo, after the camera-application started by triggering the launcher, but before loading the preview (viewfinder).
Devices:
Samsung Omnia 2 GT-i8000
Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and K Zoom (S5 Zoom)
Sony Xperia Z1/higher - includes compact models
Planned for Note 5 (not confirmed yet)
Nokia Lumia 830,925,930,1020,1030,more
Nokia 808,6220c,6111
Advantages:
Real Camera Feeling
2-Level (Focus→Shoot)
Quick Launch - Quick Camera Shortcut from everywhere
No real disadvantages present. Accidental camera launching isn't so plausible.
2. Virtual Camera Launcher on Lockscreen

}
Advantages:
Much Faster than searching your apps to find the camera on the home screen or app drawer.
No additional disadvantages in comparrison, not to have such a launcher.
Disadvantages:
You can miss it, if you aren't careful
You first have to go to the lock screen. (No INSTANT Camera Launch)
Not physical
...but very useful. - Much better than searching thorugh the app drawer.
No additional disadvantages in comparrison, not to have such a launcher.
3. Galaxy S6 / LG G4: Quick Double-Press - Quickly launch the camera (G4: and instantly take a photo like the OneShot-Feature in CameraMX does) by double-pressing a specific button in row.
Advantage: Works instantly, even in standby mode
…and from everywhere.
Advantage: No need to unlock the screen
Advantage; It's physical
Theoretically possible on every phone with home key (physical is better for that.)
Advantage (G4) - instant photo shot.
Disadvantage: Does not replace the physical camera button, which gives you some camera feling.
Disadvantage (S6): Replaces S-Voice-Launcher, but Camera has a higher priority than S-Voice.
Disadvantage (G4: ) Unusual position
The mentioned launchers only work, if the device is switched on/in standby
Those launchers have very limited permissions, if your device is locked with a password, a code or whatever. Those conditions make sense
Permissions (Things, that should be possible through the camera launcher)
Modify camera settings
Use all camera features
Sony's Xperia Devices have the virtual lockscreen launcher and the physical camera shutter (button). But using them, without entering your code/pwd/etc. will restrict you to modify camera settings (e.g. resolution) or using other camera features (like Manual mode or 4K-Video Recording). If you try to use them, the device will ask you to enter your code.
Click to collapse
Restrictions (Things, that must not be possible through the camera launcher)
Can't view/delete/... photos/videos, which are already present on the device/SD-Card.
Bypassing the lockscreen, if locked with password
The physical shutter button is my favourite
But the other two types of camera launcher are also very good.

On the Note 3, quick launch is not possible, If the lockscreen has a Password lock.
I wish, Samsung had the quick launch idea (Double-Homebutton) earlier, or kept the physical shutter key.

I can't count the number of good moments I missed on my first phone because it took about 45 seconds just to get the camera open. Camera shortcuts ftw. Can't live without it now.
You know, worldstar and all that /s :highfive:

Is there a fix to make the Touch Pro camera flash less useless?

I'm sure all of you know that the Touch Pro camera flash turns brighter during the actual taking of a picture. The problem is that the camera doesn't adjust the brightness accordingly! The brightness is adjusted during the preview but thats with the camera flash at a lower luminence.
Here are two examples of the lack of adjustment, in comparison to my Sony Ericsson W810 with its flash as well.
Touch Pro: http://www.mylilsite.net/images/compare/sdtpw8v3/tppaperflash1.jpg
W810: http://www.mylilsite.net/images/compare/sdtpw8v3/w8paperflash1.jpg
Touch Pro: http://www.mylilsite.net/images/compare/sdtpw8v3/tpheatsinkflash1.jpg
W810: http://www.mylilsite.net/images/compare/sdtpw8v3/w8heatsinkflash1.jpg
As you can see, the W810 (which also makes the flash brighter during the actual taking of the picture) is properly programmed to compensate for the change in brightness while the Touch Pro doesn't do anything. Whats the point of having the flash if it just ruins the picture?
Is there anything I can install or modify to get the Touch Pro camera to be smarter like the W810??
Bump!
How about disabling the flash from getting brighter during the actual taking of the picture?
You could always:
1) turn off flash in the camera app
2) run nueLight3, htorch, or another flashlight app and enable the "bright" flash
3) run the camera app (which should compensate for the brighter flash), and take the photo.
Sorry to say, i dont think so - well i havent found anything atleast. Had the TP for a year (just upgraded to the Leo a few weeks ago) and never found anything to make the camera take a decent pic (flash or not) in all that time. Sorry!

Hey, thats a good idea!
Unfortunately...
What I did #1:
1) Ran the Camera app and left the light turned off
2) Pressed Home button
3) Ran nueLight3 and turned on "High Beam"
4) Triggered ArkSwitch and selected Camera
5) Took this screenshot with Shake And Save:

}
6) I couldn't find nueLight3 running in ArkSwitch or Task Manager and couldn't even run the app again. I was only able to turn off the light by resetting the phone. I guess the error experienced by Camera crashed nueLight3 as well.
What I did #2:
1) Ran nueLight3 and turned on "High Beam"
2) Ran the Camera app (triggered by holding PTT button)
3) Took this screenshot with Shake And Save:
4) nueLight3 was still running this time.
Has your idea worked for you?
@Beeble, yeah I agree the camera itself also sucks (my SE W810's is much better), but when outside or just needing a quick picture.. I'd go with my phone. However, it better be able to take pictures properly with its own included hardware and features . So I want this flash issue fixed.
Are there any other ideas?
I've taped a piece of paper to the inside of the backplate over the 'flash' LED. It manages to diffuse it slightly, but I still get a 'bleed' of light from the direction of the flash.
I think having the ability to adjust the behaviour of the flash LED would be great... If the timing of it could be changed so it goes brighter just before the photo was taken, then dims for the actual shot, it would work similar to red-eye reduction in regular cameras.
Any luck in finding an app to help with this since your last post?
hate to say it but, theres no absoluetly no way you can fix how the flash reacts when taking a picture, HTC is not good at specializing in cameras unlike Sony, but the suggestion the guy above was saying is something i would try out, if it doesnt work out for you, theres no other alternative at this moment
Man, really wish some solution was found, hopefully someone finds one. I just had a bad experience using the flash, it was great to have, but that totally bites how it doesn't compensate for the extra flash at the end. Defeats the purpose of the flash. I got the same error trying with htorch.

Looks very nice so far, everything seems to be working fine, will be be the ability to change which folder it stores the images/videos to or to choose from Internal or SD Card (External) in the future?
Thanks. :fingers-crossed:
just installed this and I must say I really like it. reminds me of how fast taking photos was on my 6 plus
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
Looks cool. I'd love to see an option to save photos to sd card tho
it'd be nice to have access to my full gallery when I tap on the bottom left after taking a photo...it only let's you look at the last one you took..

okay, fine~ we will consider your suggestion, dear.
We will update more functions in the second stage.
Welcome to give us feedback any time
Only getting 2.1mp images from my Nexus 5 running 5.1 and there's no option to change it to 8mp
Also the video is 720p only and video quality is very bad.
Ui is perfect, bet the viewfinder is rather slow, and focus as well.
Add some more options to the gallery, like showing all picture folders.
Improve these things and i have a new daily driver!
I love the design however it looks too identical to the one on iOS, try making the design your own? Something unique but good looking.
You should add exposure functions and other camera functions. If that happens I will definitely ditch Google Camera for this.
Looks good so far. Is there an option for HDR?
Need a panorama mode and a settings section otherwise great app
Getting "Fail to connect the camera. Please turn off the flash or reboot your phone and try again." Tried rebooting and it stay this way. Google camera works fine. I'm using Samsung Captivate i897 running OMNIrom 5.0.2 Lollipop
i tried it on my nexus 5 , the video quality is very low and there is no option for change it !!
thank you for this application
OK, I tried this out a bit earlier and I'm digging the filters.. My only question is whether or not a soft back button can be implemented? It would make switching from the camera to another app a lot easier, instead of having to click on the gallery/last picture I snapped to get that functionality..
Only black in preview screen.. but capture is ok..
NOTE 2 with Android 4.4.2 dr.Ketan Rom
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
Implement Camera2 into this and it will be fantastic.
powerful?
Picture size is 1280x720 normal
switched to square and it's 2322x2322
switched back to normal and it's 4128x2322
Video is 1280x720
The only available setting is Flash. And it doesn't work.
Is that really worth mentioning at http://www.xda-developers.com/new-app-spotlight-geak-camera/ ?
Galaxy S4 TW 5.0.1
this is great, i would like to see an ability of saving the image in the sd card instead of internal memory. Please add the features from AOSP camera. like manual exposure and changing the image size and others. thanks and keep the good work up
just add small setting menu
and hdr
and i will move to these app
oh, and i like your compass and calculator apps

Time to take picture (camera launch speed)

There! Something just happened! Did you take a picture of it? Rate this thread to express how fast the Huawei Nexus 6P can go from "zero to picture". A higher rating indicates that launching the camera app and taking a photo is extremely fast such that you never miss an important moment, like when your cat attacks the couch again.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Usually really good if you double tap the power button, but the camera app is actually a bit slow.
HDR could be a bit faster.
I've noticed sometimes I can double tap the power button and get the camera app up almost instantaneously, focus is instant and everything's great. Other times, it lags just a tad or messes up and shows the lock screen with (I presume the camera running in the background). But overall I'm very happy with it especially coming from the Nexus 5 where it took a good 15-30sec from launch to focus, shoot, and process.
It's a billion times faster to launch, focus, take HDR, and process photos than my Nexus6 was.
Normal mode is good. HDR mode is still slow. Iphone still wins in the speed category.
Picture quality is a toss up with the Nexus 6P having more color or pop to the picture, similar to Samsung. Iphone is more subdued colors and possibly more realistic.
6P pictures are so much better than previous Nexus phones. I would guess that some software updates will address the speed.
I vote it as Average. Way too often the camera takes a long time to open, and/or the shutter button to be active
It's pretty quick and about on par I'd say with my iphone 6plus of hitting the home button and swiping up on the little camera icon on the bottom corner of the screen like how android has. Seems like the actual photo taking procedure is about on par with my iphone as well.
The only thing I wish I could change (if anyone knows how) is to use a different camera app when I double tap power button or swipe up from the camera icon on the lock screen. I prefer the proshot app as it seems to just snap faster pics than the stock app and when you're dealing with things like dogs or kids that won't sit still, that's huge.

Oh, that's easy. Go into the details of the Google Camera app (you can get to it from App Info through Nova Launcher or go into Applications and tap on Camera. Then tap on Open by default, and then on Clear Defaults. Next time you double tap the power button, Android will ask you which Camera app you want to use to handle this action by default.

Unfortunately, it looks like ProShot is missing the proper definitions for Android to see it as a Camera App that can be launched. Time to send some feedback:
On par with others, but not any faster. The HTC One M8/M9 and Moto X Pure seemed slightly faster.
I agree the double tap power button is pretty great after you get used to it but the camera would delay a bit sometimes( like 1-2sec)
Since putting a custom rom and kernel I get absolutely no lag whatsoever. double click and by the time i have it up in picture taking stance its ready.

You mean when you take the photo the phone automatically flips it? If so, this is normal.
Camera very often takes upwards of 5 seconds to load.
Camera very cool for my
No doubt camera is really cool.
camera definitely better than my iPhone6s Plus but camera software slow especially camera launch speed.it would be if it was more quicker than now
The shutter speed is great. I've known cameras to be slow (Samsungs, I'm looking at you) but this camera opens really fast and I'm able to snap a picture in a matter of seconds. <3

MIUI 12 Camera App Updates

While MIUI 12 brings many new features to explore, one of the most important updates comes in the form of the new camera app. The features available will be dependant on the Xiamoi phone that you have. So if you don't see a feature that we listed below, it might just be that your particular phone doesn't support that function. I am running MIUI 12 on my Xiaomi Mi 9T and I'll be going over everything new that you can expect to find in the MIUI 12 camera app.
App info:
App name: Camera
Version: 4.0
APK name: com.android.camera
What's new?
Customizable interface
The new customizable interface gives you more control over the layout of your camera app. When you open the app, you'll find quick shortcuts running along the bottom of your screen. These will give you instant access to things like video, portrait mode, pro mode etc. When you scroll all the way to the right, you'll find the more option. This will bring you to a list of all of the features in your camera app.
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
With the next MIUI 12 update, you'll find an edit button in the more section. When you select this option, you'll be able to drag features around and place your favorite ones on the app start screen. This makes it much easier to have quick access to the most used features on your camera. The feature I use the most on my Xiaomi 9T is the 48MP shot. Now I can go grab that feature and put it as the first option in my camera app. This makes it much faster to select that option quickly.
Pro Mode Settings
Pro mode is done in a very interesting way that makes things a little easier in MIUI 12. On most phones, you'll find the full list of pro features right on the bottom of the viewfinder. In MIUI 12, only the essential and most commonly used settings will be shown on the bottom. Additional settings are in a menu in the top right. Once this menu is expanded, you'll have access to the full array of settings on one screen.
This new layout is very effective at making pro mode simpler to use. Previously, it could be difficult to navigate pro mode with so many different settings in one spot. I've found myself using pro mode much more often than I normally would, thanks to the new layout.
Magic Clone
Of course, there are some really fun new features as well. Magic clone is a very nifty mode that lets you clone yourself in a photo. This option can be found in the more section of the camera app. In this mode, you can duplicate yourself in a photo or video. This trick is actually pretty effective at what it does. While I doubt I'll ever actually find myself using this for anything, it's kind of fun to mess around with for a while.
Subtitles
A feature that I was not expecting to find, is the fantastic new subtitle system. While filming a video, you'll be able to put subtitles on that video in real-time. Your camera app will be able to transcribe your speech and create a complete subtitle track. This makes it very easy to quickly make a video that can be viewed with no volume. There are many times where a friend sends me a video, and my environment might be too noisy for me to hear it properly. This solves that issue in a very effective way.
It also comes into play for social media sites like Facebook, which automatically start playing a video with no audio. Now your video can start playing with subtitles, and the viewer doesn't need to turn on the sound if they're in a public spot. If you've ever spent time adding subtitles to a video, you know how much of a time-consuming process this can be. It's great to see this simple solution that can save so much time.
I would like to show you this feature in action, but it doesn't seem to be available on my Mi 9T yet. I will update this thread if I ever get that feature. If anyone else has this feature working, please leave a comment with some screenshots.
Shoot in Fullscreen Mode
Your new camera app will have a new update called fullscreen mode. This mode lets you extend your preview display to the corners of your screen. Normally, your preview window will be a smaller screen in the middle of your phone, leaving room for your controls and settings at the top and bottom. Now you can extend this window to the entire display of your phone. Settings will overlay the preview window and still function as normal.
This is a good way of enlarging your preview and making things a little easier to see.
Go read about the global rollout of MIUI 12 here.
I am wondering when Xiaomi will add the voice control to their Camera app.
