Can't unlock bootloader. - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know there are many guides for this but I've been trying for the past 2 hours but I'm unable to do it. I recently bought a OPO and installed adb/fastboot on my PC. Ifollowed the steps to unlock the bootloader and the phone was wiped clean but when I check the device info via fastboot it says tempered: true but unlocked: false and I'm unable to install recovery.
What am I doing wrong?

Did you uncheck "Update CM recovery" option from Developer Options under Settings?

After you type the command in terminal (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img), DON'T REBOOT your phone. Instead, POWER OFF your phone and then press and hold Vol down + power button to go into recovery and then flash superuser if you are gonna root. Thats it ! The next time you reboot into recovery you will find the recovery you installed.

Locked bootloader but with TWR and rooted.

Two days ago, I unlocked my bootloader and it wiped everything. After that, I installed TWR and rooted the device with a toolkit.
Now I don’t know what went wrong, but I would like to flash CWM recovery instead of TWR, but...
it’s now showing that my bootloader is LOCKED.
And I cannot unlock after I’ve tried using adb, cmd, or the toolkit.
I will hold Vol Up+power to enter fastboot and as soon as I hit “unlock bootloader” or enter “fastboot oem unlock” in command, the phone immediately starts into TWR.
Without an unlocked bootloader, I cannot flash anything via the bootloader.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
Turn the phone completely off. Hold volume up + power, plug the phone in via USB (ensure that you have the drivers installed for the phone)
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot reboot
then go back into volume up + power (fastboot mode)..... fastboot flash recovery <recovery-name>.img while the recovery file is in the fastboot.exe folder. then boot into recovery.

You see, I cannot even get to the part where I reboot the phone myself because the phone automically does it for me and jumps itself into TWR recovery and does not unlock the bootloader for me.
It takes less than a second from when i run the command "fastboot oem unlock" to when the phone reboots. Then it take about 15 seconds to get to the TWR recovery.
The only drivers I've installed on my Win8 (tried Win 7 as well) are these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
Any other drivers I'm missing? I do not want to do download the full SDK.

I actually had that happen to me too. When I typed fastboot oem unlock, my phone just instantly rebooted. But the bootloader was still unlocked. Use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632 and start from scratch. Use Universal Naked Drivers 0.73, they work amazing. I had these drivers installed before so I didn't even need to install drivers.

I tried your method but I keep restarting to the twrp recovery.
and specific thing that made the device unlock the bootloader. Fastboot OEM unlock just restarts my device
I have the correct drivers the win 7 pc does recognize the device in fastboot mode.
thank you

Silly to ask, but you unchecked the cm update in dev settings and enabled debugging?
Personally, my second lappy didn't even list the device in fastboot, but the commands still worked.
I would just boot into fastboot and run the all the commands in series.

I've already tried this on 3 different computers.
I don't see how having dev mode would affect bootloader if I never boot into the OS.
Someone had the same issue and had found a fix. I will give this tampering fix a try:

Hi lemonspeakers,
sadly I don't have a solution, but the same problem.
Current state:
Bootloader locked
TWRP installed
no root
Sending "fastboot oem unlock" causes reboot to recovery.
Besides that the phone is fully working. (My friends thing I'm crazy because I'm sad about a fully working, "normal" phone
I hope somebody have suggestions to fix the issue.
Update:
I've just seen the tamering fix thread and I'm going to try that, too,
Did it work for you?

Actually, I tried it and... It works!
I flashed the script, than used this guide (again):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632
Than it looked like the only improvement is, that the bootloader is now unlocked. Root didn't work.
I could fix that by going to Recovery, factory reset, reinstall SuperSU an reboot. My phone now is finally rooted.
I think the factory reset part is strange, but I'm so glad I now have a rooted OPO.
When you try it, please let me know if you also have to do a factory reset.

[Q] Cannot Root after XNPH30O

Hello guys, after a long time with the APPLE, i´ve changed to android.. mainly because of OPO. No regrets.
After a few seconds using it i´ve rooted it and was really happy...
But... after the OTA of the version XNPH30O of CyanogenMod i´m unable to root it again...
I can fastboot... but it stay at the fastboot logo...
Reading arond the interwebs, i´ve realized that it could be something related with the bootloader being locked.... so i´ve unlocked (i think) using the OPO toolkit.. I wiped it and still cannot bypass the fastboot screen..
Any sugestion or help would be awesome.
I´m running th OPO on CyaniogenMod XNPH30O, chinese model.
Thanks and cheers from Brazil.
Go into fastboot mode and issue this command:
Code:
fastboot oem device-info

To root you need to unlock the boot loader than you install a customer recovery. After you do this I recommend that you make a nandroid backup for when you want to go back to stock (a nandoid is an exact back up of you phone). Once you have unlocked the boot loader and installed a custom recovery made a backup you would put a flashable root zip on your SD and flash it in recovery. Most will recommend that you do not use a tool kit because it is doing the work for you and you don't really know/understand what is happening. I have not updated to XNPH30O but I'm sure its been rooted.
You need to have ADB and fastboot on your computer. << Google how to get this done.
Use this guide it will help do the following. >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632
1. Put phone in fastboot
2. run command "fastboot OEM unlock" < this is what unlocks the bootloader it wipes your phone.
3. You will need to install a customer recovery
4. Flash the flashable Super User.
Hope this helps.

I am not the original poster, but I seem to have the same problem—no root after flashing the SuperSU zip file. Here is the result of the above command:
Code:
...
(bootloader) Device tampered: true
(bootloader) Device unlocked: true
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: false
OKAY [ 0.000s]
finished. total time: 0.000s
Thanks everyone for the help...
i´ve been reading a lot since this post... and, still wraping my head in Android rooting.
But i managed to fix the problema... I needed to install the TWRP.
So... in this particular case after entering fastboot i´ve installed TWRP (with OPO toolkit in Boot a recovery>Boot!>TWRP) and proceeded to root after that.

So what exactly is your problem? Your bootloader is unlocked, so just flash TWRP and then flash SuperSU.

Had done that at least five times without success, but eventually, after finding a slightly newer version, it worked. Problem solved.
Simple process don't use toolkits
For any newbs reading this, your Oneplus is simple to unlock, add custom recovery and root. Please do not use tool kits follow the simple steps to do it manually. You will be better off in the long run.

What he said. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632 is a great guide to use. Very easy to follow and doesn't take long.

Can't boot into recovery. any idea if this can be fixed?

I tried to root my Opo, but it started to go wrong after i flashed it. It went to reboot into TWRP, but all that happened was it crashed. the 1+ logo comes on and then the screen goes blank. This Happens all the time when I try a "fastboot oem unlock", factory reset, or a boot recovery.. the fastboot does work, but the device is also locked and i can't do a recovery due to this. I tried to do the root tutorial on youtube by C4ETech.. help please!
@nickizm, when you boot to fastboot and enter the command "fastboot devices", can you see your device listed on the screen?
Thanks for the reply.. The fastboot work fines apart from when I try to unlock the devices and it reboots into recovery, it crashes and doesn't unlock.. the rest of the phone works fine apart from the recovery... my bootloader is also locked and I can't unlock it due to crashing
(bootloader) Device tampered: true
(bootloader) Device unlocked: false
(bootloader) Charger screem enabled: false
I can't be certain but I'm pretty sure I read a similar issue to this a few days ago that was caused by not having the latest fastboot software, the user resolved it by downloading the latest android sdk and trying again.
Worth a shot.
Hope it helps.

I've tried to install a recovery, but my device is locked. If i do a "fastboot oem unlock" is just crashes on me when it going into recovery. I also get the same crash when I do a factory data reset or if I reboot into recovery. I think it's definitely something to do with the recovery, but since my device is locked i'm not sure what to do?... cheers again

Have you tried using a toolkit to do the unlock for you? People usually advise against using toolkits to do it for you as it prevents you gaining the experience of doing it yourself, but since it's not working when doing it yourself I don't see any harm in trying a toolkit.
You can find several options at the bottom of @timmaaa's resources roll-up thread here

I think you might be out of luck, unless someone here more knowledgeable than I can help.
If you have a recovery image (not zip) you can try running the following command (make sure the img file is in the same directory as your adb/fastboot files and rename it "recovery");
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
What this allows you to do is boot into the TWRP recovery without having it installed on your phone, but I think I read somewhere that this command no longer works.
EDIT: If the above command will let you boot into TWRP, you'll want to read the guide here and flash the script.

can you give a little detail about
"device is also locked and i can't do a recovery due to this"
you did fastboot oem unlock. so saved data is wiped. but you should be able to boot into android system,
if so, enable "developer options" by clicking "settings" --> "about phone" --> "Build Number" click it 7 times,
then go into settings developer options and enable USB debugging.
then, use not fastboot, but adb to boot into recovery.

That doesn't work as my device crashes when it goes into recovery..
eg: "fastboot oem unlock", factory reset, or a boot recovery all crash as my recovery isn't working. When my device goes to reboot in recovery the 1+ logo comes up, fades out to like a blueish from the white 1+ logo and crashes.. so basically it's looked and I can't get into recovery.. thanks for trying

Use fastboot & ADB guide for beginners. Download all required files so your PC can Connect to OPO VIA USB from PC. What PC OS do u use? Windows or Linux. Watch how to unlock boot loader, root, & install recovery tool or Return to stock OnePlus one YouTube video. Easiest start. Your phone will be OK. U need to down load drivers so u can use your PC to talk to your phone - pass instruction & activate 1+1 options. You don't need a recovery to unlock the bootloader. Just boot it into fastboot mode, connect it to your Mac, and type 'fastboot oem-unlock' on the Terminal. Be careful, though, because you WILL lose ALL of your data!

Hmmm no recovery? When u hold down volume + power ?
Did u find the fastboot & adb tools for Mac?
What happens when u hold volume key up + power button at same time after turning device off?
What happens if u $fastboot devices -
Can u issue cmd "$fastboot oem unlock"
Know its frustrating but have to keep trying till u get in. Just have the rom files unzipped on your Mac ready to flash 1+1 when u get in. Its how I did it. When I wasn't able to but into recovery. Get on fastboot go thru OEM unlock, then flash 1+1. Follow the install script manually. Open script w plain text reader & just issue cmds following script. I don't trust scripts I + automation to get things unstuck.

Use Google, there are plenty of guides available online. Once you have fastboot working the best thing to do is to flash the stock images with fastboot. I have detailed instructions in section 8a of my guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2839471
Please note that fastboot commands are slightly different on a Mac but you'll see that when you view a guide on how to set it up and use it.

There's no point in duplicating my guide when all that's needed are a couple of extra characters prefixing each fastboot command.

Dude, in the time it's taken you to ask these questions here you could have already found the answers online and completed the task. I'm here to help people but I'm not about spoon feeding, it doesn't benefit you in any way.

Issue the Mac equivalent of this command:
Code:
fastboot oem device-info
What does it return?

Ok, try the unlock command again. What recovery did you previously have installed?

You definitely can't boot into recovery? Most times not being able to get into recovery it's a case of user error. Hold volume down, then hold power (so you're holding them together), when you see the OnePlus boot logo let go of power but keep holding volume down until you reach recovery.

Bootloader relocked, no recovery or OS. Cant unlock bootloader.

So, i got my hands on what i was told hard bricked device. i have no idea what has happened to the device before. first thing i got my hands on it and it did boot to OPO logo. so no hard brick. more like soft brick. tried go to recovery but i cant. it wont go how much i try. booting in to fastboot gives only black screen but my pc will see it (qualcomm hs 6008 etc) where i am able to use oneplus recovery tool and install stock cm11s firmware to it. it goes thru and gives green but device wont boot BUT now i can get to fastboot mode. now it says fastboot mode instead of black screen. running fastboot oem device-info gives this result:
"(bootloader) Device tampered: true
(bootloader) Device unlocked: false
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: false
This tells me its tampered but relocked. running fastboot oem unlock says OKAY but just reboots my phone (i thing it should go to recovery to unlock it but it does not) after rebooting i cannot get to fastboot mode anymore. just black screen again and i need to run recoverytool again and same results on device-info so it was not unlocked.
ill try to add as much info as i can:
because i cant even get to stock recovery i cant access adb.
Drivers are ok (win 10 test mode etc)
recovery tool does something but cant fix.
flashing anything via fastboot wont write because locked BL
tried toolkits but same errors as commands manually
tried many unbrick guides but no luck (CM or ColorOS)
took boot.img from cm someone suggested but because of that lock i cant flash or boot it at all.
hoping someone could help me. i see much topics about same problem but no solution anywhere...

Maybe this will help
Or after getting fastboot to work, format every partition and reflash COS.

actually tried that already but no luck. tried again now and no luck still. stuck on 1+ boot logo.
cant format partitions because its locked. (Device not unlocked cannot flash or erase)
restoring coloros or cm12 does not fix bootloop

After these steps can u enter recovery? Tried to factory reset via recovery?
