Screen Dead Space Mystery....... - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was running the Moonbreakers Provolution ROM with xposed installed and was using the "xstana" module to theme my navbar.
I also resized my navbar using the "serajr xperia" xposed module. My navbar then suddenly stopped working. No buttons (home, recent, back) would respond to touch.
Having thought i messed up the software, i formatted everything and went back to stock, even installing the various OTA's upgrading to Lollipop.
The Navbar is still unresponsive
My knowledge isn't exactly vast but even i know this is seriously messed up!
I should mention that Moonbreakers also had navbar theming baked in, so along with "xstana" , "serajr" and Moonbreakers all trying to modify the navbar something has seriously gone wrong...
Any ideas
EDIT: i done some research and some people suggested running a "paint" app and scribble which would determine if it was a particular part of the screen that was unresponsive or if it was the actual navbar. I did this and it is clear that the part of the screen where the navbar was is now "dead". (see screenshot)

Did you use flashtool to go to stock or recovery?
I would suggest flashtool and if it does not work after it could be hardware...relock bootloader and claim warranty...

Sorry for late reply I didn't know I had a response because you didn't quote me.
I used flashtool to flash a KK stock ROM and have installed Lollipop updates and also used the "repair" function in PC Companion. It must be a hardware issue. I did run the phone under the tap a few days ago, it must be water damage

[Q][Miro] Android is starting...

Hi guys, I have xperia Miro and I think when I changed SystemUI.apk with one like AOSP style with blue icons in status bar, and now when ever I turn off my phone it shows boot animation (actually pretty cool) and when I boot my phone after bootanimation it ALWAYS show text "Android is upgrading. Starting all apps." So how can I make that text dissapear? Maybe it was not systemui.all fault? I think that it may be even boot animation problem, its stock but I installed some in boot animation app (via gplay store) and when I tried to change bootanimation manually it doesn't change, so I had to change it back to stock via boot animation app.
Sent from my ST23i using xda app-developers app
I think that would be because the SystemUI is probably deodexed, and the rest of the ROM is odexed. So Android "optimizes" it every boot.

Ok, how can I "odex" it? I am a real noob in android, and now when I lock the screen the clock is gone in statusbar, also flashed fly-on mod (gotta say that my miro is running like a beast now) and when I go to recovery (cwm) and click on reboot it says rom may flash stock recovery this can not be undone and when i click anywhere no, yes or go back it just reboots.. I believe that i kinda f*cked up my phone so the best thing would be to flash stock rom on it, i cant find any tutorial for flashing the stock rom with flashtool, and i also need .ftf files...
Edit: found a thread about ftfs but cant find flashtool every page says not found
Edit 2: found the flashtool version 0.9.13.0 on depositfiles, returned stock systemui (for now) and the android is starting is gone but the cwm problem is still there, and the clock hide problem too (i think that the clock should show even in lockscreen)...

Sure, see this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1462648
Thanks But I solved it, original systemui already had its own .odex, I just moved it out of /system/app, but now the only thing left is the clock... Here's what I'm talking about:
As you can see I can't see the clock in top right in statusbar but on launcher I can... I think I somehow disabled it, but how? And I imported my custom boot animation (I have the same one on my tablet with bigger resolution) my frames end and then they go back, images are placed correctly... And I still have that cwm reboot bug...

Uhmmmm. Little question: why do you want thr clock in your statusbar when it's already on the lock screen? ^^. It's normal on android to hide the notification clock on the lockscreen.
Have a nice day!

Actually, this doesn't happen on stock. It does happen on CM/AOSP, however, so the mod might have disabled it.

[Q] Acer A700 system bar missing

I bought an Acer A700 tablet off ebay, was supposed to be new unused condition. Booted it up and it had no system bar at bottom of page. That means you can't get out of any app you have to reboot, useless. Thru reading on site and exploring this tab i found out it has super user installed on it and on bootup in the left hand corner it reads "boot loader ICS-MRI 7173de1 (unlock mode)" every thing on the tablet seems to work except no navigation bar, no circle in center, and no status info no bar at all full screen. I have played with this thing been on Acer chat and they say hard ware failure. That is before i new it was rooted, i guess that is the reason the update he wanted me to try did not work. I don't know if i try a new OS system if that will even work. I am 68 years old and this is my first android tablet, new ground for me. Most every thing i read is above my knowledge, would appreciate any advice i might just try it. thanks ahead of time

Ok, so whoever you bought it from, told you an outright lie. The bootloader is unlocked, and, it most likely has a custom OS installed on it. You can check this by going into "Settings" "About Tablet" and seeing what is installed on it.
Or,
The previous owner had root access (obviously) and went mucking around with the SystemUI.apk and goobered something up (most likely). In fact, I would guess he had CM installed and didn't like the way the nav icons were (in the center) and tried doing something about it by modifying files he had no idea of what to do.
The most simple fix, would just be to install a fresh version of either a custom ROM, or, revert it back to a stock factory ROM. Both of which are relatively easy to do.
MD
EDIT: Other things to look for now that I think about it. Check your applications and see if any of the following are installed.
Launcher (Nova, Go, etc) These sometimes have an option to disable the system bar (Nav Bar).
ExPosed Installer - This allows loading of custom exposed frameworks mods that several have the option to disable the System Bar (nav bar)
Any Nav Bar/System Bar "Hide" application. These at one time were useful to open more display real estate for games. (not many use them anymore)
Those applications you can safely uninstall through Settings/Applications, then reboot.
Other than that, I can't think of anything else. Will wait till you tell us which OS is installed (CM; Cyanogen Mod, PA; Paranoid Android, etc)
Oh, and one more thing. Stop talking to those folks on Acer Chat. This is a software issue, and not a Hardware issue. This I can promise.

"Demo" mode, is not a configurable option on most devices. In reality, it is a custom software from Acer that is installed for Store Display purposes. Several items have been left out of the build, specifically to prevent casual customers from mucking things up.
This is generally fixed by installing a full ROM.

You are correct, i will never talk to acer support again. I am getting ready to install a rom if i can figure out which one to start with. It has Adroid Veersion 4.0.4 Kernal version 2.6.39.4+ Boot loader ICS-MRI 7173de1 (unlock mode) It has superuser app installed, I did download an app which gave me a navigation bar that i am using till i can get a rom installed. My problem is that looks like i need to upgrade this 4.0.4 ICS before i can install the up to date roms is that correct. Thanks for helping be get this straight this is a lot for an old man to take in lol.

4.0.4 should be the original ICS ROM. If you get it installed, it should get you a locked bootloader, and hopefully offer the upgrade to JellyBean (4.1.x I believe)
Don't worry about age, I'm not far behind you
Have an issue, just PM me and I'll see if I can help.

Well, 4.0.4 ICS (ice cream sandwich) is the OS these tablets were shipped with. Then, it generally, after some days, would upgrade to 4.1x (jelly bean) Gotta love Google and the names.
Now, considering your tablet has SU (Superuser), and and unlocked bootloader, means somebody mucked with it, hence the missing NAV(Sys) bar. Dude undoubtedly mucked around with things.
As I stated before, this can happen due to several different reasons. How it got to that point, who knows.... In testing ROMs, Ive had this issue by installing a different SystemUI.apk that didn't match all the other files, Or, by "dirty" flashing a ROM without wiping /System partition.
Basically, to get it back to a completely stock A700, you will need to install a stock Factory A700 ROM. the 4.0.4 version. Should be able to find one quite easily, but if not, let me know and I'll help.
Basically, you rename that Stock ROM to "update.zip", copy it to ext SD, then boot the tablet holding "VOL+ then PWR and it "should see the zip and start to install it. "Should".
If not, then I can walk you through the steps to install a custom recovery, and we can do it that way. Acer, with JellyBean, actually has a somewhat recovery menu. Not sure if the 4.0.4 has it or not. Been too long. It may just look for "update.zip" and try and install it.
So will just have to see how it plays out.
For my own, I use "fastboot" so install image files to revert back, but that's just me. Also I have an A701, so it wouldn't do you much good
Same hardware so to speak, except for the 3g part and some different files.

Xposed has a couple of bad side effects at this point, so before doing anything you need to use Titanium or something similar to Freeze (this basically what the "helper" does):
LGSmartCover
Weather
Weather Theme
WeatherPlatform
Then you can install xposed as in the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811
However, there is still one more bug to keep in mind: Xposed will crash the Tethering and Networks menu. There is no fix for that yet, but as a workaround you can download some apps from the play store (like Mobile Network Settings), to shortcut around the menu that force closes.

Great, thanks! Shortly after posting this, I actually tracked down the zip from the standard LG G3 forum and flashed that, which seems (so far) to have worked.
Do you, or anybody for that matter, know by chance any confirmed working xposed modules that work on the stock rom? I tried a couple lollipop-approved modules and so far nothing has worked. It's been a while since I've used xposed, but back when I did I think I only installed gravitybox.
I attached the .zip in case anybody else needs it. Just flash that after flashing the xposed .zip and then install the xposed installer apk

So does this ROM do the "I'M FULLY CHARGED" battery notification thing?
Re: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-lg-g3/help/qa-d850-20f-stock-rom-debloated-t3069026/post60062058
So does this ROM do the "I'M FULLY CHARGED" battery notification thing? I switched to AOSP just to get away from that, but I prefer stock for the camera.
For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the original stock ROM turns on the screen and fires a notification when the battery is fully charged, so if you have your phone plugged in next to your bed, it'll turn on the screen and buzz every time it drops to 99% and then charges back to 100%, which means every couple minutes, all through the night. No notification setting fixes this, only putting the phone on silent works, and that solution doesn't work for me, nor do I want to mess around with Tasker. I also don't want to unplug my phone when it's charged and start the day with less than a full charge.
Thanks!
Just wanted to say thanks! I have been waiting for a cleaned version of stock Lollipop for the AT&T LG G3 for what feels like months now! I flashed this and the modem file after doing a backup and cleaning everything up first. So far it is working great!
Appreciate it!
So over night I have developed a problem, it's seemed to have added a +1 on front of my numbers, so I get texts from friends but when I reply it says invalid number, is there a setting for this?
Also can we use some super duper Kernels on this rom? Or because it's stock we can't change Kernel's?...

Unable to download any file
Hi,
I just bought this used LG G3 phone which has this image installed. It was an ATT phone but I am using it on T-mobile. Most of the things working except this one.
I am unable to download any file (pdf etc..) from any browser. Seems like download folder is locked somehow and I am unable to delete any files from there. I tried changing permission for download folder but that too failed. Screenshots are also not getting saved. Camera picture seems to be getting saved.
Please advice how to fix this issue.

Not sure but sounds like it may be an sdcard permissions issue. Take a look at the OP here and see if the fix suggested for sdcard permissions works.
Just to Clarify
I have the LG G3 D850 the ATT Model
So in order to install the new ROM:
1. I put the ROM.zip (1.1GB) and the Modem.zip on the SD Card
2. Also the Super SU on the SD Card
3. Boot the Phone on TWRP
4. Chosse install the three archives: ROM, Modem and SuperSU
5. After the reboot, clean the cache
Excuse me for ask, but I,m not a expertise in the matter.
Also I have more questions:
1. I already instal the lollipop from cyanogen but the phone doesnt work well. ¿There is a problem with that?
2. I must first back up the contacts, ¿Right?
3. I just need the 1.1GB ROM, ¿Right?
Thank you for response this questions.
Flashed all 3 files with a clean install. Only problem I've come across is my phone will no longer vibrate from a text or when I use my keyboard. AT&T LG G3 D850

How do I update a rooted phone from Lollipop to Marshmallow?

Hi. This is my first time owning an Android phone so please bear with me. Also, English isn't my first language.
I got this phone as a gift, an SM-G920F. And it already has SuperSU in it when I got it. Which means it's already rooted if I'm not mistaken. I'm liking the phone and hoping to know more about it.
Anyway I discovered that you can only change the media volume with the rockers when a video or music is playing. And it defaults to ringtone otherwise. Same thing happens when the media pauses in the middle of playback. But I never change my ringtone volume. It's either on, off, or vibrate.
So I browsed the web for fixes. And found this app called Rocker Locker. I tried it but it was a huge battery drain, so it wasn't a permanent fix. I also found out that this behavior was changed in Marshmallow. Having the rockers change media volume by default.
Tried to check for OTA updates. But it said something about phone being modified. Which was lucky, because I've also read not to take OTA updates while rooted.
Long story short. How do I update from Lollipop to Marshmallow in a rooted phone?
Thanks so much guys!

You can update it using Smart switch, even if your device is rooted smart switch helps you to upgrade the same, google it by typing Smart switch, you will get it and also note that if your device gets updated to Marshmallow, you will be unrooted.

Hey thanks! Will I encounter problems updating thru Smart Switch if the phone was modified with some kernel or a shoddy root?
And are there ways to root Marshmallow? I mean, I can see that there are posts about rooting Marshmallow but are these methods stable?

You are welcome mate, nope you will not encounter any issues if you update via Smart switch, if something goes wrong you can always download firmware from sammobile and can flash it using ODIN (simple), still many people are waiting for Marshmallow update so proper root method is not available I guess, what I can suggest you is wait for some more days let's see if some one comes up with Marshmallow root method

Problems with my Xiaomi Redmi 8A

Hello people of XDA Forum,
Since a couple of years I own a Xiaomi Redmi 8A, which I ordered brand new on AliExpress.
After a couple of failed attempts to install a Custom Rom on the device, I still have an unlocked bootloader
and a "offical" stock firmware on the smartphone installed. Sadly now occurs an other problem,
frequently the screen "freezes" when I want to use the touchscreen. Sometimes when I put the power-button
and pressing it another time the screen responsed to it. But not always, it's getting very frustating when
for example I play "Call of Duty Mobile". My question is that I want to know of the problem is software-
or hardware based? Hopefully you can help me out, thnx
Have you modified anything in your device recently? No? Then it's probably hardware issue.
Do you have any damage to your phone? Then it's even more likely to be hardware issue.

Thanks for the reply. Now I have this problem for a couple of weeks sadly... There is no visible damage on the
device, but I have dropped the smartphone a couple of times out my hand... So I have this problem and I thought

Thanks for the reply. Now I have this problem for a couple of weeks sadly... There is no visible damage on the
device, but I have dropped the smartphone a couple of times out my hand... So I have this problem and I thought
that a firmware upgrade might help me out, but the problem still remains.

If you think the damage to your phone is significant enough for it to affect your screen then maybe you should send it for a checkup.
Although you can try using different ROM to test if it works since it's probably much cheaper to do so than fixing the screen.
But don't flash an OTA update, flash latest stock ROM manually or flash a custom ROM. That way the settings are reset, you can backup your data with TWRP.

Allright, thank you very much for the suggestion. Finally I managed to flash an older Fastboot ROM through
the "MI Flash Tool", which solved my touchscreen problems.
