[Q] Heat problems fixed after 5.1.1 update? - LG G Flex 2

I really like the look of the G Flex 2 and want to get 1, but the things I read were mainly overheating and underperformance issues with the SD810 soc. So now I read some positive things after the 5.1.1 update, so my question is does the H955 version run cool and well after this update or is it the 810 afterall?

To be honest with 5.1.1 phone is a little bit cooler but throttling is not fixed.

Well my provider is having a discount which lasts another 2hours, so I guess ill go for the G4 instead after hearing this. I definitely do not want a phone that has hick-ups. Was hoping 5.1.1 fixed all

Well im not worried about software problems, more hardware like the SD810. Been running Cyanogenmod for years on my phones(Htc Sensation & Samsung Galaxy S4) which usually fixes all software problems and makes it run faster

If you buy the euro version of lg g4 you can also unlock your bootloader officially (but no warranty)
Lg will probably do the same with lg gflex 2 in the future

Well im from Holland so it will be a euro version, and 1 year ago orso lawyers had a case about rooted phones with no warrenty. They were succesfull and since then you keep your warranty unless you destroyed the phone due to that( think Samsung even repairs bricked phones for free but that aside). So every other thing falls under warranty here even if the manufacturer claims otherwise

Good News for the G Flex 2!

Just announced at CES 2015 that the G Flex 2 is confirmed to be getting Android 6.0 AKA Marshmallow! Here is a link:
http://www.slashgear.com/android-marshmallow-update-coming-to-lg-g4-g3-not-g2-27399720/
So the phone is definitely not dead, surprised that the G3 might not get the update, for those who was debating between these two phones.
Well, low popularity doesn't mean dead. It's barely half a year old anyway. Great news indeed though.

Well these are great news !
I just got the H959 TWN version. I think I love it more than my G4 H815 except the Camera.
Flex 2 is so much more snappier than G4 and surprising not as hot the G4. The Curve and the RED back cover is nice. I don't really miss the leather back. Now I have 2 devices to play with. Best of the Best LG .......Life's Good!
Ya, I made a post a few days ago about it getting gooey goodness. This phone is a beast. I love it.
Of course this phone is going to get it. It's still new and just came out this year if there was folks thinking the opposite then idk what to say. Now the big question is when do you think this device is planning on getting 6.0? That's the big question, so far I've been running Android M on my nexus 6 for some time and it is great very nice update and I'm guessing it will roll out and be official around October or somewhere around there so I'm curious to know how long from there will it take the flex 2bto get it.
Good news will be when I find this fcking phone on ebay <270$ :'(
Anyway its good, but lock bootloader deprives custom ROMs.
Indeed good news! Some of us that called the phone "dead " we meant the lack of custom roms and in general the lg,s decision of not unlocking bootloader.
Even with m it will be also dead from developers perspective.

Not feeling too comfortable and confident with the list. G flex? That never got Lollipop. And how easily it was forgotten, I wouldn't be surprised if G Flex 2 is also forgotten.
Kind if crazy how the list is so short. LG needs to unlock their bootloaders really. I don't see how it G4 flagship can keep the publics interest at all. Eeesh.

As I know on LG G4 international you can unlock bootloader, but not for the other versions.
So now I'm with G2 and it doesn't get android 6. I hope I will find G Flex 2 for the good price.

I can not get 6.0 if they will unlock bootloader in 5.1.1. There is lot of bad things on stock rom. Small difference between max and min display light, alarm volume and lot of more mistakes!
Hope this is true. Maybe by then we will have an unlocked bootloader figured out

The high minimum brightness is there for reason. Lower brightness = more grainy display.
I doubt LG will fix that in some update. You can use app called Darker - works great but picture gets more grainy..
Grainy display and no manual camera are my main issues with this phone.

The android 6.o is coming, will Flex2 have chance to update?

Hope our flex2 will get the updata~

Doubt it
Lg is unpredictable..... Lol
All i want is my unlocked blootloader, 6.0 will be cool, but all i can pray for is that Lg blesses us with a unlocked bootloader.
It's their fastest phone, but the chance of M is probably 20/80. Chance of an unlocked bootloader, 5/95. I'm curious about a stagefright 2.0 patch.

The article mentioned that the LG Flex may not get Marshmallow, the LG G Flex2 will get Marshmallow, no doubt about that.
And yes they hopefully fix the Stagefright 2.0 bugs too.

Do you have an LG source for your certainty that the Flex 2 will get M? LG has a pretty poor track record -- the first gen Flex never got Lollipop.

I hope you're wrong about 20/80 for Marshmallow. The phone is only ~6 months old and abandonment by LG would be a pretty miserable business decision. As far as unlocking bootloader, we'll more likely get that unofficially as a result of developer effort (highly unlikely without some LG tech leak) but overall the odds are probably even worse than 5%, especially for those of us with AT&T model.
If there will not be a 6.0 update for this device, i'm gonna buy a freaking iphone and never look back on android ... srsly, i'd be done with it and its fragmentation bs forever. Vendorlock me to apple crap.

Intuitively, logically, and reasonably we should expect Marshmallow and the rumors floating around on the android sites are a good sign, but personally I won't bank on it until LG puts out something official. The original Flex was release only 9 weeks earlier than the Flex 2 the prior year (Oct 27 2013 versus Jan 5 2015) and the first Flex never saw Lollipop.

The Flex and G2 had the same SoC, yet LG abandons it with no apology to users. I can't even find a reason for why they'd abandon a phone with those specs while it still had KitKat. Heck. I don't even understand why KitKat never came to the ATT LG Optimus G despite having the S4 Pro.

I see where you are coming from here, but I think that the flex 2 is much better and more popular than the original flex. I don't fully understand why the deep price cut, but it will dramatically increase sales no doubt.
Sidebar: Thanks again to help me confirm I had bad sensors. I sent the phone to LG for repair under warranty and they replaced the entire screen. When I got the phone back it was updated to 5.1.1, so now I don't have to worry about trying to coerce an OTA (sweet!). Battery life is stellar so far and no heat issues. Marshmallow would be a real treat (pun intended) on this phone, so I will stay hopeful that we'll get it (eventually)
Anyway if LG doesn't keep his word, I won't buy his device anymore
6.0
LG Flex 2 IS getting Marshmallow, U can bet your S'mores on it.

Guys. And gals? I am needing to snag an upgrade. I have note 4 ...The real reason is to get my bill down with the new pricing on easy pay. But on 16th they will go up 10 bucks. So ive been searching hard. 810 rumors are rampid. Id rather ask you users. Has the throttling stopped since the updates? Was this really the korean model? Or? How does the screen look compared to note 4? I ask because i love amoled. I also like the fact the flex is not seen much in the hand around my parts,of town. Lol. I see development is lacking. Guess no loki? Wonder why sprint would sell the flex 2 with locked bootloader? Oh well. 5.1.1 and up should fix all the lag. Please if you feel you might have some front facts on all this i hope u would give me all your opinions based on ownership. Thanks.

Because of his overheated reputation, the Flex 2, the first phone to have the SD810, sold quite poorly. In reality there was more phone in the past that overheated more than the Flex 2 but people stay away from a phone that seems to have a flaw.
That reputation forced LG to use a 6 core SoC in the LG G4 (that came after the LG G Flex 2 with 8 core).
If there is no dev for LG G Flex 2 is because there is few user. Even with a locked bootloader, if our phone was sold massively, someone would have found a way to unlock it as it already happened with so many phone with locked bootloader in the past.
1plus two have a reputation of overheating, Nexus 6P have a reputation of overheating.
In fact SD810 caused inderectly major profit loss for Qualcomm as it was not chosen for the alternate SoC for the Galaxy S6. Samsung sell so many phone that their own production of Exynos SoC is not enough and need another SoC to still produce their flagship. But with SD810 they lose Samsung which is a major client.

Nexus 6P and OP2 have SD810 but not the initial realese, have v.3.0 since i know and that version dont overheat...so, Qualcomm did a big mistake launch the SD810 too early...if they aprimorate more this SoC i am sure more phones will use it, unfortunnaly LG are the fist brand to use it so it's the first to suffer in market.
but now GF2 have a 80% price cut since theyr launch and i see a lot of people buy it, i dont know why LG dont unlock theyr bootloader now!
Oh yeah the so called hardware revision.
The Sony Xperia Z3+/Z4 (same model, different name) had the V2.1 (same as 1+two) and it was the worst of them all before being patched, the camera triggered an auto shutdown after few minutes. There is no V3.0
I bought the Flex 2 because of the price cut and I'm happy with that phone for the price I paid.
In fact in the end it's not really Qualcomm that is to blame but ARM as their big.LITTLE architecture is a failure. Qualcomm failed, Samsung almost failed but limited the heat with 14nm technology and other chinese branch chose 8 Cortex-A53 core (as opposed to the 4 A57 + 4 A53)
It don't change the fact that there is way less LG G Flex 2 than any LG G model.
The fact is that this phone rocks, no matter if the bootloaders are locked or unlocked. Anyone can check the benchmarks and see.
Also it sells a lot due to price cut.
Also there is no real overheating problem. Maybe because its plastic and not metal, i am not sure. Still, i cant say that i ve felt overheating nder any circumstance.
It s a shame the is no custom ROM.
This is amazing device except boring and heavy lg skin. This hardware need AOSP rom, just imagine how fluid and smooth that combo will work.
Shame on you LG, people with some cripled mediatek phones have custom roms and we are not able to flash anything.

Agree with you. I think the reason LG is acting so weird about not unlocking and going against independent development is because they want their phones to have tight security. They don't want everyone playing around with their bootloaders and Xposed etc. The reason for my belief is because last month I incidentally faced FRP lockdown. And spent a month looking for a method to unlock it but ONLY one software worked. I bought the phone in December and LG had plugged all the possible methods available even that were discovered in Jan on Samsung phones and even that loophole will be fixed as soon as they find it. Even Samsung is tightening the noose on security because they are facing harder competition when Blackberry decided to switch to android too with fort knox security. No one wants losing business. Google was already facing major embarrassment on security front and people switching to Apple. Just see how fast they are acting on plugging security holes each month with their patches. So I don't think we would see any development on LG phones atleast and even less in future.
@ op
No there is no unlocked bootloader yet... we have prepared a bounty for whoever does.

LG is a piece of garbage when it comes to updates. Worse than this, they don't even allow us to unlock bootloader to do this for ourself.
Unlikely.
Most variants (H950, LS996, US995) did not even get 6.0.

yeah, "got" MM. Just a fraction of devices got the update while majority is still officially on 5.1.1.
At least getting 7.0 on a snapdragon 810 is remotely possible... maybe LG decided to skip MM and go directly for nougat. But then again, why would they. They've probably already fired the last engineers involved in the development and nobody remembers last years flagship phone, even though there are DOZENS of users like us waiting desperately for a newer firmware
There will never be 7.0 for Flex 2 . Please guys, just be real..

Any form of reply will be appreciated. Thanks

I used one year LG G3 with Marshmallow, very good phone but I always liked the amoled screen so right now I use an LG G Flex 2 and very satisfied.

5.1.1 is available for the variant he's getting, the H950. Depending what version your phone ships with, if you get it with 5.0.1 you upgrade to the 5.1.1PR KDZ, and if you get it with 5.1.1 already you just flash a rooted system.img and use it like that. Sadly 6.0 isn't available for us even though they're already on 7.1 but I've had no problems with it yet. Great phone, good battery, faster than the G3, 1080p screen, good camera. Everything you could want.

Exactly, and I meant that he may not get 5.1.1 if he's using the phone outside the US, however I hope he does at least receive that.
Honestly, I feel so bad to see such beautiful hardware being disadvantaged by these software issues, both the specs as well as the design are all so great...
