After a swipe on the Homescreen, where i probably, accidently, caught the widget, first one widget disappeared and later all widgets were gone. I'm (were!) using TrebuchetBackup and thought "No worries, I'll just restore the backup"! Then the troubles started for real! Now Launcher3 crashes constantly. After many clicks on the OK-button to clear the crash-notification i can succeed in force-stopping the Launcher, but after a reboot the troubles starts all over.
I've tried clearing data and cache in the app, cleaning the caches, including Dalvik, on the phone, but no success. I've even reinstalled the ROM (YNG1TAS213/without wiping).
If I choose to send a report, I get the following title:
[CRASH] com.cyanogenmod.trebuchet threw android.database.sqlite.SQLiteCantOpenDatabaseExeption.
It's not the whole crash-report mind you, as I can't find the report anywhere on the phone.
Does anybody know where I can find the crash-report?
Does anybody have any idea, what causes the crashes?

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this. I've been checking the forums off and on for a couple of weeks and have yet to see the issue brought up.
The title says it all. Ever since I first got my EVO I've been changing the icons within the apk files for all my apps; both system and data apps. And, I never had an issue... Until just recently.
Changing the icons as I do necessitates changing them every time there is an update to an app. However, within the past couple of weeks a few updated apps are Force Closing after I change the icon. I've tried clearing the data and cache for that app as well as clearing the cache for the phone but to no avail. If I redownload the app from the Market all is well again but as soon as I change the icon it Force Closes when I try to launch it. It is only on a couple of apps but is driving me crazy and seems to be increasing. So far I have had it happen with Voicesearch, Root Explorer, and Barcode Scanner. Does anyone have any ideas on the cause and more importantly a fix or workaround?
Thx

Not sure if this is your problem but i had that happen once. It was because the app had switched from a "rgb" png to a indexed icon. I had to mod the icon I was dropping in to make it match. Like I said not sure how or why this worked but worked for me.
Interesting. I've got to admit I am unfamiliar with "indexed icons." How do you determine whether it is an rgb png or an indexed icon and assuming it is an index icon how do you convert a png to one?
*** I have spent an hour searching through posts looking for this issue. Unless my search-fu is way off today, I can not find this issue.
Problem Cause
Improper shutdown
Was in a game of Battleheart, battery was dying, I plugged it in;not realizing that the power bar I plugged into was not on, tablet power off mid play a few moments later.
So I plug it in for a few mins, then turn it back on to nothing but a bunch of force closes rendering the tablet nearly inoperable.
Problem:
Constant force closes.
-com.google.process.gapps
-com.google.android.patrsnership
-com.google.android.gm
-com.google.android.vending
-com.google.android.calander
com.google.android.gmail
-com.google.providers.calander
etc
Force close Issues
-No Wifi,
-Cannot modify home screens in any way. If I try to remove a widget, the launcher goes into a constant force close loop com.android.launcher, effectivly disabling the tablet.
-Settings will not "take" I have read that solving the typical force closes that I am seeing is disableing the syncing via google and also clearing data/cache from gmaps, calander, bookmarks etc. However, while I can access settings and choose the options to remove this data, nothing actually happens. I deselect the sycing options under settings, but after reboot they are re selected.
-Cannot install any applications. Another solution mentioned was to install a new launcher, like ADW, or LP. Trying to install an apk immediately sends the device to the ausus boot logo and it will boot loop 5 times (loading circle dots rotate, then disappear while still at the asus logo) before finally loading to the home screen and its many force closes.
Solution?
I have not found one yet that is satisfactory. I was hoping toi pick the brains among some of you here, who may have more knowledge insight in solving this issue,
-Factory Reset? While this is always an option, it stinks. Like really. I'm about 15/16gb used on my internal mem. I have tons of apps, music, books, pics, progress in games etc that really sucks to lose.
-Hard Reset? See above
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear em! Thanks!
have you tried a cold linux boot? hold the power and volume down for 10 seconds. You will then have the option to wipe the tablet. wait a few seconds, and another option becomes available(a not wipe symbol). This cold boots the os
Try clearing your dalvik cache.
+1 on wipe caches
had this problem, just wiped 'em and tada

Thanks for the quick replies.
Sorry I should have mentioned, I am running stock. No root, no custom recovery.
Is wiping the dalvik cache still an option?
aaaand people ask why we use CWM. This is why.
idk unless nvflash can fix it you have to lose all your crap in a factory reset.
I have Galaxy S with Android 2.3.4 JVR and it works like a charm - with this one exception: sometimes (too often) phone, contacts and messages (sms) keep closing. This happens usually within a second or two after opening up them. There's no force close message, it just returns to the home screen without any warning. If I reopen it, it usually does the same a couple of times, but eventually I get it to open.
At first I thought this must be a memory issue. However, I have Autokiller installed (my phone is rooted) and I have usually >100M free memory. Then I thought it must be Autokiller killing the dialer, contacts or messages apps. BUT: this happened also before I had Autokiller installed, so it can't be that either. The strangest thing is that I tried installing GO SMS Pro and GO Contacts + Dialer, and even they do the same thing occasionally (close immediately after I open them), so it isn't a problem with apps either.
I am bedazzled here, could somebody please help me? This starts to get really annoying, since the dialer, contacts and messages are the feature you normally use most in your phone!
I have the exact same problem! Somebody, please help
the phone app and etc. seem to be corrupt or something
try reflashing. If you keep getting the problem then revert back to your previous rom =/
Is there any way to try to replace only the phone etc. apps without flashing the whole rom?
from my experience no but you can try replacing phone.apk sms.apk etc with the previous rom's apps
The funny thing is that I have a stock 2.3.4 JVR, so it should be stable.
Plus, did I mention that this happens only sometimes? Sometimes they work ok. But this happens often enough to be annoying. You know, when you would have to make a quick phone call you have to open the phone app like 3-4 times, only then you're able to make it. I wondered if the the problem could still be in the dialer, contacts and messaging apps even if the problem occurred only sometimes?
In addition, the calendar app has done this a couple of times. Could it be that there's a conflicting app that's causing this? If so, do you have any suggestion what it would be?
Autokiller made my phone do some really funny stuff. After installing it i was having random reboots and apps crashing so i uninstalled and problem solved. You said it was happening before you installed it though so im just guessing that you need to either wipe cache and dalvik then reboot or do a full wipe and reinstall of your rom. When you do the full wipe go into mounts and storage and wipe system too
Hi and thanks for your comment. What are the effects of wiping the cache and the dalvik cache? Do I lose important data? Or can I do it safely? Sorry, I'm a bit of a n00b with android. I suppose you wipe the cache in download mode, right?
I experience exactly the same issue as you-though I am on stock jvu.I come from 2.3.3, stock as well, using chainfire root both times.
Sometimes phone contacts and message s close immediately after opening them, often several times. and sometimes everythings fine
here you can find some information about dalvik and normal cache wipe..your data will be safe-only first boot will take longer.I will try wiping now, too-reporting back then.
Edit:
For now wiping seems to have worked well and fixed the problem here..I need some more testing though-will keep you up to date here
edit 2: damn! The issue's still there.anyone got more ideas?
G'day!
I have the exact same problem with JVU and I had this problem with 2.3.3 but less frequent. I have no choice but to reboot the phone when it happen. I suspect it's caused by one of the widget (email and Go weather) that I put on the desktop. Going to remove the two widgets from desktop and see if it's help.

Okay, that sounds interesting - though I am not sure wheter a widget could cause this...
I am still running JVU but now with Galaxian Kernel instead of Chainfires root Kernel - flashed with SGS Kernel Flasher and still got root - and it runs very stable and fast 'till now. No more closing of phone, contacts and messages so far -.- since 2 days.
I'll tell you when it happens again, but so far it seemed to be a kernel issue for me...
I've been having the same issues with my Samsung SideKick 4G. messages would keep closing as I was typing them, I would lag and the key I pressed would "press again" like 15 more times, sometimes I just couldn't open a conversation, other times I couldnt answer phone calls cause the UI lagged.
That was all on stock firmware, and I got fed up with it so I tried to flash a custom ROM on it, and before I did that I had it OC'd to 1.2GHz which was actually pretty great. Needless to say, I screwed up on flashing the ROM and now I'm looking for firmware to odin back to stock. =\
Anyone else had this?
Today I removed my calendar widget because it seemed to be syncing improperly, and long pressed the screen to re add it. I tapped widgets, then when I tried to scroll to the next page of widgets, Google Search force closed and kicked me back to the home screen. Repeated three times, same result. Uninstalled updates to Google Search, and the problem stopped but also the home screen went back to the default startup arrangement.

Same issue here. I have even just reflashed a stock factory image and it still happens, must be a recent Google Search (launcher) update that is breaking things. Don't seem to be many people reporting this issue though...

Found another post that cured this problem.
Clear Cached data in Settings/Storage/Cached Data
Worked for me!

Same problem here. But I don't think it was because of adding widget.
I did nothing and it just happened. Both text search and voice search stopped responding.
After rebooting, it worked for a while then it crashed again.
FYI, my problem happened before there's an update yesterday. After updating new version, the problem is still there.
I own both Nexus 4 and 5. The symptom only appeared on Nexus 5.
Okay I'll try upgrading again to see if it still crashes. I have a Titanium Backup of the current setup.
Alright, tried that. Immediately after the upgrade, it once again crashes when I open the widgets menu. However, clearing the cache does indeed fix it. Thank you!
I'm slowly leaning back towards just ditching this to return to Nova Launcher though. The new features I use so rarely anyway.

bad widget, bad!
Encountering this same issue for the last 2 days, although I haven't tried to add a new widget in over a week. Attempted clearning cache, and uninstalling any recent apps - no fix. Multiple restarts - issue persists.
I'm running ART... can anyone else verify that they get this issue whether or not they've changed their runtime?
cheers
Art seems to be the cause here, well definitely was for me.
solution
Simple, but effective.
I continued to have this problem until I turned OFF Google Now, then turned it back ON. From that point on I have had no problems adding widgets or changing wallpaper using either runtime.

This worked perfectly for me; tried clearing apps cache through system settings, didn't work. Went into recovery, cleared cache, solved it. Thanks!
Sorry to bump an old post but I'm having this problem (not running ART), and clearing dalvik + cache didn't fix it for me. Any other things I can do to fix this?
I'm not sure how to describe this, and I looked through the threads some, but it didn't seem to match any of others' problems exactly. I'm running MOAR v6.2 Oa6, and every few minutes things seem to "refresh." Anything hanging out in the notification bar reappears, Lux quits then readjusts the screen, any music stops and goes away, Link Bubble disappears. If I'm using other apps, like Facebook, it goes unaffected, but if I have Pandora on-screen, it stops. If I am actively looking at Link Bubble it will stay, but the bubble goes away if it's just sitting there and this happens. It seems to be just a few apps that use a persistent notification that are affected.
I've tried disabling Greenify to see if that was the culprit, I've tried doing a factory reset, I've even tried reflashing MOAR, thinking it was a snafu the first flash. Still does it.
Thanks for your help!
Just one more detail that might be related, the Play Store seems to keep quitting while downloading apps, especially if downloading multiple apps at once. My guess is that it stems from the same cause.
Just thought I'd post an update as I think I found the solution. As my apps were seeming to restart and crash constantly, I ended up flashing stock (there was an update anyway) and reinstalling MOAR. But what I think did it, since I experienced the same problem after all that anyway, was doing a more thorough wipe. Instead of just a regular factory reset or just cleaning out the cache and dalvic, I wiped the cache, dalvic, data, and internal data, and that seemed to do the trick.
