Im having a small problem while using google maps the arrow that shows my location points in a wrong direction, about 90 degrees to the right of where i actually am headed. How to solve this problem as it is annoying and confusing when navigating.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how to calibrate the compass on this thing? I have tried the figure 8, and also going to setting>display>E-Compass calibration it just keeps saying:
Please rotate DUT according X, Y and Z-axis respectively! until accuracy equal 3.
Then says Calibration Finish, and a little video, but nothing ever changes, and there is nothing to press to calibrate it.
I'm a little curious on the compass calibration too. The compass is jittery, it's like voltage fluctuations or something. I'm wondering if it's a actual hardware problem or its it's a software problem. ... .. still not too sure about this phone I got about 15 days left to return it.
Sent from my jittery ass compass MOTWX435KT using Tapatalk...lol
I'm having the same problem with the compass. I did the initial calibration but even now it's almost always +/-30 degrees off on way or the other.
I do see a little improvement if I do the figure 8 or rotate it around all three axis whenever I want to use it.
I also hope it's just software and there's a fix for it. So far I haven't had any luck downloading other compasses and re-calibrating it through them.
I haven't had any issues, but the app "GPS Status" has an option to calibrate the compass. Might be worth a shot.
anyone else experiencing slow tracking and movment when using google maps or latitude?
my GF's Wildfire S is perfect while my Galaxy S plus is slow to get GPS if it gets it at all and incredibly slow while using maps or latitude, its like when you used to play a game on a pc and the HDD would start thrashing lagging your game like crazy.
its as if something is trying to access cpu in the background, im getting sick of this phone it was supposed to be a bit of an upgrade to my Wildfire S but all i see is the Wildfire S kick its arse even with that 600Mhz cpu compared to my 1.4Ghz cpu.
can you check please how it runs by clicking the compass icon top right while looking at the map and setting it to follow you so the map moves around you when you turn.
Thanks
Hi BackDaws,
This is a common problem it seems across the SGS+ phones as I have also been facing the same problem. This is what I have found and you may check it at your end aswell.
1. Enter the start and the end direction and the route comes up.
2. Now tap the Blue icon which states your current position and it will now come to the centre of your screen.
3. Then press the cmpass icon on the top right. Now your screen will refresh as you move but now the problem that you will face is that the whole route has been compressed in one screen and you will not be able to make out if there are frequent turn in your rout.
4. Now go the Zoom out tab that is there at the right bottom corner and Zoom it to a level where you can see the route clearly with the turns.
See if this helps... It has helped me but there are times when the refresh rate is slow because of the data transfer rate.
Also do let me know if you find any other way out
Thanks
Sunil
I've been having trouble with Google Maps recently. GPS pinpoints my location accurately, but the directional/heading stability is horrible. Consequently, when in Navigation mode, the map is displayed properly for a second or two, but then it rotates wildly before settling again on the correct direction. It holds this for a second or two, then rotates wildly again. This is quite annoying, and makes Navigation unusable. When not in Navigation mode, the direction indicator can be seen rotating wildly, though the map itself doesn't rotate as it's not following me. The issue is also present in Google Sky Maps, with the map randomly rotating, though I'm holding the phone still.
I'm guessing the issue is with the phone's accelerometer and/or gyroscope, but I cannot determine if it's a hardware or software issue. It doesn't seem related to a specific ROM or version of Jellybean, though I've only been using TW based ROMs. I'm currently running the TW 4.3 based Alliance 22 ROM.
Has anyone see this issue before? Any ideas on resolving it?
Is there a way to calibrate the compass in the HTC One M8? I find that the arrow on Google Maps doesn't point (geographically) in the direction that the phone is pointed. It seems to be generally off by ~60 degrees (until I start moving then I assume the direction relies on the GPS motion rather than the internal magnetic sensor).

I do what the iPhone 3G used to have as instructions for calibrating the compass and that is to move the phone in a figure-8 pattern a few times... It seems to work.

Hello all.
first of all I would like to make sure is this problem is only on my device. What kind of problem? My character is not accurately following my movements. When I walk slowly it is almost ok but sometimes it is auto rotating in wrong direction as I was walking from side point of view. When I am in the buss it is going totally crazy. When bus speeds up screen stops moving as I was standing and sometimes refreshes in different place than I am at the moment. GPS status app shows no problem with connection to satellites and car navigation on google maps works very well. One thing that I have noticed is that when I left the bus and started Google Maps it pointed bad my localisation(200 - 300 meters away from my real position)
I have turned on localisation and all rights are given to both Harry an GMaps. Wifi scanning in localisation menu is also turned on.
Any ideas?
It seemed to be tracking me okay, but when I get to the point where it uses the camera it crashes.
Are you on the 9.5.8 update? I don't play that game, but have been seeing some odd GPS activity in Strava and Google Maps since I took the last update.
I have the same problem with Harry Potter but it seems to work well with Pokémon. Maybe the problem is from the game ?
