No Download Mode... only Factory Mode - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Galaxy S6 that I purchased off Ebay and on the back of the phone, the model is SM-G920i but in the settings of the phone, the model number is SM-G920F. I want to get this back to original stock firmware based on the G920i. The only problem is that I cannot get into Download Mode to be able to use Odin. I have tried all of the hardware combinations and the only thing is does is take me to a Factory Mode, where the options are Auto Test, Manual Test, Item Test, Test Report, Debug Test, Clear eMMC, Version, and Reboot. Even when booted i use Adb reboot download and all the phone does is reboot. Any help here? I am not sure what type of work has been done to this phone prior to me buying.

Maybe it is fake ... send it back and ask for your money ... and afterwards buy a phone that you can see and touch before buying ...
Ok, lest not jump to conclusions ...it maybe is not fake as I did not seen the device ... but something is wrong ... if you have original recept and warranty take it to service ...
Sent from my SM-G920F using XDA Free mobile app

Did you ever find a solution. I am having a similar issue. I may have been tricked but this phone has none of the other signs that it's a fake.

Turn off your S6. Press and hold Volume Down + Home button + Power button to get to download mode. Run Odin and flash G920i ROM from choices below.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G920I/

If there is no download mode then you have bought a fake device, sorry.
Factory mode is on the clone galaxy devices.
Ask for your money ASAP!!

...maybe its a fake S6 you have there...

Problems rooting Samsung Galaxy GT-B5510

Hi guys,
I ask for your help after having tried everything was in my possibilities.
I recently bought a Galaxy GT-B1150 and I wanted to root it. I tried everything :
1. Superoneclick
2.Z4root
3.Unlock Root
4.Sgtool
5.to put a .zip folder in the SD and to enter in recovery
It was useless. I have all the possible drivers on my windows 7, although 1,2,3 and 4 didn't work.
1 freezes at #7;
2 just doesn't do anything
4 "smart card error 0x89"
5 I feel idiot, but I seriously can't do the recovery mode. I push power+home+volume up but the best result I achieve is a reboot.
It's been 3 days since I started trying, now I just don't know hat to do.
Thanks for any help!
U've written the model no. incorrectly..got me confused.
Anyway i'll see what i can find.
It's seems like the usual update.zip rooting works. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431696
U should be able to boot into recovery.
The model is GT-B5510, sorry.
I swear I tried thousands times to boot into recovery, I just can't!
I even watched a video and a picture of the procedure, but it doesn't work. It's so simple that it seems impossible to me to be so dumb. It's three keys pressed simultaneously: that's what I do. I don't really know what to think.
Tell me what exactly happens when u try to enter recovery mode.
What do u see on the screen?
When the phone is off and I press the 3 keys, the phone turns on and the screen view with "samsung galaxy GT-B5510" written on, appears. If I hold them, after few seconds, the "galaxy GT..." text disappear and the phone just reboots. If I release them, the phone starts normally.
Weird.
Try various other key combination if ur bored, there should be one for download mode but it's not useful in this scenario.
I came across a very similar case the other day but on a different phone, he resolved it by rooting with superoneclick(beware of the various versions) .
Maybe googling on the superoneclick error might get u somewhere.
Maybe..maybe the new phones shipped with 2.3.6 have the recovery mode disabled/blocked(seems unlikely) but i've not been able to confirm this.
---------- Post added at 05:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:14 PM ----------
Also, is ur phone Y Pro or Y TXT?
Which country are u frm?
I uploaded the video to show you better.
It's been 3 days since I started trying. I googled everything I could, I tried to resolve every problem with each method.
The only way left is the recovery, so I will try different combinations.
It's Y PRO.
I'm from Italy.
Tried soe combinations...useless. Is there something else I can do?
Well it can be frustrating at times...try holding down the keys like forever, even after it reboots..maybe next time it'll boot into recovery instead of android.
Have u come across any alternate firmwares, either stock or custom that u could flash?
U have no problem entering download mode right?
Well, I'm not very into Android, it's the first time I use it. That means I didn't understand a word of your second sentence.
Ah, I don't even know how to enter in download mode.
Thank you for helping me, really!
Firmwares are the files which u can flash on ur phone which gives u a fully working operating system.
Flashing = Installing
Stock firmware/rom = factory samsung firmwares
custom firmware/rom = 'custom' like cyanogenmod
I don't think there are any custom roms for y pro as of now on xda.
Seems download mode for pro is voldown+home+power
Use this site http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3 , u'll find all the firmware and guides on how to flash them.
U can also find it here http://www.tsar3000.com/Joomla/inde...0-b5512-galaxyypro&catid=57:how-to&Itemid=104
But i usually use sammobile.com
U can check ur current firmware version in the About Phone or by typing in some code like *1234# (i don't remember exactly)
Take your time, don't rush into it. U'll lose all ur data when u flash firmwares.
U don't have any necessity to change firmwares at this moment, but the more u know the better it is.
I'm still wondering why u can't get into recovery.
My firmware is GINGERBREAD 2.3.6
I have Kies, so my phone is fully updated: why should I download the firmware?
The download mode doesn't seem to start too.
This whole thing is crazy!!!
Besides, my phone's memory is getting full, so I really need to move everything to the SD (the apps are already there)!
C'mon download mode has to work..else it's almost useless.
Even when updating with kies the phone goes into download mode during the process.
I was just thinking if u could flash to a previous firmware version maybe u could get into recovery..just a thought.
2.3.6 is the android version, u should also see something like B5510ITVLB1 or B5510ITVLF1
As for memory, rooting is the best way to move all the apps to sd...but there are some applications on market which can move certain apps, not all to sd without root.
There is a galaxy y forum here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1469 maybe the folks there can help u more.
My firmware version is B5510XXKK2.
Installing a previous firmware should be my last chance, since it deletes everything. :'(
I'll try on that forum too.
same problem here
Hello,
I know this is a old threat but I have the same problem and I am from the Netherlands..
I've bought this phone with a screenlock password and the previous owner don't not know him anymore
I cannot enter recovery and downloade mode..
I tried evrything i could think of. The Phone is simlocked. Don't know if that is the problem?

Press volumen down, then Home, then Power.
In above 5 or 6 seconds you will see the Samsung banner, then release all the keys at the same time.
Almost instantaneously you will see a very different menu, and then finally you have to press (as indicated in the screen) the volume up key.
Now you are in download mode, and you can plug the usb cable to connect the mobile to a computer with Odin and then flash the ROM (for instance).
Cheers.

Same problem - tried everything - can go into download mode - what next?
Hi, I have the same problem. My phone got blocked because my mother tried the pattern too many times. The phone won't accept my gmail login and password (even though it is correct). I've tried a hard factory reset (volume up, home, off) but it doesn't work. I can get in to download mode by pressing volume down, home and off-button but I have no idea what I need to do next. Any advice anyone?

Hi there.
If you read spanish, you can take some ideas from my site:
https://wiki.legido.com/doku.php?id=android:gt-b5510
Summary:
1. Get a GNU/Linux machine (you can build a Virtual Machine on top of Virtualbox for instance)
2. Get SplitFUS2
https://wiki.legido.com/doku.php?id=android:gt-b5510#splitfus2
3. Download a ROM file:
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-B5510
4. Uncompress it and generate the required files:
Example:
./splitfus2 -w -s S6102DXMA2_S6102OLBMA1_S6102DXMA2_HOME.tar.md5
5. Get a Window$ machine
6. Download Odin on this machine:
https://wiki.legido.com/doku.php?id=android:gt-b5510#odin
7. Plug the mobile on download mode to the windows machine through a USB cable
8. Pass the files obtained on step 4 to the Window$ machine
9. Upload new firmware with Odin to the mobile
I hope that this summary helps you.

I've got a Verizon Galaxy s6 that won't boot. Please help.

I received this galaxy s6 as part of a trade for another phone. The original owner said the phone's speakers would stop working sporadically, but was still usable after a power off/on. Until one day it would no longer boot. When I press the power button, the "Galaxy S6" screen will come on for a few seconds and then the screen goes black (accompanied by a blue-light blue pulsing led). It will go into download mode and recovery mode, but will not boot up. and this is how it was given to me.
I've tried:
factory data reset - no change
Install stock firmware (downloaded from Sam mobile, also from android rootz ) via Odin (shows failed device 4 binary 1) -no change
Upgrade firmware via kies - invalid serial number when imei is entered (from sticker on the battery.
I'm a little ignorant when it comes to software issues, so there would be no possibility of over-explaining. and any and all help would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Use smartswitch (its the alternative for kies on the s6). Theres an emergency recovery option.
Tried it. says device is not supported. So I select the "more" option then emergency recovery option and it says "if a software update fails to complete, the device will appear in the list below" however the device is not listed, so there is nothing to select.
Device initialization option gives me an invalid serial number error
Used an imei converter to get the dec and get "serial number not found on server".

Hi, I've the same problem with a S6 (italy), the issue came up after a crash on the floor (glass back cover broken).
I gave a look inside, but every seems fine, nothing broken. A friend of mine told me that could a damaged emmc, he owns a repair shop and back in the days saw a lot of S3 with the same symptoms.

Hi - I really am in need of help. My phone which is a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (was) running latest 6.x firmware,
but custom and rooted via DarkStalker's awesome ROM. All was running fine for months. I did do one thing before my phone died,
I turned OFF developer option and forgot to turn it back ON before I i rebooted. Now the phone is bricked ( I pray it is SOFT not
hard bricked ). When I turn ON the phone it just says "FRP Lock is ON" and then shuts off.
I can enter download mode but NOT recovery. This phone is my work phone and has so much important stuff on it, I just have to fix this.
Plus my wife will shot me for paying $700 and breaking it.
Anyway ... I assume I must go back to stock some how. I can boot to download mode and connect to Odin. But I tried to flash:
1) SM-N920T_1_20160702132553_r0dr7864oe.zip
Also I tried this file ( again via Odin )
2) Noble_Kernel_Auto-Root_N920T_v0.1_Rebuid3.tar.md5
But BOTH files resulted in a FAIL on the Odin screen. ( SEE PIC BELLOW )
Now when I boot it boots to a screen that says this:
Odin Mode
Download Speed: Fast
Product name: SM-N920T
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Custom
FRP LOCK: ON
Secure Download: Enabled
Knox Warrenty Void: 1
AP Swrev: B:2 K:0 S:0

Custom Binary (Recovery) BLOCKED by FAP Lock

Sooooo basically I can NOT boot to the OS because the FRP lock is ON and I guess should be OFF, but when I try to Odin Flash I get a FAIL at the end of the flash. ( again see picture bellow )
PLEASE HELP I will try anything. .. My job and my wife are going to kill me soon.....
Cheers to all
Thanks

Unfortunately I did the exact same thing as you one time. And unfortunately Odin wouldn't allow me to flash anything. But there was this tool we use to use all of the time for the s4 and it's called Samsung Kies. As in "keys". Basically as long as you can get in download mode it doesn't matter how you brick it.
You just soft bricked it but the bad thing is we can't flash unadulterated version of firmware with Odin. So if frp lock is on Odin is a no go. And when I say unadulterated I mean one that's not directly from Samsung not touched or changed in anyway.... which are hard to come by in many cases in my experience. When the recovery is changed it won't pass an Odin check usually if frp lock is on. Matter of a fact I don't think you can flash anything with fap lock on with Odin. Due to the fact that frp lock is basically saying bootloader locked.
When you turn off oem mode you unlock the checks put in place by the firmware and hardware during boot. Odin uses these checks also so when you try and flash it'll be a no go. Good news for you is this already happened to me and I figured why couldn't I just restore with heimdall. Well that's a no go to. So final solution was to try out kies that I had remembered using heavily with the s4.
1. Download Samsung Kies3. Link: http://www.samsung.com/pk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/#none
2: Install and open kies.
3. Go to the the tools tab and select firmware upgrade and initialization.
4. It will ask for your model name. Type SM-N900T.
5. Now it will ask for the Serial Number of your device. It is located on the back of your phone toward the bottom. Type that in and hit enter.
6. Now a message pops up and says the device can be restored etc...... Hit OK.
7. Now a message says Now initializing latest version. Hit OK.
8. Now it will Prepare software for initialization.
9. A screen will come up that says "Please follow the steps below to proceed with emergency recovery.
A. Make sure that the device is turned off.
B. Switch the device to recovery mode and reconnect the cable.
- To switch to recovery mode, turn on the device by pressing the Power button while holding down the Volume control "▼" Button and the Home button, and then press Continue (the Volume control "▲") button.
10. When it detects you are in download mode it will take care of the rest.
Try not to make the same mistake again.
I just rebooted with the developer options turned off on Friday. I was on ph1 firmware. Saw joeyv (spelling?) Deodexed stock rom with an option for an Odin installation. Did the installation through Odin and was back to stock. Odin flashed the kernel and tarp combo and was back up and running with root. No information was lost. For anyone else having this problem.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Thank you JohnMonsour for taking the time to write all that. I will save it for future use if needed. BUT ... thanks to Josezr I got it fixed.
I was able to boot into download mode like I stated, but I just needed the correct firm to flash. They all failed until I tried
N920TUVS4DPH2_N920TTMB4DPH2_TMB.zip ( Thank you Josezr ).
I just flashed that file and Odin completed and phone rebooted to OS. So ALL IS GOOD. My only question now is ... inside the developer
options section ( in settings ) I have turned Developer options back ON but ... all the options that can be set ON or OFF are in the OFF
position and I am not sure which should be turned on. Can anyone please give me a quick run down on how they should be set .. like this:
stay awake on
next ones set to,
on
off
off
off
on

ect............
=======================
Debugging

ect........

This is crazy I just ran into my phone becoming locked yesterday. T mobile sent me a update and my phone of course was set to auto update and my phone would do nothing it was a FRP LOCK. All I did was download odin and used this site to walk me through it all files are provided thanks to [ROM] [STOCK] N920TUVU3DPG1 | 6.0.1 | Deodexed | KNOX Free | 7.22.2016 by jovy23. At the bottum of the page is the download and also instruction to use odin. This was a life saver. LINK/ http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...rom-n920tuvu1boh4-5-1-1-deodexed-ciq-t3194270. Copy and past everything you need to do to get out of a FRP Lock situation is in this tutorial. Thanks again Jovy23.

its so much wrong with this write up its not funny...for one his model number is sm-n920t second if he is in frp lock then he cant turn his phone off, i tried this method it doesnt work period
you can't turn your phone off?
Yeah actually you can hard reset it and then enter download mode....
Hold volume down the home button and power for like 10 seconds then when the screen turns black you quickly hold volume down, home, and power......
You might not be able to turn it off but you can still enter recovery and download mode.
You might not be able to get into recovery depending on how screwed up your phone is.
And kies3 version was the only one that would work with the above method, now kies has checks in place that checks your knox status and if you've tripped knox it won't work. I can rewrite the guide and link the proper kies if it's really necessary. But this is from 2016 so I am sure that I don't need a proper rewrite.
And at this point I'm pretty sure it might not even matter what version of kies is used it probably does all checks server-side. So this method is obsolete for an almost obsolete phone.
Sorry I didn't help you.

S7 won't boot (Stays at the pulsating samsung logo)

Hello XDA friends,
I hope to find a solution for my problem with my Galaxy S7.
I've flashed the newest Version of Android with Smart Switch, but it won't boot to Android. It just starts "Samsung, Powered by Android" then switches to just the Samsung Logo then gets hot and after 5-6 Minutes it vibrates 2 times but nothing is showing on the screen except the Samsung logo.
I tried everything, rebooting it several times, multiple tries with factory reset. Nothing helps.
Hopefully you guys can understand my broken german english.
This is what the Download Mode currently says:
ODIN MODE
DOWNLOAD SPEED: FAST
PRODUCT NAME: SM-G930F
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Samsung Official
FRP LOCK: ON
Secure Download: Enabled
WARRANTY VOID: 0
RP SWREV: B:1 K:0 S:0
I have a similar issue to this, no fix found yet though.
Flash stock with ODIN 3.12.3
^^^^ Flash stock OS with Odin, if Odin returns with FAIL straight away go into TWRP and format System and Data then flash stock OS
I already tried 7 different stock roms, all have the same problem.
And I cant flash TWRP because the FRP Lock is on. And because I cant boot into Android I am not able to switch it off.
So far, i've tried these firmwares:
Smart Switch - Nope
SM-G930F_1_20170203142713_MOB_fac - nope
SM-G930F_1_20170210110639_6j1nt9xw0b_fac - nope
SM-G930F_1_20170418223200_pf0e8ktcz8_fac - nope
G930FXXU1APB4_G930FVFG1APB2_MOB - nope
SM-G930F_1_20170329175552_qghvj8op9t_fac - nope
SM-G930F_1_20170317121226_ipt5jsw6zo_fac - nope
And on every firmware there is the same problem. Pulsating logo, but nothing happens except the phone gets warm for some time and then cools back down.

I see all the firmwares you have tried have been from 2017, so I assume are all Nougat?

And a different USB cable to flash with?
If not a different PC, try a different USB port, if using 3.0, try 2.0 and vice versa
Tried it on a different pc and on different usb ports, I even tried multiple versions of the rom on multiple ports.
Still no luck
Sounds like it might be time to RMA unfortunately

I can't send it back, since I got it from a friend and he had a screen repair from a non-samsung partnered shop.
So the warranty is void :/
I have had this problem in the past.
You need to download Samsung KIES 3
(Version 3.2.16084-2)
Select Firmware Upgrade & Initialization from TOOLS at top of APP.
MAKE SURE YOU CONNECT AND DISCONNECT WHEN KIES TELLS YOU TO.
Make sure you have your exact model (example: my model is SM-G930FD)
Make sure you have your Samsung Serial Number (example: NOT ACTUAL S59K432SLQF).
IF YOU DON'T HAVE SAMSUNG SERIAL NUMBER, YOU MIGHT HAVE IT ON YOUR RECEIPT OR BOX.
IF NOT, PERHAPS YOUR CARRIER CAN GIVE IT TO YOU.
DON'T WORRY ABOUT ANY SMALL SCREENS THAT POPUP AND SAY ANYTHING ABOUT NOT BEING SUPPORTED -OR-
THAT SMART SWITCH IS FASTER.
Eventually you will get to a screen that says
"The device can be initialized to its original settings.
All settings and data will be deleted, and the latest software verison will be installed.
Do you want to proceed with the firmware upgrade and initializastion? (OK CANCEL)
The app will download the firmware and then apply it to your phone.
Do not touch the cable or the phone while the process takes place.
When done, your phone will reboot as a new phone.

I did everything as You and Kies explained, sadly tho this also does not work for me....
This is so weird why is it constantly trying to boot and get stuck at the logo? :/
When you are in download mode, press and hold down volume, Home button, & Power key. When phone goes dark, switch from volume down to volume up, & keep holding power & home. This might get you into stock recovery.

I can access the recovery, but Wipe/Factory reset also makes no difference. Like i said in my first post

You may be able to find a local repair shop by searching through Google. OR-you can try searching for craigslist. Org and your city. Then lookup repair of your phone.

Have you tried flashing each section of the ROM one by one and attempt a boot after each?
Can't really think of anything else, it sounds as if the internal storage is having problems, as mentioned above, a repair shop could be your only hope now, but I already know they'll tell you the motherboard is faulty (even if it is not) unless you know of a reputable shop that doesn't BS customers for £
Try calling Samsung and ask them how much to reflash out of warranty.
It shouldn't be that much....

Bootloop Galaxy S7 Active

I have a phone that is in a constant bootloop and I can't make it stop. The phone will not allow me to factory reset it but using the button configuration (Home + Volume Up + Power button), a message displays starting "Recovery Mode not available due to MDM, restarting in 3 seconds". I receive the same message when I try to start the phone in Download Mode. I tried starting the phone in recovery mode but as soon as the home screen loads it reboots. I'm out of ideas, any help would be appreciated.

Well, from what I know, this is usually an issue on live demo devices, the usual fix for this requires being able to boot into either system, recovery or download mode. You can't get to either one so I'm not sure what you can do. Did you have some kind of password set before this?
MDM stands for Mobile Device Management, this feature prevents someone from stealing then resetting the device.
Can you get adb to do anything with the device? Maybe you can get adb to connect then use it to find and delete what is blocking you so you can boot.
Or maybe you can try a USB jig, you can buy them from reputable dealers on eBay for around or less than $5 US. Or you can make your own using an old USB cord and a 300k resistor or any combination of resistors that equal no more and no less than 300k. Instructions for how to make it are on YouTube in several places.
A USB jig is designed to force the device to boot into download mode. If it works, you can then flash your full stock firmware along with the PIT file for your model number, that will wipe everything and restore to factory condition.
Instructions for how to flash firmware along with the PIT are easy to find, the process is the same for all Samsung devices.

Droidriven- Thank you for the advise. I ordered a USB jig and will give that a shot and respond to the thread. Thanks again!
So I ordered the jig but it didn't work, I still get the MDM preventing phone from going into recover mode message.
