I had a G3 before this. It was a little bit big for my taste but I definitely did appreciate the high screen to body ratio. The S6 does feel much better in the hand than the G3 did for me, mainly due to its smaller size, though I preferred the curved back on the G3 more.
The screen on the S6 blows the G3's screen away. While both are 2k screen, I enjoy looking at the S6 screen much more. I also haven't noticed much difference in switching from a 5.5" screen to a 5.1" screen. In fact, I haven't missed it at all.
I thought I would miss Knock On, but I've found using the fingerprint scanner is actually easier than knock on, PLUS I have security. Previously, I didn't have any security on my phone because I couldn't be bothered to type in a password and Knock Code to me isn't secure. Anyone can see the pattern you've set. So another plus for the S6!
Battery life has been pretty close to what I was getting on the G3 even though the battery is a lot smaller. The optimisations Samsung have done on this phone have been executed well. I can go more than 36 hours on this phone with 4.5hr SoT, which was pretty much what I was getting with the G3 as well. Because the S6 supports quick charging and comes with a quick charger out of the box, charging the S6 is much easier and faster. While the G3 took me about 2.5 hours to charge to full, the S6 takes me less than 1.5 hours.
The speaker on the G3 was louder, but the S6 speaker sounds a lot better. There's much more bass and it doesn't sound nearly as tinny. No qualms with the placement of the speaker either. Being on the bottom is no issue for me.
The camera on the S6 is loads better than the G3. If this is important to you, then you should upgrade on this alone. I've found I have enjoyed the pictures coming from the S6 much more than the G3.
Although the G3 has a removable battery and microSD card support, I never once used these features so the S6 not having them meant nothing to me.
The only con with the S6 is customisation can be limited. Xposed doesn't work and I do miss my Xposed modules. That's pretty much the only con to this phone for me.
S6 vs G3:
Camera - S6
Screen - S6
Battery Life - S6 (While the battery life is equal to me, the S6 wins because of quick charging and lasting the same on a smaller battery)
Speaker - S6
Phone Build - S6
Customisation - G3
Hope that helps. If you have any questions, let me know.

wow awesome!!! focus as you seem? you miss the laser?
The s6 is a much better phone as a everyday user imho. the only thing i wish it had better was two speaker on the bottom that was louder. other than that the screen and speed is killer fast. it also doesn't heat up as badly.
pros about s6 is that its smaller and also gives wireless charging/turbo charging. better processor and camera are about the same.
cons would be for me speaker not too loud and screen size is a lot smaller
Never use G3 but if you want a smaller phone with one-hand operation ability, this is the one. The S6 camera level is identical to G4, though the hardware on camera on G4 looks little better but the lens got somewhat distortion at corner while S6 doesn't has this problem, so I'll say overall still S6 a bit better in reality becoz it used a better lens.
AMOLED vs. IPS they both got pros and cons so it's hard to tell. But I always prefer AMOLED on cell phone and IPS only on PC monitor because being able to display true black is more important than just displaying better color on a phone.
S6 Exynos way better, more faster and not so hot as S808, plus Exynos audio quality is better than Qualcomm CPU.
However, if you need microSD and switchable battery then it's still only to go G4.
No, Wait for the Moto X and/or Nexus in October/November. In its current state this phone is worse in every aspect other than screen and camera. It may have the specs (soc-wise) but between the memory management issue and inconsistent battery-life and the fact that reports that the memory management fix is not included in the 5.1.1 update I'd pass.
How much I want a Nexus with this screen and the LG G4 camera/ Samsung Galaxy S6 video recording (LG G4 video recording is awful including audio).

Only two main problem of draining battery in my experiences. First one is Wifi, it will keep scanning at the background, so if you use wifi it will use a bit more battery than expected, it is a software bug. Second problem is the Google services on S6 rom drained many battery, if you disable the Location you will save many battery.
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/google-play-services-7-5-73-1976294-440-android-apk-download/
And update to this ver of Google services will save a lot of battery as well.
I don't meet any battery problem indeed, even slightly better than my Sony Z1 Compact. However, when I was first purchased S6, the first week is real draining quick bcoz new battery will need 1~2 weeks to optimize it, after that it's done. The most bugging me is poor memory managment(if you root it, you can apply a fix on XDA by yourself) and the camera color and exposure value still not optimized though the details and focus is real good.

It seems idle used a bit more battery than Qualcomm platform overnight. Since I'm only a medium to light usage of user(only check instant messages, Internet, little music/videos and very little games) so my SOT is always superb 7~8hrs(I also turned power saving on and turn the brightness as low as possible).
If you are heavy user(like crazy 3D gaming), I think on Earth all phone will just get the same bad SOT like 3~4hrs including IP6+, G4.
I like this phone but I mainly go for the camera part because you know I'm not a heavy user and any medium range phone is enough, so the only motivation to me to get S6 is camera. Well, the focus/speed/OIS blows out my Sony Z1c but Sony is still better on color/exposure but I think it is just a software issue and will fix later.

I get approximately the same battery life that I did with my N1 - no real improvement seen (stock or custom rom wise).
Hmmm not sure if that will make it break it for me if they are about the same. I heard some complaints about NFC draining battery, has that been solved?

That's the first time I heard about that. I've had my NFC on (didn't notice) and have had great battery life on light use. On light use, it lasted about 24 hrs before I charged it, never used it much for that one day. NFC doesn't gobble up battery like a bad app would.
The battery life on the NS is substantially better for me than I was getting on my N1, even with a slightly larger battery on the N1 (Seidio 1600 I think it was). I'm a fairly heavy user, in my opinion, and can make it through 16-18 hours and still have some juice left to spare. My N1 would never do that on the stock battery.
I cannot remember where I read about the NFC problems, but I could of just miss read something. I will see if i can find it! Thanks for the comparisons!
my bad
I miss-read the problems with NFC, it was a general battery life problem and they asked if NFC was turned off.
...nexusoneforum.net/forum/nexus-s-general-discussion/10495-battery-life-observations.html
That's what I thought... I turn my nfc off. I get a bit better battery that the nexus one... but I miss my trackball... noled isn't the same. Maybe with no trackball it would be about the same.
I could see how you would miss that, do you miss the functionality of the trackball? (scrolling through text, etc)
Nope, I would use the trackball to edit but the nexus s touch screen is great.
Good to know! Thanks!

I am also I bit missing the trackball of my Hero. Scrolling is not a big deal. There were 2 main uses for me:
there are some sites with very small image-links or buttons, so it is easier to select links/buttons them with trackball's navigation
search requests or URLs, which are submitted with typos - that's a pain. In most applications if you will start to retype them you will have a history list, but you can only resubmit them. There are really few apps, where there is also pencil-icon to the right of history entry, which allows to edit it. While with trackball that was that easy.

about the same
Hi guys.
I've been using my Galaxy S4 since May 2013 with no huge problems. However the last 2-3 months i've been experiencing a huge loss of battery life.
I have now come to conclusion that it is time to try out a new phone.
This is my demands:
- A screen close to the Galaxy S4 size which is 5"
- A battery life where I am able to not need to charge it as soon as i come home from school (mostly I am home at 3 o'clock and have to charge my phone at 5 on the good days)
- I need to have the option to install stock android (Cyanogenmod)
Right now I am trying to choose between the Nexus 5 and the LG G2 (same specs as Nexus, but a stronger battery)
What I would like to know is whether the battery life of the Nexus 5 will bother me or it is not really that big a problem? Or should i maybe consider a whole other phone? Price doesn't matter.
I use my phone non-stop for internet-surfing or music when i am on the bus. When including both the drive to and from school it is probably 2-3 hours in total. The rest of the day i only use it for regular use, like texting, calling etc.
I hope you will give me, your impression of the Nexus battery life and maybe an advice on which devices I should consider.
Thanks
Just buy G2, My Nexus 5 battery life is just not that good, G2 has better battery life and camera, the rest is on par, in my opinion G2 is a better deal

Hmm - well that was not the respons i had hoped to get. But it sounds like the criticism of the battery is justified?
Nexus 5 is an amazing device, but battery life is just not that great, I'm a moderate user, and I have to charge it two to three times a day, I've had G2 and Z1 too, they are little slower than Nexus (Nexus is the fastest android device out there), but they have better battery life, and camera, build quality too (shaky power button on Nexus reported by a lot of users including me).. Don't get me wrong, Nexus is still a great device, but in my opinion G2 is still better

Thanks for the reply. I feel like the users of the phone have more intel in how the device works, than the people doing reviews. So this helps me some more. Thanks.
Its also worth noting that many of us get t hours screen time a day without additional charges. 1 users review is not a cross section. You'll never get reliable advice in a device specific forum because usually the people with issues are the ones replying.
I'd take the g2

Look man, I don't have an issue, I'm using my Nexus 5 like it should be used (Wifi/Data always on, Auto brightness, 2 mail accounts, messenger, whatsapp, browsing), I'm not turning off Wifi or Data or anything, It's a smartphone, it should work for me, not the other way around.. With G2 and my usage, it could last for a day without any problem.. Z1 too
Nexus 5 is just not that good in battery department, great software, quick and stable updates, great low light camera capabilities, great screen (really good calibration) and outdoor visibility ...
So if you're not a heavy user, N5 will do just fine, If your like me, G2 will do a much better job

Don't be so aggressive. I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about everyone else who can get 5 hours screen with everything turned on (after all, its a smart phone)
All I'm saying is that for every 1 who says it has bad battery life, there's 10 that disagree. Its nothing personal. Please dont get aggressive and try to bait me into an argument. I'm just giving balance to the thread

I've had 7 hours once. I've posted screenshots. In the past.
Heavy is a subjective term. But I would call 4 hours screen on heavy. Others may call 2 hours gaming heavy. You're not gonna get 4 hours intensive gaming, sure
I'm not dissing your opinion on the G2 being "better". I'm just saying I have had good experiences with my Not battery.
I am a heavy user as well which is why i find his "complaint" og the battery useful.
But also gret to see that some people can use the nexus without problems! Although it doesn't make my choice easier.
Right now i am also considering the G3 mainly because of the screen quality. I just don't know if i can live with the big screen. Its an important choice, all the opinions i can get will give me some more Intel on how big a problem the battery is. I would hate to buy the phone and find out that the battery is useless.
Sent from my LG-V500 using XDA Free mobile app
I was using LG G2 5 days ago. I sold it and bought Nexus 5.
I just can tell that the only con of Nexus 5 against LG G2 is the battery. There's a %30 battery size difference. It's not insignificant. I'm living it now. It's really hard to be adapted Nexus 5 battery life after LG G2.
But in all other conditions Nexus 5 is a better device than LG G2. This list includes camera quality too. LG G2 takes really good shots with adjusted light. But in a low light condition it changes. G2 has issues with low light. YYou can fix it with rooting by the way.
If you're using the phone too much, playing games, browsing etc... you must choose LG G2. But if you want stability, feasibility and efficiency your way is Nexus 5.
On the other hand G3 won't be an option for you. Same battery but bigger screen and resolution against G2. The battery life of G3 won't be too much better than Nexus 5. Moreover if you play games it may be worse.
If you don't bother with sizes go get a Nexus 6. It has just 0.5" bigger screen than LG G3.

If you value screen quality you would do well to avoid the G3. Resolution does not equal screen quality as that phone proves quite well. It's a lower end 2K panel which serves no real purpose other than to drain the battery life faster than the G2 its said to replace, as well as reduce performance and add to that phones heat issues.
I would get a g2 before a g3, though I prefer the N5 for the in hand feel and software. To me the G2 feels like a Samsung S4 in both hardware and software, take that as you will.
For the record I am one of those who consistently sees 5-7 hours SoT over 1-2 days on Kit Kat but I do adjust the phone's settings for longer battery life. Still testing Lollipop but so far so good.
I know comparison of phones in Xda is against the rules

I've been using one here in India from the beginning August now. Its a good alternative to the M8 if you have a tight budget. I have no qualms about getting this phone, it's performance is at par with the M8 and definitely better than Z2, S5 and note 3, all of which my friends have. The 13mp camera does its job well, excellent shots in daylight, decent everywhere else. Apart from the different camera, a polycarbonate shell and a few other quirks, it's basically a M8.
From the above mentioned time, I've NEVER faced any lag. If anything, my phone performed on par, even even better at places, with a friends iPhone 6. The dot view cover is a good addition as an accessory.
If it's a dual SIM high end smartphone you're looking for, you can't go wrong with the E8. If you want to know anything in particular, feel free to ask.

1. Charges in around 2 hours with the charger provided with the box. Maybe lesser, I'm not sure because I charge overnight. But it's mostly a percent a minute. You can get better times by getting the 1.5A output charger.
2. GSam Battery Monitor shows :
Battery Life : 1d 13h
Screen On : 5h 30m
Basically easily lasts a day. Averages around 5-6h screen on time. And I have my sync on, use social networks vehemently, although I keep the battery saver on always (just the underclocking cpu option), except gaming.

I've heard from many people that one shouldn't charge overnight (basically it shouldnt be overcharged) and that it decreases the life of the battery ? What's your opinion on that please ; as i used to do that, but now stopped charging overnight as it keeps charging the battery even when it is full.....

From whatever knowledge I have of the batteries, they stop charging once they are fully charged. So there is no way they get "overcharged". As and when the battery drops a little, it again charges back itself. Which barely happens, because my phone loses only about 1-2% battery overnight if left idle.
Ideally, this view suggests that this won't have any impact on the overall life of the battery. I did the same with my One S for about 1 and a half years. It didn't show any signs of reduced battery life then.
Yes, different people do have different views on this topic, but I like to stick to my idea.
Hi, I also wanted to ask a question if you have the dual sim version. When using 3g or 4g data connection on sim1 can you use sim2 to either call or send sms?
Thanks
The only problem with E8 is less Custom ROMs . I haven't got any better custom ROM other than Bin Droid, less customisation but better than nothing. At least Bin Droid is providing 4.4.4 and HTC Eye and more colored themes

I absolutely agree. The only problem with this (awesome) phone is the lack of developer support. even on Xda, I can only found custom rom for the dual sim version. Mine is the single sim. :crying:
Otherwise. It's really a good phone. There are some times that makes me (kinda) envy M8, like the metal body, the infrared blaster, and especially the customization. Anyway.. we just have to wait and see about the lollipop update. if they filled their promise to update < 3 months, I'm a happy dude.

Hi, I also wanted to ask a question if you have the dual sim version. When using 3g or 4g data connection on sim1 can you use sim2 to either call or send sms?
Thanks

Yes, you can use it for call or sending sms; Also you can use 2g network for browsing from SIM 2
I have a question to the users oft a single sim Version: does it support rSAP (sim access profile) in Bluetooth?

rSAP? I never heard of it.
Hey guys, I just wanted to check if my battery life is abnormal or not. During normal usage, it's a bit hard for me to compare because I'm tending to use this phone a lot more than my previous one (Xperia Z1 Compact) but overnight, it would tend to lose at least 7-8%. Last night, I decided to try disabling auto-sync, put it on Power Saving and see what would happen (as well as closed all my apps through the regular task manager) and it dropped a whopping from 45% to 31%! Don't know how that happened.
When I go into the Power menu, I can see that Android System used 13%, Android OS and Screen used 10% each, Google Play Services used 9% and a few other apps and services used 4% or less. I got my Note Edge in Australia and is currently using it in the U.K but it's an international variant (SM-N915G) and is compatible with my current carrier (O2). I'm running stock 5.0.1 rooted. Do you guys think it's normal?
Another question regarding the battery: I have never owned a smartphone before that allowed me to switch batteries so I was wondering, would something like this or this be trustworthy? They seem really cheap and the capacity is 4200mAh whereas the stock battery is only 3000mAh. From your experience buying replaceable batteries, is it safe to use something like this (not to mention, they says they're compatible with the N9150 but didn't mention the N915G)? Thanks a lot in advance!
A lot of folks have had similar issues with lollipop. Backup all your data and do and full reset. Seems to sort out the battery drain issues
Good luck

Thanks a lot. Just a quick noobie question, should I just backup with Titanium and then do a reset from inside the OS or should I do it through CWM (I already have a recent enough nand backup). Cheers!
I have had horrid battery life since lollipop upgrade. I want to go back to kit kat so bad. Primarily because of the battery and because notifications appear as overlays in some apps now instead of on the edge. The phone also is less responsive. I kick myself every day for upgrading.
Side note, are the batteries listed above supposed to actually fit inside the phone with no physical distortion?

I haven't had any major issues since upgrading to Lollipop, I was just hoping to squeeze a bit more out of the battery life. As for responsiveness, I'd say it's about the same, if not slightly better. You sound like you might also do with a factory reset. I just want to know if the factory reset option in the settings would do the job or if I should do it from the recovery.
As for the above batteries, I would imagine that they should fit perfectly since they were designed for the Note Edge but since I have had no experience with replaceable batteries, I would like to hear some confirmation.
I have mine on power saving mode and screen brightness on 43%. I get two full days usage so I only charge it once every two days.

In those 2 days, could you take a look and let me know how long your screen was on for?
I had a battery from the same manufacturer as your first link for a s2, it was apparently bigger in capacity, but drained faster than the stock battery and swelled after two weeks to the point that the rear cover wouldnt close fully.
Id steer clear if i was you.

Yeah, that was my concern. The only time I had a higher capacity battery fit snugly into a phone and work as intended was when I had my htc sensation. Anker made a higher mA battery that really worked. Everything now seems to be a sham. I will avoid it.
You can't fit more capacity of battery in the same size more than it's done by Samsung, otherwise they would do it. These are just fake numbers, I'm sure they're even less than the 3,000 made by Samsung.
As for the resetting your phone, settings option pretty much does the job.
I was thinking of getting Z5 but have been kinda put off by initial user reviews. It sounds like the Z3 has better performance and battery life, while the Z5 has a fingerprint scanner and better camera.
Has anyone gone from a Z3 to Z5 that can comment on which one they find better?
Also will Sony's new camera update come to Z3 in November as well?

So settings are auto brightness with brightness bar around 20% nd using stamina mode, all apps closed and wifi off only 4G on and this would be the same for both phones.
Friday night/saturday morning I took my phone off charge around 1 am woke up at 9.15am and battery drained 1% compared to the usual zero % on z3 so i thought not bad, from 10am I used the internet via wifi and the battery just started to dip I was like my gosh the Z3 is not like this. from 11 I was on the phone to my cousin who now has my Z3 I spoke to him for 45mins, I got to work and my battery was 89% & I did a 8 hour shift from 12pm wiith 4G on alll the time as I sometimes use my phone for a translator or if i need to check anything, at 5pm battery went down to 80% I went on lunch for 45mins and was using the internet and phone calls again for around 20mins battery dipped to 69%(it drops quite quickly on the internet, after that I turned my internet off by the time i finished work and left at 8.30pm i had 65% now when i was using the Z3 during the same 8 hour period, same usage I would have left work with around 82%.
On Average when I am at work my Z3 battery would last me 3 days easily as I dont have much time during the day to use the phone, on a day off when i use it more then 2 days or just under. With the Z5 it is a definately a day less battery in each scenario. Depending on Z5 Premium battery I might actually just trade my Z5 for the premium tbh as I feel I really need to 'baby' the Z5 to get good battery and I didn't have to do that with the Z3.

No such issues here mate, smooth as silk and despite benchmarsk etc this thing is a damn site faster than my Galaxy S6 now thats what you call lag and don't even get me started on my Note 4.
I do have a few issues with my Z5 though and I will be returning it for a new one tomorrow is when I connect it to my laptop to transfer my files, it starts going crazy it keeps connecting/disconnecting and when it does stay connected I then get a message saying Z5 busy when I am trying to transfer files and finally sometimes it wont recognize headphones and i have to plug/unplug then or twist the headphones around in the jack to gain connection.

Wow that's great then, heard differently from others but I guess I'll try and take a look at a store to see for myself. Haha yeah I had a G3 and that was the definition of lag.
Dam those problems sound annoying, how long have you had it for? For the first problem you could try a factory reset but the second problem sounds like a hardware fault.
Also are the camera and speakers much better than the Z3's?

I have both phones though I have CM12 on the Z3. It's hard to make a comparison as the Z3 has root and that has a lot of pluses. The issue I had with the Z3 is the charging flap is a pain and I never really could find a magnetic charging solution that I really liked.
From my perspective two big pluses of the Z5 are:
- position of charging point (and lack of flap)
- Qualcomm 2.0 charging
I'm not convinced the battery life on the Z5 will be all that bad once i get root. Right now it is hit or miss so far.
You know that the z3 also has quick charge 2.0, right?

Yes definitely can't argue with performance amazing.
I got the phone on friday morning and thank I tried that and still same issue so I will return it today and get a new one.
Camera is miles better than the z3 infact camera was one of my biggest gripes regarding the z3 along with the audio volume in headphones both are far better on the z5.
As for loud speaker it is marginally better than the z3 not much but i prefer the placement of the speaker on the z5 much better, I didn't like on the z3 aesthetically.

Battery definately isnt as bad as some review have made out but it not near z3 levels either and I dont root my phones until after a while.
To chip in, as another user coming from the Z3 to the Z5 I wholeheartedly agree with RCJ89's comments.
I'm very happy to have upgraded to the z5 from the z3

So you aren't having any performance issues either? How are you finding the battery life compared to Z3?
Upgraded here as well from a Z3 and it's been great so far. The battery life is probably about 15% shorter (at least for my usual routine). My battery is at 23% right now (8:25pm). I unplugged it from the charger at 6:30am. The Z3 would be at 35% at this time. Not too bad when compared to my work Samsung Note 4 that usually dies at 3:30pm.
Wow, I'm amazed by comments here... I bought Z5 2 weeks ago and I have couple inputs versus Z3 :
Minuses:
-Display is worse than in Z3, please run on both some FHD YT video i.e. "Lean On", display in Z3 is far far sharper! Please look on carpets or any other details in mentioned video. (I don't know how to increase sharpness of Z5 display, even with root). Also contrast is better in Z3 (faces in the same video). Really annoying, I'm professional photographer so I noticed this in seconds... Maybe Sony tried to "force" people to purchase Premium version, which I guess has much better sharpness and contrast, but this is dirty playing. ;/
-External speakers are worse. Z3 speakers are playing more clean.
-No magnetic socket... Im wondering what will happen with USB socket after 1y...
-Missed some functions, maybe this is Lollipop vs. Kitkat issue (I still have KK with root on Z3) i.e. "smart rotate" which I liked in Z3.
-Battery... Like it was mentioned, standard scenario with Z3 was around 3 days, with Z5 is 2 days... disappointing.
Pluses:
+ Camera, especially autofocus, this is really amazing. I'm impressed.
+ Fingerprint reader, very comroftable...
I will not compare performance, because I didn't found any perf issues on Z3 itself and on any game, so even if Z5 is more powerful I didn't noticed it. Hard decision for me, probably I will sold Z5 or wait for EOY to some update, if Sony will not increase display sharpness and contrast I will back to Z3. BTW, on both I'm using "X-reality" but in fact I checked all options, simple need to increase sharpness like we have such option in any PC display... If someone know how to do this on Xperia I will be grateful.
EDIT: I updated firmware and it seems screen is almost identical right now to Z3, contrast increased, sharpness also. Still there is noticable difference when we compare two displays (Z3 slightly sharper) however, now its really good. Annoying is adaptive light, it completly cannot set proper brightness - even if I have brightness slide to max in shadow it is too dark... Obviously in full light is ok, but it looks like brightness slider completly doesnt work... ****ty programmers.
I have used the Z3 for a year and currently using the Z5 for over a month, here are my few cents (both devices I used are completely stock, they are not rooted or BL unlocked):
Appearance
No doubt the Z5 looks stunning and much better than Z3. Z5 extremely feels much better to hold than Z3 because of the flatter sides which reminds me of the original Z. On the Z5, there is a black frame on the front which I thought it was going to be a hassle to hold but I was wrong. The phone feels great in hands. One thing I extremely dislike is that they removed the charging dock on the Z5, instead they replaced it with the flapless USB port which is cool but not convenient. I wash my Z3 often but I can quickly wipe the phone dry and charge it with the docking port. However, on the Z5, I have to wait till the USB port is dry before I can charge which is annoying because it may take up to an hour for the port to dry. I do prefer the placement of the volume rocker on the Z3, its not much of a big deal on the Z5 though but may take some time to get used to.
Finger print reader/power button
I don’t use the power button often like little to none on both devices. The finger print reader is somewhat a hit or miss depending if my finger is wet or dry. Dry of course is much easier, but when my finger is sweaty it may not work after 5 tries. It’s a bonus to have the finger print reader but I am not extremely “wow” by it on the Z5. Its fast though just not as accurate as I hope it would, haven’t tried wet fingers on the iPhone 6S or Samsung S6 though so cant complain here. Sony also went with a flatter power button/finger print reader which sometimes i find myself not scanning my finger on the right place. The sides are flat and the reader is also flat, so if you're not looking you might miss it. Not a big deal though as the power button is slightly dented in.
Battery Performance
The 200 mAh difference makes a huge battery performance difference. I used to get 1~1.5 days on my Z3 whereas on the Z5 I have found myself repeatedly charging throughout the day. This depends on my usage, on light usage I may require to charge once during the half the day for a short period of time, but on heavy I might charge twice or once for a longer period of time. Keep in mind I do not charge my devices over night. I usually keep it at 100% before I unplug and go to sleep. I have purchased Quick Chargers 2.0 for home and car usage, so I can easily get throughout the day without a sweat. And NO quick charge 2.0 does not work on Z3. I think it only works on Japanese Version of Z3. If you do not own a quick charger and then getting throughout one day would be a problem on the Z5. And believe me, Quick charge 2.0 makes a difference, I hated how I had to wait to charge on the Z3 because it will take forever. Rumours say Android 6.0 will make the battery performance much better on the Z5, who knows….
CPU Heat
The rumours regarding the S810 chip is true. I do find the Z5 heating up faster than my Z3 under heavy and light usage. Now, Sony may have added two heat pipes into the Z5 so the back isn’t as “hot” as some people have described. To me, it is “warm” sitting around 42 degrees Celsius (max). Keep in mind that I live in Vancouver, the weather here is much cooler at the moment. Don’t know about summer, will have to wait till next year.
Display
The screens on both devices aren’t superior but decent for the human eyes. The Z3 has a cooler colour (blue-ish tone), whereas the Z5 is much warmer (reddish tone). But it doesn’t matter as much as you can adjust the screen colour in the settings. Both devices aren’t as bright under the sun. I haven’t encounter a device that is bright enough lol. Aside from the colours both screens pretty much looks identical.
Performance
Both devices perform extremely well under almost any circumstances. It is buttery smooth throughout the whole OS. I had fully encrypted both devices, including the SD card. The difference is the 4 (32 bit) vs 8 cores (64 bit). I find the Z3 load up apps a bit faster than the Z5 due to the higher clock speeds. But the Z5 performs better on multitasking when switching between apps due to the cores. The only issue I have is the “clear all button” on the Z5 recent task menu, it lags there even on the newest update. Not a big issue but I hope they fix it.
Camera
I am not a professional photographer so I cannot comment much on this. But base on my average use as an average consumer, I do find the Z5 produce slightly better images than the Z3. I currently have a defected camera on the Z5 so I am not going to go into details.
Audio
The audio quality on the Z3 is better than the Z5. I say this because I use the speakers a lot. On both devices I find the top speaker to be slightly louder than the bottom. The Z3 produce a much deeper and clearer sound (more bass?) in compared to Z5. In terms of loudness, they are roughly the same.
Overall, there are pros and cons on both devices and it really depends if you want to the new look and finger print scanner on the Z5. Or whether you have the money to burn. The Z5 is definitely not a “wow” when jumping from a Z3 or Z4/Z3+. I do not regret getting the Z5 because i extremely fell in love with its appearance.
