[app][4.4+][rpg-generators]Rpg Helper 3 - Android Apps and Games

*******EDIT********
not sure if anyone is still following this thread but this app is now on google play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmail.mrgreaper2004.rpghelper3
it is still free, and its still with out adverts
I am now going to remove the attachement as ofcourse it is better to use the play store version which is much more uptodate
note to mods: since the app is out on play store if you feel its better to delate this thread (I'm a bit worried its almost like spam to just link to my app like this) then I totally understand.
************************
Ok so this is my first post on this section and my first android app!
So what is "Rpg Helper 3" ?
Well its a character generator im working on for core D&D and similer games (the stats it rolls can be adapted to most rpg games) it contains a suite of generators that i have been working on for about 2 months, and will be expanding. The generators can be accessed seperatly as well.
Rpg helper 3 is your first one...ummm 3?
yep first android app, 1 and 2 were on the windows phone os, they are called "Rpg app (1st edition)" and "Rpg app (2nd edtion)" since im now an android owner i ported my app across, made the interface much sleeker (in my opinion) and progressed to add more content to it...this will be the app that gets future support and updates!
So if you need a quick npc, then this is for you, need to generate a quick tavern name and description, i got you covered, players asking what the bard is singing ...no problem, need a quick town description...yep. Player annoying you and you want a random fear to give him ...bingo
Want to export it as an html file ? yep
share the result via email? no problemo
(the very tired me recorded video of my app lol) - (fun drinking game, take a shot every time i say "umm" )
Known bugs:
The full sheet generator is generating more taverns and gangs then it should
When sharing via facebook it does not enter text in the post field (facebook dont allow it) but its copied to the clipboard for you so you can paste it in
lots of grammatical and spelling errors...i'll get to them
in plain text exporting of the full sheet some html code remains...yep working on it
What i ask of you :
feedback
do not decompile and use my methods!
do not share outside of XDA
When i get enough money to buy google play access (and the app is more mature) i plan on selling the app for about 50p on there (Prevously i tried the donation only approach and not a single user donated lol) but this version (possibly future versions versions too) will always be on here for free
This thread is a work in progress
UPDATE 21/06/2015
fixed surname bug
added dice roller function (its in its own separate page rather then in the generator)

24 downloads no replys,
Is there no market for this kind of app, or no interest in the app on this site?
is 4.4 too high as a start api for my app?
Were you one of the 24 downloaders? did you have issues installing? or running the app?

Works pretty good so far!

Cool
Couple of quick questions,
any of the generators you find yourself using more then the others?
what would you most like to see added?

Maybe a dice roller?

That is something i plan to add, though as a separate screen, the idea being you choose the dice to roll, the number of those dice and then outputted is each roll plus the total (the idea it would be useful for fireballs etc)
so yep that feature is coming, im just waiting for sufficent time to sit down and do some more coding (work is a nightmare at the minute).
With luck some others may also of tried it and dropped some feedback too by then

App Suggestions for my project

Hi everyone, i know there are tonssssss of nice people here on xda forums, and i was just hoping for some suggestions because i have to choose a project to work on.. any java game / application which is not too tough is fine. It doesnt have to be an original application, so i was thinkin maybe some simple apps which u guys love? I'm still not that good at it as i have just started learning bout using netbeans to develops the java apps.. i will have bout a month or two to work on it. please give me some suggestions? thank you everyone Much appreciated.
cloning/image app/program for windows mobile
i do not know how hard it would be but just a thought, but it should be a true image .... something like acronis or seagate etc but for windows mobile
how about using the blu tooth technology to turn the phone into a ps3 key board similar to the g remote for ur windows desktop.
or app that is like winterboard where it manages ur cabs alot more organized so u can switch them off and on isntead of deleting and replacing clocks lock screens etc etc
a craigslist app is a very popular
ebay app
sound boards or voice changers
a cocktail drink guide
synthasizer
as for games
here
are a list of games that would be cool
teenage mutant ninja turtles arcade version
left for dead the 8 bit version(google it)
plants v.s. zombies
iphone version of resident evil 4
maybe gta china town wars or even gta 1
mortal kombat
fallout 1 or 2
how about;
an app which uses the oem headphones and mike and turns them into a noise-canceling headset
a music editing app like audacity
and (my favourite) a light saber app
game
Well 1st congradulations on becoming a developer. I too in my spare time develop but I develop games. If this is your 1st time developing a complete project I would suggest a simple game. A game like pong, space invaders, or pacman. I dont know your level but those can be made relatively easy and give you time to add something to make an original twist. Since I program in C language I dont know if any of the commands are similar in java maybe I could help. Goodluck on your project and keep us posted.
This is proly a tough one, but one I would (and many others) love to see on our HD2 phones.
Netflix watch instantly app from our queue.
Why they half assed the Netflix app in the first place is beyond me.
thanks for all the suggestions guys! knew some of you here on xda would be happy to gimme some ideas. First i thought nobody was gonna bother replying. lol. thanks again and I will keep you guys informed when i decide what to do and if I need any help. Thanks a lot everyone.
I just noticed your handle; football-fan. I am assuming you mean soccer?
Perhaps combine your love for the game with your project and develop something relating to the upcoming World Cup.
An app that has the game fixture, match time etc. It could also connect and update scores and match stats as they happen. It could keep track of the heats and results. Keep a tree/chart of who wins and loses, who makes it to the finals etc.
I have no doubt there are plenty of people out there who would love an app like that. Especially considering you could produce something that is ad free. I am assuming that any official app that comes from commercial organisations will be plastered with sponsorship logos and the like.

thanks for the idea!
but my lecturer was saying it would be better if the apps that we make would require move.. interaction / input from the user?

How about a playlist editor for wmp? Something that would allow you to browse folders and select tracks and build a playlist from scratch.
It may seem a pretty plain application, but it would mean coding a decent GUI (that would obvously run purely on user interaction), but it would still have some more "gutsy" stuff, like system access, reading folder and files etc., and you'd also have to make sure you can build a playlist file. (I have no idea what format a playlist is in - it could be a simple list, but is more likely to be xml)

Looking for a good 'Word' Game

Guys,
I'm looking for a good 'Word' game for the TF.
Not one like Scrabble or where you have to re-arrange a group of letters to form as many words as you can.
No, what I'm trying to find is one where you are first presented with a collection of letters in a large block and you then have to tap on each letter to form a word. You are then given a score for either the length of the word or the type of letters used.
As you tap away and a word is formed, the remaining letters above drop down the screen to replace the ones you have used and are then replaced with new ones from the top... if you get my drift.
I don't like timer's as I like to take my time, pause if I want or come back to a previously saved game.
It's a bit of an ask but can anyone recommend such a game?
You're describing the Dropwords game almost exactly (it does have a timer).
There are free and paid versions on the Android market:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eekgames.worddrop&hl=en
Regards,
Eric
Perfect Eric... Nice one.
When you said it had a timer I very nearly gave up on it as I don't like timers, I like to take my time and save so I can come back later.
However, because you took the effort to post I should take the effort in trying it out.
I'm very pleased I did because on loading I immediately noticed you can select a variety of speeds for the timer..... including a 'non-timer'.
Also, you can save the game and return later.
Perfect Eric..... perfect.
Good suggestion....it's a lot of fun...but it's not optimized for tablets...it would be even better then.
@Beards,
You're welcome. It's one of my favorites.
You actually helped me out - I never bothered to check out the timer options.
Thanks!
@rpavich,
It may not be optimized for tablets, but it works great full-screen on my Transformer.
Some time ago, I was also looking for a similar game (on a different OS). So much so that I made my own, which seems to fit your criteria. The name is Wordsler and is available in the Android Market (I don't have 8 posts here, and apparently not allowed to place a direct link yet).
It's got a non-timer mode, a 2 minute timer mode, and an online mode (where everyone gets the same sets of letters within a 24 hour period).
This is just a spare-time hobby, and I'm not great with graphics, so it's nothing fancy or shiny, but I think the gameplay works quite well.

For anyone else, here's a direct link to the game Silkswift mentions.
I had a quick look at the two pictures shown of the game on The Market. It wasn't much to go on but I downloaded and installed.
Unfortunately as soon as I went to run Wordsler it then asked me to download two sets of libraries.
Nothing is mentioned on either The Market or your developers Web Site of these libraries being required so to anyone not knowing what these are or what they do, I think most people will then do as I did which was to close the App down and uninstall.
If Wordsler is going to need additional files to run you do need to let the downloader know in advance and explain why they are needed and what happens when they are run.
HI Beards, thanks for checking it out. My apologies for not mentioning the additional libraries here. The description in the market does mention them at the beginning (with a few stars for emphasis), but it probably could use a better explanation. The extra libraries are part of the android-qt project (port of Qt apps to android).

Yes, going back to The Market I see you have now added the information on the libraries required. You also now mention it may be better to install over Wifi.
This is a good call and another reason why you needed to mention the additional libraries in The Market link.
It would also be good if you stated the actual size of the additional download. That way the installer knows full well what to expect, which in turn makes for a happier user of the software.
Although I don't think it is what I am looking for (I prefer a much larger rectangular block of letters with actions similar to that of Dropwords).
However, I'll give it a try for you. Will report back later... have a very busy day ahead.

Good game dude, i'll rate it on my computer since we can yet on market. Like said previous, you have a lot of extra sceen, so bigger blocks would be great. It would also be nice to have "Validate" button up with the words, and maybe a "Clear all" for quickly deselecting all, but that doesn't really matter. Thanks for the free DL!

[Q] Favorite Surface RT Apps?

Just wondering from a utility ("widgets", battery meters, other things specific to Windows RT) standpoint, what are y'all installing?
Not a utility but I am loving the Netflix app they done a top job with it
Its hard to find anything decent. Its seriously amazing how absoulutely awful some of the selection is. One of the highes rated apps in Music is....
Krishna Aarti
Overview: "This is a beautiful app which gives the feeling of being close to Lord Krishna, a great music in teh background set the ambience for personally the Shringer for the Lord."
Seriously Microsoft SERIOUSLY!!!!!
With all their billions they couldn't have thrown a few dollars toward a few small programmers. They couldn't have gotten some of their own programmers off their butts and sent them over to look at apps like MX Player Pro or Poweramp for android and have their programmers come up with something comparable. They couldn't search for the top apps in each category on android and iOS and hire some small developers to come up with good alternatives.
Micro$$ couldn't get just a couple good apps in each category?
I swear its as if the only thing that mattered to them was the number of apps at launch - if its 10,000 fart apps at launch that's just fine.
OK rant over.
Its really slim pickings overall. I've got Netflix installed. Kindle. Evernote. Pin-a-Note. Multimedia 8. Sticky Notes 8. Gtasks HD and toolbox for Windows 8 installed that's it - mostly becaused I've felt obligated to install something.
Hope this all picks up. I've been checking the app market ever day sometimes a couple of times per day. It seems like they add maybe 3 or 4 apps a day overall - pretty bad so far.
Edit:
OK had to do this. My appologies in advance.
Search 'Fart" in Store : Results: Fart 101 - Girl Farts - Fart Soundboard Pro - Fart Soundboard - Funn Farts - Biological Piano -Burp soundboard pro
Search "MKV" in store: Results: 0
Search "Flac" in store: Results: 0
At least Microsoft knows our priorities....
All my storage pro is my favorite -paid version. Manages all your cloud storage acts and local in one place and can move stuff between them. Found it when looking for dropbox access.
I have a different take on the matter -I think app selection is going fine and more will come as win 8 gets going more. Here is a very interesting article on the matter:

Good article. Have you noticed that there are no desktop style apps? I'm wondering if the reason there is an app shortage is Microsoft.
The article points out how hard it can be to make productivity apps in Metro. But why haven't any existing desktop apps been re-compiled for RT? Where are the VLC media players for desktop?
Perhaps the lack of software is Microsofts own fault. I wonder if they even allow third party desktop apps? If one submits a desktop version of your video or music player for RT does it get denied?
If so, then Microsoft has just committed suicide. If they provide a desktop environment for RT but prevent all the existing desktop software from using it, then what is the point? It exists just for office? Microsoft themselves couldn't come up with a Metro version of office. So why would they limit developers to Metro only?
Suppose, for example, Intuit decides to re-compile their entire Quicken Suite of apps for RT. Do they then get denied because it doesn't have a metro interface?
So I ask again - why are there no desktop apps for RT?

i don't think you're allowed to deploy a desktop style app for ARM, it has to be a "metro" style app, so some new UI is necessary, no quick recompile and post to the store.
apps will come, it's just going to take a little time.
some of my favs are:
jetpack joyride
netflix
evernote
fliptoast
metrotwit
inrix
newegg
trackseries
smartglass
kindle
angry birds space
wordament
A few that haven't been mentioned:
OneNote, Woot Attack, Zentomi Reader, the metro Remote Desktop app, Blu Graphing Calculator (if you're a student especially, but it's my favorite calculator for any purpose at the moment, not just graphing), Trackage, 8Zip (which will be even better when they get RAR support), LastPass, Simply Authenticator, Youtube+, ComicsJolt, Fhotoroom.
Freda is the best epub reader so far, but isn't great yet.
IM+ is a necessity for me as well, but like on every other platform I've used IM+ on, it's not a great app.
I really do need an MKV app myself, but I'm hoping that come soon enough. There's one for Windows 8, just not on ARM yet.

Search for * and you'll see everything, often even before it shows up under the "New Releases" section. Don't get me wrong though, most of them are still garbage.
Sooo, I just tried Jetpack Joyride. I wonder how this performs on Android tabs, but on the Surface RT it's playable, but far from fluent, especially when you get faster. It's quite a nice game, but Microsoft really needs to optimize here, as I think the hardware in the Surface RT is certainly good enough to get good performace, WinRT just has its quirks (at least up to now).
Well, I got 12 days left to try out, hope things change till then.

WINAPPUPDATE.COM is the best place to learn about app counts and new apps. check out his twitter account.
News Bento and Tweetro are my two most used apps. Lazyworm is also bringing Metrotube to RT...and if Tweetro is any indication...its going to be beautiful. Tumbukum (Tumblr) and Cracked.com are really nice as well.

Most of the apps out right now have obviously been rushed out for early adopters and are far from optimized, that isn't going to change in 12 days. In a few months things will look better and I think in a year the store will have most of the useful apps that are popular on iTunes and the Android Market.
We really need a pdf writer / printer of some sort to make the surface a true business device. I searched "pdf" in the store but no hits. I also think the store is not really optimized for searching by keywords unless the search term is in the name of the app or somewhat obvious.

Right now the only thing you can do is convert pdf's in Office and work with it that way, hopefully a better solution will become available soon.

[GAME][2.2+] iTavli - Three backgammon like games 3.2

Hi everyone,
I am really excited to announce my application "iTavli - Three backgammon like games", which is a board game. If you are familiar with the backgammon game, you will love the other two games: blockgammon (or plakoto) and narde (or fevga).
The difference between these two games and the backgammon game, is that in the blockgammon game you block your opponent's single checker when you land on it, and in the narde game you can land your checkers in open or friendly occupied places.
This app runs on Android devices running OS 2.2 and higher, is free of charge and you can download it at Google Play
Version 3.0 was released yesterday, with the following new features:
- New UI for tablets
- Minor enhancements in the UI for smartphones
- A player can resign an online game
As with the iOS version, all games are free of charge, but with ads. Currently, you can not purchase the extra games (i.e., the Plakoto (or blockgammon) and the Fevga (or narde) game), but we plan to add this feature soon
Please, do not hesitate to contact me for any question that you may have
Thank you,
Vasilis
Very nice. Here is a link to the app at play store. iTavli
Hello everyone,
Version 3.1 is ready for download, with the following new features:
Use virtual coins to rent and play a game without ads.
Use virtual coins to bet during an online game
Several reported bugs/issues are fixed
I am looking forward to your suggestions
Thank you
Very nice
Version 3.2 is ready for download
The iTavli application is integrated with the Facebook, and you can now invite your online FB friends to play a game.
Your friends are sorted alphabetically, and you can invite those who have installed the Facebook on their iOS or Android device.
Finally, this version has some minor changes in the UI, which should make the application more responsive
Enjoy the game
Good engine.
Very nice, a lot nicer than others tavli/backgammon apps.
I would loved to see though:
-quicker roll dice and moves
-combined moves
that way a game would be much quicker as the real one!

Hi, thank you for your feedback.
With regards to the quicker roll dice and moves, did you check the option in the Settings screen?
What do you mean by "combined moves"?
We identified an issue with one of our ad network providers. We disabled that network, and the game should run again smoothly.
Furthermore we received some crash reports from various users, and we released version 3.2.1 which should fix this problem

By combined moves I mean when I have a roll dice, let's say 5 and 6, I would like to have in the options not only the move of a 5 or 6, but also the straight 11 so I don't have to click twice, first ie. click 5 and then click 6.
No biggie, just a suggestion!

xm, Depending on the dice and the selected checker, when you tap on a checker you will see 3 possible moves. Namely, if you roll a 5 and 6, and you tap on the checker which is at the beginning (this applies to all three games) of the board, you xan move that checker to three positions: 1) one which is 5 blocks away, 2) one which is 6 blocks away, and 3) one which 11 blocks away. Is this what you are describing?
Also, did you manage to change the speed of rolling the dice and moving the checkers in the Settings screen?
Ok, I didn't write that good enough last time. I mean, when you are playing "portes" and you have a checker out, when you have the options you can only do the first two, inside the first 6 block. In case you want to make a combined move (placed in and move) you have to click two times. Like I said before is not biggie but makes the game faster, that's all...
For your second question, I honestly can't find where settings are??

oh, yes, this is definitely a nice and useful feature. It is one of the things that I would like to add, but it needs a lot of testing, as you may remove a chip that you are not allowed to.
If you have a tablet, then you simply click on the "Settings" button
If you have a smartphone, then you scroll the screen to left. If you scroll it to right you will see the players who are currently online, and if you scroll even more to the right, you will see some online statistics.
Man, i'm sorry, I really didn't know that I should scroll... Now, I've got it! Cool speed, ok! But perhaps an indication to slide on screen could be helpful.
Great work, thanks!

Yes, I am . Thank you for your nice comment, and
I am looking forward to your feedback.
Enjoy the game
Version 3.3 will soon be ready for download, with the following changes:
- Changes in the UI
- Fixes the annoying "Please check your network" message..... you see this message only if you have disabled the network
Dear all,
I am pleased to inform you that version 3.4 is available for download. This version supports playing any game over bluetooth, but most importantly, it offers in-app purchase to purchase the games (Plakoto and Fevga) and play them without ads!!
Dear all,
I am pleased to inform you that version 3.4.1 is available for download.
This version has a new A.I. for the games Portes (Backgammon) and Plakoto (Blockgammon).
We are looking forward to your feedback

[App][4.0+] Complex Numbers Calculator

Hello XDADevs,
I have built an Android App that should work as a calculator for complex numbers. It can do simple tasks such as add two numbers but can also factorize a polynomial or solve one for its roots. I have created different layouts for Smartphones and Tablets and would like feedback from user here. Of course, anyone is welcome, but I'd especially like someone with a mathmatical background to try and make my calculations break. Results can be easily shared in text format.
The app can be downloaded via Google Play here and is available in english and german:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.vertedge.complexnumbers
@WeissenbornC I have a further maths exam in a few months which includes lots of this sort of stuff, and although I wasn't looking for an app like this, I saw the name had "numbers" in and was interested it looks like it would definitely be useful for checking if I've correctly found roots of polynomials like you say and things like that; I'll do some revision over the weekend and see if your app gets the right answers! (Hopefully I will too :silly: )

Thanks, I hope the app will help. The limitation is that results are found as decimal values, e.g. the square root of 2 will be 1.41... The exact result depends on the number format, which you can set yourself in the settings.

I hope I didn't disappoint too much: The matrix part leads to my other app on the playstore, which is free for real (meaning java double) numbers, but does cost money for complex numbers. The amount of money should be less than your average chocolate bar however.
Thanks all for the feedback, it's very much appreciated.
I wanted to thank you guys for bringing my app to the front page. I was surprised and it still gets me smiling to this day that the best resource I know out there on mobile development noticed my little dot on the screen of the app world.
I also changed the name of the app to "Complex Numbers Calculator", because, after all, to be seen takes more than making a great app today.
