Just a lil braggin thread
---
So I got:
X-Note 5.1 @ 320 dpi (all bloatware removed)
AC!D sound mod
Simplistic Framework + Simplistic Control for Note 3
XPosed Framework + Various modules (Xprivacy, Wanam, XBlast, ICSAppPicker, etc.)
AOSP Browser (modded to have Startpage and Startpage Mobile as search engines available)
SuperUser 1.65
Busybox 1.21.1 for armv71 (you wanna get the one from busybox.net for maximum commands - the one from stericson or so often miss some commands)
Appsi (as Sidebar Launcher for apps)
Switchr (as Task Switcher + Home button is set to switch between the last 2 apps with simplistic)
Will also get themer for homescreen. (as far as I understand it's just a "homescreen" launcher?) - used lightning drawer in the past. (allows maximum customization too, but not so easy theming I think)
----
All with my knox warranty still intact! (unfortunately I cannot make photos myself, only got the note, no other camera, and when I'm out I dont really thing about stuff like making a photo of my own phone lol)
(check my other threads if you want to know how this is possible)
---
What do you think is missing in my setup still? (apart from custom kernel, and recovery off course - but dont wanna trip that knox just yet)
aww I shouldve kept my mouth shut... after setting everything up and trying to use wifi for the first time i cant get no ip assigned from my router somehow ... sigh - too much customization.
I think its because of deinstallation of so much "bloatware" or a permissions thing. ARGH :silly:
You know you can take screenshots right?

He doesn't use TWRP. He has a thread about how he managed it.

He didn't. Mostly using adb to manually install the rom. It's how I install themes as well.

Did you use the x transformer app to change dpi? If so how did you set it to 320, the lowest I could set it to is 360.

i think he is talking about download mode, as that's where the knox binary counter is. And AFAIK you can't take screenshots in download mode, however I can be wrong as I have never tried it.

I got my DHCP fixed now, it was indeed a permissions problem. (some folders and files in /system/etc need special permissions which I overwrote in the process).
But one small problem remains so far: Cant connect with openvpn. It does not find the local adapter - any idea what could cause this?
When I try to connect it say udp local unbound, where actually should be a network interface right?
a guide with no proof....

right - I am taking all this time to provide false informations, maybe you got time to do this but I don't.
Why shouldnt it work? Its no damn rocket science to change some files in the system over adb, and knox does not care about the system partition! (at least as long as you dont try to odin flash a custom roms system img... this is not yet tested, but I believe as long as you leave out the kernel and recovery that you can flash custom system.img even through odin.. but I didnt wanna risk it yet..).
Its just a bit time consuming and you need to be careful not to overwrite certain files (some libs most notably - you will find out which in my other thread about how doin it). The permission fixing by hand is the most annoying part I can tell ya. (maybe this could be automated through a permission fixing script for all the important files etc..)

Go look at his thread man. Ppl tried it and found success. And just for the record he can't exactly post "proof". If he shows that he is running an custom rom and then shows that his knox is 0x0, he can obviously post a pic that was taken before flashing the rom or borrowed from someone else. So you just have to either take his word for it or try it yourself if you have been patient enough to not trip the knox binary counter.

If you still want to see how a non knox tripped download mode looks, google helps ya I'm sure! =)
With simplistic its also showing official in the telephone info (even with sysscope deinstalled) but in download mode it obviously says custom system. (which can be fixed to official if you flash the phone with kies, but this will also update the bootloaders - so only do it when you need to return the phone ever! Probably can just flash stock odin minus the bootloader files to get official status back too, but not sure)
What is acid sound mod??

No clue what it actually does, but just installed it for the heck of it. (noonoxide too hehe, dunno if they are compatible togehter).
Those were the soundmods that were included in the xnote zip installer.

Still need to figure out why local udp is [undef] if I want to connect through openvpn .. anyone have an idea what might cause this?
Already tried disabling afwall and also xposed (xprivacy) to see if thats the cause but its not.
I'm thinking its a permission thing again....
UPDATE:
Can someone please tell me whether they have a folder called /system/lib/modules or not? (might be missing kernel modules here, so I want to find out if i maybe deleted it or smth... or if i need to manually install tun.ko for openvpn to work)

Even though there is no proof but I totally believe it cos what he explains makes sense. I have use the same adb methods to replace frameworks and apps for theming purpose with success and not tripping knox. So why wouldn't it work. All he did is just go the extra step and replace almost all the files from a custom rom.

thanks,
how about /system/app/mcRegistry and /system/app/pak - does anyone have these still?
If so please upload - I need to figure out if they are required for anything important.
(they are not included in odin image unfortunately)
My installer script is 99% ready but needs some more testing and some small additions (like beeing able to choose whether you want to clean /system/app and /system/framework and if you want to clean dalvik-cache etc. - but its working fine already, reinstalled xnote again from clean odin rdlv mj6 just with my script!)
I will make it so it can install basically all cwm scripts (well no aroma support, some files will need to be installed manually, or rather copied into the right folder to be installed then)
Hi All,
I am looking for a Lollipop ROM that doesn't come pre rooted due to some of the Apps that I use and the PITA with the way they check for roots, so root hiders don't work for them. Anyone know if such a ROM exists. From what I can see they all look like they come pre rooted.
Edit: Oh yeah, and I am look for an AOSP rom.
Cheers

I guess most of the roms are prerooted because (most) people who flash custom roms are using apps that need/use root privileges (e.g. titanium backup or xposed framework + modules). So if the roms are prerooted there is no need to root it manually every time after flashing a new rom. Or in other words prerooted roms mean a reduction of steps/time needed to setup a new rom. And that's probably the reason you won't find any custom rom that isn't prerooted.
But as far as I know root privileges only exist as long as you have installed root apps like SuperSU or SuperUser. Therefore I would suggest you to try uninstalling whatever root app is used by your prefered rom. Since I never faced a problem like yours I can't garantee for anything and it's always recommendable to prepare a backup before you start "messing around".
Did you try to just disable it ?
First you enable the Developer options (Settings -> About phone -> click several times on Build number)
you go in Developer options and it's one of the first options, it's called Root access, by default, it's set to Apps only, you set it to Disabled and no apps will have root access.
Let me know if it's working that way.
This little mod can only be done on rooted phones at least, recovery recommended because you have to modify a System file: system/etc/floating_feature.xml
Just (carefully) add this line:
cachanilla86 said:
<SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_CALCULATOR_SUPPORT_CONVERTER>TRUE</SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_CALCULATOR_SUPPORT_CONVERTER>

It should work on any Note5 and S6 and S7 models running Nougat because the feature is already there, It is just disabled by default.
I'm attaching a flashable zip with MY OWN floating_feature.xml. DO NOT FLASH IT AS IT IS, it is just an example for you guys. Make a backup of your own file and edit that and use the zip to install it (just replace said file with your own inside the zip) or add the line using Root explorer. If the phone bootloops you will have to flash the zip via custom Recovery. If you have a custom ROM or a stock one this will work. No need to clear caches or app data. After rebooting you will see a ruler like icon on the calculator app.
Works on Kongloid rom v11. Thanks !
Many thanks, worked on My note 5 (920I-XSP) official nougat Rom , rooted of course..
I want to ask.. where I can find a full list of features and csc modifications ?
I just updated app from apkmirrior and i have same feature without rooting. People who are not rooted just update app.
Hey folks,
Firstly my question is not from noob point of view but right now I'm sensing there is no great reason to flash custom rom or root. Am i wrong?
I know that we can get ad blocking benefits. But except that can you guys tell your reasons for going beyond the comfort of living with op6 with:
stock os
Good enough & Needed options
Updates via otas and
a complete all feature working rom.
Use block this app to block ads, this is the first phone in 9 years I have had no reason to root. Just enjoy it ?
AdAway
Firewall to restrict curious/annoying apps
Full backup via TiBackup
Automization with Tasker on Screenlock
Backup of App Data to NAS
Access to Logcat
And it's easy to keep on OTA... Apply OTA, before rebooting reinstall Magisk, reboot
So why not?
AdBlock via VPN does not help me as I use VPN permanently already and only one VPN is supported.

The custom roms have added back a few things OP took out like always on display and better do not disturb settings.
Root and custom roms don't break OTA updates. I rooted on day 1 and I've successfully taken every OTA.
Custom kernels also add a few things that matter to some people, like Wireguard VPN integration.
For me i need root because of themes, diffrent emoji's, adblocker, doze for google play services, diffrent font and for a custom kernel so i get the most out of my device and get it to my liking.
Titanium backup.. Some good modules in Magisk,... Custom kernels.. Some reasons to root

If you root and use a custom rom then you can make a backup and I notice a MASSIVE speed increase, I've put xxNoLimitxx on my op6 and its just not compareble to stock...soooooo faast!!
Also I haven't come across any bugs at all yet!! Also you have Viper4Android and can increase the sound dramatically which helps big time. I find it in stock alittle soft.
Trust me you'll be so flabbergasted with the speed its crazy when the op6 is rooted. I had a op5 before this for a year and didn't notice such a increase in speed. Aps are sooo quick its nutz.
Anyways tootally up to you but if you do your homework you'll be fine, For me it went super quick rooting and chucking the custom rom on, was already done in 30min after all my shizzle was move over from my op5.
Anyways goodluck with deciding whatch gonna do.
oem android os must be root that you can turn on/off in developers settings !!
Root rights is extremely important feature on my phone and I do not even need a new phone that does not have it.
For now I have to use third party mod to be able to get right rights.
Shame on Google and Oneplus for it !!
I haven't needed to put a Custom ROM on my OP5 or again with my OP6 but I have to have root and recovery. EX Kernel is a must with Blocking Wakelocks, Titanium Backup for backups and freezing apps I don't want, Magisk Modules like YouTube Vanced, AOD, eventually Google Camera, Changing system sounds, adding more fonts, and for Nova Launcher Prime to be fully working needs root for things like double tap to sleep gestures and pull down notification from anywhere on screen.
I may not really need a custom ROM these days but I want the option, but I will never buy a phone I can't get ROOT and TWRP on.

Ha ha, amen brotha! Root is a way of life!
In my honest opinion if you need to ask users to give yourself reasons why you should root then you maybe shouldn't *I don't mean to sound sarcastic or a ***** but in this case anyway a few pointers to root would be modules with magisk for many things stock cant provide, titanium or root explorer etc for backups freezing apps and getting access to system files if need be, custom roms *as many have great mods added that stock cant do for example Reno rom has many features unique that stock and other roms can't provide*, kernels *can be tweaked to your liking and also modded for many other things to do that stock can't*, you can still get the official updates rooted so basically if they are allowing you to access it unlike many companies that don't why not take advantage?

Sysconfig patcher, youtube Vanced, xxx no limits rom (which is a module), google dialer, etc
Flash twrp, magisk, a custom kernel, xposed, xposed gravitybox, YouTube Vanced and Adaway and you'll have tons of mods on the stock ROM and you won't have to flash those stock based custom Roms that will make you want to pull your hair out.

I used magisk module.
First set your font to roboto in settings/font
Second you go to magisk manager, downloads and search for fonts. Low, all of theese might not work properly I don't know.. I use exo 2 font without any issues.. I have also tried 2 others without issues.
Use magisk
Use a file explorer like Root Explorer and navigate to "/system/fonts". Paste the fonts you want to use in the folder. You should get a prompt asking you if you want to overwrite the existing font. Accept and then reboot.
Just use ifont if you have root.
Thanks guys!
I tried ifont and it did not work with rooted 1+6 and H2os and Pie with Magisk
Use TypeFace
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pixkart.typeface
Then you get previews of the fonts and have whole bunch to choose from.

Would recommend to go ahead and use Magisk. It worked well with my OP5 and now OP6. Have tried using Hifont earlier. Though I uninstalled the app could not restore it back to the normal font until factory reset ( very painstaking).
uses APK fontster ( required root), works very well with many sources.
https://fontster.uptodown.com/android
I am rooted with the pixel 2 font mod installed through magisk, in the phone settings switch to Roboto font, install Ifont and choose a font. Reboot and install chosen font again, reboot
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kapp.ifont
Enjoy
