[Q] A question regarding to ATT 4G lte - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everybody
I have a question regarding to ATT LTE. I bought a xperia z3 from Amazon, a US unlock version. The model number is D6603. It support ATT 4G lte perfect.
Days ago, I wanted to root my phone, and found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/guide-rootrecovery-how-to-root-install-t3017056
but the software does not support my build number. So I download the firmware from the thread also, which is D6603_23.0.A.2.93.
After rooted my z3, I am unable to use ATT 4G LTE anymore. I dont even have this option lists in my setting. I found a number of differences under "about phone"
my old baseband version is 8974-AAAAANAZQ-00022-21, Kernel version is 3.4.0-perf-g1b1963a-02930-g23f7791, and build number is 23.0.1.A.5.77. The new baseband version is 8974-AAAAANAZQ-00005-05, Kernel version is 3.4.0-perf-g0961cdf, and build number is 23.0.A.0.93.
I dont really know the meaning of those numbers. But I really want to use my ATT 4G LTE again. Can some one tell me how to fix it? or please send me some thread to look at.

You can try with flashing just baseband from your old firmware. It might work.
But backup all your stuff before doing anything.
Also check your APN settings.

thank you

thank you man, I gotta you! thank you very much.
At the meanwhile, I have a quick question.
I used to have a LTE option or turn on button in my setting, but now is long gone. Do you need that special, specific button or option to turn on your 4G.
Sorry man, I am in Japan now, so I cant test it.........

You are so right bro. I am in Japan right now, so I could not possibly test the device. The reason why I feel that I cant use my LTE is because that option was long gone.

Yoo man, thank you so much, I dont know what I should say beside thank you. I am just very grateful!!
There are two options under antenna RX diversity,.
Under network mode, I have WCDMA and FDD_LTE. It was set on wcdma
Under RX Diversity Settings, I have three options, including both RX Antennas enabled (default), primary RX antenna enabled only, Secondary RX antenna enabled only. On top of that, nothing was checked.

Well then sorry mate. Your only last option to go back on your starting firmware.
And I don't use 4G because more often carrier lock the speed on same level as 3G. And it has less coverage.
Also often go from 2G (rural) to 3G in city and 4G in city center which consume hell from battery.
So I only use 2G/3G combination.. 4G for me is useless, all of this is just public beta testing (I study telematics and this is one area of study).. Truth is 4G is not ready for giving it's possibilities.. In next 5years maybe it will be ready.

Oh well, Please, dont say sorry bro. You did a lot more than I can possibly imagine. The honor is all mine!
I am currently in Japan right, so even it works, I wont know it anyway.
I found one thing particularly interesting. Under service settings, there is a option call network mode, and under it there is a option said lte_GSM_WCDMA.
I think and I believe that after I go back home and change it to lte_gsm_wcdma. It might work.
I thought about change back to my original FTF, but I will lost my root. So hard decision, right?
By the way, is there any possibility to keep my root while flash back to my old firmware version which is 23.0.1.A.5.77

Hmm... Strange. I downloaded one of the .93 distributions from here and had no issue with LTE.
Although I did almost immediately upgrade back to whatever the newer version was, choosing the "US Generic" variant in XperiFirm. So maybe I never noticed the lack of LTE.

yoo man

I downloaded the "Generic Global" .93 version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/ftf-stock-firmwares-xperia-z3-models-t2886061 - I used that to root, but I think almost immediately used XperiFirm to go back up to whatever the latest 4.4.4 build for "US Generic" or whatever the non-branded US option was as of a few months ago (I think it was released in December?)
I never flashed a 5.0 stock firmware on my device, I've been running Omni for months. I have the LTE options in Settings and my device signal status says "LTE".

sorry man, question again

Sorry, man , I am a bit confuse. Well, I bought my phone on amazon(amazon itself is the seller, so which means that my phone is authentic US version, not some crazy thing from HK). the original build number is 23.0.1.A.5.77. The root software from xda does not support this version, and that is primary reason why I flash to 23.0.A.2.93.
But my question is how did you root your z3 with your US generic, which I remember the software did not support the build number.
sorry man, lots of question,

I flashed the Generic Global .93 build from here in order to root/backup TA/unlock.
Then, at the time I was doing unlocking/rooting, .77 was the "newest" build and there was a "US Generic" or something like that (I don't remember exactly) in XperiFirm. It's probably now a Lollipop build. XperiFirm does not appear to be able to grab old builds, but the newest US D6603 build should work. Either way, I used a .77 build that was labeled as being for the USA in XperiFirm.

[Q] LTE problems?

Been on the iPhone for close to a year. I'm tagging out! Coming back to android and the ultra or maxx has been the device I've set as my decision. However I'm a tmobile user. Maxx has the battery life I need so I want to clarify before I pick one up what any glitches of the device may be on the network. I've been reading with the kitkat update there is some sort of issue with the enabled lte and not being able to utilize SMS/phone at the same time as lte data? Is this true? If so any possible way to remain on H+ without activating lte or inputting apn settings? Or has this been rectified? Lol.....rectified.
Any input anyone has is appreciated. And yes I know. I should get verizon. I've been with tmobile for 12 years. I just can't beat their price right now and I live in an lte city. When I go out in the county it's a different story. But one day I'll jump ship. Maybe intervention is required. But right now I wanna stay with the T.

"LTE Thunderbolt" on the play store will be your best friend while on T-mobile
Works wonders with moto devices, you can choose which exact signal the phone should look for (LTE included)
Great phone period. On vodafone with it right now, used that app to ONLY look for HSPA+ and everything is golden Lemme know if you have any other questions, but that app should fix ya up
Awesome thanks bud. I was a but concerned about that whole hiccup and was making me second guess getting it, but the phone seems to be the best choice for me out of any available android phone. Hopefully this will get worked out. Do you find it a little inconvenient to switch signals or do you just stick with the hspa signal permanently?

With the KitKat update. It's pretty annoying that I can't make phone call and send text message when it is on LTE. Gotta switch back to 2g , edge before sending text , make call. There is no option to disable LTE to stay on H+ .

That's disappointing. Unfortunately I just spent 400 dollars on one. Welp I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed. Glad I didn't trade my iphone off yet in case. Well I hope this can be tweaked. =\
You can switch the phone into gsm only using phone info. If lte is disabled you'll be fine on KK until they fix it. LTE/GSM works fine on 4.2. I'll link a copy of phone info to make the change. Please don't modify other settings as you can potentially permanently damage the radio. You'll get HSPA+ in refarmed areas. EDGE everywhere else.

Thanks for this! Are the odds pretty good that this will be taken care of in a future update? I feel like I don't expect it since it's not a verizon critical issue. Would this be taken care of in a future KK update or firmware? Thanks for your help so far everyone
I had talked to a contact of mine at Motorola and they were unaware of the issue til I brought it to him. It's on the list of things to fix.

You're doin it wrong GSM only disables the LTE radio.
If I'm understanding arcanexvi's post correctly it instructs to switch to "gsm only" and not "gsm auto", though it's circled in the illustration. Hard for me to speculate though until I have the phone in hand.
Lol you beat me to it. I can see the confusion though since gsm auto is circled in the photo. It's like sitting in the drivers seat getting directions from the passenger and they say left and point to the right lol. I'll let ya know how it goes when I get the phone. Thanks bud.

Nexus 5 won't get 3G or 4G network

Hi.
My nexus 5 is driving me crazy.
All of a sudden it stopped getting 3G or 4G LTEnetwork. It just stayed in 2G (EDGE).
I called the carrier support, they don't know what to do.
This sim works fine in other phones.
Other sims also do not get 3g or 4g network on this phone.
I switched my sim, enbled 4G service and nada.
It seems the phone can't see the 3g or 4g networks.
If i go to the *#*#4636#*#* menu and force the network type to LTE and then search for mobile networks it doesn't find any.
Same for WDCMA only.
If i set it to LTE preferred, WCDMA preferred or LTE/GSM auto (PRL) it finds the network and it connects in 2G EDGE.
I've done a full reset, flashed stock, tried several radios, nothing.
Im in Portugal and my carrier is Optimus.
If i go to the "Select radio band" option in that menu it only shows "USA BAND".
Is it suposed to be like that?
Also, when i reboot my phone in the notification area i get a notification saying: "Restricted access changed". I never got that before when the 3g connection was working.

Change it back to "GSM/LTE". Then go to the APN settings and make sure that they're correct. That's the most common fix. I don't know what your carrier is, so I can't tell you the settings, but you can probably find them somewhere.
Worst case, flash the factory image and see if it still happens.

[Q] Tried to Setup Spark - Now No LTE At All

Got my new Play Store N5 this week and got it all setup rooted and ROM'd, but I realized yesterday that I wasn't setup correctly to use Sprint's tri-band LTE Spark. It had been connecting to LTE fine on one band, but I wanted to see if the extra two would help increase speeds and maybe some coverage, so I followed a guide I found on here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/sprint-tri-band-activation-help-t2515798
Now my phone won't connect to LTE at all. I've called Sprint and even stopped in at one of their repairs stores, but I can't stand being asked to restart my phone or hit update profile again after about 20 times already. One of the techs even said I need to get a new phone!
Can anyone help with this? Would reflashing the stock image help at all? Was the tech right, do I really need a new phone?

Aren`t they overwtitten by flashing the stock rom?
They may be by flashing stock images, but not by just resetting or flashing another ROM.
Edit: I'm betting that all he needs to do is revert the settings. If you need the settings I'll post them

I've tried reverting them to no avail, plus they seem to change whenever I update my profile/PRL. But if you could post what you have them set to (especially if you are using Spark) that would be fantastic.

How does Sprint roll out updates for the N5? Is it just through profile updates? Buying from the Play Store, I will never receive an OTA from Sprint, right?

To be honest I'm not sure of the "how" of it. I just read an article, a little while back, saying they were going to do an update to activate spark on their devices.
Edit: And you shouldn't have an issue receiving it since you're connected to Sprint service.

Sprint submits the changes they want to Google and Google incorporates it into their Android updates. LG and Sprint had long ago fixed whatever their issue was with the Spark update rolled out for the LG G2 in late jan/early feb so it's mainly up to Google now to push the update.
As the Nexus 5 is not native to Sprint and is basically the phone for the entire North American region, Google will not push an update just for one specific carrier. Thus we Nexus 5 users on Sprint have waited over 5 months for the next Google Android update which will enable B26/ B41 (aka Spark).
p.s. Availability of band 25 PCS 1900 LTE tends to screw with non Spark updated phones.
I followed the steps in the post linked in the first reply (used Method 2, Method 1 kept failing fastboot halfway through) and reset my phone back to stock. But it still doesn't want to connect to Sprint's LTE. I even played around with the LTE radio settings again in the hope of enabling Spark and nada.
Would it have been possible to corrupt the phone software totally while doing this to begin with? Do I need to send it back? (and on that note, you have no idea how frustrating it is to explain to a Sprint rep on the phone that you bought the phone from Google online. Such a foreign concept to them!) Could the SIM card have gotten corrupted and I just need a new one of those?

Update: So after downloading the necessary files to my laptop at work, I followed the procedures to reflash to stock again this morning. It came up as failed activation at first, but after hitting update profile and rebooting the phone, I'm back on LTE again. And after checking Android Central this morning, it seems like I should just wait for Google to fix my Spark issues...

So tempted to roll back into the Sprint store that told me I needed a new phone and shove my LTE-enabled phone in their faces.

LTE not working

Hi,
I've the verizon m8 outside the Us. In my country the LTE network has started to work during the past week and its 1800 mhz/ channel 3.
My htc is s-off, root ofcourse, viper rom but I cant get any reception with LTE!
accordint to htc sites, the verison m8 is truely support 1800 mhz,
So how can I get lte on my phone?
And please don't blow my mind with "why did you bought verizon model if you're not using verizon", It doesn't matter now. I've already bought my m8 and it's from verizon, it was cheaper to buy.
Nobody knows?
Europe freinds?
I'm almost in the same boat as you, I'm using Verizon m8, rooted, soff, supercid and then I installed android revolution hd 8.1 international version. I got lte band 4 working ok as well as calls, sms, mms, e.t.c.
Sent from my C811 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I've also tried to flash the WWE radio on my verizon m8 but after 1-2 minte the device got reboot again and again, so flashing radio didn't help.
Nobody has a solution? Verizon said the the m8 support 1800 mhz - band 3, so there must be a way to enable it.

Hey,
Just got back from Europe. I wasn't able to get LTE over there, only hsupa/hsdpa. I installed nv rom and was able to change the bands, and got my data working. Now that I'm back in the U.S. (as of 12 horus ago), I'm unable to get service, go figure. I was using the newest verizon radios and they worked fine.

It only appears on HTC site. So it seems the phone doesn't support this

Shalom Thanks for your help, this is also what I think, but i really want to believe that the offical HTC site post this information about band 3 for a reason and that is not just a mistake, ofr now it seems like it's a verison setting as of my opinion.

Yes, I've also done that. the phone got no signal and reboot itself after 2 minutes. flashing radios doesn't work with cdma phones. I've also tryed install gpe rom (i fought that maybe the sense 6.0 has problem) also didn't work

No Data with Custom Rom

Hello. So I purchased the Photon Q and have it activated, yes, all the basics. Anyway, when I flash a cyanogenmod rom, I lose my data. Is this an issue with other photon q users? or just me? Data works perfect under the stock 4.1.2 rom, but not under cm. I'm running TWRP recovery, and yes, I'm rooted.
I assume you're on Sprint? Have you checked the APN list? (Although I didn't need to do anything to get the latest to work with data, it "just worked").
Are you using the latest version of CM as well, the 'jbbl' editions?
On cm data problems always happen. It's not that stable for CDMA users = =

Hm, been solid here. I've tested it in all sorts of conditions too - I was out to sea (but somewhat close to land) and getting a lot of roaming connections... I was even able to squeeze data out of those connections.
LTE works when I'm in cities, although I do get dropped to 3g quite a bit - I'm not sure if that's an issue with Sprint's LTE penetrating buildings or what. But I can't say that having a custom ROM has affected my data negatively - now you are on a m7, which I know those devices have moved between unified and not unified... Our unified devices, at least on my Photon Q's, has been great - no issues that I could attribute directly to software, other than maybe some weak wifi reception (like in airports) which could again be the device itself.

Won't even check the APN list? I can't really help you then.
Sorry, I clean flashed the last time that I installed it. I don't have any logs, because I haven't thought to take any. I haven't checked the APN list because Since the phone is CDMA, I didn't know where to look. I will flash again and give it all another try.

Tis weird either way, I've never had to set anything up. Data always 'just worked'. If it works in stock, should work in the custom ROM's... at least it always has for me on Sprint!

By "unactivate", i mean literally replace it with another phone, then re-activate it. The phone connects on Sprint's towers, however i use Kroger's i-wireless. So reactivation and phone swticthing is fairly easy.
At the moment, i am running cm11 nightly, and it appears to be working alright with data for now.

Look at your network mode. There's no "LTE", so of course you'll never see 4g as the Q is not capable of WiMax - LTE is the only "4g" network you'd see.

Okay, So I've tried LTE/CDMA (auto) after discovering that it DOESN'T USE GSM, but any option that has LTE in it doesn't seem to work. And How do I install the new msm_8960 cm11 roms? are those the ones marked jbbl?I've downloaded and will install the jbbl edition, maybe it'll fix some of the issues i've been having. Wait, what? Why are you using ancient builds...
You need to use the jbbl edition. The xt897/c builds are ancient and should not be used - it was when we needed separate builds for CDMA and GSM.
If you're on Sprint, you are correct - there's no GSM. The chip in the phone is only used for international roaming, if you have it enabled.

You can try a third party app like chomp SMS, but if you're hacking up APN's/apns-conf it's not surprising that you broke MMS.
