[q] urgent help needed ! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have rooted my Nexus 5 on lollipop 5.0 and installed Cyanogen Mod 12.1 using CWM. However, I desperately need some files which were present before I performed my hard Factory Reset. I know I should have made a backup, but i really thought I had made a backup of the audio files before the hard factory reset. Is there any way I can recover them ? Kinda desperate here. Please let me know.

[Q] Can't decrypt device after encrypting it

Hello guys
A friend of mine encrypted his device accidentaly and now he wants it decrypted. I know that the only way to do so is to factory reset the device but it does not help. We tried factory reset through CWM (running Android Revolution HD) but it still demands password when booted up (as on the picture I attached).
Any suggestions what can I do? I really need them.
Have you tried flashing another ROM?
Or you can just reflash ARHD...

[Q] Factory reset or equivalent on 4.4 and retain root?

I have a droid maxx running stock rooted 4.4, and need to factory reset it or something similar, to totally reset everything. Does anyone know of a way to do this while keeping root? Thanks!
I've factory reset my rooted 4.4 Mini using Settings->Backup & reset. Reinstalled SuperSu after, still rooted.

Thank you so so much!!! You just saved me countless hours of extreme frustration and possibly even buying a new phone..
Hope it fixes your issue. Not as good as reflashing the system, but that will definitely make you lose root.

Sorry to say if it is an issue with the system factory reset does nothing except delete user data like apps etc. If its a system app it may fix the problem other than that it wont do jack to fix the problem. Thats why root persists only reason to FDR is if an app is acting up and you can't fix it. That is why we need the fxz to fix a system issue.

That sucks cause last night night xposed framework threw me in loop. I had to fxz 4.4.2 from my rooted, write protect off state. Now I lost root. Any way to get it back? If not damn, I'm in pain from a mistake.

Factory reset wipes all his files, apps, and data. You will have to reinstall all of them. Any photos he had on the phone are gone There is no way to recover them

If he had back up set, Google will restore some stuff when starting phone up and entering Google account.
Apps at least.
Good luck.

[Q] Do I Have To Factory Reset Before Updating My Rom

Hi Guys, new to the forums with my first time post. Got a Q here which has likely been asked and answered before, but there is way too many pages for me to search
Anyway, question;
I'm currently using Omega ROM 4.2.2 on my Galaxy s4 and want to update it to the latest version. Can I simply download the new version and install it over the old one or do I have to factory reset first or take any other steps?
Thanks in advanced.
Hello @nability you do not need to factory reset your device to install the ROM. In your case you're just updating the rom. But if you're moving to a different ROM you'll need to factory reset it. But again since you're just updating to a newer version of your ROM, you can simply download and install over it. Just wipe the "cache".

Brilliant, I was hoping you would say that
Thanks for the quick reply.
Sorry guys got another question that I just need to be sure of.
When I update the ROM, is that the only update I will need to do in order to get support for 4G LTE?

Need help urgently

Hello xda forums.
Today I decided I would flash the ROM for euphoria lollipop after a long time of being on kit kat. I backed up, system restored, and flashed the new rom and was able to boot into the OS without any issues, other than the fact that all my contacts were gone!
In an attempt to save my contacts I went back into recovery and tried to restore my backup. After doing this, when booting I would still boot into Lollipop, but the bottom bar would disappear and I wasn't able to navigate anything. After factory restoring once more to restore the backup, the backup had disappeared. Now on my phone the only thing I'm able to do is get into recovery. Is there any way for me to get the ROM onto the phone again so I can install it? The nexus 5 doesn't show up under devices and drives in 'This PC'.
Thanks in advance for your help. I really need to get my phone back up and running, even if it means having no contacts
It sounds like you wiped your entire device including the os and your backup. You're going to have to flash the factory image to get it running again. If your contacts were backed up to Google you should get term back after you install the factory image.

Your reply is very much appreciated.
How do I go about flashing the factory image?
Edit: Okay! Got everything done and Euphoria installed properly. I feel like I learned a bunch too! Thank you for your assistance!
