*ROOT REQUIRED*
AdjBrightness adjusts screen brightness for *rooted* android device. It can set the brightness from 2 ~ 255 and lock it so that most of other applications cannot change it. Alternatively, if you don't want to lock the brightness, "auto restore" option can restore it after screen turned on.
It also can turn off the background light of buttons.
Saves the battery and eyes!
Anyway, IF YOU ENCOUNTER ANY PROBLEM, REBOOT!
It can be downloaded from market or just download the attachment.

This would be really nice if you could add an auto feature that has more too it than the stock one to save more battery. Like winmo Lumos
Works very well with my Evo 4g running Damage3.2.3 neterty kernal 7.1a rooted
Maybe also a widget with custom or pre-defined settings for easy access?
I really wish you could make this like lumos MANY MANY users have asked for this already for the evo
What Lumos is? Where can I found it?
Most excellent ! finally i can stop those stupid backlighted buttons when i use my phone in the dark
But i found the brightness range is the same as what i have normally from the phone manual settings (Desire), i hoped it could go lower.
don't work on Galaxy S.
a question: can i make it darker then 0% (in the settings>) ?
sry for my english

You are right. Galaxy's are not supported. It works perfectly on Hero.
This app is great. It turns the backlight completely off on the myTouch 3G which is just what I wanted. It would be great if you could add the ability to make shortcuts on the desktop to a particular setting.
So I could hit a shortcut/widget on the desktop to change the brightness to 10 (backlight off) and then one to turn it back to 20 (backlight on).
Thanks for the app!
I found out about AdjBrightness yesterday in a thread where it was discussed it's possible to lower the brightness more than the standard brightness settings in HTC Sendse. I'm running a rooted HTC Desire with Android 2.2 (Modaco) but I can't see that the brightness get any lower with AdjBrightness than with default settings in Sense. I have given AdjBrightness root access as well. Have I missunderstood what the application actually does, can't the brightness not go below the lowest value you can set in the settings in HTC Sense? Cheers!

You can disable "Automatic brightness" in system settings and try again. I use HTC Sense too and it works.
updated to v1.2.7.3, support to turn off amber light. fixed fc issue sometimes after turn on screen.
Awesome. I've always wanted to go lower brightness than what Android's minimum was. This will be great for reading at night.
good app!!! thanks!!!
Hi. New member to the forum.
I have a rooted Backflip (US AT&T) and previously installed adjBrightness. It worked fine the last time I used it before today. However, for whatever reason, today it throws force close errors.
As I recall, the only thing I did to my phone was delete some AT&T crapware (the radio and music apps).
Any ideas?
Thanks, mojohn

Hi, could you tell me when the force close occurred? When starting the AdjBrightness application, or after clicked a button, or after turn on the screen?
Nice app. Just need some sort of homescreen widget & a new icon, it's hideous.
Fixed some bugs for 1.6 android system. If somebody cannot turn on screen, please keep the "Auto restore" ticked in settings.

I once made a version to support galaxy s, it can adjust the brightness, but people reported they could not turn on the screen afterwards.
Sorry, I am afraid it won't be fixed until I can access a galaxy s device.
On my new G2x I cannot adjust the screen brightness, the option is greyed out and does not work in settings. I've tried rebooting twice. The only way I was able to lower the brightness was to use the widget and select the different levels (or auto, and auto didn't seem to work)
also screen timeout delay, is a setting I wish to have to choice to choose, it is also greyed out on my stock G2x. I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this or if they are able to adjust theirs?
Thanks
Apparently if you skip thee setup this happens. Or so I read in another thread.

Yes I can on mine. You probably have a defective device. I would take it back.
So from what I've found from this and other reports on this forum is that LG REALLY didn't want you to skip the initial setup. I assume these are glitches, but man, that's a pretty big oversight.
lol, wth.. time to do it right this time with simcard and and full setup i guess.
have this issue as well. tried with a fresh setup with no success.... sigh.

REFORMAT!!!!!!!!
it whips data/factory reset
it will bring you back to full set up when it reboots
if you dont know how please pm me i cant find link but i just did it and confirmed it works!
Try changing it through the T-Mobile My Device app under "Quick Tools."
no dice. ten characters
Same issue here, device wipe and full setup did not help.
They really need to get a firmware update out for this and the Cell/Wifi drain issues.
I can do it on mine.
I just had to disable auto brightness.

I just fixed this problem. Just follow the initial steps when you boot up from fresh. The most important step is to insert a sim card and that will enable the brightness and screen timeout option.

Like from when the phone is factory reset?
I have an LG 2X (basically a G2X) and skipped the start up part because I didn't have my sim activated (thus no internet or anything on it). My plan was, root the phone - which I've done, unlock it - waiting on the code, and then activate the sim and go back and do the set up stuff once my phone was at set up.
However now I see the brightness is having the problem described in the first post so I'm wondering if I should: factory reset (can I do this after it's rooted? should I unroot first?), should I unlock the phone or will the factory reset lose the fact that it's been unlocked? If I unlock should I factory reset after or can I just install a rom, will a rom fix this issue?
solved
you should insert your simcard, I had that problem before and after I insert simcard, it fixed
let's try
Hey all, I'm trying to figure out how to get some brightness settings for the touch key brightness to stick. I've used LG 2x Notifications and O2x Touch Key Brightness, and they both work up until the point where i put the phone to sleep by tapping the power button. As soon as I wake it up, the brightness goes straight to zero unless i head back to the app and raise it up again. And if i uninstall the apps, the brightness on my keys stay off until i re-flash or reinstall the app again. Help!
My issue is a little different but similar. It worked fine for me on every basic gingerbread rom, but when I switched to a cm7 based rom the lights change with the brightness of the screen. I turned off all the light notifications but it did not help.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

On SinghUI but it doesn't have built-in LED notifications, if that's what you're getting at.
If the setting from one of those apps doesn't stick, then it's most likely being set by your ROM or Kernel. Have you tried checking if you get the same issue with other ROMs?
@jcbofkc That's a built-in setting that can't really be changed unless you get a custom ROM or Kernel cooked up to remove the link between the brightnesses.

90% sure the ROM doesn't have built in notifications. I'm noticing now that very rarely the settings do stick. Perhaps there is a way to force the app to stay in memory?

That wouldn't work. All that those apps do is write a number from 0-20 to the text file:
/sys/devices/platform/star_touch_led/wled
in your root file system.
When you read the file, it shows you the current output to the LEDs (from 0uA to 2000uA).
When you write to the file, it interacts with the Kernel and sets the brightness.
The Touch Key Lights type apps, all they do is when you move the slider they write a value to that file, and that's it. The only reason it wouldn't stick is if your ROM or Kernel is changing the value in the background. For example it will set it to 0 when you turn the screen off, and then it should set it back to wherever it was before when you turn the screen on again.
The closest you could get is to take the source for LG Touch LED Notifications and modify it to set the brightness every few seconds or something, but that probably wouldn't be too good for your battery life.
Based on your symptoms it appears that either your ROM or your phone doesn't really handle the modifying of the brightness very well. It looks like SinghUI does use a kernel from CM7, so I don't think your kernel is the problem. I'd suggest flashing the most recent CM7.2 RC, and seeing if you have the same problem there. CyanogenMod will change your LED brightness based on your screen brightness though.
EDIT: Ignore all that for a moment, try this first. It is a post from January 21st in the SinghUI thread, so it might not work now, but go ahead and try it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21652744&postcount=293
Also I'd suggest posting in the SinghUI thread as everyone there is using your ROM, so they might be able to help better.

Thanks for the link. It turns out that the ROM does have led notifications. However, disabling them didn't help the problem. :/ the g2x has just been an awful experience for me! :/
This is an application I made for my phone to keep the button leds on when we receive a phonecall or SMS only.
Needs root access.
May harm your phone, I do not take any responsibility. Use it at your own risk.

notification - prevent auto close. (no option to turn notification off yet, but i tried to keep it unoticable)
The only way to close is by android task manager which calls ondestroy command. (exit button to add)
V0.2
Settings:
- Screen timeout adjustable - propably help with other devices (set how much time takes the phone to close the screen when the event wakes the screen.)
- path to brightness editable
- notification to prevent android task manager on / off
V0.3
two mini bug fixed
1. (maybe) app does not respond on message receive when service is off.
2. now it does not lock led brightness (may caused issues with other apps)
How it works:
Activate / DeActivate Service from app.
It only works if
echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness;
(or any path for your device's brightness works)

try in terminal emulator
su
echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness
(or any path for your device's brightness)
it should light the leds.
and then turn off the screen without pressing back or menu, (they light the leds)
if the leds keep lighted while the screen is off, then propably it will work. if not then the kernel restrictions apply to your rom.

This is why I keep the screen on for 11 seconds. this way when the event comes:
1. android lights the screen and the lights for 10 seconds (by default of android)
2. android ask them both to turn off (after 10 seconds) -
But the screen is still on as I asked. :good:
So a second later (11 seconds) I turn on the lights and release the screen. (turns off unless you unlocked it)
try not to interact with your phone if you want to test it since you receive the sms or the missed call, cause then the lights wont start. (since you already saw the event)
it worked for me but .. 1st the led they are not bright ... you can't see them clearly .... and they just stay tuned ..if you can make them blink good luck ....
I think you should check https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=neldar.bln.control.free&hl=de.
The soft key driver in our kernel sources is drivers/input/touchscreen/coreriver_touchkey/
The app is incompatibel with our device, but maybe something similar would be possible
BLN control this application needs feature enabled in the kernel ... you need to path the corect driver to support it i tried it ... ... this project it is better it uses libs ... i think there is app it uses lib like this ... but it work just when the screen is on .. it kills when is off .. but this app it work ... the problem it is not bright .. and it needs blink ..

here is an example, how the support for the app is added, but our device uses a complete different touchkey diver
https://github.com/dmore70/kernel-GB-I9000/commit/d69303cae38bf1f6efe36aceab492d9bb8bc0ac3
BTW I found a way to increase the brightness of the keys, while the device is locked and blinking leds would kill our battery
I will try add a handler to execute
echo 255 > /sys/class/leds/button backlight/max_brightness
after the screen is off. probably since the brightness is 1,
it will allow me to play with brightness level. and simulate blinks. I will try if it works later.

unlock problem
Hello, I do not know very well English, so I use a translator (sorry for the machine text).
I installed your rom on your phone. When installing the first did full wipe, then tried to format all partitions on the phone (after recovery).
I have the following problem: the phone does not always want to wake up at the touch of a button power.
Here are my observations:
1. If the phone is not used for a long time (more than five minutes), the first pressing of no reaction (the screen is turned off, the backlight is too soft keys do not light up), if you wait a few seconds (3-5) and press the power once again light up the soft keys then after 1-2 seconds the screen.
2. If in the settings to set Wake on volume key (Settings - Carbon fibers - Buttons - Volume button wake), after clicking on the awakening takes place in 100% of cases quickly and correctly (but I was not very happy, because I often favorite player and I do not want to change the volume for each turns on the screen).
3. If you press too much power to the phone may reboot.
4. If a player is running (ie, the phone is not in deep sleep), then unlock more often obtained from the first time (but sometimes not).
5. If you increase the minimum frequency (Settings - Performance - Minimum speed) to 384 or 432 Mhz waking works best (for a long time this setting is not used, because I have no desire to spend the battery for nothing, but in the latter could be wrong, the voltage table cpu versus frequency could not find).
6. If the phone is standing on the charge, then there is always unlock properly.
Tried to look at logcat during the "unfortunate spill," saw nothing suspicious.

In the 1031 build Chrome starts in floating mode every time. Is there a way to disable this? All other apps behave as they should.

Hmm that's weird. Must have started after a chrome update then. Is there a way to disable the floating mode altogether in the system?
