[Q] [REQ] Random Freezes and System Lockups - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

IDK Which is causing this and am trying to figure out how I can find the culprit, but my Edge has suddenly begun locking up and completely freezing where if left alone like that it hot reboots, it had to of been a recent app I installed in the past 12 hours cause wasn't it doing it last night.
How can I figure this out to see what the last processed app was before the lock up and battery pull.
Seriously I've pulled my battery at least 6 times today and it's driving me insane. Went and uninstalled a few recently installed app's but still am suffering.
Bout ready to break something if something doesn't change. LoL! I can't even be up from a fresh reboot for a couple minutes without it locking up.
Wished I knew about this awful lag beforehand, would've waited for the Note Edge 2. I don't get how a Note 3 can out perform a Note 4 Edge.

Not really an edge problem. Specific to your piece.
If you've already uninstalled the recently installed apps, then next step would be clearing cache from recovery.
If that doesn't work, then looks like it will have to be a factory reset. Do backup first.
If rooted with a custom recovery, wipe cache and dalvik and see.

Click to collapse
I may just do a cache cleaning then a dirty flash, see if that gets rid of the problem or if it still presists to remain present.
Oddly enough if started acting up when I uninstalled SetCPU, now I'm looking for a more up-to-date CPU Tweaker/Tuner.
May also delete the Android folder on my external sd card, since I've been cleaning up and cutting back on a lot of app's, uninstalling a few everyday, installed a bunch from a backup, then been weeding them out.

Recovery > Wiping Dalvik Cache, System and Cache then dirty flashing the rom all over again seemed to work and allow me to keep all my app's and stuff.

It turns out I think it was the Xposed Module Power Nap. Uninstalled it and no more lockups.

Continuous random reboots on CyanogenMOD 4.2.12.2

I'm getting mad trying to debug these random reboots. I'm getting a lot of them while the device is sleeping, without any advice. Sometimes it even halts and gets to a black screen, and I've to remove the battery to restart it, because just pushing the power button won't do anything.
Here's the last_kmsg:

May anybody please help me addressing them? I've already tried all the standard things, like wipe dalvik cache, fix_permissions, wipe and reinstall and so on. Of course I'm ready to provide any additional info, if needed.
Thanks and keep up the great work!
BUG: scheduling while atomic: suspend/7/0xc00b67f9
I think this is the main problem with this crash. Any clue?
try
I suggest trying to remove widgets before then reboot and wipe dalvik cache.. I was having similar problems when I did this it worked fine.. Dont really expect anyone to help you here, they get pissed when people ask simple questions.
Okay, I'm gonna try this. Thank you very much!
im using that rom at the moment, have been using cyan for ages but i can no longer use it, its so damn laggy get blank screens between different apps ,reboots its so unusable
Today I tried a full format and reinstall. Started from scratch, and installed on top of the default 1.5 rom, and it seems to work much better. I still have some rare RR issues during normal app usage, but at least it does not reboots itself randomly without being used.
Trying to clear dalvik cache didn't help, the phone still was unusable, so I decided to format the SD without ext partition.
I'll try it out for some days, if I still will see many reboots I think I'll try out the RA rom, I've read it's much more stable.
Just why exactly didn't you flash 1.6 android first like it's advised?

Sprint Hero Time for data wipe?

I have had a problem occur a couple of times today that has never happened before. I have an extended battery installed(3500mAh). After 2 hours of not using the phone this morning after I pulled it from the charger I noticed the battery was down to 86% when it should have been still at 95% or higher. About an hour after that I went to make a call and the phone would not unlock. In fact it would not respond to any gesture or button push. I had to pull the battery to get it to boot up again. That freezing up has happened twice today. Once with the extended battery and once with the stock battery. Should I wipe the data and start all over again? Or is there another solution?
Have you installed any new programs recently?
No nothing for a couple of weeks now.
Still having a lot of freezes. Should I go to the security settings and tell it to do a factory reset and then start over again with rooting and customizing?
just out of curiosity did you reinstall the location services?
No. The only things I added back in after the last flash were the ringtone trimmer, sound recorder, and the sprint tv.
one thing that I noticed when I had my phone hooked up to ddms looking at the debug log I had a RSS reader app that was add supported and every 30 seconds it would search for and dowload a new add. once I got rid of that app it seemed to help.
another thing that really helped was I downloaded an app called "overclock" it let me set my CPU to 528 when the screen was active really helping with the speed and how fluid the scroll in menu's is, but it also lets you set it to like 128 when the screen is off. seems to really help with battery life as well.
What is throwing me for a loop is that the phone sleeps like it is supposed and I have verified this with spare parts show I am not sure why all of a sudden the battery is draining much faster than before. As far as the lockups, they are just temporary freezes, it locks and I have to remove the battery to get it to reboot.
Well I wiped the data then flashed to the newest sprint rom(1.56) and then rooted again. I then wiped data again and then flashed to fresh 1.1 and installed my apps and setup my home screens. So far no problems and it seems to run a lot faster and smoother.
Quick off-topic question:
When you say "wipe your data" does that mean you rm the /data directory? Or what? Just curious
No. I used Wipe in the recovery screen.
i just did a upgrade on my hero too from fresh 1.0 to 1.1
when you select wipe data from recovery mode, besides wiping data with option 1, do you choose option 2 as well ? wipe dev something. i wasnt sure what the 2nd wipe option is for, so i did the first option only and it only took 2 sec to complete that step. my phone is up and running with fresh 1.1 without any issues, so did i do it rite ? just outta curiosity
The second one is the cache. I think it gets rebuilt anyway on the first boot with fresh installed.

Apps seem to restart?

I'm not sure how to describe this, and I looked through the threads some, but it didn't seem to match any of others' problems exactly. I'm running MOAR v6.2 Oa6, and every few minutes things seem to "refresh." Anything hanging out in the notification bar reappears, Lux quits then readjusts the screen, any music stops and goes away, Link Bubble disappears. If I'm using other apps, like Facebook, it goes unaffected, but if I have Pandora on-screen, it stops. If I am actively looking at Link Bubble it will stay, but the bubble goes away if it's just sitting there and this happens. It seems to be just a few apps that use a persistent notification that are affected.
I've tried disabling Greenify to see if that was the culprit, I've tried doing a factory reset, I've even tried reflashing MOAR, thinking it was a snafu the first flash. Still does it.
Thanks for your help!
Just one more detail that might be related, the Play Store seems to keep quitting while downloading apps, especially if downloading multiple apps at once. My guess is that it stems from the same cause.
Just thought I'd post an update as I think I found the solution. As my apps were seeming to restart and crash constantly, I ended up flashing stock (there was an update anyway) and reinstalling MOAR. But what I think did it, since I experienced the same problem after all that anyway, was doing a more thorough wipe. Instead of just a regular factory reset or just cleaning out the cache and dalvic, I wiped the cache, dalvic, data, and internal data, and that seemed to do the trick.

Random crashing/freezing + restarts

On 5.1.1 with a S6 from Rogers in Canada, stock everything, unrooted
Recently phone has been freezing randomly then restarting on its own. Previously would happen just a couple times a week, but recently has been happening, more, today it happened 3 times in one hour.
Doesn't seem to be a specific app that causes this, the crashing also happened when I booted into safemode.
I have done a factory reset, reflashed the stock FW via Odin, and cleared the cache. None of this has helped. Anyone else experiencing this as well or know how to fix it?
I'm out of ideas and about to send it off to Samsung to get it fixed
same goes to me. coming from rooted rom. sometimes can't even go into recovery. it will crashed randomly. managed to install stock rom. but still got a lot of crash.
I find the samsung gear vr app causes lots of ****.
You can't even review it because it's not in the google store they just push it to the device.
Half the time the install reboots and screen is reset to 1028*768 ish. and about 32 colors. I have to reboot in disgust. Seems to put it back.
Sometimes I turn it on and It's a black screen with a small white x in the corner like an ad. But you can't hit the x or back out of the app or use the menu button to clear the app or use the home button to goto the home screen.
I know it's samsung/oculus **** because it says it out loud "plug in your samsung vr device......"
I've taken to clearing the dalvik and even the cache even though I have to reinstall all the apps.

Clearing Dalvik cache via TWRP causes apps to launch A LOT slower

Hello guys! I have a bit tricky/technical question here. Yesterday I wanted to refresh my Pixel 3 a bit (clean flash with the December firmware, then rooted and never received OTA updates) so I booted TWRP and cleared the Dalvik Cache. When I rebooted, I noticed that some apps (especially Google ones like Youtube, built-in Camera, Maps) all suffer from a slow launch. A lot slower. Like... 3-4 seconds before the YouTube app can show anything different than the white splash screen with the red play logo. The Camera is also slow enough to see the fully black screen with the small centered camera icon for 2 seconds too. This only happens on clean start (when the app is cleared from the Recent Apps panel).
I checked the /data/dalvik-cache folder and it seems that all files are re-created after the wipe, however it's fairly obvious that the apps are no longer running from the odex/oat/whatever it's called now binaries. Clearing the app cache doesn't solve the issue, I've tried that. The only 'working' solution seems to be uninstalling the offending apps (e.g. Youtube) and then performing a clean install from the PlayStore. Then, the app launches fast as usual. However, I'm afraid that I can't do this for all of my apps (I'm going to lose preferences) plus I'm kind of afraid that the System apps (like the "Settings" app) cannot be re-installed with such ease and I will be stick with slow 'clean starts' here and there forever.
Do you guys know how I can trigger the 'App optimization' process that is observed when an OTA update is applied? You know, that time consuming screen that says 'Optimizing apps, 7 of 82'. This is when Android rebuilds the dalvik-cache and apparently I need to manually perform that. The other option would be to perform a clean flash (I'm already 4 months behind anyway), but I'm not particularly thrilled by the idea. Any suggestions on how to manually trigger the App Optimization process in order to rebuild my Dalvik?
I don't have a fix for you, but don't do that with TWRP. It does not apply to newer phones.
