Hello XDA:
Earlier today I successfully flashed my nook color to CM7.2 using TWRP 2.3.0.2 as described in this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227.
After that I successfully flashed TWRP 2.8.3.0.
Right now I am trying to flash CM11 with the corresponding g.apps, but the files are not visible in recovery. What can I do? This is my first time rooting/loading roms so any help I can get is much appreciated.
Hi there,
Try to put that files (zips of CM and GApps) on the external SD Card and try again. maybe is something wrong with that recovery and didn't recognize your internal memory.
Also give us more details about your device for better pointing to the right forum.
Thanks
Hi thanks for the reply. I was actually trying to load the files from an external SD the entire time.
I managed the fix the problem luckily. I had an extra SD card on hand so I re-downloaded the files and tried flashing them to the device from the other card. It worked.
Is this a good way to do things in the future? That way I can keep my files intact on the main SD card and use a seperate SD card to flash new ROMs etc. Though I dont know if the file systems on the main SD card will be interchangeable between ROMs.
The device is a Nook Color (encore). I used the link that I posted in the OP to load CM7 and then CM11. The Nook Color community seems rather dead, so I posted here.
Glad to hear that you have done it.
Take care with SD Card no name. You can loose important files like photos or other docs if something goes wrong.
Good luck

Hi, i looked in other forums but couldn't find the answer to this. If I got a new SD card, what is the process to change cards?
I formatted the new one and copied all the stuff from the old one to the new one. Booted, blank screen/wouldn't boot.
Do I need to format, Download a ROM to it, flash it, then boot or what?
Thanks in advance.
I think you would have to partition it and then put whatever rom and reflash everything
A blank screen..? The hell, that's weird. From my knowledge, it should still work with a bunch of FC's and Errors. And no you don't have to reflash everything like KingSkeme recommended, but you may have to since your device is acting a bit weird.
But yeah, first of all you need to format it. Second, you need to search this yourself. I find it bullcrap that people like you can't find this info yourself.
Here, I spent about 2 minutes of my life for you.

If you can't follow those steps, then you shouldn't have rooted your phone.
P.s depending on which Rom you use, I believe CM automatically does the ext/swaps for your SD card.
If not, oh I found more information with my friend google

How to switch to a different SD card
EDIT: Sorry, double post.
I just got my g-tab in (not a w00t purchase, ebay in fact)
I'm reading over scsione889's very awesome guide before I dive in. While I was reading the guide I note that it very specifically instructs the reader to flash from internal memory.
I found this to be rather odd since all my experience with clockwork on my dInc has been flashing from SD. Does anyone have any details on why flashing from internal memory is used in the guide?
Question number two comes from the w00t purchasers warning thread
I checked my stock firmware version after reading this thread and it's 1.0-2736. Why is it necessary to install the OTA before flashing other roms etc? Does it update the kernel? It certainly can't be a radio issue on this tablet =P
I have already installed clockwork at this point and I wanted to ask about this before performing the OTA or just flashing Vegan. Any tips on the OTA thing?
Hepful posts will as always be thanked!
After investigating a bit it seems like the G tab handles it's own internal memory as an SDcard. This strikes me as odd but may be normal. Will clockwork not detect a "second" SDcard?
More info would be great if anyone has it.

All the devices I've owned has the 'internal' memory labelled as SDCARD, even though it's not actually removable. When flashing roms you will be copying the files over to the internal memory (labelled on the device as sdcard).
Your legitimate sd card is usually labelled as something else. /emmc, etc etc. It will likely depend on the rom/kernal you are using.
k4el,
Internal memory is /sdcard. External miniSD card is /sdcard2.
You can flash by putting the appropriate recovery and update.zip files in /sdcard and
booting into recover with power and volume +.
You can also flash by putting the same to files on a miniSD card and putting it in the
slot. Only thing is you have to edit the command file in the recovery folder to change
the location from /SDCARD to /SDCARD2. (You can do that with Notepad, but make
sure when you save it you keep the file name as "command".)
Your USB key shows up in the file manager as "/usbdisk" but it is not usable for booting
or recovering.
I think there is a pretty good sticky on this topic at the beginning the General Forum.
Rev
Standard recovery can use a microSD for flashing (the instructions are slightly different, as Rev mentioned) but the "safe" version of clockworkmod we use only reads off the internal memory only. Newer versions on cwm can use both, but they is a higher risk of to causing a soft-brick so I personally don't recommend them.
Hi all,
I am a noob, first post. I purchased my XOOM (WiFi version) one week ago. I was led to believe it was stock (it is 2 mo. old) and have discovered that it has been rooted and modded. Here is the Device Info:
Android Version 3.2
Kernel Version 2.6.36.4-Tiamat_Xoom-v2.1.0-Tachi-StockGPU-gcef3887
It did not come with an SD card. I purchased one today (16gb). Are there critical files missing that were on the original sd card?! Thanx in advance.
To further clarify; if I wish to factory reset the device, are there files that I will need on the sd card other than a current backup?
the stock xoom didnt come with an sd card. it didnt even support it initally. hitting the restore to default button will not remove your root.

What exactly do you want to do with your Xoom? It is great to already be rooted and that Tachi kernel is a big improvement over stock. Do you just want to clean out the previous owners stuff and make it more yours? Or do you want to go back to a pure stock state?
That is a good question. I guess my main concern is that I am able to mod my device without any problems that the previous owner may have caused by removing critical files on the SD card. I'm a little paranoid as I am just beginning to learn.
I discovered a clockworkmod recovery file "recovery-clockwork-4.0.0.4-stingray.img" in the internal memory. I don't understand what that file is. Is this a stock recovery file?

ClockworkMod recovery is a custom recovery. It is installed when rooting and is a great improvement over the stock recovery because it allows you to make a complete system image so you can experiment with new rom or kernel and always be able to restore to a previous state if you're dissatisfied or if something goes wrong. Also, with the right version you can save files to your external micro sdcard [you purchase it.it does not come with the Xoom] and flash them through your CWM recovery menu. However, version 4.0.0.4, the one you have installed, doesn't recognize the external sdcard. You will need to install version 3.2.0.0 R4c.
Thanks for the info, I will install version 3.2.0.0 R4c. Looks like the previous owner saved me some work.
This is one heck of a way to introduce myself. I am embarrassed and frantic about what has happened. I've been using the guidance in these forums for years, never had any problems, but I usually made a backup. Because of the size of the S3 backups, I didn't have one this time.
I have a Verizon S3 on stock ROM, rooted, CWM Touch Recovery installed, bootloader locked. I flashed the CRT Down - ODEX.zip (attached) from the thread below. Everything seemed to go well, but on reboot the phone gets stuck in the boot animation. I have also contacted Scott over Scott's ROMS since this was where the file came from, but have not heard back. My first preference is to undo the changes to the modded files. Second choice is to flash the latest stock ROM (Stock Root - VRALHE - ODEX.zip) that I have downloaded, BUT I cannot get it on the phone since the phone won't boot, and for some reason CWM does not see any files on the external SD card. My last choice is to do a wipe/restore from stock, and I think I know how to do this, but it will be very painful.
Anyone in a helping mood? I don't know where to go from here. This is just terrible.

CWM won't read your SD card because it's not formatted to the correct file system. You could take your card and backup the data, format it to Fat32 then transfer the ROM over to your phone that way. I've long since lost the link to the simple format tool that I used to format my card but if you search for it you should find it in I think the General Forum...
SD card already FAT32, formatted by PC and then reformatted in phone. Thanks anyway.

If you reformated in phone you formatted it back to extFAT.
You are absolutely correct sir. Your assessment was dead on. Thank you very much. I can now make a backup to the external card. Unfortunately, I had to restore the phone (-#*@"*). I found that two other 64GB cards I was having problems with had the same issue. Wow! Twenty five years around computers and I just figured out how to format volumes larger than 32GB in FAT32. Thanks again. This thread is done.
hello everyone. im kind of new to this so i apologise if this is within the wrong area of the forums, and if so can someone please move it to the correct place.
with that said heres my problem.
