Tried searching but couldn't really find a definite answer. I'm coming from the world of nexus devices where the nexus 6 and 9 both force encryption. Since the shield tablet is fairly close to stock android I wanted to know if it forces encryption on lollipop or is it optional?
Also if encryption is optional does it provide an option to decrypt (like most samsung devices) if you do decide to encrypt it or do you just have factory reset it to get rid of encryption?
Thanks
Anyone? Just want to know if encryption is mandatory or optional on lollipop for the shield tablet. Any insight would be helpful.

I've done the update a few days ago, and haven't been forced to encrypt yet.

I got my Transformer yesterday, and I'm still discovering all its features.
But I'm having a little problem...
My unit when I turned it on for the first time was missing some apps, like MyDesktop.
Also, I was experiencing some issued which I believe were fixed, like MyNet being in Spanish instead of English (I'm Italian but I use English on all my systems)
I thought it wasn't fully updated, went to Settings->About Tablet->System Update, and checked for updates.
The result was (and still is) "There is no update currently available for your device"
Any ideas?
Hi, I have been trying to update my Transformer for the past couple of days with the same results, no update found I can only think that either the server is busy or the update has been removed temporarily.

Thanks, Neil.
Knowing that I'm not the only one having this issue at least calms a bit the fear that something isn't working on my side.
Let's hope we manage to update as soon as possible - I'd really like to check the new stuff
Have you tried clearing the caches for all the system and Asus apps in the settings, rebooted, and then attempted the update again? Or a full reset?
If i were you two i would seriously consider rooting it and apply the update via the rooted update in the android development thread. Just my .02$

Yup, cleared the cache for all the apps, rebooted, and... same result.
I haven't done a complete restore to factory settings yet, but yesterday I tried the update as soon as I turned the thing on, before installing anything, so that should be as close to factory settings as possible.

Actually, I'm a bit scared about rooting the device. I know I won't install alternative OS's and I'll never tamper with the system innards, so rooting is not really a priority for me.
Meanwhile, I've also dropped a note to Asus support, let's see if they can shed some light...

Hi all, I have the CROMI v3.4.4 running nicely on my Infinity.
I would like to add connection to our company groupware. Without going into too much detail, company policy requires the device to be encrypted. I have read older threads reporting encryption problems related to the early versions of stock JB ROM. Are these problems gone by now? And if so, is this true for CROMI as well? My questions:
- Is there trouble to be expected when using encryption on the CROMI?
- Is there a recommended pocedure to follow?
- In case encryption fails, is it safe to restore a recovery backup and the device is back to where it has been?
Any pointer is highly appreciated!
Wondering if no one ever tried to encrypt the device?

If I remembered correctly, the encryption is fixed since version .20.

Oh good, thanks! So it should be safe to do this on CROMI v3.4.4.
Guess I will give it a try and report back.
Hi,
I have recently updated my Android One GM 4G to Marshmallow and I need to do a factory reset because that didn't fix my extremely slow wi-fi speeds. Now, it looks like Android 6 does automatic backups on wi-fi but that doesn't help me since my w-fi speed is the reason why I'm doing this.
I need a no root, complete backup solution. Is there a manual setting in Marshmallow to force a backup so I can wait through until it's done? Or anything similar?

Hi and thank you for using XDA Assist
Nope, you can schedule a backup or force to do one whenever you want (for now) you can either turn it on or turn it off.
You will have to wait a bit. Marshmallow was released just one month ago .

Thanks. It's unbelievable that it took Google six different versions to put a complete backup solution. Even then, it still lacks the simple options like "backup now".
Hey folks, I'm currently on the official Android Oreo build with root and noticed, that whenever I want to buy an app the play store crashes. Anyone experienced something similar?

Yes. Unrooted and it crashes with purchases. Tried wiping cache and data for play store. Thinking of doing a factory reset. On Pixel XL.

I had something similar in the past couple of days. Try searching Google on play store and then have a look at any Google apps that need updating, particularly Android system Web view

That is the culprit. Try wiping data and cache in app. Or maybe uninstalling it and reinstalling straight away? I was able to enable it so just suggestions here. Keep trying.

Maybe a coincidence then. Have you tried logging out of your Google account? Or wiping all your account settings and logging in again?

No success again. Is there a way to remove root on the Oreo builds? Couldn't find anything since this topic is pretty new at all. Will fastboot flashing the boot img from the Oreo build be sufficient?

There's nothing wrong with your web view. It's that way by design. It has been since Nougat. By default Nougat and Oreo use Chrome instead of Android System WebView. That's why you can't enable it right now. You can change it so it uses WebView instead in developer options.
Google explains how Chrome will become WebView in Android 7.0

Ever find a solution? I haven't had a chance to factory reset yet, will likely do so this weekend unless an alternative solution exists.

Did a factory reset, didn't help though. Had to reflash the Oreo image. Rooted again and play store works fine now.
Hi everyone, i have a brand new Poco X3 Pro (it has just a few weeks) and of course I want to install a cool and stable ROM, cause you know MIUI is just bad and also keeps sending data back to Xiaomi servers..
Anyway I am a long time user of custom ROM since my old HTC One X+ but since I've grown up a bit I now have sensible data on my phone and i would like to use a ROM wich support FULL PHONE ENCRYPTION (never find one for my old devices)
Any suggestions? Is full phone encryption even possible on a custom ROM?
Thanks in advance for any useful answer.
UncleWalrus
Data encryption is activated by default.
On all custom ROMs? Like arrow os?

Most has data encrypted by default. Some ROMs will disable data encryption like EliteROM.
ArrowOS did not change data encryption, so by default is encrypted.
Thanks man, it's really a must have for me. I will try arrow as soon as possible.
Anyway since we are here, any ROM suggestions?

Go with the most replies as to some point means many users may have experience of that ROM.
