Are you under bright or indoor lighting conditions when it happens? How long does it happen for? Usually that sort of thing is affected by bright indoor light sources etc.

yes im indoors. there's a ceiling light (the long tube one idk what it's called) above me. my room is dark on one side and bright on the other because i only switched on one of the lights.
another case is when im at a shop. the shop was brightly lit and the lines appear too..
it happens when the camera does its first autofocus. probably 1second more or less
I had this happen to me a couple of times in the past week. Each time, I woke my phone up and double-tapped the home button to launch the camera and saw the whole picture jiggling around like a funhouse mirror. I would then exit the camera and go back in and it was fine. I don't know if it was from launching too quickly, or what, but it scared the crap out of me. I was outdoors in bright light each time it happened.
This happened to me a couple more times yesterday. In both cases, I hurriedly woke the phone up and launched the camera. In both cases, the camera was fuzzy/shaky, and the phone actually made a strange white-noise sort of sound.

Hi, my G2x has this really bright LED light that goes for a good 5 seconds before it actually takes a picture. Is there anyway to stop this? If I'm on the receiving end it blinds me, as it does other people when getting their picture taken.
Its for the auto focus. It will remain lit for as long as it takes to focus. Not sure if you can disable but doing so would also disable its ability to focus.

Actually, it sounds more like the red-eye reduction flash mode to me. Instead of using "Auto" for your flash setting, try manually setting the flash type you want to use.
is this a serious question? TURN OFF THE FLASH!

Is that a serious answer? If you turn off the flash then the picture will come out dark, he is refering to the light that comes on before the flash.
Yea I just had some pics taken with my phone. It was dark, and when they hit the button, the LED light came on for like 3-4 seconds, then flickered while it took the pic.
My Nexus One did the same thing. It is for the focus, since we have an auto-focusing lense.
The button is so freaking sensitive. Camera took 186 pictures of my ceiling last night while I was sleeping because the pillow on the seat barley touched it. Last night I put my feet on the table and from the vibrations the camera turned on and took pictures. One point it came on and I switched to video camera to see what it's doing, and with out pressing the button the video camera would start and stop recording. I got the phone yesterday :-( I put on the pattern lock to stop it somehow but the screen still turns on and I know from my G2 that it will kill the battery no matter what you do on Android. Any help?

Interesting...I haven't had this issue with the camera button.

oright cool, thanks guys. Thought it was the whole "phone built around the camera" concept that they thought it was a good idea to be able to take picture quickly. Thanks guys.
Yeah, there's definitely something wrong with your phone.
One of the MyTouch 4Gs issues is one of it's features..
you can activate the camera, even with the screen locked by holding down the shutter button. Sure it's good for those quick shots, but it's giving you an issue.
However to have a button that sensitive is not normal, please return it and get yourself one that works.
OP, just to be clear, which button are you referring to when you say, the camera button?Do you mean the silver one on the bottom right side of the phone?
Yeah I hardly touched it and it would start the camera. I'm back to using my G2 till T-Mo loyalty sends me another new one. Thanks for the help guys.
When set to auto does anyone have the screen lighten up then darken as you browse through a site?
It is really noticeable when I am on Google+(white background). I don't remember having this happen on my G2. Anyways I now don't use auto.
Just wondering if its normal.

It might be that while holding your phone you cover the light sensor and by that simulate dark surroundings?
I would guess that you have it near some surface. So when it shows white background, the light reflects from surface and the sensor thinks its "bright" outside, so turns on the brightness. As you surf and see some picture or change page (or w/e what doesnt have so much white) the sensor detencs that its not that bright anymore and turns down brightness...
Atleast that would be my guess. Screen does make some light and sensor can get affected by it (its above screen, u can see it true glass).
I noticed this too while playing on the demo at a TMobile store. It was only when I went to the HTC Play or movies or whatever it's called. Some of the movies would darken the screen when they started playing. Kind of odd. I wasn't moving around (changing light on the phone). Just standing there at the counter playing with it.

I believe I have seen this as well. Brief, full screen, yellow flicker/tint.
Happened to me during, or immediately after, the unlock/flash/root process, and haven't seen it since. Happened with a new notification came in, seemed to almost revolve around the notification bar. Is this consistent with what you saw?
This is common amongst a lot of light sensors. Happened to me on my Vibrant and when I had a iphone.

I've had my old trusty N5 since launch day and its been just fine since then. Last night was just another average night, went home from work, plugged it in to charge and sent to bed. I wake up the next morning and as I was laying down using it I heard clicking. I then open up my Snapchat to check one and I switch to the front camera and the image is very very blurry and its "moving" almost and the clicking is violently happening from the back camera. I look over at the lens and notice its moving around a lot making this clicking sound. I have no idea what to make of this and it also clicks when I turn my flashlight on. It worked just fine last night as I said.
Anyone else experience this?
TLDR: when using the back camera any way at all, the lens shakes, bounces and moves all around, causing pictures to always be blurry/not focused/half focused and it looks like I'm shaking my camers around and it makes beeping sounds trying to focus. Happened after I went asleep last night.
I'm having the same issue with my Nexus 5. I'm beginning to think that Snapchat causes this but if anyone has a solution please let us know
I have noticed the 2x icon in the bottom left corner of the camera app showing up most of the time. I don't know if it always was like this or if it started happening with an update or something. Whenever there isn't any object, wall etc within 2-3 meters away, the 2x icon shows up indicating I may want to take a macro shot even though nothing is close to the camera. When an object exists within 2-3 meters but not close enough to suggest a macro shot, the indicator goes off. If the object comes close enough, the 2x lits again and this case should be the only valid case.
Anyone else noticing this?

It's suggesting a better way to take the same photo. If you press the 2X, it'll switch to a shorter lens,. but then it'll tell you to move back. So you'll get the same shot you were originally going to take, but it's going to be a better result, according to the software anyway.
There is no other lens it's digital cropping. And I could step back all the way to China and it'd still tell me to keep going ?
Sorry, meant switches to to 2x zoom, not different lens. So all you need to do is hold the phone back a little. This gets you a better shot. Try it, it does work. The S20 does the same thing.
You are still misinterpreting me ☺ I have the 2x icon visible all the time, even when no object is near. I may have a wall 5 meters away and the phone still suggest 2x and backing away which is obviously some kind of bug. The 2x suggestion should light up when I have an object near the camera where this method makes sense. This is the way it worked until recently due to some update most likely.
Ahhhh, sorry. Yes, I just tested, and mine is doing that too. It's always showing the 2X, unless I hold it really close to something.
