Hello all,
My N5 has its power button weared down. These last two days I wasnt able to turn it on because of the classic boot loop.
How can I prevent this?
I currently installed Gravity Screen to reduce power button usage to the minimum. I like how it unlocks my phone (movemente and proximity sensor work fine) but locking it doesnt seem very convenient as it doesnt support shakelock or double tap or gestures.
I'd like some app or ROM that enables me to lock my phone with a shake and unlocks it in the same fashion (or a double tap on the screen like the opo cellphone).
Are there any options?
Thanks

Is there a program so that when your screen is locked, you can assign one button only to wake your screen and have access to the unlock slider? Now, if any of the 4 hard buttons are pressed, it brings up the unlock screen. The problem is, when the phone is in my pocket, any one of the 4 buttons, if accidentally pressed, wakes up the screen. Then of course, I hear my phone in my pocket clicking because the heat from my leg is "tapping" the screen. I just want to have the right hard button wake the phone up.
I cant find an option in the settings for this, nor any threads that discuss it.
Thanks.
I really admire you if you're able to slide the slider with the phone in your pocket.
LOL. No, I dont slide it. Just that when in my pocket, when any one of the 4 hard buttons are pressed(accidentally), i have to press the power button to lock the screen again. A pain in the butt. I what the phone to have only one hard button, not 4, that will shut off the screen when the phone is locked.
I'd like it too.
Maybe even some old school unlocking shortcut that uses hardware key combination (e.g. Home + Vol Down), rather than slide.
The Diamond, or was it the HD, had a button on the top to wake the phone up. That was nice because it was hard to accidentally press that button when it was in your pocket.
I use pocketshield for automatically unlocking my phone when the light sensor senses light coming in. An added benefit for this is that when the phone is in my pocket and I accidentally press any button, the screen will automatically shut itself off again after 10 seconds since there is no incoming light. This tool has really made my life so much easier as it gets rid of the stupid slider thing as well; you can use the lightsensor, the motion sensor and an old school sliding mechanism to unlock your phone- brilliant stuff!
Iarapilot might have meant something else indeed. Most of WM6.1-WM6.5 have a tab in the Start->Settings->Buttons screen that allows you to choose which kind of wake-up you need: waking up by pressing the Pw-ON button or waking up pressing whatever button you want. Sudden power-on is very boring, even thought you can't make your device work as you need to slide the screen. But this is a power comsuption anyway and I wonder why previous version had this chance regardless the home screen features. I do want it!!
I think it's a matter of regkeys, somebody of us who's used to "playing" with regkeys should figure out how this feature could be resumed.
Hope you help us!!
Maybe I didnt make my point very well. I just would like to have only the R hardware key, when pressed, wake up the screen so as to be able to slide to unlock. Not 4 buttons, that when any of those are pressed, wake up the screen.
I also have the problem, I only want to have only one key to wake up not other key
Please help us
Since it's free, I add myself to the request queue Having the screen wake up only on powerbutton press could be useful to reduce to 25% the probabilityof screen turning on by accident when buttons are pressed inside the pocket. Battery saver for sure.
Same here. I've been looking for this since I first got the phone! My old kaiser could do this, surely it wouldn't be too hard to implement on the HD2?
edit: nevermind, posted in the wrong thread
I don't think any software can control that as key presses send electrical signals direct to the chip/power unit, where the "power on" circuits reside. What software can do is turn it off again if not unlocked within a specific amount of time, so battery is saved. Screen touches shouldn't be an issue either if using a lock screen.

and doesnt create any problem in normal use? u ask because if u are in call and let some other app start while talk (maybe with earphones) its quietly impossible use portrait mode because left hand always cover light sensor and screen shut down.. its the same with that app?
Did someone already found a solution? I would like such a option too. wake up only by centerbutton for instance....
After the success of Smart Screen OFF, I decided to publish another app called Smart Screen ON available in LITE and PRO version too.
Smart screen ON
Smart Screen ON LITE
DESCRIPTION:
Smart screen ON is an innovative app which turns your proximity sensor into a power button. If you have a big phone with no physical button on the front(Galaxy Nexus for example, you can turn on or turn off the phone just tapping or waving your hand (finger) on proximity sensor.
FEATURES:
When you change the settings, remember saving and restarting service using built in app specific button.
There are two mode available, both mode can coexist:
+WAVE MODE:
Wave (move) your hand/finger on proximity sensor, even without touching it.
You can set the amount of waves you want to use to turn on/off screen and the time between each wave.
Do you want to wave your hand quickly or slowly?
+TAP AND SWIPE MODE:
1) Tap proximity sensor using your finger;
2) Wait for the first vibration;
3) Swipe (remove) quickly your finger, before it vibrates for the second time.
You can set the time before the first and the second vibration.
+DISABLE SENSOR
You can also disable sensor after an amount of time you can set in the app panel.
The app will disable the whole service and proximity sensor after X time of inactivity.
+STATISTICS
Statistics include:
A)Smart Screen ONs;
B)Smart Screen OFFs;
C)Total power button saves;
D)The power used by your proximity sensor (which is very very low).
+START ON BOOT
If you check this, the app will start on boot.
+HIDE ICON
If you hide the icon, the app could be instable and could be killed by Android in low memory conditions.
+ENABLE FOR TURNING SCREEN OFF
The app has been created to turn screen off, but I also give you the ability to turn screen off.
+DISABLE WHEN LANDSCAPE
The sensor will stop working when landscape.
+INCOMPATIBILITY
-HTC Desire HD is not compatible with "wave mode" because its proximity sensor doesn't work as it should.
If you want to suggest new features, please contact me on this thread, at [email protected] or use my site www.androidhd.it
first off love the app purchased the full version. i have a evo lte and when i disable the lock screen it will still pops up a random times but frequently. even thought in the settings it says no lock screen, i still get the lock screen is there a work around to get that to stop?
Concept is amazing, but how about battery stats? Have someone been using it for some time and can tell me its impact on the battery?
I purchased it from the Play store (to get rid of the notification bar icon). Works pretty well. I haven't been able to test this and see if running the app tolls the battery more, though I would think it most likely does.
When I wave my hand to wake up my device, it briefly displays my home screen (literally a split second) before the lock screen shows up. I haven't played with the app enough to figure out why it does this, I have my lock screen enabled for the record.
yea mine is disable and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't i haven't been able to figure out why.
i am also having a issue with the brightness on the screen i had it set to auto and when i would turn the screen on the display would become dimmed every now and then and it would stay dimmed until i would go into the brightness area and change the brightness then it would restore to normal. this happened with auto brightness set and manual brightness set.
I have just a simple question to other users of this (otherwise nice) phone: I have the screen lock set up the standard way (no pin or anything), I also use the display doube-tap wake-up gesture (I found it quite useful for the phone with symmetrical front side). What happens is, that if I have my phone in the pocket, display facing the leg, the phone sometimes wakes up itself, runs some application or make a phone call to somebody from my quick dial list. If I position it facing outside of the pocket (which is quite insecure for the glass), it does not happen. The weird thing is, that if I switch off the double-tap feature, it does not solve the problem... The phone is with stock ROM 5.0.2-01003, no root (unfortunately). Does this happen also to anybody else, or just me?
P.S.: I wonder, why there's no such simple feature like "solid phone display lock" when the proximity sensor is covered... Possibly, somebody will implement it in a custom ROM (I hope ).
I don't have an elegant solution for you, but I'll pipe in that this has happened to me several times. I have a suspicion that the power button is being hit in the pocket- a problem which is not unique to this device.
I'm using Nova launcher with double-tap set to (PIN) lock the device, and this pretty much solves the problem, but does add extra hassle if you don't care about the security.
same happens to me on my 5.5 but i have gesture lock, so th ephone only start dialing in emergency dialer...only one solution is to insert the phone to the pocket with back cover facing the leg.
I use pattern lock but I was facing the same issues as the others (emergency dialing and camera activation). I've tried several apps from playstore and the best results are with Pocket Screen Lock (com.goldenpie.psl). The screen cannot be activated with the double tap nor with the power button when the proximity sensor is covered.
One other thing you are overlooking is to position the phone upside down in your pocket. Understandable not to have the glass facing outward, but you can put the phone in 'up-side down' and turn on reversible screen . That should prevent the power button from being inadvertently triggered in my experience.
I've had the same issue, but only with this one pair of jeans, so it probably depends on the cloth.
FYI, if you're rooted, the Gravitybox module for Xposed has a setting under Power Tweaks called "Proximity wake-up" which does exactly what you want in terms of preventing wake ups when the proximity sensor is covered. I've only just turned it on, but so far it seems to be working well.
Actually it seems that this has been fixed in the latest update for 6039. The display cannot be unlocked by the gesture anymore if the sensor is covered. All other apps have conflict with this (at least for me). Which in turn requires the power button to be explicitly pressed in order the display to be activated. Even if it's not in my pocket anymore.

Right you are on both counts. I'll test further before posting next time. Thanks for the correction.
I recently noticed that LineageOS has introduces a very nice feature which becomes very handy (I tested it and I love it). I think its the most effective way to use the mobile phone as a torch. Long press power for torch works when the device is off/locked and will turn on/off the LED. So if one is using a flip case you don't even have to flip open the case. As soon as the display is turned on the LED gets switched off to prevent leaving torch on unintendedly. This is currently my number one request.
Secondly I would also like to have pin pad scrambling in omni. From my experience it not only lessens the problem with finger prints left on the display after entering the pin for many times but also makes it much harder for people nearby observing me entering the pin to get my device unlocked.
I noticed that on the latest build there is "double tap to wake" in display-settings and some more screen of gestures along with the proximity check option in some dedicated gestures settings menu. I suggest to move the "double tap to wake" option into the dedicated gestures menu to have all in one place or at least to move the proximity check option to display settings.
+1
Ya Screen-off Power button to Torch feature is much needed..! When very basic stock ROMs like LOS, Pixel experience packs this feature, Omni should include it
Oreo build has it.
OmniGears > Buttons > Power > Long press for flashligh (Toggle flashlight when screen is off)
I find this phone great, the only thing that is bugging me is the position of the power button. It's so far up the right hand side I find it a pain to reach to (I always hold phone in my left hand). I would lock my old phone by using a gesture through Nova Launcher, but (I think because of a newer Android version) it is no longer possible to do that properly. It can only be done so that the phone is "Admin locked" and requires the pin to unlock (not face/fingerprint), or to turn the display black until it times out (which is supposed to be for 5 seconds but for some reason it takes the full normal timeout of 1 min).
Does anyone know of a way to lock the phone properly using anything other than the power button? (without root)
I know LG seem against remapping the assistant button, but one great option they could have would be to be able to swap round the power and assistant buttons
Not the right thread to ask in but you can turn on KnockON in General settings and thereafter double tapping on the notification bar will lock your phone.
Thanks for the tip.
Apologies for posting in the wrong place, I meant to do it in Q&A, somehow I messed up :/
Mods please feel free to delete/move this topic
You can also double tap any open space on the home screen to lock the phone. Same with the lock screen. Double tapping anywhere while display is off wakes it.
