So I made the mistake of letting a 5 and 8yr old use my phone over the past weekend and they dropped the phone on concrete...
The good thing is it's not a 'web' crack, but it's one long crack from the left to right edge as well as a diagonal line on the top left corner. The digitizer isn't affected but from what I read, the glass is stuck on really well to the digitizer so it may be hard to just buy a replacement glass and install it.
Anyone know of options for getting this repaired?
PS I live in Toronto.
There was a member on here who order a note edge from ebay with a crack screen.
He then order a lcd with glass from another site (i believe aliexpress).
It cost about $180. No work if he replaced it or the quaity of the lcd tho.
Unless u have plenty of practice the just replacing the glass isnt really an option on any phone much less one with a curved screen. Your options are probably
Find the lcd/digitiser assymbly and replace it yourself.
If u have insurance then just pay the deductible and get them to replace the screen/device
I personally have sprint and there is a 200$ deductible for damaged/lost/stolen devices. If i couldnt find a replacement assymbly for under 150 i would just pay the deductible. Theoretically i could just report it lost/stolen and get a replacement. Then either keep the cracked one as a backup/parts device(esn would be no good for activation any longer) or sell it and try and get most of my money back by selling it third party as a bad esn phone. But that wouldnt be right so im not saying i would do that

My sidekick fell off the bleachers when I was shootin hoops and the corner where the LED notification lights are got cracked, their small cracks and dont cover the whole screen, but how can I go about getting this fixed?? Im almost willing to go get a new phone if there is no solution, because having a cracked phone is not fresh..
You might have to. I don't think ebay or amazon offer lcd replacements, but I haven't searched thoroughly. You can pay full retail price in monthly installments if you're on T-Mobile postpaid. Or you can send it in to be fixed. Either way, it won't be cheap.
There are some websites that offer the lcd digitizer. You would have to open it up yourself and switch it out, I assume just the glass broke right? Not the actual lcd? I don't have any links, but I was going to buy a used cracked screen sk 4g, but the digitizers are any where from 49.99 and 60$ us dollars. Also couldn't find any intructions on. How to actually open the device, but shouldn't be too hard if you have the tools.
basically my front glass lens got a crack (LCD is fine) and my back housing has been worn out. If any one willing to donate a dead Captivate will really appreciate and will pay the delivery cost to Middle east.
If nobody helps you out, care to provide your phone for my project?
amazon.com, search captivate digitizer. if not on there, Google it. you can buy replacement parts.

Here you go. And why in god name does it cost that much? This phone is an antique at this point! $124 for a screen? Perhaps thats why the OP was hoping someone might have a dead one, probably cheaper to buy a broken captivate than buy a new screen!
I know it seems late, but get a screen protector, it helps your fingers glide over the cracks without getting cut. If you already have one, buy a new one, i know atfer a while it clouds the screen, and that plus the cracks will make you hate the phone.
A nice new clear screen protector will let you be able to tolerate it for a while longer....
I know what im talking about.....
heres my cracked cappy... it still worked too! i used it like this for a good 4 months or more, then bought a used one off a co-worker for 100 bucks.

I bought a replacement "glass only" off ebay for 9 bucks, but upon more research and watching a bunch of youtube videos, i found out the LCD digitizer and glass are bonded together, so there was no way of removing the old glass without damaging the LCD.
I installed the replacement glass over-top of the cracked glass, it helps see past some of the cracks, and stops my fingers from getting sliced by the sharp edges of the cracks. its sometimes hard to activate the 4 bottom capacitive buttons through the double glass, but I only use that phone for testing and skype.
Any luck repairing it?
Where is a good place to get a replacement screen? Any way to get one under the average $90-$100 I see advertised various places?

$90 is probably your best lowest for a replacement service.
The screen should cost about $60, the adhesive is about $10 (if not less), then add labor time.
If you already have a heat gun and the adhesive, it only costs you the screen(+shipping) and time to unstick the old adhesive from your fingers.
Been there... done that... bought the shirt; bleached it; resold it with my own logo :silly:
The plus side to having a service to replace the screen is not having to pay for mistakes. Their job is to replace the screen, so if something else breaks during the repair, it's usually on the house. Or it becomes another return, and hopefully some money kicked-back for courtesy.

Thanks bhundven, I will ask around. I think the part I need is the whole assembly including the touch digitizer, not just the lens. The LCD itself is f-ed up.

Ive cracked my screen and ive found i can buy a new screen and lcd for 169.99. or i can buy just the over glass for $20. I heard you can use a heat gun to seperate the glass and the lcd. Has anyone done this and can tell me if it works?

Mostly likely the digitizer will get destroyed in the process. Buy the complete unit.
Someone said a few days ago he only replaced the glass but he had to break it in order to separate it, use the search I bet you'll find it quickly. If you can afford it take the whole thing, less chances of screwing up your phone, and you could always keep the old lcd for a test run with a glass only or in case you somehow manage to crack it again.
Still I'd suggest buying a screen protector once you fix your screen, costs less, barely noticeable and saves a whole lot of money and hassle.

This. I cracked my screen and bought an entire new one for $160 via ebay. It took 10 minutes to take apart and install the new one and be back up and running. I also bought the Otterbox Defender, honestly...works like a charm. It's durable, nice, feels good and it doesn't feel as bulky as it looks. The only down fall about a case with a screen protector is that the Galaxy series has a screen that goes all the way to the edge of the phone (like most modern phones now) so hitting stuff on the VERY edge of the screen is more difficult because of the raised case.
Buy the screen and a protector and if you are still curious, buy the replacement glass for your broken screen and try it. Worst case, you're out 20 bucks and have a completely broken screen (would be out the other $160 for the new screen you'd have to buy if you mess up any way) or best case, you're out $20 bucks but have a new screen incase you ever break it again.
Unscrew the 7 screws on the back (one is above the sim slot, keep it separate as it's a different size) and once you take the back piece off, there's one small black screw holding the board to the screen. The phone is 3 pieces, screen, board and back piece, it's extremely simple. Just pop all the circuit things with your nail or whatever (there's like 6 total). You have to pry your headphone jack off as it's glued unless your new screen comes with one...doubt it.
someone posted they got sammy to replace it for 189, call sammy up and see what they say, i think thats a good price
Forget Glass

I repair phones and have replaced Lcd/digi assembly on both I727 and T989. No way you get that apart without busting the exiting assembly up. The cheapest part can be order via Ebay from China and you'll have to wait about two weeks for part. Or there's the company I used in San Fancisco at gounlock dot com that has it listed at $154 I believe. They have a listing on ebay under SkyStarTrade and I offered em $148 including shipping and the took it. I had the part in 3 days. Would highly recommend!!!!!!
I just got off the phone with Sammi Friday. The Rep quoted me $158 to replace the glass. So if they mess up the digitizer is on them. Cheaper than I was able to find the combo anywhere on line. So tomorrow my phone heads back to Sammi. I'll let you know in about three weeks how the service was and whether they honored their quote.
And exactly 8 days from the date that I shipped it to Sammi I have a my phone back. They replaced the LCD, bezel and glass for $158 as quoted. Not only that but they paid all shipping and used UPS 2nd day air both ways. And I'm still under warranty by having them take care of it. All in all couldn't be happier with the service. So if anyone needs the glass fixed my vote would go to Sammi.
I have had the phone for a little over a month and dropped it face down on tile. It has a small crack at the bottom left corner. I now have a screen protector on it, so the crack is barely visible...however, will this make the phone more fragile? Should I pay Samsung to fix it?

i wouldn't worry about it being more fragile as you said you dropped it once its cracked regardless if you drop your phone its got a chance to smash into 50 pieces, down to luck i suppose
As long as you don't drop it again it will be fine (and even if you do chance it will be okay), its corning gorilla glass 5 its pretty strong stuff.
if you are super worried invest in a nice protective case for yourself to use while your juggling with it
I wouldn't get it wet with a crack on it.
cracked screen
Your phone might only have the digitizer cracked and if you continue to use it like you might crack the actual lcd part as well which is a lot more expensive than just the digitizer. I would get it fixed at a local repair shop. Samsung charges way to much for that. It would be cheaper to get a phone on ebay for that price

I'm actually sending mine to Samsung for them to fix a cracked screen. 70$ including tax and shipping, if that's to much then I want to know where your getting yours fixed!

thats cheap
i got mine fixed @ samsung singapore.
just a minor screen crack at the top corner.
set me back 220usd
Thats a good price n ive heard similar. Be mindful, getting phone repaired by ne 3rd party voids warranty. Might be cheaper but also nit water proof ne more when going 3rd party.
