[Q] Searching for the better dual/triple sim phones? - Android General

Doing some research for my other half, she is looking for a decent active dual or maybe triple sim phone, if such a beast exists?

There are a couple of them. Have you seen LG Optimus L1 II Tri? It has triple active sim card.

Any Suggestions Dual SIM - Android 2.3 or WM7/WM7.5

Greetings
I am on the lookout for any DUAL SIM Android 2.3.X or WM7/WM7.5 mobile with following features.
+ screen size 4.0" +
+ Capacitive multi-touch screen with bright resolution
+ atleast 1 SIM should have 3/3.5G/WCDMA. Other SIM may be regular Quad Band GSM
+ Quad band - 850/900/1800/1900MHZ and WCDMA - 900/2100MHz
+ WiFI / Bluetooth
+ Gravity / Light sensor / Compass
+ dual-core processor
+ inbuilt memory preferably over 512mb expandable to 32 GB
+ GPS / AGPS latest generation
+ Camera with 5MP and above and support video recording. Front camera for video calling can be lower resolution
+ FM Radio with built in antenna (not requiring headphone to listen to FM)
+ 3D Graphics Acceleration Chipset
I know the requirements look quite odd, but I feel that the mobiles should have the above features and it would work quite well

Wowser, thats quite a list but i doubt you will find any reputable device with those specs and dual sim. Only grey imports (copies) tend to have dual sim, but i wouldnt touch them. Best chance is to search ebay.

Thanks for the response. Yes, I know and feel its high time top companies roll out Dual SIM Mobiles. When you have multiple networks, multiple numbers, it becomes quite easy to carry a single mobile rather than 2. Now a days the mobile is becoming a tool to access internet usually for emails / quick browsing, take say quick snaps if you are traveling (rather than carry a digital camera), a GPS Device, Compass etc... so one device has multiple functions works really well for people like me, who dont want say a camera with 100s of features, etc.. dont like to carry 2 mobiles. Any other way I could use 2 SIMs on a Single SIM Mobile?

I have seen a dual sim adaptor that worked on some much older phones, but as far as i know they are not supported on newer smart phones. There was also the issue that the adaptor was quite bulky and therefore you couldnt get the battery cover back on.
Think you might be chasing a ghost train here, sorry buddy
Credit to me.. lol.. go to Google and type in (without quotes of course)" lightinthebox.com" when you there type in dual sim or just find an android phone and see a list of dual sim card phones.

Lol, yh there are some there Just be careful buying "unknown" devices, things to consider are build quality, hardware, will device work on your carrier.
Good luck.
Lol..well the site was provided now he can research what he wants and could chat with a customer rep...ask about anything..I've had people at my job who bought different Ipads and phones and they work good..till this day haven't had problems...hope that helps..let us know what your interested phone is...

well i have heard a lot about simore dual sim adapter not sure of real life examples but many posts.
really there is no REAL Dual SIM Adapter. 2 SIMs running in standby mode like the ones offered on "clone" phones or the DUAL SIMs launched by a few standard companies. But for the extra SIM they charge the moon.
Hope that I get a Dual SIM Phone like the specs I want... my search is still on
This one fits most of the profile. I have Lenovo A60 that is based on same processor, and it's excellent.

Xperia Z5 Dual in Aug. 2017 - would you buy it still?

My crazy wife just totally destroyed her Z3 Dual (+ busted LCD twice before). I also have a Z3 Dual and I am super happy with it still. It lasts 2 days on a charge and speed is more than sufficient. I'm considering giving it to her and getting something else, little newer. It has to be dual SIM with dedicated SD slot. Xperia XZ versions nowadays use hybrid SD/SIM2 slot and that's totally useless to me.
I can see Z5 Dual (6683) for about $400+ on eBay. Compared to Z3 it has uncovered USB port and slightly faster CPU. Premium (6883) with 4k screen is $500+, not worth expense, I think.
Reading comments here, it's seems like Z5 has quality and overheating issues. Would you buy Z5 again if you had a choice?
I would like to have the same question answered.
Buy Xperia X Performance instead

Xperia X Performance has a hybrid SIM 2 slot. To my knowledge, Z5 is last dual SIM Sony Xperia phone that has dedicated SD slot.
I both have z5 single and dual. Z5 dual cant handle multitasking and overheats instantly while using bluetooth and browsing the net at the same time. Z5 dual would freeze and restart by itself. I didnt experience it on z5 single sim though. Im planning to reflash the firmware and see if it would still restart.

That must be unit specific, there is hardly any appreciable hardware difference between single and dual SIM models...

Huawei Mate 9 Motherboard replacement

Hi,
I have a damaged Huawei Mate 9 64GB Dual SIM (MHA-L29). The phone needs to replace motherboard, which is not easy to find.
I have two questions:
1- Is it possible to use motherboard of Mate 9 Pro (LON-L29C) instead of (MHA-L29)? Probably not possible!
2- Is it possible to use motherboard of Mate 9 Single sim Card (MHA-L09) instead of Dual sim card (MHA-L29)?
Thanks in advance
To answer those questions:
1) My thought would be no, based on if the motherboard layouts are different. Maybe check out a few teardown views of both models to see.
2) I dont think the single sim version would work because the SIM tray for the Dual version is longer, so when you swap the board, it wont have enough space to fit the dual slots.

Option 2 should work, actually I remember that I read here about people rebranding (by changing the firmware and SIM tray only) single SIM Mate 9 to dual SIM Mate 9 - therefore, differences are only in firmware and SIM tray
Search on the net and here on XDA and you will find more reports and discussions like this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/help/mate-9-single-sim-to-dual-sim-t3596158
It was also possible to rebrand single SIM to dual SIM for some other Huawei models, like P9 Lite (but not P9) and I think P10 (used to be long ago when those phones were hot, when unlocking Bootloaders were easy and I was actively monitoring the threads here about)

Outer dimensions of single and dual SIM trays are the same, they only differ by the internal cut-off of the first slot (on the single tray it can accommodate only SD card, on the dual tray it can accommodate either SD card or nano SIM)
Longevity of that first slot depends on the longevity of SD card. Nano sim is smaller and it goes turned by 90 degrees (parallel to the nano SIM in the second, SIM only slot). Hence there is no need for that combo slot (and the whole tray) to be longer - just the hole in that first, combo slot has different shape to let also the nano SIM to settle in)
You can search on e.g. eBay, Amazon or Alibaba for the spare parts, SIM trays and compare their shape and size (and compatibility notes - e g. some dual SIM trays are denoted as fitting also to the single SIM Mate 9 models)

Thank you for the guidance this is really helpful.
I didn't think option 1 would work, my concern with option 2 was the sim card tray size, your explanation about outer dimensions and internal design of the sim tray is exactly what I was looking for.
I checked on Aliexpress and ebay for sim tray spare parts, and I was surprsed that everybody is using the dual sim tray instead of the single tray! It is making sense as it can work for both not vise versa.
I will buy the MHA-L09 motherboard and go ahead, I don't really mind using one sim, I just need to turn life to the dead phone.
Thanks for your help.

realme x50 pro 5G - Dual Sim

Hi All,
i've just taken delivery of my Realme X50 Pro phone and cant figure out the 2nd sim,
i have searched online and see plenty mentioned about dual sim capability, but i'm pretty certain this doesnt have the 2nd sim slot, it has bars across where the 2nd sim would go.
i bought it from laptops direct and it didnt mention whether it was single or dual sim, i assumed it was dual sim as all information online pointed to them being dual sim, i have the 12gb 256gb hdd option.
do you know if it is possible to add dual sim functionality similar to that of the old Huwawei p10 plus?
unfortunately because i have opened the packaging i cannot return the phone.
i have the same prplm

Can someone point me to a Dual Sim version of any the following phones: V50, V50S, G8, G8S, G8X, V60 ?

All I want is a DAC + Dual Sim + flagship to somewhat flagship quality + Android
I have a dual sim LG V20 and the only thing that I would miss from this phone is the ability to be able to replace the battery. Sadly, my V20 is already clanky and unresponsive no matter how I tune/clean it.
A dual sim V40 would be my last resort.
