I activated the navigational by editing build.prop. But, I realised that the keys are not styled like Lollipop (Refer screenshot) Any way to change the keys to look like lollipop?
Any help is appreciated.

Have a look at the following app

[HOWTO] Enable software navigation buttons / disable hardware buttons

One of the annoying things about the S4 is the lack of software navigation buttons. I was used to using them on my Nexus 4 so I really missed having them on my S4.
First of all, root is required to edit these files.
Basically, all you have to do is add 'qemu.hw.mainkeys=0' to the build.prop in /system and reboot to enable the software buttons. If you're happy with that you can stop there, but you can also disable the hardware buttons if you want.
Go to /system/usr/keylayout and open 'Generic.kl' in a text editor and find the lines that say 'key 139 MENU WAKE_DROPPED', 'key 158 BACK WAKE_DROPPED', and 'key 172 HOME' and place a # at the start of each line. Take care here because if you add a # to the wrong line, you won't have a way to wake the phone. Reboot and those hardware buttons will be disabled.
I've tested it with various apps and the phone resizes them appropriately. Software menu buttons appear where appropriate and video players cause the buttons to fade away. The only odd thing I've found is that the app drawer is shifted to a 4x4 layout instead of the regular 5x4. Also, home and back do not vibrate properly and I'm not sure which lines to edit to fix that.

The easiest way to do that is to change the lcd density. The default is 480 which makes everything MASSIVE. I find about 440 to be about perfect, but you can tweak it to find whatever is most comfortable for your eyes.
To change the lcd density, the simplest way is to go to build.prop and find the line that says 'ro.sf.lcd_density=480'. Change the 480 to whatever you want. Smaller numbers mean that things will be smaller and more spaced out and larger numbers will cause things to be larger and closer together. Reboot after you change the number and save the file for it to take affect.
You can also use tools like ROM Toolbox to make the edits if you find using an app easier to use than a text editor.
I recommend keeping a backup of your original build.prop for easy restoration.

It works, but again buttons is too big and change ro.sf.lcd_density low than 440 will be too small, and also I need change just screen buttons, other staff looks nice for me with ro.sf.lcd_density 480.
Please, tell step by step how to change it.
Also, do you know how to disable light of sensor buttons? (very annoying)

The only way I can tell to just shrink the navigation bar is to edit the framework-res.apk. From my research, you have to decompile the apk, edit the navigation bar field in dimens.xml, and recompile the apk. I tried that but ended up having to restore my phone after I got a bunch of force closes.
It's obviously a bit more complex than what I just mentioned so I'll just have to mess around with it more before I know how to do it.
If anyone else has experience editing framework-res any help you could offer would be awesome.

No way to do it without Cyanogen?
Anyone? Also there is no vibration pressing the back and home keys on the navbar. Reading the SIII and Note forums, I believe this is due to the lack of vibration support in kernel. Can anyone confirm?

I have tried adding that qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 on build.prop but the soft keys dont come and on every press the systemUI stopping sign comes. Anything else I can do to avoid this. tried it with apex, nova and next launcher. Using omega ROM 14.1

"ro.sf.lcd_density" isn't present over here....
But I added that line at the end of all lines in my build.prop ... Setting it at 400-480 gave me very big icons .. 300 gives me the original size of icons.. So I set it at 260.. Now it's giving me a Tablet like look...
And that all above is fine..
But after changing the values.. How is it possible that it changed all my default icons of System Apps...?? Even though those icons were not present in those APKs...?? :what::what:
And yes.. Talking abt NavBar .. Its smaller and much SPACED... Thnkx fo that...
And if u want to ENABLE or DISABLE Light of Hardware buttons here's the link to that APK..
https://www.dropbox.com/s/5qhpbuh5syvl39z/Capacitive.apk
Just download it.. And there are options...

does anyone know if this can be implemented with tasker?
Sorry, this is a little off topic but:
I keep accidentally pressing the hardware navigation keys when typing, particularly when i am in a rush. Is there any way that this method can be used with tasker or any similar app to disable the buttons when the keyboard is in use?
Thank you .. finally I found the solution for my problem ( menu key stop working ).

Changing Softkeys

Hi All
i recently decided to install and try out MIUI on my Nexus 5. So far im liking it but the only thing that irks me out is the softkeys
Currently MIUI has the 4 softkeys at the bottom (Menu, Back, Home, Opened Apps) and i want to change the softkeys so that they resemble the ones found in AOSP/Stock Android
So
1) How would i be able to invert the home and opened apps softkey
2) How do i remove the menu button
3) How do i increase the transparency of the softkey bar
I never used MIUI but it seems you need WSM tools to be able to use Xposed framework.
Then install XBlasttools, Softkey Navbar and so on... You can also remap the buttons through Gravitybox I think.
More details here.

[Q] Remapping soft keys

Right now, the soft keys on the Z3 do 'Back', 'Home' and 'Recent apps'. With my previous phone being a Galaxy S2, this is a major annoyance for me. I want my beloved menu button back . So my question is: can I remap the 'Recent apps' button to instead show the menu? I've tried some solutions like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818499, but this doesn't seem to allow customization of the soft keys I want to change. Is there anything out there that lets me do this, preferably without directly modifying the layout file? I have root so that's not an issue.
Thanks in advance

that s inside firmware itself
you can root ur device and install custom recovery to install Custom ROM like CyanogenMod
there s option for complete customization of soft-keys.

Except no roms are ready for xperia Z3 yet. Also might want to try Carbon Rom if you really liked the navigation button customization. They do a better job than CM, and have more options.

Yeah, that's kind of the issue for now: the lack of ROMs. Could this be done through Xposed or something similar was well?

u should check if Xposed module have access to SystemUI
(i don know about that module a lot)
Root and xposed will work
There is a module for remapping keys and one for adding a permanent menu key

Just give it some time. Lollipop and Xperia Z3 hit the shelves around the same time, but DEVs are more interested in getting their ROMs working based on lollipop, instead of getting a custom rom based on an old OS working for a new phone.

softkeyz
therd is an app called softkeyz which is paid and requires root but you can customise everything and by everything i mean that you can customise the function of the buttons and their color

coming from a Note1 i have exactly the same question. sounds like we just wait for Lollipop and learn to love back-key on the left side (perhaps that's more intuitive anyway). i still wish there was a way to generate a menu-keypress though, like a combo? a long press?
i often feel like theres a menu there, but no way to see it. is it always true that the 3 vertical dots will appear somewhere (sometimes top, sometimes bottom. grrr!) in this menu-key-less interface?
First thing I did after root... Install Xposed framework then download/install the GravityBox(KK) module. In the GravityBox settings, go to Navigation Bar Tweaks. Enable the master switch, then check the box to "always show menu key".
This will enable your menu key and still keep your recent apps key. You can also swap the recent and back button (if your used to that type of layout). And if you want even more then you can do like I do...
(in the Navigation Key Actions menu, not in Navigation Bar Tweaks)
*shrink the nav bar to 75% height
*long press back to close foreground app
*long press home to enable/disabled screen rotation
*double tap home to show a custom app launcher menu (put your fav apps n here)
*double tap back to switch to last open app
*long press menu to enable/disable flashlight
(this is just my setup, each keys long press and double-tap have multiple options to choose from)
With gravity box you can do a whole lot. You can change your battery icon to a different one but be sure to go into your phone "settings>personalization>status bar icons" and uncheck battery. If not, then when you restart you will have 2 battery icons (stock & gbox battery) in your status bar. Also, you can turn your status bar into a brighteness control, which comes in very handy, or enable song skipping by long pressing the volume keys (when the screen is off).
Just check everything out in gravity box, it has soo much to offer.

I just did this with my Xperia Z3. Get root (note there's locked bl root available). Then install xposed framework. Then get Xperia / AOSP NavBar module from Xposed Installer.

Hardware and software keys

I know it may be stupid but I want to test something. So is it possible to get hardware and on screen buttons working at the same time on rom like cyanogenmod 12.1 where is no option in settings to choose that? I found some old forum thread where was told to edit build.prop file but I tried it and I got only lights on hardware keys but buttons doesnt work.
Well... It can, if you are using blisspop rom...
But why you want to turn both on ?
First, enable hardware keys through settings. Then with a root explorer/file manager, edit the file system/build.prop by adding "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" at the bottom.
Have you tested this? If I remember right, this is the way to get those lights working but not buttons.

Enable On Screen Navigation Buttons

I've searched and searched... Is there anyway to enable the onscreen navigation keys (Navbar) on rooted nougat TW ROMs?
edit:
Adding the following to build.prop does work (despite the many who have stated that it does not).
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
