Hello everyone.
I've been using CM for a while and I am aware of one bug which annoys me the most. When I try to watch streamed content in e.g. google chrome, MX player (hardware decoding) video stops playing after some time (10-90sec), then after few more seconds it starts playing sound but image remains frozen. I've already tried disabling NuPlayer, updating WebView, full wipe, re-flashing, using nightlies, but unfortunately nothing works. This bug appears on CM 12s and also on every nightly builds. It seems like a problem with buffer, because when video starts playing sound (with frozen image) video timer moves back few minutes/seconds.
It doesn't happen when using software decoding e.g. MX Player S/W, VLC or youtube app.
Is there any way to fix it?

Thanks in advance for response.
No fix as of yet. This is the reason why I'm back on CM11s. I can't take this bug anymore. I sure as hell hope @cyanogen aren't proud of this update.

I don't have an issue streaming any kind of content using Google Chrome, Lightning Browser etc. If there is an app that does behave funky, its Instagram. After two loops, it begins to stutter and freeze etc. This bug has been there since Kit Kat however

Try to watch 1080p or 720p video in chrome that is longer than 3 minutes, you'll see what I'm talking about.
---
If there's no fix yet, maybe there's some way to force other apps to use e.g. MX player/VLC for streamed content?

I streamed skynews hd for about 25 minutes without issues
Does it with me, but Chrome only. I used Firefox and the long loading times aren't there.

Because Firefox uses there own built-in video. Chrome isn't the issue, its CM12 in general. I'm back on CM11s because of this crap and videos work perfectly in chrome now.

This bug is driving me crazy.. Is there any rom that doesn't have this problem?
Yep, stock cm11s is fine. And anything on lollipop that's not built from CM sources seems to work fine like Oxygen for example. Oh and the 12.1 nightlies have it, but much more usable than CMOS12 junk

I would like to have android 5.x because I've got used to it already, also I've heard that OxygenOS is even worse.
Here's the list of missing features and the list of bugs in OxygenOS: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/oxygen-os-issues-thread.289981/
The question is if there's some other ROM based on Lollipop except the OxygenOS and based on CM12.
P.S. I really hate myself for deleting CM11s backup..
I used oxygen for a bit and actually thought it was excellent. No video playback bug I found there. The only reason why I can't stick with oxygen is 1. No privacy guard and 2. Camera sucks with no raw capture. Otherwise it was great.
CM12 itself is great, but the video playback bug for me is a nasty deal-breaker. CM12.1 nightlies (currently using the latest) are fantastic and the video playback bug is there but not nearly as bad as CM12. I can deal with it on nightlies.
CM11s I think is pretty much just perfect all round rom. Everything for me work as it should. I bounce between 11s and nightlies.
That's all I can offer you for help man.

Mine plays fine just watched a few videos in HQ on cellular data, and tried on wi-fi no issues here...
using ultimate 2.2 rom
This really pisses me off. I watch YouTube like all the time. I have a G2 and that has no problems.
G2x just has issues and this YouTube debacle is like the final insult. Browser has stopped forced close on 174 but was forced to stop browser. Its is only two.issues affecting cm 2.3.7
Switched back to nightlies
also Netflix stopped working so went to a backup. No video just audio
miui is a cyan base rom
and the browser version works ok but the youtube app is giving loading issues
so y u just open youtube from browser?easy and same as youtube app
or u can uncheck option that force u to use mobile site
so u can open youtube as desktop site
much better really couse u have all feature of desktop site
full screen
like comments while watching
playlist etc

Try using the latest cm nightly.
it's the rom.... i also had the issue and i still do even with EB 2.3.5 and as well as the cm7 stabled Gb version.... not only with the youtube app but on some of the websites had flash issues where videos were just green lines. so i switched back to EB 2.3.3 stock Gb version. Devs are working as to finding out the problem but still no luck.
I tried the latest nightly 174 and loaded videos instantly this morning.
Will keep trying the Nightly ROMs. Will report back if I encounter the issue again.
Prefer the Youtube app, just faster.
Youtube and G2X usb mount
I am having these two issues first I noticed that phone is no more recognized by windows as usb and now this youtube issue of CM stable 7.1 , I was really liking this CM. If someone is there reading these and can help please help.
thanks
glad to know its not just me and more about the problem
i really hope this gets fixed soon but was it ever stated as an issue before so others could become more aware and hopefully put it in more demand for a fix or something?
Youtube Slow issue found
What I did I uninstalled both adobe flash player and youtube app and using dolphin web browser for youtube. I tried all those videos again through dolphin and got the instant response on my almost 2mega Byte connection. So, I guess I have to live without youtube app.

Well I recently switched from LG Stock Rom to CM7.1 stable on my P990, and have the same issue. I'm glad that its not just me having slow loading of YouTube videos on the phone. Thanks for sharing the information that the nightly build of CM might help solve the issue. How many others have been successful with that build?
I can confirm that recent nightly builds are no longer causing slow loading of videos in YouTube app. I installed CM7.1 #204
I'm happy

Everything is stock on my phone and I'm running YouTube 5.2.27 with the new KitKat OS. I'm experiencing a bit of stutter/jitter when playing videos on YouTube in both low and high quality. The motion of the video isn't quite fluid. When playing the same vids through Freedi YT player or through the browser, I don' t see this issue at all but I love watching vids on the app the most, but can't stand the stutter.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issues? Sorry if this has been answered, I just couldn't find anything about it asides from the thread above me.
Having the same trouble, any solutions?

Are you running on 3G, LTE, Wifi? and it has to do with the version of youtube. Currently unnoticed with Franco kernel but may have somthing to do with the release build. Try clearing data/cache to see if that works. If not, uninstall the updates to factory to see if problem persists since that version. Reinstall again and try that as well.

Does anyone notice this;
(I've also tested this with my friends OnePlus One, manufacturers dates are about 1 month apart)
With instagram videos, vine videos, gallery videos, etc.. When I play them and then pause, I notice when I play it again it lags and the audio countinues to play but the video just stops unless I keep playing/pausing back and forth till the video resumes again. Don't know what this is buts its really annoying. Googled the answer for this and it seems no one has this issue.. I've tried several roms including CM11s gives me the same issue. Any solution or fix?
I think it has to do more with the app loading the video than the phone itself. I don't have issues playing videos in my gallery, but on Instagram and Vine, even Snapchat sometime lag.

Yes. When I play any types of videos and pause them I get a lag (video frozen but audio countinues to play) when I press play again. Sometimes it will lag for 2-3s then continue to play.
Wipe the cache on the gallery, vine, and instagram.
You PM'd me about this earlier. I don't use Instagram, Vine, or Gallery Videos (I use Gallery but I don't notice any lag in videos, I rarely ever use it though).
Some suggestions,
- Have you tried? http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/themes-apps/mod-smooth-scrolling-mod-mahdi-rom-t2840934
- Have you tried any custom kernels? If so, which ones?
- Are these fresh installations of Vine/Instagram/etc? Or are they backups from prior phones. If they're not fresh installations, try @Nexii's tip. If it continues to proceed, reinstall the app.

Same thing happens to me. Happens mainly on Instagram.
Like I might replay a video and the beginning of the video freezes but the audio continues to play. It has done this one every ROM I've used on the OnePlus One. May be hardware related.

I'm starting to believe that too as my other friend is not affected by this.
It's not hardware. Hardware wouldn't make your videos lag. It's software and is caused by your set up. Take a video of the lag if you must demonstrate it.

Update;
I flashed the XNPH25R and went on with the phone, the phone did not have any of that absurd lag..
After flashing the next update in sequence, XNPH30O, the lag exists. Maybe related to the firmware updating from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4
Videos play fine when on the phone through Video Player.
If I load Google Photos, play a video there, the playback is crazy jerky. Same video on google photos app on iOS does not do it.
Can't recall having the problem on OxygenOS but was wondering if anyone else had this issue before going back to O2 (1.01 broke touchscreen for me)
Thanks
Simpler request:
Could someone running 12.1 tell me if video is choppy in google photos please? Wish to see if the problem is on my end or an issue with Google Photos.
Many thanks!
Wiped, re-flashed Oxygen OS 1.0 (not 1.01), still same problem with Google Photos video playback. Choppy. The same videos are not choppy on iOS nor on desktop website (in chrome).
Perhaps a bug with Google Photos app?
I have this problem too. I hadn't tried the stock gallery app until I saw this post. It worked fine.
I wonder is its just oneplus related or dies it occur on other phones too?

Searching the web, saw that many users have issue on nexus devices (6 and 10). Seems like the latest versions of Google Photos are to blame. Haven't tried uninstalling current ver and installing old one through apkmirror yet to confirm.
I can confirm this issue.
OPO COS12.1, Google photos last version (1.4.).
Had the same problem on COS12.
When I revert photos app to version 1.0.1 the video plays fine.
Definitely photos app problem.
I will stick to 1.0.1 version of the app until there is an improvement in the app itself.
Ever since I updated to Android 10 I've been having issues with video Playback on streaming services such as Netflix, Google Play Movies and YouTube TV! The phone plays just fine then few hours later it starts frame skipping /stutter and the image freezes! This also applies to offline playback!
The latest update (55.1.A.3.49) didn't fix the issue! Anybody is experiencing this on their device?
Tested on Customized US, Customized UK and Customized HK firmware
I get this when using prime video.
On uk vodafone network software
Only way to fix it is to reboot the phone

Yeah it works fine after reboot for few hours then it craps out again! It's a big glitch in Android 10 update that needs to be fixed! And this phone was advertised for best in class media playback!
At least I know it's not just my phone!
I get problems when my wifi isn't good and it switches between mobile data or wifi. I usually get the program to download first now to prevent this from happening but pretty sure its a poor wifi signal.

I just tried that, unfortunately it did not fix the stuttering issue on Netflix and YouTube TV
I found out that it only seems to affect DRM content, which is bizarre. Hopefully this is sorted at somepoint because it's one of the major selling points of the phone (including the X1)

Some progress is better than none I suppose.
Prime Video seems to be fixed, I think I saw like one dropped frame but the video and audio doesn't constantly stutter which is amazing.
Play Movies/YT Movies is worthless, don't even bother lol.
Side note: video recording has had improvements too, as the camera version has been bumped up and there's some under-the-hood changes.
