[Q] How do I get rid of SW-update notification ? - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since I read about a lot of problems with the Lollipop-Update on the Edge I - for the time being - do not want to update. My Problem:
I forgot to switch off the automatic update function on my Edge and now it downloaded the Lollipop-update. I marked the "install later" - option but now it constantly reminds me when I switch it on after some time at idle and the Update-notification cannot be cleared in the status-bar.
Question: does anybody know how to get rid of this ? My Edge is NOT rooted (nor will I), I just wish to have it like it is with KitKat since it is my main work-tool and I have NO SECOND to spend to fiddle around with problems after an update. It works perfect for me as it is ..........................

This worked for me. Still running kit Kat without prompting to update.

Take these people's "issues " with a grain of salt. 99.9% of people's issues are users error. Period. Update is running absolutely awesome. Battery is the same as it was on kk, it's smoother, looks better, and just overall improved. End of story.

Can second that. Most issues like overheating, battery drain turned out to be due to the system indexing the files, and running all sorts of stuff in the background. All got sorted out by itself in a day or so.
Anyway, you might try clearing the cache from recovery.
Else, only option I know of is what has been posted above already.

Data problems related to S2U2??

This may be nonsense but I'm beginning to get a suspicion about S2U2 potentially being the cause of data connectivity issues for me.
I'm hoping I'm wrong because it's such a great program and I've used it on my last couple of phones.
Basically when I had my Touch HD, I had to reboot it pretty much daily if I wanted my data connection to work, otherwise I would get connectivity problems, but they would always be solved by a reboot.
I never figured out why this was, even though it was mega annoying. In the end I installed a cab to do a scheduled reset each night and it helped quite a bit.
Since I got my HD2 it has behaved perfectly as far as data is concerned and has not had a single connection fail with use every day for emails & browsing, UNTIL I installed S2U2 yesterday late afternoon, then last night it failed to connect. Yes you've guessed it, a reboot solved it.
I know that's hardly conclusive and I'm hoping it's not the case as I love using this program as an unlock screen, but I was wondering if anyone else has had any problems like this?
I was wondering if it was somehow also linked to my carrier too. The reason for this is that my friend also had a Touch HD and used S2U2 and never had this problem but he uses a different phone company. He now also has the HD2, and has installed S2U2 again and is fine, but mine is acting up, so it seems weird that it happens to both my phones but neither of his....
I know I could remove it to see if the problem goes away but programs sometimes leave bits behind when you uninstall.
Cheers
Jim
I get problems either daily or bi-daily where I have to reboot my HD2 to get my data connection to work again, (its connected but doesn't work). Every time its solved by a reboot.
I dont have S2U2 installed. If you find the reason behind the issue let me know as I am about to start doing a search into it.
Hmmm, maybe it's just coincidence then. But why would it have worked perfectly up to that point though, that's the thing that makes me wonder.
Mine also appears to be fine in terms of still displaying the GPRS signal/sign, but trying to retrieve emails or open the browser etc gives an error. It's maddening, whatever causes it!
Same thing again this morning when I told the phone to get my emails - connection failed. Worked fine after a reboot.
I'll see what happens tomorrow. If it does it again then I'm going to uninstall S2U2 and see what happens from then onwards. If it doesn't fix it then I guess it'll be a hard reset on the cards....
Back to original HD2 screen lock from 2SUS
Dear all,
Can tell how to change back to original lock after installed disable the screen lock? I don't like 2SUS needed so long to slide...
Just uninstall it, then press your windows button and hit the lock softkey.
I've removed it myself tonight even though I'm a long term S2U2 fan.
Since installing it a few days ago I've had even worse problems with ghost unlocks than before.
Previously the only issue was accidentally cutting calls off, but with S2U2 in use (standard lock disabled) I had a text from a friend on Friday asking if I was drunk. Somehow, whilst locked in my pocket it unlocked and sent a gibberish sms!
Then today, it also somehow unlocked in my pocket and dialled my mum!
I'm just glad I wasn't playing Call of Duty when it happened or she would have just heard "Sh1t!!! You cheating f***!!! WTF??? You..... FFS!!!!" etc
But seriously - I love S2U2 from previous winmo phones but it's made my HD2 worse so I've uninstalled it tonight sadly.
Isn't there a working fix for these bastard hard buttons yet? I LOVE this phone but the bloody hard keys are ruining it.
Hi Cret,
Thank you so much for your response. I did remove 2SUS and selected the Screen Lock from pressing the Power buttom but it doesn't auto lock each time...
Can you tell what to do such change Registry or I need to restore the original setting?
Thank you, dude.

he wanted it back... not disable...
Go to HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd and change DeviceLockWhenSuspend to 1
This should re-enable the lock...
Thank you very much!
I will try to see it works on my HD2.
Mine was the same ie the lock would not return.
I already had BSB tweaks installed which had a toggle for the lock though, so I just activated that.

Hi, did uninstalling S2U2 help on the connection failures?
Well, I only removed it last night but so far yes. I have not had to reboot the phone this morning and the data is working flawlessly.
Also - and this is a biggie! The battery life on the phone is MILES better without S2U2.
Normally the phone would be down to about 70% by lunchtime without even doing anything and it's still on 96% now - that's a massive improvement!
However, one thing has occurred to me as a possible cause of these issues - I've realised I was using a very old version of the program - v 1.5.
I think I'll try the latest one - 2.22 and have a look through the changelogs to see if there's anything mentioned in there along these lines.

Here's two fixes right away in the next version relating to battery use:
- fixed the v1.50 issue of occasionally high CPU usage during idle.
- save more power than the old version when the device is sleeping.
v1.6
- removed option "Power Save" as the power leak problem is found & fixed.
I can't really be arsed reading through the rest of it but it's obvious there have been power issues addressed by subsequent versions so I'll try the latest and see how it goes.

Rogers Android Froyo 2.2 bugs

Figured perhaps a bug thread for the Rogers 2.2 update may be in order?
Not sure if this is a bug or not, but it does seem a bit odd. The lock screen usually has the text "swipe screen to unlock" or something to that nature (the part with the <<< and >>>) - mine had it to begin with in 2.2, however now it has dissapeared and I just see the little lock icon saying the phone is locked. Is there any way to get it back or is this a 2.2 "feature" so you see more of your background?
The 2nd problem I noticed I have already started a thread on (and no replies ) - it deals with contact linking and Facebook. Seems something is whacky there too possibly. The thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907088

Definitely a feature. I love the clearer lock screen.
Bug: Haptic feedback vibration is very low system wide (not including soft keys).
Bug: Voice Dialer (Voice Dialler) is misspelled in the App Drawer.
Bug: Going to Settings > Display > Font Style causes a crash.
All I remember so far but there has been several.

Confirmed feature of Froyo, or is this a Rogers/Samsung specific feature? Just wondering because it WAS showing up for a few lock screens right after the upgrade, then eventually stopped showing up - reboot/battery reset didn't get it back... haven't tried a factory reset yet to see if that fixes it (if it's broke).

No problems here - did you have it set to a custom/non default font when upgrading? I had mine on default (I prefer that to any other font) and have no issues changing fonts.
I've had some issues with wifi losing it's internet / market connection after wake up sometimes. shows still connected, but no network access. i have to turn wifi off, then back on occasionally.

Go to Settings -> Wireless and network -> Wi-Fi settings. From this screen, hit your menu key and select Advanced and try changing your Wi-Fi sleep policy to Never... perhaps it's set to "When screen turns off" causing you to lose Wi-Fi whenever you lock your phone?
Oh, another bug possibly...
Go to Camera app and open Settings. Open the wrench tab and go to the 2nd page. Click the Update button beside Firmware update. Either of the next two menu choices ("Check version by network" or "Firmware update") seem to freeze the phone (power off required). Doesn't seem to happen all the time, but my first time trying to get the update to do something caused the phone to lock up in to camera mode.
Also, the "It will occur additional fee." message is quite fun... no idea what fees I will incur, or for what reason (and I won't even get in to the grammar issues).

Well it can't be a Froyo feature because no other manufactures use the same lock screen as they do. So it's a Samsung feature brought on by Froyo. Simply, it can't be a bug.

Yeah, I had to it some other font besides the default font...guess I'm screwed now? Bugs like these make me more anxious to get real Froyo.

Its much faster and smoother than 2.1 stock was for me. Did you set it up fresh? Older settings can cause issues.
you guys have this issue? you may not even know it until you try to use mass storage mode. I use iSyncr (lets me use smart playlists based on ratings) so I need mass storage mode.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907854
My wife and I (each have a Captivate) have had none of the bugs you guys have mentioned.
All we have experienced is a faster phone and WAY better battery life.
The only thing that upset me is that the update deleted my Ocean Wave livewallpaper, but I just redownloaded it.
Did some of you guys experiencing bugs ever run a custom ROM? I am thinking maybe these issues might be because you did...
Re: Haptic Feedback.
I've noticed it too, it's much weaker than before.
I could have sworn that I saw the option to turn up the intensity before, but can't find it now.
I want to update, but all these bugs are not very comforting

Go for it..I installed it and so far the improvements have been great over 2.1
Battery life is much improved, its faster than stock 2.1 (and after applying Ryan's OCLF...its incredibly responsive)
If you do have a lagfix installed prior to upgrading you should uninstall that first. Thats what I did and didn't have much problems. my one issue with Swype was fixed by clearing the cache.

I gave it a go on your recommendation. Updated with no issues, now to actually try using it...
Has anyone rooted after applying 2.2? If so, what did you use?
I've been having issues turning on WiFi on my phone ever since I installed the update.
I accidentally clicked Airplane mode on my phone this morning, now my phone has been trying to turn the WiFi back on for about 5 mins....
As for battery life, my phone the first few days after installing Froyo seemed great, but now it doesn't really seem as good? No idea why....
And I've noticed a bit of lag at times while navigating on my phone.
Using LauncherPro Plus as my home screen, haven't rooted or installed any roms or anything.
I have noticed that when you turn the phone on from when it is off, if you don't wait for the wallpaper to display before swiping your phone on, the phone will stall. Mine stalled for about 5 minutes before it responded again.
I'm having a couple of small issues:
1) I can't get the GPS to look position. It just displays "Waiting for Location" and sits there.
2) OCLG - I got about 1000 on quadrant score. It doesn't seem laggy but I wanted to apply this lagfix to see if it can be better. I tried runnig the first option in the menu (z4 rooting), and it tries to launch either a page or the market (not sure which) but says "Page Not Found", but when you close it and press back, it says the root was successful, but all the other options are still "unavailable" so I can't apply the lagfix. There's a second method in the menu to do a root and that one fails as well, so I'm not sure how to get this working.
3) Camera - I got the same problem as a previous poster for the firmware update where it says "fees will occur" then when I click "yes", it tries to launch a page/market (again not sure) and says "Page Not Found".
4) Rooting - not sure how to root because the previous method of putting my update.zip and doing it through the recovery menu fails.
Any help is appreciated.
I was running rooted lagfixed stock Rogers 2.1 before. Removed lagfix first and did a factory reset before updating to 2.2 through Kies.
After updating to 2.2 I re-rooted and lagfixed with no issue.
Things bugs I have noticed on my phone:
- Camera a few times had started up with a black screen only with usual camera options but it's as if it does not see anything from the lens (had done camera fw update on it. You can download it from Samsung Apps app)
- When viewing "Contacts" can't press Back button to exit it so I just press Home button. Small bug
- can't set up smtp outbound email settings on stock email app. Keep getting it can't connect with server even when manually inputting correct settings.
- Battery undetermined as i've been playing with GPS a lot testing it so it drains pretty quick.
- GPS - Had no problems with 2.1 (using GPS + "Use wireless networks") but it's been horrible on 2.2. Locks ok when stationary, fluctuating between 5-9 satellite locks (used lbstestmode to check) but when you are moving or when using it for Navigation, it will be ok for a short bit then would eventually start bouncing all over the place or start getting weak/lost locks. Was using it on the hwy one time and it would suddenly tell me to do a u-turn because it thought I was on a side road. (condition was clear and phone was by windshield).
What it did fix for me:
- Opening Gallery before would sometimes lock up the phone requiring battery pull in 2.1. Fixed for me with 2.2
- Running latest updated Maps would sometimes lock up the phone requiring battery pull in 2.1. Fixed for me with 2.2 but still somewhat useless because of issue mentioned previously.
I can live with all the bugs except for the abismal gps.

mm-qcamera-daemon on 4.4.4

I had this on 4.4.2 but 4.4.3 fixed it. I'm on 4.4.4 now and have been since it came out, but all of a sudden last week, mm-qcamera-daemon came back and I'm not alone.
With L just around the corner, I doubt there will be any fix for this from Google, so what's the best way of finding out which app is keeping this service alive?
P.S. I have neither Skype, Instagram, nor Snapchat installed - and never have done - so it's not them.
Did you have a camera app running in the background? ie. minimized it without swiping it away.
Nah, nothing like that. I'll even get it when I boot my phone, open no apps at all, and charge to 100% before unplugging from the charger - this action seems to be the cause of the daemon, like some of the other users on that issue report are saying. Never mind, I guess I'll just wait it out until L.
I have never had this problem on my nexus 5 until today (I bought the Nexus 5 on day one)!
This process is draining all my battery!!
The only app I installed in the past week is "Google Opinion Rewards" which was installed 6 hours ago.
Please help if you find a solution
UPDATE 1: I just noticed, via CPU-Z, that all 4 cores are continuously active at high frequency and the phone is overheating
UPDATE 2: Problem is still there even after removing "Google Opinion Rewards"
Just reflash the stock firmware and see if it continues.
Best thing to do with any issue that a solution can't be found for easily. ?

the camera daemon is supposed to appear. its not supposed to stay around, draining battery. especially at 100%, you will see it, as the phone uses it a little bit, and you havent used the phone at all. it will show up. the question is, if you dont use the camera at all, and it appears in your battery stats, after a full cycle of use, how much battery does it take? chances are that by the end of your battery cycle, it wont even be in your battery stats.

I actually fixed it now by flashing the system image and restoring all my apps via Titanium Backup, but I swear I'd never even open Camera for it to occur, and I don't have any third party camera apps. It would constantly be active without opening any camera apps at all.
edit- also Google have restated that they're looking into this bug and have marked it urgent, so anyone else getting it - don't panic too much, it's most likely not a problem you've caused.
I suspect the Hangouts/Hangouts dialer. I updated the app few days ago (no other installs), today was the first time that I got this issue (got my Nexus in February). Also first time since updating I used the camera, followed by battery drain/ daemon/ "failed to connect camera" etc.
I think its because of android wear
With android wear u can access the camera, hence u will be seeing the camera drain for sure. i unpaired my watch for few days and i didnt have this problem till now
I had this problema today morning, my android version is 4.4.4, In my case I used yesterday the camera to attach a photo inside the facebook messenger, maybe this buggy app make this mess in my case.
I reboot and waiting for the results
Same here
Everything was ok from 4.4.2 till 4.4.4. But suddenly week ago discovered mm-qcamera-daemon issue, tried many things without success. I am using phone in safe mode (facepalm).
Waiting official Android L or fix from google.
I got the same issue now!
Started today, what the hell?
Some apps will keep the camera wakelocks going. Freeze anything that can possibly use the camera and see what happens.
Or just clean flash stock, and see if its OK. If so... Install a handful of apps per day.... Then if it goes nuts you know it's an app you've just installed.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=70755#c171
I think i had this fixed. Ihave a rooted nexus 5 stock rom. Installed greenify, pirchased the donate version and had the camera app greenified. No more mm-qcamera-daemon showing up on my battery stats. No more "cannot connect to camera" issues. (So far it's been 2days without it.
camera block app
i see this issue occurs when i use skype or any camera related app in my grand 2 4.4.2 / only way i keep the issue at bay is use camera block app.. which i keep it turned on when i am not really using the camera.
this seem to keep this daemon under control and not drain my battery .

Update QF3 available for sprint 7/5/17

new update available. says "security , new device features " , its the android june security patch and possibly a new feature
If your using the no root hotspot it still works through update!!
It installs weird too after rebooting it restarts then the screen will black out and say "installing applications"
then it will say software is custom until the update notification at the top stops. even though it already popped up a toast that said successfully upgraded yet that still has to fill up (in the notification) then it all goes to normal seems smoother than ever
I am applying it right now, will follow up if I run across any issues.

All I know is the last update(not this one) broke my phone, My system app crashed randomly, vibration would continue to vibrate after calls were answered, very slow response and frequent random resets. Notifications would either not appear or not disappear. One time I lost all my home screen apps. The problems were so severe I decided to upgrade to the S8.
After this update my phone runs like new.... too bad I already decided to buy the new S8.... although my 'excuse' for needing it apparently has been fixed by this update, Now I just want the S8.

Has anyone taken the Pie Update?

Has anyone taken the Pie update? I am curious if there are any problems/bugs, or if everything is running smoothly. My wife mentioned she is getting the update notification - I said I would look into it before she accepts but so far have found nothing about it.
Thanks!
Yes. Dont do it. Since updating to pie it kills background apps. So whatsapp messages dont come through unless you open the app.

There's no setting to select what gets killed or not? Or to turn off the feature for that matter?
Yes, I update the Nokia 3.1 TA-1057 model to Android pie. It is working really well. The battery life has increased exponentially with adaptive battery enabled. Battery used to drop >10% overnight on standby. It drops about 1 or 2% now. Even during the day the phone hardly losses any charge. Haven't come across any issues with the pie update. Phone call, texts, navigation and camera all work really well. Camera has done added features with the update. I've been very impressed that the software has made such a dramatic change to the phone.
I'd suggest you don't update. As #2 mentioned, it stops background processes in the name of Battery. Another issue my colleague and I have is an SD Card Error. The SD Card is unable to be written to via the phone, but works perfectly when put into a PC. A9 also adds a google search bar at the bottom of the stock home screen which takes up a bit of real-estate but is easy to get used to.
I wouldn't recommend it, but i'm pretty sure that if you don't update, you will not get security updates.
