Hello, everyone. A few days ago, I hard-bricked my Galaxy S3 running 4.4.2. I finally got the class 10 SD card and got it working after many tries. My question now is, what is my phone restricted to? Should I be paranoid about it running out of battery or turning it off? Is it safe to restore the device (I don't really want to, but if I must...). The problem obviously started because ex-unlock screwed up my bootloader. Is there any damage left that needs fixing? Thanks, guys!

First of all, nice job un-bricking your phone! You should, if you haven't already, Odin the stock OTA 4.4.2 update MD5. After you've done that, you don't need to worry about rebooting your phone or running out of battery. You can then use your SD card normally, or keep it as a backup in case you hard brick your phone again. With a locked bootloader, you cannot install custom roms or recoveries. You also cannot use any current tool to try and unlock the bootloader. Every tool as of July 29, 2014, will fail and probably hard brick your device. You can still root your phone with Towelroot, that's how I got my phone rooted and it's right as rain. You can also remove carrier bloatware/system apps, use Xposed modules, and do all the other cool things you can do with a rooted device other than installing a custom ROM/Recovery.

Thanks! Do I have to worry about it running out of battery/turning off right now? I have a mac, so if necessary, I'll use Odin in Virtualbox. Thanks again!

If you haven't removed your recovery MicroSD from your phone, you should be fine to reboot/run out of juice.

Alright, so I turned off my phone to test and it booted up normally, so I don't think I need to worry about that. I'm borrowing a friend's PC and getting Odin set up.
All right! I'm backing up all my apps to an OTG drive and am about to go for Odin. Pretty nervous haha.

I don't believe so. It will probably remove your root though, so you'll probably need to re-root after you Odin the stock OTA.

Good to know! One more thing. My phone will only enter download mode briefly and then restart immediately after into regular mode. So it won't let me go into download mode. If I just reset my phone using the factory reset, will it have the same effect as flashing the exact same rom with Odin?
Hello, I have rooted my galaxy s6 international version and the only thing I am using is some CSC (?) features like alphabetacilly sorting the app drawer, adblocker and whatsmapp. Actually, I kind of regret it, I want back my factory galaxy s6, warranty, clean rom, is there any way to get like a new device? Installing the stock rom I had will fix it?
Now I see more problems with the s6 like fingerprint sensor isn't working, I'm so afraid without the warranty, don't you?
The burned eFuse-Chip is in fact a hardware damage caused by rooting from the user --> no more warranty by Samsung! You can check that in several reports online, in magazins and even at Samsung

Saw this in the other thread located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/penalties-flashing-rooting-t3097277
So yeah you can never restore original, never...You can only flash stock firmware.
I did root my Galaxy S6, at first I was very disapointed that I did that, but now I'm thinking that sooner or later I would still have done the same thing, because without root your phone is kind of limited to some things, root gives you more power over the phone so you can control it how you like.
Edit: Fingerprint scanner works fine for me, for you it's probably software related issue, that could be solved by flashing other firmwares.

Im curious if thats the same case with rooting with PingPong root. It doesnt trigger KNOX so can it also mean that the efuse doesnt get triggered?

I'm not sure, but it may save the Efuse-chip by rooting with PingPong. It's a shame that I didn't knew about it before rooting...

Well we can hope that it doesn't! Yeah mate it sucks ive been wanting to root ever since the SGS6 released but been torned incase I want to return to completly stock so this is a nice choice. But as you said yourself, you would have eventually rooted sooner or later and I don't think you will miss out on anything important

Install Samsung Smart Switch and use it to make a backup of your things and then use the recovery option in the program. It will download the right firmware for you and re-install your phone to fabric settings.

And Zozo,
Its just to transfer files from my previous device to my current device. .

If you press the "More" button up to the right there's an option called "Emergency software recovery initialisation". There you can re-install your whole phone to completely factory settings
It will not untrip your KNOX if you rooted the phone in any other way than with PingPong Root, that is not possible for the time being.

Safe root, flash TWRP/CWM with PC ODIN and then from there install SuperSU. There, your rooted, that'll be $30...
I don't believe any method tried wouldn't trip KNOX...

If they call it a safe root , charge 30 bucks and trip knox its .. well ... a "slight" rip off.

Depends on your definition of safe... If the phone still works afterwards it was safe, nothing is said of not tripping KNOX....
First of all hello ^^ ...
so im trying to root my SM-j100FN im looking for a "confirmation" that the "ROOT FOR J100FN BY HOSAM KASHTO" work without any harm... the thing is that i have searched all around the internet for the root , i found some but whenever i scroll to the comments i see people complaining about bricks and stuck on boot logo or some kind of things... so in few words im looking for somebody who can give me the proper root method for the device (maybe a one-click root method or even using odin or similar technique) i have tried the KINGROOT apk but it doesnt seem to work yet
SO THANKS IN ADVANCE hope i will get some help over here :fingers-crossed:
well ill just wait for the answer ^^'
Sent from my SM-J100FN using XDA Free mobile app
Kingo Root
Try out kingo root. It's harmless and convenient.. only few clicks away... just download the app to your pc then it should give you instructions. If it didnt work.. and suggested you to use odin.. press no. Since you want a no harm chance.
.
.
so yeah. If it didnt work. You have no more option then..
well i didnt really say that i wont ever use odin... in fact i would ! if that spesific img file is not harmless.. then i would take the risk and give it a try
btw i have just tried it out but it failled...
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f777/root-j100fn-1969414/
this is the method i was talking about... is it harmless ?
Using odin definitely have a chance of harm. Since I've never had your kind of phone yet, and if you're really gonna try this. Check for what version of your android the root is. And make sure it's the same ver.
There are times that some people mistakenly thought things were same, (4.4.2 let's say, but you didnt know there was Ver07, Ver10)
ohhh i see... i think am gonna give it a shot but first ... knowing that the only file to use with odin is a boot.img ... lets say i have bricked the device can i recover with the original .tar.md5 file from sammobile ? does it contain everything ?
seccefully rooted ^^ thanks for the help anyway

For me, updating my phone via smart switch has also done the trick. It's easier then flashing a rom with Odin, though it only works when there is an update available.

Just install smart switch on your computer: http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/
Then install it to your phone from Google play if you don't have it already.
Next, connect your phone to your computer and that's it. The rest will be done for you by smart switch.

Hi
mate more details.....
Phone model
root procedure you followed
errors you got
can you go into download mode
can you go into recovery
Help! I have the same problem aswell.
Galaxy S7 G930FD. Had root installed (Super SU) via the methods posted here with TWRP etc, all working fine. Decided I wanted to see what the AutoMagicDisk was all about. So.. as per instructions elsewhere... in Super SU, clicked "remove root" (I think thats the option) - was prompted something like restore boot image - said yes, restore recovery - chose no.
Phone then restarted and kept getting stuck at the Samsung S7 logo. Logo would stay on screen for about 5 seconds, then blink, then same thing again.
I can boot back into twrp, tried wiping cash/dalvic, same thing.
Currently trying to do a full backup with TWRP
Please help!
After installing the Root does not work private mode. if i delete root it fix private mode?
