I'm a newbie, semi technical. My wie has a Samsung Galaxy S4 GPE. It automatically updated three times when I turned it on, and left her with Android kitkat. It updated without asking me. Now she has a phone with no access to her SD card. This is a problem. I read elsewhere there is no way to go back to an earlier edition of Android. I have read online that android 5.0 fixes this issue, but I'd like to confirm that before I try and update. I've also read those reviewers articles form Dec 2014 that breathlessly say that Android 5 is here, its here its finally here. Other articles say its not. I can't find anything from Android or Google or Samsung that says anything either way. So I'm totally confused.
I've tried to update the software on the phone but it says the software is up to date. I tried contacting t-mobile, but found nothing. Tmobile customer service said they had nothing to do with the upgrade. I cannot find a way to contact either google or android by email, and samsung did not answer my email. (I found no way to contact them by phone). I did download a zip file to my computer that supposedly has Android 5.0, but I don't know how to make the update. I have not found any instructions anywhere on the internet. Is it safe if I learn how to install it? Is there an official version of Android that will work on this phone? Where does it come from- Samsung, Android or Google?
Did those three updates come from Android, Samsung, Google or her carrier (T-mobile)? Can someone here a) explain to me who pushes android updates to a phone? and b) point me to where I can learn how to update her phone? Or c) tell me if (and) how I can go back to the original android version? (online forums are split on the issues: yes you can, no you can't; do it by a factory reset, no that cannot possibly work, etc etc.
The phone is still under warranty and I don't want to root it. (I don't know how anyway.) It already was unlocked when she bought it.
If anyone here can offer any help, I would appreciate it .
Thanks.
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. If you have a gpe version of the $4 you should be able to flash the firmware using Odin. You can find the stock Rom at Samsung-updates.com or sammobile.com. For further information see this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4. The gpe is the i9505

Hello Xda! I hope you've all had a wonderful christmas eve and an even better new year! I've joined this site after headhunting and reading numerous posts touching different topics regarding one subject and one subject alone: Samsung Galaxy S2.
Now, on to the issue at hand. After tweaking and modifying my firmware, in hopes of getting Cyanogen 7 to run along with the ICS theme for it and having failed, my Sg2 has never been the same, of one simple reason: I haven't found the exact stock firmware that fits my phone. When I write "fits my phone" I actually don't refer to the fact that they aren't working as they indeed are, but no-one that's up to date.
The problem could've been easily fixed if Samsung Kies actually worked with my Windows 7 64-bit, which it doesn't, and please, don't point me in the direction of other posts such as "untick debugging mode", "reinstall Kies", "install those drivers by searching 'this' and 'that' on Google", because trust me, I've tried everything. It worked for a couple of days, but now as I really need it, and want to get out of the hellhole I call "KE2", it doesn't seem to want to help me, at all. "This device is not supported by Kies".
Now, I've visited another thread here on xda, more or less this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and dabbled myself through numerous versions until I finally settled for XWKE2 - Generic NEE and successfully managed it to run on my phone with Odin.
Since my phone is operator locked and I'm paying for it monthly via a Swedish operator known as Telenor I'm not able to update the firmware via About phone -> Software update either.
As I said, Kies isn't able to update my phone to 2.3.5/ KE7 (or whatever version is the newest) and I'm thusly stuck with XWKE2 & 2.33.
The most major problem I have is that I don't know which firmware to download from the topic I provided above, and I'd really like to know which one to actually download in order to have the most up-to-date version.
I'd immensely appreciate any help!

I have been looking for the official firmware of SHV-E150S for the past three days, and I came up empty.
I have tried various methods, such as the KIES hack, without any luck.
In case you are wondering SHV-E150S is the Korean version of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE
The problem with SHV-E150S is that since it's not a popular phone in Korea, Samsung is neglecting its support for the phone.
Thus, there has not been a single firmware update since its release early this year. So I do not think I can use KIES to obtain the firmware
I am really desperate right now, and any help to find a firmware for SHV-E150S will be greatly appreciated.
By the way, according to the KIES registry information, the Software Revision version is E150SKRFB25, which I'd assume it to be the firmware version.
Also, if other (foreign) firmwares can be used for the phone, please give me some pointers or directions.
I really don't care about maintaining the locality or korean-specific aspects of this phone
Thanks in advance.
I didn't even know there was a Korean LTE version, let alone one with PHONE functions. I wonder if a dev can hack an image of that tab to work on the i815 to gain phone functionality. The E150S seems to have different LTE bands tho ;[
E150S: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=3436&c=samsung_shv-e150s_galaxy_tab_7.7_lte_m16
i815: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=3257&c=verizon_samsung_sch-i815_galaxy_tab_7.7_lte
I can dream, right ?
Sorry tho. I Wish I could help.
Maybe a dev here can help you obtain CWM for the device so that you can create a stock nandroid image?
Actually all I need to do is root the phone, since I need it for development.
Since a rooted firmware does not exist, I just assumed that I would need the stock firmware for rooting.
Please correct me if I am wrong, and let me know how to root it without getting the stock firmware.
This root method has worked so far for the 6800, 6810 and i815 versions. Maybe it would work for you?

ngeroons 41.75.
Thanks for the input,
But it says,
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
And, something funny about my tablet is that it seems like it's not reading from the SD card. I had to save it in the tablet for the recovery tool to see the file.
Problem Solved!!
I finally got the firmware thanks to
samsung-update.com
SAMMOBILE
The firmware for SVH-E150S can now be found at either
sammobile.com
samsung-updates.com/latest-firmware
It seems like I can't post the urls since I am new to this forum....
So can't write down the full URL, but I figure most of you should know these websites already

must root shv-e150s
Dear kthlee,
It appears you were able to download the ROM image and root your galaby tab. I bought a shv-e150s in Korea last year. And I very much want to root it to get rid of several annoyances that are useless if you are not in Korea. Can you perhaps post a step-by-step of how you did it? I know how to download the image from sammobile, that is not the problem. What to do afterwards is what I do not know. I fear I will just end up with a newly formatted tablet, still not rooted. Thank you in advance.
My Flex2 is LS996ZV4, i bought it in Cuba. It never got any OTA update since i rooted it very early and the software update notification didnt showed up there. Im living now in Peru and the notification does show up (by the way it can be seen in the screenshot), but... the update does not work because the phone is rooted and i find no way to unroot it due to its old software version(V4). Im in some kind of a loophole here
In the mean time, my phone overheat and lags like crazy! And i've been using it like this for almost a year now...
I asked this before, and i got no response, guess is not something easy to do.
Thanks in advance. Any tips will be higly appreciated.
Do some search in the forum and you will find similar threads about this issue for H950 or other variants check if it applies to your model or try it on your own if it works good then you are fine if it doesnt you will have to wait for professional support by other members who have exp with this device
Thanks for the tip @yeyoo. Im starting to believe there is no solution at hand...
I have searched... and almost every advice i read implies going back flashing the stock image and unrooting. But i cant do It because i cant find an image of this old software vers.(v4) to download.
I think you dont need the same version you have you can flash higher version kdz easily and it will remove root automaticly or you can try to update through lg mobile support tool on a pc
im sorry if this is in the wrong section but ,ok so i bought an open box galaxy s6 from becetech online and it would not let me update the firmware past 5.1.1 which made me a bit suss, downloaded root checker app and it came too me rooted. apart from not being able to update the firmware past 5.1.1 as far as im aware the phone has no issues and works perfectly fine. i downloaded the *samsung* phone info app, in general under manufacturer it says Samsung/verizon so im assuming that is part of the reason they rooted the phone as it needed to be unlocked from verizon to be refurbished? so what i want to know is how do i find out exactly what becetech have done to the phone and is there an easy way for me to update the firmware to nougat or at least marshmallow without stuffing the phone, like i said the phones running fine its just really bugging me not being to update. obviously im not able to work it out myself but i can follow instructions so any help from someone would be greatly appreciated so thank you in advance.

Could someone with a bit more knowledge please tell me if the reason I can't update the firmware is because the firmware csc is TGY when I'm in Australia or just because it's rooted or what? I'm getting no answers from the company who I bought it off

Are you trying to update via the phone update feature? If so this won't work as rooting disabled the ability Update using ota
First I tried OTA then downloaded samsung smart switch and gave that a go both no good. What I want to know is, if they had to root the phone to refurbish it will it brick it if I try to update? Won't it reset all the company I bought it off has done to it to refurbish it? Which I'm guessing is quite a process as when I look at the open source licenses there's a long list of files that have been changed. It just sucks that it's locked to a three year old version of the firmware that I'm worried apps will start to stop supporting in the near future? Apart from that I can not fault the phone there's been no problems, maybe I'm asking a bit much for a $400 phone?

From what I can tell you have a g920v variant if the phone Shows Verizon but the sure fire way to know what variant you have is turn the phone off once off hold home-power-volume down, this will take you to download mode but should tell you your variant. You don't need to root a phone to refurbish It, you can flash Stock firmwares via Odin. I really don't know why they would have Rooted It tbh, you'd need to contact them, but I know for sure you can manually download the latest Verizon firmware and the phone should work. Maybe they Rooted it as part of making it network unlocked, o really can't say
Ok I tried that and a bright blue screen came up warning about custom OS then press up volume for download and down volume for reset? I just pressed down as there was no other info on the screen but it does say it's a sm-g920v in the settings as well as the root checker app. Another thing was I did ring samsung support gave them the serial number and IMEI and they said an authorized modification had been done on the phone but could offer no other support as it wasn't an Australian phone. I'll keep trying to get some info out of the company I bought it off and try to sort it out thanks for your help :good:
Hello everyone,
Newbie posting here after several fruitless attempts to find what i'm looking for.
My granddaughter has now taken ownership of my old Galaxy Note 4 (SM-910F), Uk , unlocked model. Recently, after the Android 6.0.1 update that has been applied, her phone now randomly switches itself off, often during a telephone call. I have had a brief look and now it will not complete a proper boot and is stuck in boot mode. I have cleared the cache and performed a full factory reset, but to no avail. My next port of call is to root it with a stock version of the earlier 5.1.1 firmware, but i cannot find a uk copy anywhere. I have registered on SamMobile, but every time i select the phone and the firmware, i'm taken to a download page where i have to pay a monthly subscription to get the software.
Is there anywhere i can get the firmware for free, as if this fails, then the phone is rendered useless.
Any thoughts or help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Lee.

I’m pretty certain there’s no charge, in fact it’s free but the downloads a bit slower. You will need Odin as well as the firmware too.
