I installed the Samsung USB drivers on my Win 7 64-bit laptop. I have ADB installed, and have used it for other devices, no problem. I can still use it to connect to my Color Nook.
I kill-server; start-server, and look for devices - nothing. But I can see the USB installer and those other few files on the phone, and I can see everything on the sdcard.
Any ideas? I'm going crazy here.
Do you have USB debugging on?

I had this problem as well.
First see if you have the "SAMSUNG usb driver" installed in control panel programs.
If not, take off usb debug and connect phone to computer. Then you should get a "install verizon software" option once you plug it in. Install software .. Then, enable "usb debuging" try it again, if that doesn't work .. remove verizon software, not usb drivers. This is basically what i did, and it started working
Hi,
Has anyone tried connecting the Nexus 5 to a macbook air in bootcamp? I have MTP mode enabled but cant seem to get the phone to show up as a storage device in Computer. I was however able to connect the phone via MTP to a HP laptop no problem. Anyone have any idea what might be going on?
Thanks.
I also have this problem. MTP is selected and my computer doesn't see it as a storage device.

I had this problem with both my Nexus 7 (2013) and the Nexus 5 in Windows 8 and it came back when I updated to 8.1 (on a Windows PC, not even through Bootcamp). The following fixed the problem each time:
1) Go to Device Manager (press WIN+R, probably CMD+R in Bootcamp, type devmgmt.msc and hit ENTER).
2) Find the phone under something like Android Devices.
3) Right-click and select Update Driver Software.
4) Select Browse my computer for driver software
5) Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
6) Select USB Composite Device
Apologies if the text isn't exact, I'm actually on a Mac right now and don't have Bootcamp... and the PC I remoted into doesn't have an Android device plugged into it. But after doing all of that, Windows instantly recognized it and both MTP and USB debugging / ADB worked fine.
Hmm, so my phone is showing us as "MTP USB Device" under "Portable Devices" in device manager. And the " Update Driver Software" option is not available when I right click it.

I had the same problem!
None of the drivers works for me and the "Update driver" option is not available when my phone is plugged in.
Are you using a USB 3.0 port?
For some reason my phone works when I connect it through a USB 2.0 hub, but not when I connect it directly to the USB 3 port on my laptop.
Weird.
This solution worked for me. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512549 and see post #5. Be sure to thank n7of9 for the link and WugFresh for his toolkit solution. Enjoy.
Ive tried everything my pc doesn't recognize my nexus 5, downloaded google drivers, updated adb and nothing.
When i go to device manager I can't find it.
When I go to devices and printers i can see nexus 5 but can't access it.
When i switch to PTP THe device works but MTP doesn't. USB debug on and off don't help either help?
I deleted now every driver installed phone shows up as android adp when connected but can't access it or nothing?
IT works fine on other pc
hey had the same problem. The solution below worked for me...
1. Enable USB debugging: Go to phone settings -> About -> Tap build number repeatedly until developer menu is enabled. Go there and tick USB debugging.
2. On your PC, go to your device manager (when the Phone is plugged in and set to MTP), locate the phone, right click on it -> properties
3. go to the Driver tab
4. click Update Driver
5. click Browse my Computer for driver software
6. click Let my pick...
7. select USB Composite Device
8. finish up with the assistant
This is going to be stating the obvious, but do you have a screen lock code? PCs will recognise the device, but wont let you access unless unlocked

That worked perfectly. Thanks man! I was starting to pull my hair out.
Ok I'm having this same issue. Completely stock right now. It makes the notification sound like its connected but can't locate it on mtp. I tried to follow this guide, however I can't locate the device in device manager on mtp. It shows fine on ptp. Please advise....thanks
Edit: I saw a download to add mtp capabilities to my win7 machine. Thing is, it works no problem with my galaxy s3 now so that couldn't be the issue

Ok, i tried like everythin.. all that pops up is that nexus 5 don't have any driver / and access denied.. my nexus is at 4.4.3 software.. and i cant connect my N5 as PTP aswell... seems like i'm really stuck here :/ i'll try to reinstall my USB drivers, mabye that helps somehow... But, would everythin be easier if i Root my N5 ?
Sorry for crappy english
The reason why I gave you the link was for you to do a manual installation of the Nexus 5 drivers. Even if you're going to root, you still need your PC to recognize your phone. When browsing your computer for driver software in Step 5, point to the file you downloaded from the link.

What I have done so far, is install Android SDK. Through there, I installed the USB drivers. Still nothing appears. When I go to "Devices and Printers", the phone appears under "Unspecified Devices" as shown here Someone help please?
If it helps, I had two Samsung devices prior to this phone.
Silly Question?

I just got a Nexus 5 and Windows 8 (had to upgrade my life). This may be an obvious question, but once in Device Manager, where to I "locate the phone". I've done your previous steps but don't know where the phone it located.

I can help you . I just had the same issue. I forgot how lol. Let me see. Uninstall the drivers and turn off the USB debugging mode and turn off development mode. Disconnect the nexus and reconnect and profit? I'm pretty that's the fix because I had the same issue for an hour and I fix it myself.

hey guys
not really sure what the hell is wrong
i finished rooting an unlocking my pohne with WugFresh - and obviously doing the first driver steps means my drivers are functional.
when i connect my phone to my pc (win7) nothing comes up while its on MTP, first time i chose MTP it installed drivers but there is no popup window on my PC to choose an action, nor can i see the phones SD on my computer.
if i switch to camera mode (PTP) i instnatly get the Autoplay menu and can access two folders DCIM and Pictures.
i tried:
doing the initial installation (and uninstallation) of drivers in WUG a few times
turning MTP/PTP on off
turning usb debut on/off
plugging to another pc - WORKED INSTANTLY
so why wont my dumb PC be able to do this?

no dice.
Keep it on an then try , may one restart will help but keep debugging on
Try manually uninstalling the drivers from device manager and reboot both phone and computer. Connect in ptp then switch to mtp

wow im not sure why but this did it:
connected to PC (AGAIN) with MTP and PTP and DEBUT off
turned on debug and removed driver from device manager
turned off debug
turned on MTP and removed driver
turned off MTP
turned on PTP and removed driver
turned off PTP
and then i activated to install drivers (and after install deactivated) in this order
PTP
MTP
DEBUG
now all is installed and working
no idea why.

I have such a problem with this phone that after connecting with a USB cable, windows does not recognize it. Are there any USB drivers for this phone?
Its should be recognised and drivers installed automatically. File transfer mode won't be activated straight away until you change connection settings (default is only charging) - if you are wondering - phone storage is not showing up.

I change the connection settings but it has no effect. The drivers are not installing. For the same port (the first time) I connect POCO X3 and the drivers install automatically, everything works.
Are you on windows 10?
Download driver. -> Windows Device manager -> Ports (COM) -> Right click one with yellow triangle -> Update Driver -> Browse my Computer -> folder you saved driver (extract .rar/zip beforehand). You might need to disable driver signature by going to advanced start up settings.
I activated developer mode and set the USB behavior in it as needed
