[Q] Recover deleted video - General Questions and Answers

I accidentally deleted a video of my dog playing with her puppy litter that has now went to new homes. The phone is Samsung Galaxy S5 Active with android 5.0. Is there a way I can recover the video? I am not rooted but would be willing to root if it wouldnt overwrite the data. Have tried a couple PC programs but they can't detect the phone since it connects in media device mode or camera mode, not USB mode. Thank you!

Connect it to your PC and use any Recovery Software like Easy recovery pro or any other free software you can get your hands on and then you can easily recover it.

If the video was in your SD card then just connect in to your PC with the help of card readers.
In this way it'll show a new drive and continue with your recovery software.
(In this way you do not need to root your phone)
If the video was in internal memory,
DiskDigger, Undelete are the apps you are looking for. Both needs root.
They are available on play store.
They dig into your internal memory and recover them
Just the thing is, the data shouldn't be over written.

The video was on internal memory. How can I root without overwriting any data? thanks

I don't think there's any root available for lollipop.
Still you should check on your respected mobile forums.
Just search your mobile with vendor (AT&T/Verizon/Sprint) on XDA and check forum for rooting.
PS: I suggest you not to root your phone. As it is risky and if your noob you may brick your phone. Everything this, just for any video

[Q] CyanogenMod9 help

Hello all,
Complete noob here, let alone first android device and coming from Iphone. After I got my first Android device; the Samsung Galaxy Note (I717) I opted to go for another operating system to enable the tethering feature. I was successful in rooting my phone, installing CWM, and successfully flashing my ROM to the latest CM9 ROM.
However, I have a few simple task that I simply cannot accomplish, they are as follows:
1. Computer can no longer see phone as a mass USB storage device. I have enabled USB debugging mode on phone through settings.
2. No music player app can see my music files I have loaded on my microSD card, of which I have manually loaded through the computer to the microSD card.
3. the gallery cannot see my pictures I have transferred into the SD card.
However, all these files can be seen and accessed only through the OI File Manager app on the phone.
I do not know what I am missing.
Can somebody help Please?
Thank you,
Jeff

First of all, welcome to XDA!
Second, under Settings>Storage, does the SD card appear in the list? It could possibly be a ROM issue.
Hi,
Thank you so much for the warm welcome.
Yes, my SDcard does indeed show up under settings within the storage list.

HELP!! Lost photos

Hi all,
My wife's phone went into recovery screen (not rooted) when she turned it on after being flat. As a result it did a factory reset and with internal storage SD all photos and video are gone. Dozens of photos of our newborn son and she's beside herself.
Being Jellybean you can't mount as USB to do a normal data recovery on it as a standard drive which sucks.
Does anyone have any other suggestions as to how to get this phone mounted somehow so can data recover the memory on it?
Help will not go unrewarded.....
Thanks

This. But beyond this, you want to make sure that whatever data remains isn't overwritten. That means don't start installing more apps and taking more pictures. There are also professionals who make attempts at recovering data, but those services are relatively expensive. It doesn't sound like you're ready to root, but there are apps that can help rooted users, as the person above me mentioned.

You should be able to access the sdcard in recovery via adb shell. You probably need custom recovery though

My kid was screaming halfway through the first post and when i came back to submit, it asked me for my password again. Figured it didn't work so made a new post. Oops.
I have rooted my own personal one-x, dhd's, sensations etc so i'm not against it but i know if i unlock the bootloader through htc-dev it will wipe the phone again so i'm loathe to do that for the moment.
Just sucks JB can't simply mount USB like ICS. It would have taken me 5 minutes to get her stuff back instead it's been 2 days already.
I've now got the phone showing as a 'media device' in windows explorer with full access to the 24gb of 'sd card space' but still can't run a recovery program as doesn't assign a drive letter.
Going to be a long day.
Moved to Q&A.
Please post in the correct section

[Q] Still no access to internal phone via usb

Hi all,
To start with, I'm in India and tried to unlock my Verizon S3.. at first, got it rooted, tried to unlock, didn't work and it caused a bunch of connection problems, etc. with the phone, so I did a factory reset, thinking it would wipe the problems I was having.
Lost some files I forgot were on my internal memory I needed, so I wanted to do a file recovery. During this process, I re-downloaded the drivers for the S3 I needed and then found that my phone would connect, but wouldn't connect as a driver and only as a media source. So the recovery software can't find the device to inspect. Even when I debugged, it would only register as a bootloader and wouldn't recognize it as anything more.
I'm trying to figure out what other steps I need to take to either remove something that I tampered with before the factory reset, or if I need to install something new to configure my device to register as a driver, or do something else I can't figure out?
And I'm still trying to recover those files from before the factory reset too.
Anyone have any suggestions? I can explain in more detail if needed.
Thanks for all the help!
Are you trying to recover personal files that were wiped?

Trying to get my computer to register the phone as a driver so then I will be able to recover the files.

You may be out of luck. When google went to Android 4.x, they switched to the MTP protocol which mounts the phone to the computer as a media device, rather than a mass storage device (as in previous versions of Android). As far as I can tell, devs have only been able to figure out how to get the external SD card to be seen as mass storage (and that's built into a rom, not a stand alone mod, I believe).
Is there any file recovery software/app available for Android that you can install directly on the phone, rather than needing to run it from a computer?
Well, that's not a good sign. But I will check into the direct software to the phone and let you know I find anything.
Thanks for the tip!

[Q] Need help! Galaxy Note 2

Hi, im new here so excuse my beginner silly questions >_<. Im trying to recover files that were deleted from galaxy note 2 GT-N7100 INTERNAL STORAGE. when i connect my phone to the computer, it connects as portable media device and i am able to transfer files. however, i want to know whether the phone is accessible as ntfs or fat32 in order to use it on a program to recover files. i also would appreciate recommendations on ways to recover deleted files from the device's INTERNAL STORAGE.
Possibly without the need of rooting if thats not too much to ask =x?
Thanks T_T

I think you should use free software to recovery would be better, it would not distinguish as NTFS or FAT32 format where, but you will have to install it on the PC, the PC should be noted that receiving phone memory okay
You can use a software
EASEUS Data or Recover My files
get it

[Q] GT-I8262, how to undelete/recover deleted pics & videos?

First of all, I have to say I'm a total noob so I will try to make things as simple as possible.
2 days ago, a friend deleted some pics and videos which are pretty important to me. I tried to switch the phone to USB mass storage device mode (and later undelete files with Recuva or some similar program), like I did with my last one, but then I realized that Core doesn't have that option So, my question would be - is there any chance to recover it or should I quit? The phone is on default settings, not rooted or anything.
Quit, sorry but if ure using stock kernel there is no option...
So, there is no possibility to root it now and then recover it with some software? Damn..

Root? What'd you root it for?
Sorry, my bad, didn't explain all facts in the first post. I found on google that there are some programs to enable USB mass storage device mode on Galaxy Core, so I downloaded one of them - USB Mass Storage Enabler. When I enter it, it says:
Your device does not seem to be rooted, this application requires root to work.
So I guess there is a slight possibility that I can undelete those files, maybe... but it would be of great help if someone would confirm, if there is someone who had the same problem.
If you had the photos on SD card then you can recover them using iCare Recovery Software or any other recovery software.
I don't have a SD card, it's on internal memory card.
Can someone just confirm that nothing can be done? So I can stop searching for a solution on google and all kinds of forums...
