[Q] App development questions - Other Tools & General Discussion

Hello!
I am interested in creating an app that interacts similar to a pregnancy/fertility app - with a user specific timeline and information. I do not know how to code and have been looking into some online app building and managment systems. Many of the programs online look like they can build apps for events, businesses, rewards, etc...
My question is, does anyone know if there is a system out there that can deliver user specific content? For example, if I enter a date of an event (like a pregnancy due date) as I approach that date relevent information is delivered to me (at 3 months, 6 months, etc..). Any insight would be very appreciated!
Thanks!

If you don't know how to code you have two options:
1) Pay someone to do it , maybe 20k will be enough.
2) Design you app on paper , and try to find a partner.
my two cents and good luck

Point of sale/Cash register system

Hi,
I'm new to Android and this community, so sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong place.
I need to set up a solid and reliable Point of sale (POS) system for a food business. Doesn't need to be portable, and there would be 2 or 3 in each store. It would have an inventory of about 50 items. The system would need to be able to provide detailed data such as times of individual item sales etc.
I'm just wondering what kind of systems are available that can do all this, and what experience people have had with it?
Are there any major advantages/disadvantages of this whole idea?

You are posting in the wrong place, but I work in the EPoS industry so can probably help. Best to take this off-line - drop me a PM and we can discuss further - before the thread gets locked.
Hello ycon,
There are many Point of sale System available in market. If you are running a food business, chances are you are going to need an all-featured point of sale software. The basic integrations that are a must in each POS software application are payment and transactions, bookkeeping, accounting, employee management, inventory management, and customer relationship management.
If you are looking for POS System which will fulfill your business requirement then I would like to Recommend Technology Counter which is Best Tech recommendation platform with reliable list of POS Software so that you can explore, analyze and choose the best solution that suits your needs.

your recommendations please crm type app

Hi all,
Have been looking for a crm, stock & invoicing type app to run on my samsung tablet for a little while and am not really finding anything that covers all of the bases. Most just seem to be front ends for large corporate systems and the others very limited in what they can do, so I thought I'd seek guidance.
What I'm looking for, well I'm self employed and travel to a customers premises where I primarily sell a product but also carry out ongoing servicing. Regular service's also include additional products. Some of my products are stock items but many are ordered from a small number of suppliers specifically on behalf of the customer.
The app will need to; maintain a customer database, be able to schedule appointments with them, maintain an account balance, generate an invoice that is emailable direct from the app, maintain a stock list, raise orders to replace stock or to fulfill customer demand, generate various reports for total receipts, total spend, customer spend etc. Ideally this should all be able to sync back to google docs for record keeping, analysis etc.
So what do you think people any ideas?
I have so far spent 3 days trawling through the app market with no luck, nothing I've found does all of it and juggling 2 or 3 apps is defeating the purpose of using an android tablet I may as well just buy a notepad & pencil.
Not sure if this is the correct forum for this so, please move if you feel somewhere else is more appropriate.
Many thanks
Jon
Edit sorry realised it's in the wrong place, have reposted but can't see how to delete this post, admin can you delete please.

[Q] Questions about an app for a company

Good afternoon everyone,
I have been thinking about an app that my company could use when staff are sent away on weekend events.
The company hires our PDQ (payment terminals) to various markets/fairs/events throughout the country. They are based in London, with most of the events being further out in the country (Telford, Oxfordshire, to name a few). Whilst at the event I would like for our customers feedback, complaints, questions, concerns, ideas, notes on our equipment, e.t.c. to be logged using a tablet, rather than pen and paper. I feel the most effective way to do this is creating our own app. It does not have to be pristine, with a professionally chosen colour scheme, perfect graphics e.t.c., but a simple app that is user friendly and just works. Ideally we would be able to upload an Excel spreadsheet to it, containing customer details, that can be displayed using some form of table/report layout whereby notes can be added. So, for example, 50 customers and their details are on the spreadsheet, it's uploaded to the app and each one can be opened individually. A signature section to confirm receipt of the equipment would also be a fantastic bonus. Once the event is over with, it would help if the report can be pushed/emailed in a usable format (again Excel would be great) so that certain parts can be extracted and used in various other reports.
So my question is... Am I completely mad for hoping the above is achievable, or extortionately costly? Or is it relatively simple considering the advancements in app making and the kinds that are available today? Could a relative novice be able to make it, or is it best reserved for a Pro?
Any help, questions, suggestions, silly remarks welcome.
Thank you

That certainly is a nice idea, but unfortunately it doesn't seem very realistic.
If anyone was to attempt to create that, it'd definitely need to be an experience app maker, as the code required to make an app like that is astronomically difficult.
Meh. :|
Scaling it back...
OK, I thought that may have been a lot of 'blue-sky' thinking. How about if the information was entered manually somehow and then notes were made on each one?
It would be great if each event could be stored on the app and looked back over for reference if need be. Say if the customers information was entered using the app creation tool, then a signature was taken and saved as an image, perhaps a picture of it can be taken and then uploaded to the app?
To the app developers... Is there something based on my proposal that could be made more easily?
Thank you

Dev wanted for tablet project - paid (NYC)

*Mods: if this is posted in the wrong place I apologize, couldn't find a more suitable forum.
Hello XDA,
My client, which is a company based in NYC is looking for a serious developer to help create their own "closed OS" (think Amazon.. etc).
Knowing how many insanely amazing devs are on XDA I figured i'll give it a shot
Please see the ad below:
We are looking to design a company only closed system tablet.
The tablet will be used by our employees and should be restricted to company specific apps.
Users will have no access to the full options / settings of the system, will not be able to install anything.. etc.
The system we are looking for:
• Closed OS system that will only run specific apps. Users should have no access to well.. anything but the apps we need on it. (think Amazon tablets).
• Ability to push updates and notifications.
• Ability to remote manage the device.
• Multiple interfaces (2 to start with) – based on the login.
• We are open to device suggestions, whatever will make development easier. 8-10”.
The person we are looking for:
• Local - We are based in NYC (Manhattan) and would like someone that we can work face to face with.
• Professional and knowledgeable – You need to know the Android system inside out, or at least well enough to strip / adjust features as needed.
• Have time – We need someone who can dedicate the time needed, when needed (within reason of course). Would like to have an alpha version ready within 2-3 months (again, if possible).
• Must be allowed to work in the U.S.
You will be required to sign an NDA and non-compete during the first meeting.
Interested ?
Shoot me a PM with a little info about yourself and an email you can be reached.
And please, serious inquires only, this is a paid project which will be on going for a long time if it works out.
Thanks everyone!

Best back end for Android app?

I appologize if this is a dumb question, but I am new to app development, altough some experienced in php/html.
I want to create an app where user fills in forms. The app development is easy to find info about, but i also want a back end plattform where I read the submitted forms and organize users.
So, my question. Is there a sort of ready wordpress like plattform to customize, or should this be built from scratch? If so, which platform is the best?
One note I should add about Buddy (full disclosure: I work there) is that we maintain independent instances of the platform in different locations around the world. If you need to host your backend in Europe (for response time or data sovereignty reasons, for example), you can choose your app backend to be sandboxed in the EU. Likewise the US and likewise China (with Brazil, Singapore and Australia coming soon).
he best way to develop mobile apps is to use REST services. So now you can choose any thing.
Any language that can used for server side programming can be used.
Now it is up to you choose the language.
If you familiar with JavaScript then you can try nodejs. You can make small app server in it.
But if your server software design is very complex (containing threads and synchronisation) then java can be handy.
But there is no restriction of language.
Firebase should be also a way to go for this.
The best android back end services include, Parse, Kumulos, Kinvey, backendless, QuickBlox.
Concerning the forms where users can fill up information, would something like help out?

On Apple's platform you might need an iPhone developer - it is quite possible to create and publish an iPhone app using your form.
I did take the help of mobile apps development service in toronto to know the process which is described here: http://support.brightcove.com/en/app-cloud/docs/step-step-guide-publishing-apple-app-store-using-mac
Thanks Carol for sharing such a wonderful article.

Odoo-Ebay Integration takes into consideration the competitive level in business and provides a quick fix implementation for every industry to break through.
I have heard good things about Hasura (Not affiliated in anyway). And I think parse - mentioned above - is no longer available.
I'm wondering why nobody mentioned Google CLoud or AWS. They are most mobile friendly for a good price
Hi, if you will decide to build from scratch, there are different options/frameworks. But If you use kotlin you should look to Ktor.
Backend options for an Android app
Here, The list of good backend options for an Android app:
1. Parse.
2. Back4app.
3. Firebase.
4. Kinvey.
5. Appcelerator.
