[Q] samsung s3 sgh-i9300 showing as sch-i535 on download mode - General Questions and Answers

Hello, good day. I have a Samsung galaxy s3,rooted,running on 4.4.2, on the settings[about phone]it show Samsung i9300 but when booted into download mode it showsSCH-I535. I suspected something was wrong because i have tried to install CWM recovery but none have seem to work. I don't know if it is safe to flash a custom ROM via cyanogen mod via PC because i guess it does not need a recovery to flash via pc,i don't know if i should continue with this situation i have because i am afraid i might brick the phone. Your help is very much appreciated

Yes dude flashing a custom rom is 100% safe via odin. But your custom rom should be a tar file but it is 100% safe to flash a custom rom via odin.

Mmm are you sure about that? I don't know of any custom roms in .tar format that you can flash with Odin. Custom roms come in .zip format only stock roms/kernels come in .tar please correct me if i'm wrong.

I think this is what I needed. Just wanted to make sure I have everything when I brick my tablet and need to claim warranty. I hope the Baseband and Stock Recovery need ODIN installation and the installation steps for both are same.
I could not find out any tutorial here, how to use ODIN. If can somebody made one, bcoz there are peoples who wants to go back to stock ROM and this will help them.
Baseband
Version: P3100 DDCLK1
Android :4.1.1
Downliad link:

Stock recovery:

Firmware:

BTW: I am presently with Adi's SungSonic HD Rom:good: and it is better than CM10.1 (My experience, no offense)

Firmware is an total package that contains all elements.......including bootloader. ...
Flash it via pc Odin pc Odin. ......
Before flashing whole firmware it is recommended to flash stock recovery and kernel via mobile Odin. ....
I have provided baseband and recover separately. ....
Because some people may need only baseband and they don't want to flash everything. .....

So if I download the Firmware then I will get stock recovery and Kernel as well...Am I right?
Can you please tell me file names for those?
So after flashing Stock Recovery & Kernel...I have to flash the firmware which will again flash Stock Recovery & Kernel..

you shouldn't have to use odin to flash a rom on your phone, odin should be for recovering your devices back to stock or flashing a custom recovery. does it have a recovery on it right now?

Yeah, you only need ODIN to get the recovery on the phone.
Once it is on, you can install everything (other recoveries, kernels, custom & stock ROMs) from within the recovery and you don't need a computer anymore. Just download the zip of the things you want to install and go nuts (don't forget to make a backup of your phone from within recovery first).

[Q][Probably n00b question] GT-5100 - flashing recovery via ODIN doesn't flash it

Hi there!
I've been trying to flash any custom recovery to my p5100. It was never flashed before. What I did:
-tried to follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1657056
-tried to follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50174804&postcount=3
I was doing those guides step-by step, didn't forget a thing (I'm sure)-
But everytime I flash something via PDA to the device in ODIN, and I try to go to the recovery, I get the stock recovery (3e) where I cannot apply any *.zip files as updates.
My goal is to install some android 5.0.x to the device. I know the risks.
Thank you in advance for help.

Hi,
1. Root your device using CF - Auto Root for p5100 basically download it and flash it using ODIN
2. Install any custom recovery you want this topic Custom Recovery. I use TWRP but feel free to use anything you want.
3. Go to the GT-P5100 Development and choose any Lolipop Rom that you like and enjoy it

Unmark Auto-reboot option and manually reboot into recovery.
Stock ROM overwrites custom recovery by stock one.
