[Q] Can't install 5.1.1 update on rooted N5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
My Nexus 5 was on 5.1 and is rooted with Chainfire SU. The OTA update arrived a couple days ago but I can't apply it - it goes into recovery, starts the install and then stops showing "Error" and needs a reboot.
Best way to get 5.1.1 on it?
Ric

I have this issue too and would like help. I tried the unrooting function provided by SuperSU but that didn't resolve the issue.

Thank you! Dirty flash using the nexus root tool did the job nicely

I side loaded it in stock recovery.

[Q] Nexus 7 Unlcoked & Rooted, issues with Google play after auto updated to 4.3

Hi all,
I have a nexus 7 unlocked & rooted using Wug's nexus 7 root tool kit. When unlocked it was having OS 4.2.2 . Recently I have auto updated the OS version to 4.3.
From then, I am facing issues installing apps from Google Play. The dialog just stays in downloading and never installs the app.
I tried to unroot & lock the device, but the command prompt stays blank and looks to be a boot loop.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Flash stock rom

Hi Amit,
Thanks for the reply. I tried to install stock and lock&unroot using Wugs Nexus7 root tool kit. It was not exiting the command prompt for almost 30 minutes. There seems to be booting problem.
Could you point me any link on how to unroot and lock the tablet.
Thanks,
Prasadu

[Q] Keeping Root Restoring Bootloader

Hey everyone!
I broke my Nexus 4 a few days ago, so as a replacement went with the Moto G, loving the little thing.
However, now i am running into some problems. I installed CWM and rooted it, without flashing any custom rom. Then Moto asked if i wanted a system update, so i downloaded it, but it cant install. Every time it reboots during installation, it goes to CWM, which asks if i want to install the update package. When i click yes, it fails, saying there was an error, tells me i probably lost root and reboots. After reboot, moto tries to install the update again, and the circle keeps going.
So now a few questions.
Im coming from a nexus, which is very root friendly, so please be patient with me
1. can a rooted device receive updates at all?
2. Is it possible to keep root but reinstall the factory bootloader? (seeing as this is the problem, it would fix it right? I dont want to install custom roms, i just want root for added control with tasker etc.)
Any help greatly appreciated
Blucose
In rooted device, you will get updates but you can't install it if you using custom recovery..
As per my knowledge you can relock the bootloader but you will not get the warranty back..

Do you have a source you trust that i could get the locked bootloader from?
As far as I know, If you use either stock or philz recovery you can still install OTA updates and keep root.

Updated to 4.4.4 while rooted

Hi I recently rooted my phone, and flashed the Franco kernel (still stock ROM). I received the 4.4.4 system update OTA notification and I downloaded/installed it. Later I realized my phone was rooted..but I checked - I still had Franco kernel, superuser, and boot loader unlocked...so I guess I didn't lose my root? Have I maybe messed up something else by doing this?
The .4 one seems to break the rules and apply whatever the situation.
That said, OTA isn't the best way to go under normal circumstances. You would be best flashing a stock rooted ROM

Lollipop update- where are you ?

About 3 weeks i installed the Kitkat rom stock on my N5.
Today i tried to see something about the OTA update to Lollipop, and surprisingly i saw isn't it arrived to me.
I just tried to Clear Data from the Google Services Framework- still the same.
Somebody know how can i get it ?
Thanks for answering,
Tal.
Are you rooted? If so, you'll need to unroot to take the OTA.
Sideload this via ADB: clickity-click.
Wait. I think you'll need to sideload the 5.0 update first, and then do the one I linked for 5.0.1. Can somebody confirm this?
First of all don't clear Google services framework data that messes up stuff pretty bad. Second d, this should be in q and a section. Third just flash the 5.0.1 factory images or there is a flash able zip out if you're rooted with custom recovery.

5.0 ota seems pulled, Got 3 N5 which all have the ota prompt before, but none of them get the ota message now.

So isn't it only on my device. OK.
Thanks !!
It never was your device. The OTA is rolling out in phases (not sure it's true that it got pulled but I could be wrong)... Just flash the factory images or lollipop stock ROM flashable zip. There are plenty of threads about this in the stickies...

[Q] OTA 5.0 Update error and 4.4.4 Root.

Hi, after looking on google and the xda forum I didn´t find a similar question to my problem.
I am on 4.4.4, currently rooted and bootloader unlocked, and I am receiving the OTA update. The first time I tried to update, I got an error because I was on a custom recovery; installed stock recovery and tried again (downloading again OTA). This second time the progress bar started moving and suddenly the phone rebooted to normal and said that something happened and the phone was not updated.
My question is: do I need to be completely stock, even withouht root, to update? I mean, I can´t find a post that says the requirement to update to Lollipop in specific (non english speaker here, sorry).
Hi there! I'm from Brasil. Owner of a Moto G music edition XT1033. I had the same problem with my phone here. Except that I did not use any custom recovery. I think that when I rooted my phone, the proccess I followed has changed the recovery in some way. Even after removing the root access by the option on SuperSU I was unable to install the OTA. I think that if you flash only the recovery of an stock ROM, you might receive the update via OTA. But the solution I used was to flash the entire stock 4.4.4 ROM. After the flashing process I received the OTA again and using 5.0.2 since then... And loving It!
I hope this reply helps you in any way!
Good luck!
