help before flashing cyanogenmod 12. - General Questions and Answers

I got a galaxy note 8. i rooted using chainfire auto root. then used flashify to flash twrp. now my question is i heard you need to unlock bootloader before flashing a rom. how do i know if mine is locked or not. i have the GT-N5110 model if that helps.
also i cyanogenmod as safe as googles stock rom. and where do i get the Gapps.zip thx.

If the TWRP that you flashed with Flashify is working, probably your bootloader is unlocked.

Flash it directly after installing twrp and root.

Installation order for factory image, root, TWRP and SuperSu?

Hi everyone!
I have a Nexus 5 and i have a question.
Currently, I am KRT16M stock rom and i want to, root my device, install TWRP and install SuperSU
I know how to do all this, my only issue is to know in what order.
1 : Flash factory image
2 : oem unlock
3 : flash CF-Auto-Root
4 : flash TWRP,
5 : oem lock
6 : install SuperSu with Google Play
What do you think? The order has there really important?
Just follow this. No need to flash the factory image. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47523936

This is really bad if I did? This is just to feel better in my mind, I said come factory image is "cleaner". and I restarts on good bases
And why ChainFire have made this CF-Auto-Root-For-Hammerhead, if the root is already available in SuperSu
It will not do anything bad if you flash the factory images first.
Chainfire released that rooting method before there were any recoveries available for the nexus 5, so at the time that was the only available method for rooting

[Q] simple root/upgrade question

Hi. Been out the loop for a while and struggling to find the answer to my question.
I'm on 4.4.4 no custom revovery but with root.
I have an OTA notice to go to lollipop, which should be fine, as I have stock evetything?
How do I simply get root back afer the update?
So many posts with options, I'm struggling to find the right answer.
Unlock bootloader, and then either use cf-autoroot or flash latest SuperSU BETA through twrp.

Thanks, bootloader is already unlocked. I don't really want to install any custom recoveries, so the cf-autoroot sounds like the way to go.
Do you have a link for how to use this method?
Here you go http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/

to use a custom recovery you don't need to flash it.. just boot it.
'fastboot boot whatever_custom_recovery_you_want.img'

[Q] Root Nexus 5 without loosing Stock Rom - Lollipop

Hello Xda Members. I have bought Nexus 5 - 32Gb
I want to root it but don't want to loose the original Stock Rom. Upgraded my device to Android 5.0 and it's working fine.
I found some information on this site... Let me know if this is safe. Please guide me with step by step process
Code:

Thanks
If you're boot loader is unlocked, just flash twrp recovery in fastboot. Then flash supersu 2.36 in twrp if your bootloader is locked, well then unlocking it is going to wipe your device. See the general forum for how to unlock and flash a custom recovery

I know if I unlock the boot loader then it will wipe my device and then I have to use custom recovery.. My question is that the above link in my message didn't showed any unlocking of the boot loader.. Is this possible.

Sorry, I'm on my mobile device and can't get to the link. But I can tell you that on 5.0 there isn't a way to root without unlocking the bootloader. I'm guessing the link talks about towelroot. That worked on previous versions of android but not 5.0

Yes I'm talking about Towelroot. Well if there is no way then I will not root my device because previously I have used HTC One X and rooted it as well but didn't find much options after rooting it just I have the file on the root access. Currently No app ask me for root access. I can copy Games to Android Folder and etc..

Updating Nexus 5 to 5.1 from 5.0.1

Hello All, I have a rooted Nexus 5 with custom recovery. I need to update the same to 5.1 but since I am rooted I am unable to do the same through OTA updates. Can someone please point me out to the instructions to update the same? I tried a few things from online but it did not help. Which will be the best solution to update the android version without losing the root and the data on the phone? I will be really appreciative if someone can help me with the same.
Just unroot, install the ota and reroot on 5.1. You might have to lose the custom recovery but it's easy to install it back

5.0 will check recovery and overwrite twrp if your not rooted. Download latest SuperSU and place on sd. Boot to boot loader/fastboot. Fastboot flash recovery recovery.IMG. then fastboot boot recovery.IMG. then when twrp boots, flash SuperSU. Reboot

download the factory image and you can use the flash-all.bat in the factory 5.1 image as long as you remove the -w. The -w is what tells it to wipe. Once that is done, you will be on 5.1 and you can then re-root by booting into a custom recovery (fastboot boot recovery.img) and installing the root.zip from there. That will get your root back.
Thanks everyone for the help. I was able to successfully install the update and re-root the device using the wugfresh toolkit.
See OTA help desk thread on General forum.

So just to clarify, I have a 6045I factory global unlocked from Amazon, It has never been rooted, bootloader unlocked, nothing. So would I place on SD and apply update through stock recovery, or is there a different method? Really just want root for adaway and xposed. TWRP would be nice, but not necessary. Just don't want a new paperweight. Thanks!
Can i install twrp to flash thid or stock is fine?
You can try windroid toolkit v3.1.
First u have to unlock bootloader then to flash recovery and supersu .
For me it is not recognising my phone hope u will get success.
If try then pls share ur experience.

For me it got downloaded but showing device either offline or unauthorized
I'd run a full virus /malware scan.... I use 360 Security on mobile devices and PC's. It, along with SUPERAntiSpyware has served me well.

Just install the TWRP 3.0 in android development (it has instructions in the thread) and then you can flash the supersu mentioned.

Well the obvious choices are:
1) Use mobile Q to restore to 5.0.2...unlock bootloader, install twrp....upgrade to marshmallow using the modified update.zip that doesn't wipe recovery and finally root using the file mentioned.
or
2) Live with it as it is until someone figures out how to restore fastboot which will probably still require downgrading.

That's the problem. This phone is totally stock with nothing done but the update. I literally charged it, turned it on and 20 minutes later 6.0.1 was nagging for install, which I did. There is now the OEM unlock switch in developing options, but I don't know where to start, or flash.

You must go back to 5.0 to install and then update it because in 6.0.1 update Removes Fastboot commands so you can't install it twrp....
I have a problem with rooting 6039Y on rom 6.0.1 by persona78. Stock rom 5.0.2 and root working fine. When i flash via TWRP after the update to MM i get this message:
-Cheking patch status
---Already patched, attempting to find stock backup
---Stock restore failed, attempting ramdisk restore
---Ramdisk restore failed, aborting
This solution - echo SYSTEMLESS=true >> /data/.supersu - not working.
Phone was simlock removed via furiousgold, maybe this is a problem?
