[Q] Over sensitive proximity sensor - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So the proximity sensor on my Z3 is screwed up. I only need to put my hand about 5cm (2") over the sensor and the screen shuts off when unlocket.
Any help would be appreciated!

Proximity works only during the call.
Anyother behavior is not normal, and also 5cm is maybe little much, but also mine register 3-4cm.

So for some strange reason my proximity sensor is active all the time, any fix for this?

Connect it to pcc and use repair solution. That is simplest thing to try.

Okay, I solved it, it was actually an app that had gotten permission to access the senor, after removing permission from the app everything is back to normal, phew!

Which app was it? How did you find it? I also have this problem.

[Q] Face Hangups....

Is anyone having issues with the Tbolt hanging up by shifting the phone around during a call? This is getting frustrating as its happening a lot. I'm using BAMF 1.6.3.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Eric
Yes...methinks it has something to do with the proximity sensor?
Under sound settings, try unchecking "flip for speaker". It may be too sensative.

None that I know of yet. It is the proximity sensor, as my bolt is also plagued by this issue. Hopefully someone will take the time to adjust the sensitivity of it in a ROM so that it doesn't wake up the phone so easily while on a call.
I have that same issue. I got in the habit of hitting the home button before I put the phone up to my face. By the time I end the call, my browser or something is opened, but at least I don't hang up on the person I'm talking to.
Another solution: after the call comes in and you answer, just hit the power button. The screen will turn off (and won't turn back on until you hit the power button again).
I saw another thread about this. Someone said that lint gets into the speaker grill and messes with the sensor. Just lightly blow onto the grill to get the lint out of the way. I had issues with the screen not turning off when I put the phone to my face. This solved my issue... for now.

Auto brightness not working?

Running 5.0 on AT&T model. I have auto brightness turned on with baseline at dimmest setting which as most know is bright enough for most indoor situations. When I go outside into broad daylight, the brightness does not change. I can manually increase to full (and then the display is readable) but nothing happens on it's own.
Is this normal, am I missing something else? Defective light sensor?
EDIT: According to the following apps, I don't have a light sensor and my proximity sensor is failing. Can anyone confirm good data from them? -- Sensor Box for Android, Sensor Test, Phone Tester, Sensor Kinetics
If your screens turns off during calls that means the proximity sensor *is* functioning. I tried a sensor test and don't see fail anywhere.

Yea, my screen doesn't turn off during calls (unless I knock-knock on my head/ear). Also knock on constantly turns the screen on when I have the phone in my pocket (when proximity sensor should prevent it, right?) There isn't really a "failure" in those apps per se, I am just not getting any type of change in the data from proximity sensor and I am not even getting an option for light sensor test. More or less trying to verify I have a hardware issue before trying to get a replacement or warranty service. I've only had phone for 2 days.
Thanks for the feedback.

Have you tried a factory reset already and is yours rooted?

Tried factory reset last night with no change. This phone has never been rooted (and I received it new)
This is from the sensor app. I would conclude yours is faulty if resets aren't fixing anything.

Edit: Sorry about dark screen, using screen filtering to avoid burning my eyes.

Thanks so much for the screen grabs, this confirms my results are abnormal.

Proximity issue?

I seem to be having an issue with my proximity sensor. At times it works 100% which leads me to believe it's a bug in the marshmallow update, since it never happend before it. Sometimes when making a call I can't hang up, the only thing I can do is force reboot the phone. Anyone else with this issue,or should I send it in for repair.

No it happens to me too since the update, very rarely but very annoying!
I'm on the UK Generic version if that makes any difference...

I'm on the same firmware
Really annoying indeed. I wouldn't say rarely in my case, 70% of the time I'd say... Hopefully it gets solved asap!

I find if you give the screen a wipe where the proximity sensor is when it happens, it usually sorts it out. Maybe it's just over sensitive or something...

Has anyone found any solution? This is annoying me too much. Sometimes even when I tap play in music app, the screen goes black.
I have the same problem which began instantly after updating to build number 32.1.A.1.185, and this happens to me every time I place a phone call. Running the Ear Proximity test has it vibrating constantly (meaning that it detects the ear). If i wipe the area above the proximity sensor before running the test and then run the test with nothing near the sensor then it will remain off - but then when something approaches the sensor it kicks in and then never switches off even when you move away from the sensor.
Seems like they have quietly fixed it through some update because it is working fine now.
Completely same problem here with same behaving, but with build 32.2.A.0.224. Any solution?
I mean as farooknaji wrote...
same problem here!
Where is the proximity sensor. Could be my panzerglass (tempered glass screen protector) pressing on it leading my phone to think its againt my ear?
Same problem here since last firmware update! I contacted sony but they say is a hardware issue :S
Do you guys know a way to fix it? Its pretty anoying
I had this to, after I placed a extra glass screenprotector.
Removed it, no problems any more.

Phone sleep?

Can someone please tell me where the setting for when your talking on the phone your phone is suppose to black out when you hold it to your face. I can't find anything.
Huh? Mine just does it. It uses the proximity sensor. I don't think that's a setting
The sensor is behind the glass, not near the earpiece.
Is there a sensor test or calibration somewhere?

You can go to dialer(stock) and *#808# scroll left to right to degugfing and then proximity sensor test.

Problem with screen replacement

Hi, does anyone know why after changing the display the fingerprint sensor, the proximity and brightness sensor no longer work?

In first place it can be a bad connection of the cabling.
