Auto space works fine except when typing in a Google search box. What would cause it to stop inserting spaces only in that scenario?
It thinks it's a url... no spaces
You're probably right. I didn't think of that since I was typing into the search box and not the address bar, but I just realized it automatically moves the cursor to the address bar. Oh well. Thanks.

Liking the phone so far, except gesture typing with the android keyboard will not work. I have enabled this in the android keyboard settings, and even tried restarting the phone, with no success. Is this a known issue? Anyone having the same problem?

I have no issue with the app. What is you problem? Is it that when you go to type the regular keyboard is showing? If so hit the globe icon next to the space bar. That will either auto switch to Google Handwriting Input or give you a menu to with the option to choose Google Handwriting Input. If that isn't your problem then please tell us what specific issue you're having.

Sorry, I was not too specific. In the messaging app, or search widget, or any time when the android keyboard pops up, I am unable to use swipe to input text, that is, inputting a word by sliding through the letters. This is in spite of gesture typing being enabled in android keyboard settings. Settings/Language and Input/Android Keyboard/Gesture Typing
Thanks

Oh OK. Yeah it's a known issue. Install the Google Keyboard from the play store. That one works fine.
After the google app got updated the behaviour of the swipe-to-search gesture apparently changed. Before the update you just swiped up from the homebutton on the homescreen and the cursor was placed in the google search bar. The keyboard appeared and you were immediately able to start typing.
Now after the update a new blank windows is opening when you swipe up that looks a little like google now. It showes the google search bar in the middle of the screen and you have to click it to place the cursor in the search bar that moves up to the screen after you clicked it. And then you're finally able to type.
Does anyone know a way to change that behaviour back to how it once was and is there a way to let the google developers know, that it sucks the way it is?
And is anybody sharing my anger about that stupid change of a perfectly working app?
So I don't know if this is a feature or a bug but I saw that whenever i had the keyboard open i would get a "Select input keyboard" notification (you can see it in the first image). When i open the notifications i get the dialog in the second picture.
So i went straight on disabling all the other keyboards: i disabled Swype and Google app (because of Google Vocal Typing or something like that) from the apps settings so the AOSP keyboard is the only one left (see third image) but again no luck, the notification is still there. I also tried replacing the AOSP keyboard with Google keyboard and ensuring that it was the only one active but it still didn't work. Is this standard Android behavior? Or possibly an Alcatel bug? A bug in my software? That thing is annoying as hell.

I get that dialog when I press a small button to the right of the nav bar (it only appears when the keyboard pops up). Did you try to longpress the notification and then press the "i" symbol, then disable notifications from that source?
I always get that dialog, even with only one keyboard app installed/enabled, so that's not normal.
By the way, i tried disabling the notification but since it comes from Android System itself it cannot be disabled but only set to priority mode.
It drove me crazy for a bit cause I'm a little OCD with my screen, but I just ignore it now.
Hello. Using S8+ Verizon with default Message+ app. Google voice typing works fine with the default Samsung keyboard, but when it doesn't quite recognize a word, and I touch the word to correct it, it shows a dark grey box with black letters for the suggested corrections. It is barely readable. I have tried to set the message app, and google voice to defaults, but there has to be a way to change this so the letters are readable.
Hopefully someone knows?
Thx
Ive noticed that in some programs, such as Instagram and YouTube (when trying to comment on a video) , when clicking on the text input field, the keyboard obstructs the text input box, preventing you from seeing what you are typing. This has been presents for me since The move to Android 10. Anyone have this problem and know a fix?
