[Q] How do I change the carrier on my android phone or iPhone? - General Questions and Answers

I'm trying to get into repairing, flashing networks/roms, buying and reselling phones.
So I need to know how to be able to change a cell phones carrier too.
I don't want to buy locked icloud iphones or stolen phones but I know it does sometimes happen no matter how much u try to avoid it. So if this does happen I would like to Also know what I can do to bypass this:
If there a way to bypass icloud lock, patter locks/pin code locks, what can I do about bad ESN/imei?
how can I unlock androids phones and iPhone phones so I can use them with any carrier?
How can I unlock an android/iPhone to work on a different carrier?
What's the best jailbreak method for android
and best jailbreak method for androids?
Help with all this would be greatly appreciated ;") thanks!!!

Bypass?
The thing is to switch carriers, you will first have to determine what carrier the phone is with, then contact the Carrier and ask them if they could unlock it to use with other carriers. However, this does not mean it will work with all carriers.
Q:Can i bypass icloud?
A: At the moment this is only possible with the iPhone 4, on every other iphone model, you are forced to enter Original apple id and password
Q:Can i unlock and android with Pin,Password, pattern, etc.
A:Yes this is possible by wiping the phone or also hard reseting. To do this, you will have to press+hold a certain button combination. (Varies on what device it is. For example: On a Gaalxy note 3 the combination would be Volume Up+Home+Power. To navigate you will have to use volume rockers. Once your done with that,A menu will apear and one of the options will be "Reset or Factory Reset". You will then confirm Nd youll have an unlocked device.

[Q] Iphone Clone [screen locked]

i have an iphone 4s 64Gb clone which has a locked screen and i can't remove the passcode, i would like to reset the password.

1) i can turn off the phone and bypass the screen lock but i dont want to turn off the phone and on everytime i want to use it.
2) the information on the phone is false (settings)(general) it says 5.1.1 on the information which means it iOS5 but i doubt it.
things i think i should do:
1) get it to hard reset
2) install a new ROM (but before that i have to determine what is installed so i need help on that too)
3) get the battery off the phone if thats possible so it can reset. (just a guess)(just like bios)

Dont Know Phone Pin? Help to reset phone?

Hi, a family member passed away a few months ago and I was given her phone by her sister to use if I wanted. She had the phone and charger, and thats it. I stay in the UK and the phone I use is on O2. The phone she had was the Experian L but she had her phone through a contract with virgin media.
When I initally put my sim card in and turned the phone on it said 'virgin media, this phone has been reported lost/stolen'. In order to unclock it from this security lock I needed her insurance company(through virgin) to provide me with a 4 digit pin to unlock the phone. This was very hard to get as the insurance people are different from virgin media, but after a while they agreed to give me the code if I sent a copy of her death certificate in. I did this and got the code thankfully. I was told that I wouldnt be able to use my o2 simc ard in the phone because the handset was locked on Virgin. I was told if I paid £15 I would receive the unlocking code through the post in a week or so.
I did this and got a letter through the door with the instruction on for to unlock the handset. Basically its a 16digit number that I enter and the phone become unlocked. However, after all this Ive just realised I think there is a phone lock on the phone i.e. a pin she must have set herself? I think this because when I power the phone up without a sim, all I can see is the date/time, with her name underneath, and also underneath that is a keypad. When you press any button on the keypad and hit enter it says wrong pin? That happens without a sim card so I presume it is a phone pin lock she had on her phone is that correct? If so, is there any way around this? Ideally I would like to keep whatever pictures etc are on the phone however I realise that might not be possible. Ive tried to download the sony suite however it wont allow me to use the suite because it tells me on the computer I must enter the pin on the phone to continue! bit of a nightmare to be honest.
Any help/suggestions with what I can do? Many thanks
I cant unlock through Pc Companion because Pc Companion needs the screen to be unlocked before it connects the device, and I cant do that.
factory reset
Hello, do a factory reset to the Phone, but you will loose all the information on it

Security of ios vs android , an important doubt.

Can the data in an iphone can be erased like android mobile by going to recovery mode by pressing 2/3 buttons of mobiles . If not then what happens ?
What? If you want to know about resetting an iPhone, ask in an iPhone forum?

I don't want to reset an iPhone, I''m just asking a security case. Let's imagine our android being stolen, then the thief can certainly press the power and volume key and can easily wipe data and factory reset the mobile phone by just simply going to recovery. So it'll be impossible for us to find the phone.
But I'm asking in case of an iPhone is this same case possible? Can a thief just simply wipe the data and reset the mobile by pressing some keys and without unlocking the mobile ?
Gotcha. I haven't used an iPhone in years, so don't know.
I still think it's weird to ask an iPhone reset question in an Android forum though. You would probably get your answer in a minute if you just ask in an apple forum...

Isn't the whole point of factory reset protection on android that it renders the device useless to someone who does this? Sure, it won't stop them actually resetting it, so you won't be able to track it afterwards, but the idea is that the thieves will learn that it's a waste of time.
Apple have something to prevent you just wiping a phone and making it yours, but I can't remember the details (i.e. whether it prevents the reset or, like the Google version, prevents you from using it afterwards).

I concur with @Large Hadron
On an iPhone, someone could enter the password incorrectly several times and the device would be wiped. It would not be usable, but it would be wiped. They could also connect the iPhone to a computer / mac with itunes and flash a factory image from there. Again, the device would be useless to them, but you wouldn't be able to recover your device from the thief.
Comparing an iPhone to a Pixel 1 or 2, both device could easily have the data wiped from the device. To that effect, the data is secure on both devices, which is by far the most important part. Recovering your lost / stolen device is an entirely different conversation. The benefit of an iPhone when lost / stolen is the device is a brick without the previous user's icloud email and password. Once it boots up, it asks for this before you can setup the phone. There is no way around this (without Apple's intervention). On a Pixel 1 or 2, the device could be wiped, but I believe the thief could then use the phone as their own. There is nothing that would "brick" the phone after a full data wipe.
If you are worried about your data, either phone is good (don't unlock bootloader and don't oem unlock). If you are worried about the hardware, you are responsible for that.

An Android phone works exactly the same way. If you wipe it from recovery, FRP (factory reset protection) kicks in, Once that happens, you are required to log on to the last account that the phone was used on (just like Apple). If you don't know the previous account and or password, there's no way you can use the phone.
You can factory reset from settings without triggering FRP though. Doing so removes all accounts from the phone and anybody can then use it. It's assumed since you are in settings, you've already logged on when you last booted the phone. A thief wouldn't be able to get into settings to reset it as he or she wouldn't know the password to unlock the phone.

And if you really want to perfectly protect all your encrypted files, never open the bootloader. Because there's no way to flash something in the phone if the bootloader is closed. And there's no way to Open the bootloader without wiping all your personal data in the process.
Now if you decide to open the bootloader, files are still encrypted, so it's not a big deal.
Regarding the annulment of an Android device, when it is stealed: That happens with any modern Android phone. Basically, Google bans the phone from their cloud servers. A phone without google account is like an iPhone without Apple/iCloud accounts, almost useless.
P.S.: an open bootloader in Android is like a Jailbreak in iOS, but totally OFFICIAL and supported by Google/Android. You don't lose any functionality like with Jailbreak (if that thing still exist today...).
From my point of view, Google should ask PIN before accessing Fastboot mode and Recovery mode. but this is just to prevent a bad joke from a friend or something like that. (Not when your phone is lost forever, you just want to ban that device from Google servers so can't be used again).

Are you sure about that? I believe that factory reset still triggers FRP thus the black market trade in bypassing that check on lost and stolen devices.

Does "Unlock the Bootloader"... Unlock the Phone?

Hello, XDA.
I bought a Moto e 2020 Unlocked (Renewed) thru Amazon, and it's apparently Not unlocked.
When powering up, it shows "Xfinity Mobile".
A search in this forum found threads that tell us how to unlock the Bootloader.
Is That what I want? What is the Bootloader?
Will That procedure then make the phone Unlocked, so that I can activate it on RedPocket?
Thanks.
Mark2463
Hi, unlocking your device leads, unfortunately, to the lost of your guarantee once you have a problem with it. So, my advice would be: not unlock it. Kind regards, kuzibri
Thanks for the reply, Kuzibri, but I Think I'm not worried about the Warranty.
This is a Used (refurbished) device.
Will unlocking the "bootloader" allow me to use it with another service provider?
AFAIK, your device is connected to a specific provider and unlocking it does not allow you to choose another provider, but only allows you to downlaod, f.i., apps that are not allowed to be downloaded from the app store or gives you the opportunity to install a different ROM on your device. Kind regards kuzibri
Really?
Unlocking it will Not allow moving service to another provider?
Gee... I thought that's usually the Purpose of unlocking these devices.
As I already said, unlocking a device does not allow you to switch to another provider. The main purpose of unlocking is to download apps that the Store refuses or to install another custom ROM on your device. If you want another provider, you have to switch from your current provider and choose another one, which, in general, also means another SIM card and if you're lucky, the new provider lets you keep your current phone number, otherwise you will get a new one (rather disturbing IMHO). Regards kuzibri
Hello~ if you're looking for a new service provider, then the 'unlock' you're referring to is probably the network lock, which locks your device to certain network provider/s. So i suggest you search in that direction. regards.
Well, Thanks, Fjildeth, for that clarification.
Apparently there IS a Difference between unlocking the Network, and unlocking the Bootloader.
THAT was my original question.
Yes, I want to make this new phone usable on a network other than Xfinity.
So, unlocking the Bootloader will Not do what I want... correct?

Yes. unlocking the bootloader is a different matter, and isn't what you're looking for. I suggest you go search for 'SIM lock' topics. there's a lot of guides regarding this. Hope you'll find a way.
If you want to make your new phone usable for a network other than Xfinity, then the solution lies in the SIM card corner. Each SIM card is coupled to a certain provider. If you put your current SIM card in another device, it will still be the Xfinity network and not another provider. Alas, you will need another provider with the accompanying SIM card to switch from network. And indeed: "So, unlocking the Bootloader will Not do what I want... correct?", this is correct.
Yes. Unlocking the bootloader will trigger a factory reset that erases all device settings, user data, third-party applications and associated data from the device's hardware storage.
If your bootloader is unlocked, you will be able to root or flash custom ROMs. But keep in mind that there is a reason why every Android comes with a locked bootloader. While locked, it will only boot the operating system that is on it. This is extremely important for security reasons.
Unlocking your bootloader is not recommended if you don't want to install a custom ROM on your device. Bootloader protects you from various data theft attacks and provides security features.

Pin locked; TWRP flashing not allowed in locked state; need to recover data

Hello - I have a rather unique situation and have been searching for possible solutions since last few days. I have forgotten my pin or potentially an update or my office apps have locked my phone. I have it connected using fastboot to my PC however I am not able to flash TWRP as it gives an error: Flashing not allowed in Lock State. Is there any way for me to back up the data before doing a reset? Is there any code which can be used to bruteforce different pin combinations in recovery mode / fastboot mode? Any help is greatly appreciated. I have the output of "fastboot getvar all" in case that can help you locate the partition to boot/erase. thanks a ton!

In what way are you phone locked? I don't think there are anything you can do to save your data if you don't know your password/pin. TWRP wouldn't have helped in this case either.
Hi - thanks for your reply. My pin is not working and every pin trial is taking quite a bit of time. I am able to try pins quickly in recovery mode but trying all possible 4 digit combinations will take quite a bit of time. Alternatively, a brute force code to keep trying different pins would also be beneficial if you are aware of it.
Wont adb would have let me back up my phone data?
No way to bruteforce it that I am aware off.
your pin is needed to decrypt the encryption key that is used to decrypt data. So you can't access or backup any data without your pin. This is by design.
But cant the encryption key be overwritten using my biometrics which I have registered as well? Or something that manufacturer can do because there are tonnes of solutions for samsung and lg devices but am struggling to find something for oneplus..

Perhaps this is because OnePlus has properly secured their devices and Samsung/LG hasn't? Though I do contest that statement. By my knowledge all devices perform a data wipe when the bootloader is unlocked (aside from one OP device that had a flaw in this area IIRC).
Please view this from another perspective: if your device was stolen and you've PIN protected it, would you want the thief to be able to unlock it and view all your pictures/videos/documents/etc?

I agree but one pin cant and should not be the only way to unlock phone. In my particular case, I have now started to think that some of the app has messed up with the pin or an android update has messed up with the pin. I am quite surprised that a forgot pin / pattern option doesnt even come as if no one can forget pin. Is there a way to hack into my phone given I am logged into same gmail and other apps as I am logged into my new realme phone?

First time I've heard of a failing PIN, let alone an app that would mess with it (which is absolutely impossible). Asking for a hack into your phone is asking for an illegal way to access your device, which crosses a boundary we will not get into on this platform. We tweak devices, we add functionality, we use exploits to alter the aesthetics of a device and we surely mess them up a lot but we will not support anything beyond our terms.
But! If there indeed is an issue with the OnePlus 8T PIN security, I hope people will report it here. AFAIK there is no such issue widely known.
I also hope it's a lesson in creating proper backups. I guess learning the hard way is the best way. I think we've all been there. I sure have!
you could reset it and enter email registered with that device they fix or email you code to fix
