Could you please teach me about 007a theme.zip-for future use- why is not "framework directory" set under "system directory"? and why is only "service.jar" manually copied?
Anyway grateful to your work and clicked "thanks".

The .zip theme is a way, using the recovery menu, to apply themes with ease...I don't know exactly how it works...
About the framewor directory not being set under system directory I didn't understand, could you please rephrase it??
and finally the service.jar is a file that is there only to change the color on the date on the status bar... and it's the only file that needs to be manually copied because I couldn't create a .zip file that included it....
Hope you like it and thanks for the thanks
Thank you for reply and sorry for poor sentence.
I only hope to understand why default directory structure is not maintained within 007a_theme.zip,
whereas "/system/framework/framework-res.apk"
I have no other purpose,this is simple interest.
I'm not quite sure I understood you but I think you mean inside the. zip file?? If so, the zip file is not a complete image, it's just a theme file that updates the current ROM, but within the system the structure remains the same...

Yes, this is the CarDock.apk provided in the AOSP ROM in the apps folder, you just have to install it through adb....

Which metod have you used??
Either way my first suggestion is to get to the recovery menu and restore your backup and try again...
I've tested it in other xperia I have and it works perfectly... remembering that this will only work in J's AOSP 2.1 007a ROM
A quick question if i may before i begin and id like to try it using the unzip to xrecovery menu then restore method.
Im guessing the location for unzipping is inside sdcard/xrecovery/backup/ (which ever date time etc not just making a new folder under sdcard/xrecovery/backup then unzip here?
I hope you understand what i mean
Thanks for your time and effort for the theme btw!

All you need to do is unzip the folder (/2.1 007a AOSP RMR) on the zip file to sdcard/xrecovery/backup/ there's no need for dates or anything else, just unzip the folder and restore....
Remember to make a backup of your own before proceding....
Good luck, hope you like it and I'll be happy to help in anything else you need...
Sorry im not quite sure if you understood or i might being a little slow as its 3am uk time.
So its just into the backup folder not the one where the back up is made with.
Sorry for my confusion

Yep, in the end your folder structure needs to be /sdcard/xrecovery/backup/2.1 007a AOSP RMR
inside this folder you have the cache.img, data.img, nandroid.md5 and system.img
and no worries about the confusion, it's 1 am here in Brazil, I'm not at my sharpest either....
i'm using the xrecory method, which mentioned to update to custom zip ..
anyway, if i'm restored from your image, will all of my previously apps gone ?
if i've been already done app2sd, will it crash with your apps ?
thanks ...
*update :
I'm trying to use your first method by extracting your file to xrecovery/backup ..
but, when i'm trying to restore it, the xrecovery says that md5 mismatch
=(
Hey gang. I know a lot of people know of JsChiSurf. You should. That man is one of the main reasons I do what I do today. Buy him some beers or fund his retirement
Anyways. He came up with a mod that can change the Sprint Banner in the Sense Lockscreen. The hack is pretty straightforward yet awesome. I based this mod off of his. Check it out here
His goal was to use a hex editor to modify the text, but I am taking a different approach. We have so many tools available now. Apktool, apk manager, and of course, Android Utility. This is for Sense 1.0 ota 4.54 Evo 4g.
This mod is easy to do.
Tools: Android-Utility, or apktool, Java
Download the attached files below: HtcLockScreen.apk and Testsign.jar
1. Have com.htc.resources.apk and framework-res.apk from your rom ready
2. Decode the apk like this if using apktool, run in command prompt or terminal:
Code:
apktool if framework-res.apk
apktool if com.htc.resources.apk
apktool d HtcLockScreen.apk out
3. Now, you should have a folder called "out"
4. Open the folder and look for res/layout/lock_screen_bar.xml
5. Open the xml in Notepad ++ or Gedit
6. Search for where it says "EVO Classic"
7. Change it to your desired text
8. Save and exit
9. Now, we compile the apk
Code:
apktool b out HtcLockScreen-new.apk
10. Now, we resign the apk.
Code:
Method A:
Open the original apk with 7-zip.
Take out the entire "META-INF" folder.
Open new apk with 7-zip.
Put in META-INF folder.
Method B: (only works on Evo Classic and other roms with signature verification off)
type in this command:
java -jar testsign.jar HtcLockScreen-new.apk HtcLockScreen-signed.apk
11. Download the sample Update.zip Found here, attached at bottom
12. Put the apk (renamed to HtcLockScreen.apk) inside the zip under system/app/
13. Flash and enjoy!
Sorry if this isn't noob-friendly enough. I tried to come up with a different way but this is all I got. The details are all there.
Please try it first.
But if you really can't get it, feel free to request a specific word or banner. I can upload them for you.

Tommy Nguyen

Only changes the Banner Text. Lockbar will not be included.
All to be applied with ZipThemer
-EViL-KoNCEPTz- Banner
Sprint Banner
I'm guessing we can still use sprint apps, because this only changes the banner. Would I be correct?

Tommy you are a beast! You write these guides like you wrote the code or something. Do you know of a guide somewhere that breaks down smali code? That's where I need to be lol

We are all here to learn, take from community and give back to community!!!
@Lord ClockaN
Hya guys, after A LOT of requests, I decided to share with the community something that I found really REALLY useful for Dev's but also for other users too that want to mess up with compiling and decompiling process. Usually, non problems at all with that, but since ICS come out, many dev\users are not able to decompile\compile properly many ics apk (not all). This guide will ensure you a good result, 100% working, easy, and fastest way to mess up with ics for theming and resizing purposes, or whatever you want
BIG THX to my friend and Dev teammate @Bichon for this

About Apktooll
Please consider to visit the original thread about this tool, because what I'm explaining here is just 1\10 of the real skill of this tool. You can do basically whatever you want with AutoApktool, themers will love it, Dev's will appreciate it a lot, I'm sure.
Why can't we use Apktool???
Well, you can, but it's more difficult, that's it.
Why do you say "must use 1.4.1 apktool version"??
The reason why is that since 1.4.2 version, apktool generate java code while recompiling process is going on, and this lead to errors that 9/10 makes decompile process fail.
Requirements (Windows environment, mine is Seven 64 bit)
Java (last version)
JDK (last version)
JDR (last version, usually included in JDK or Java)
SDK (last 3.0 version for ICS source code)
Auto_Apktool 2.0.0 (DOWNLOAD THIS ONE NOT OTHERS!!!)
HOW-TO (NOTE: before start, select Apktool version with option 21, YOU MUST CHOOSE 1.4.1 version!!)
1) Download and simply unpack Auto_ApkTool 2.0.0
2)Click on "autoapktoolmain.bat", prompt will open
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
3)put the apk you want to mess up with in "_INPUT_APK"
4) you can chose more than one option to decompile (option 6 is strongly recommended)
5) when option 6 is being selected, drag the apk from _INPUT_APK folder into the windows prompt and click enter
6) A Note window will appear, and will show IF the decompiling process has been done properly. Once you close that window, you will see the decompiled folder in _INPUT_APK folder
7) do your edits (xml, snali, or png, doesn't matter)
8) recompile with option 7 (NOTE: this time you MUST drag all the FOLDER, NOT the apk)
9) Once recompiling finished, open the decompiled folder, go to "dist" folder, and here you got your edited apk
10) you MUST sign the apk with option 10 (NOTE: drag the apk from dist folder to the prompt, then press enter, and in the SAME folder, a signedxxx.apk will appear)
11) Rename the apk, and push it |NOTE: you can push the apk with 62 option or with sdk typing:
Code:
adb remount
adb push xxx.apk system/app
adb reboot
That's it
NOTE FOR SAMSUNG USERS
Samsung changed some Hex value in the compiled dex code.
It has nothing to do with resources apks or anthing.
If you want to decompile those apks you have to do the follwing:
Using 7zip extract the classes.dex file from the apk and save it somewhere.\
Delete the classes.dex file from the apk.
Now you can decompile the apk using this tutorial.
If you want to decompile the classes.dex to edit the smali code, download baksmali 1.3.2 and smali 1.3.2 and use them to decompile and recompile the classes.dex.
After you recompiled the edited smali code, just drag back in the new classes.dex file you made.
this won't be fixed until Brut will make a new Apktool, or someone inserted the new baksmali/smali code into apktool
THX @Firefeds
When you're in trouble...try this one, you can apply the following method to the op too
Downloads:
http://code.google.com/p/smali/downloads/list
smali/baksmali editing v1.3.2
- Download both smali and baksmali v1.3.2
http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/downloads/list
This is the latest apktool used to compile/decompile .apk.
Download apktool1.4.3.tar.bz2 and apktool-install-windows-r04-brut1.tar.bz2 for Windows or
apktool-install-macosx-r04-brut1.tar.bz2 and apktool-install-linux-r04-brut1.tar.bz2 for Mac. Follow the instruction on installation.
Step by step:
1. Extract the classes.dex from the desired apk.
2. Decompile it with baksmali v1.3.2 (for modding smali)
3. Recompile classes.dex with smali v1.3.2.
4. Decompile the apk with apktool (without classes.dex in the apk itself).
4a. Modify the apk however you want to, adding your changes.
4b. Recompile it with apktool.
5. Put the modified apk back into classes.dex.
6. Sign the apk.

it's absolutely a pleasure, thx to you
Thanks for this great tutorial memnoc.
But when you create your own app you can checkout your project in eclipse or something like this. Ive read that this is for security that your app cant be decompiled.
Will this program decompile such apk's too?

Is there a difference between market and system app? I'm talking about normal market apps, which you can build in java with eclipse. There is a choice to publish. I don't know the right name there. With this the apk should built that you can't decompile this. (So I read it)
But if there is a difference you can decompile all system apks without problems? This would be very nice

Q&A
Q. I want to use my own updater-script. Is this possible?
A. Yes. Just place your updater-script in tools/createZip/META-INF/com/google/android/ folder and the app will use it in place of the default one. Although it's not required, it would be nice if you can leave or add the words zip created by 3Minit Android studio.
Q. Can I add another apktool version?
A. Yes. Just add it in the tools folder and the app will pick it up (restart app after adding to see changes).
Q. What are tags and how do I use them?
A. Tags allow you to work on multiple projects at the same time, without re-installing the framework files each time. To use them, just type the tag name in the textbox before pressing the install framework button. Then, when you decompile the apk, just select the tag from the drop down list. This is not needed when compiling the apk, as apktool uses the same tag automatically.
Q. Can I add new directories for the create zip function after compiling the apk?
A. Yes. Click the preference tab then the Add/Remove flash zip directories. You can also do a quick edit by typing directly into the drop down list.

@gharrington Awesome work my friend!
Windows
Windows version is now available enjoy.
work fine for me , your first tester...Most appreciate friend.
Mac version now updated to v 0.2
Worked absolutely flawlessly.
A note for testers/users. Create a directory (name it whatever you will remember) and drop the apks you want to work on there.
I got lost for a minute finding the extracted apks. They were under a directory created where the apks were. I'm used to finding them under the same directory as the program.
Not *****ing..... it's actually easier like that.
Lovely work!! Looking forward for further development and improvement for this great piece of work. Working fine for me.
