Has anyone an idea is it possible and how to get it working? I heard I need ArchlinuxARM armv7 image (found it already) and an apriopriate kernel (no idea about that one). Thanks in advance
You would need to build custom arm arch kernel strictly for our device. Then you would have to properly repartition your phone . And even then you would end up with something not so useful. Solution is to boot arch while running android and its kernel. And there is an app for that ! Search for Linux Deploy
What about performance of linux booted with this method? Do you think it can run xserver?
PS. Widze ze nie malo naszych Kielcow w internetach
X server is possible through using VNC so performance could suffer a little. It is usable though

Hi
What exactly is the difference btwenn the android and the debian/ubuntu kernel?
Of course they are both based on the linux kernel, but where is the difference? Why does ubuntu not run with with an android kernel? Is ist only the configuration which has to be changed for getting an Android kernel to work with ubuntu? of coure, the device drivers, but they are not difficult to implement.
My big aim is to get naive ubuntu working on my tablet
Thanks for your help in Advance
Has anyone installed Kali lunix on moto g 2015... If yes please guide me how to do so...
Are you trolling?
Anyways, I have no idea if it's even practical to run a desktop Linux distro on a mobile device....
Didn't give it a try so far. I guess the chroot install with LinuxDeploy will work as this works on pretty much any Android device with the right architecture an Android version ( https://www.kali.org/tutorials/kali-linux-android-linux-deploy/ ). Though I suppose without a modified kernel you will run into issues when actually using it.
After all on the Moto G2 it did work with CM + modified kernel. So it's likely that the same is valid for Moto G3 once somebody provides a suitable kernel.
Hi all,
Quick question if I may:
I have just purchased a Toposh mini-Laptop which runs Windows 10 home (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08JPBJ...abc_CBHDPSWZV5T2TH0RAYX9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1).
I would really like to install a version of Linux on it, and I am looking for recommendations.
Has anyone experience with doing an install on this hardware?
Since it can be used as either a laptop or a tablet, input using keyboard, touchscreen or stylus. I would really like to keep this functionality.
I am, ideally, looking for a fairly lightweight OS.
Many thanks in advance.
Paul
Replacing laptop's actual Windows OS by Linux OS isn't possible at all.
All you can do is to install a hardware-matching Linux OS ( either x86 or x86_64 version ) in a DUAL BOOT manner .

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback. Will you expand and let me know: Why it is not possible please? What stops the install?
Cheers,
Paul
I was wondering if is it possible to use a recent kernel in tab2.
There is a Linux system (Maemo Leste, based on Devuan (Debian without systemd)) that runs in a Motorola Droid 4, that uses a recent version of the Linux Kernel (5.11) and has the same CPU and GPU. https://leste.maemo.org/Motorola_Droid_4
Would it work in tab2?
(sorry for my english).

This rom here uses a 3.4 kernel which is currently the latest one used on Tab 2

Why don't you try building a rom with 5.11 one ?? As you can see in the thread above, camera doesn't work due to 3.4 kernel and also wifi was an issue earlier but it is fixed now. Something or the other might not work but maybe the rom would boot up atleast !

Actually yes, we can use the 5.12 kernel i worked on but not with android, with Alpine Linux, please check https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...linux-on-samsung-galaxy-tab-2-unified.4171483 (5.12 kernel only for 7 inch tablets, the 10 inch ones have different display panel, if you have a 10 inch one want to help with making it usable with 5.12 kernel, I'll try)

Well as far as Android is concerned, in the future, we might get Android 11 with the 5.4 android common kernel. That won't be a easy job to make though.
To port to mainline (5.15 kernel or newer) is kinda possible but it requires even harder work, indicated by the fact that there is only a finger-countable few of those get to this stage, and even if you get it, some features won't work.

Making android work with mainline is going to be a task! For now we are running mainline 5.15 with PostMarketOS

Well that is good news, hope you reach success!
If that come true it will be a legend!
Hello, how to install LineageOS on Limbo ARM emulator?
I want to do some development work that needs rooted Android system compiled with ARM instruction sets. I have used several Android emulators on Android, but they all have various problems.
I don't want to use Android x86, because it is incompatible with ARM apps and will cause great performance loss.
I do not intend to root my smartphone, because I do not want to expose my smartphone to danger.
try finding a iso for it!
or tutorial for it?
I have searched for it in the web, but there are no ISOs or tutorials for it.
there is lineage os 14.1 x86 builds. or other android versions too! but i dont think they will work on the arm version. i used to use boschs back in the day with my old tab. i havent used emulators since. you could give it a try. just search android x86 on google. i remember there used to be versions of limbo that emulated x86. anywho hope it works
Running a custom Android OS ( here: Lineage OS ) in an Android based emulator like Limbo requires you need to install an Android version with a KVM enabled Kernel.

it maybe possible since android x86 iso's are availble. including lineage os 14.1
Perhaps the LineageOS development team should make installers for Limbo ARM or other ARM emulators.

i dont know. maybe you could try gsi's? using dsu sideloader? go search it up. the sucess rate on locked bootloaders and non rooted devices is very low but its worth a try.
IF YOU VOID YOUR WARRANTY SOMEHOW dont blame me please... alr got alot going on in my life rn
Thank you for your help. It seems that I have to abandon this idea currently.
By the way, Limbo x86 emulator runs as slow as a PC in 1995 on my device. (I'm using MediaTek Dimensity 810 @ 2.4 GHz with 8GB RAM.)

yeah its super slow. better abandon this. and lineage os 14.1 native bridge never worked for me. meaning that some apps wont work at all e.g. some games and will crash.
According to my research, the performance of a virtual machine in Limbo x86 emulator is equivalent to about 4.12% of the physical ARM smartphone's performance.
I said that:"I have used several Android emulators on Android.", these emulators don't have performance problems on my smartphone. These emulators are:
VMOS / VMOS Pro - You need to pay to become a member to use rooted virtual machines. Its theory is similar to Anbox.(Off Topic: Perhaps the Anbox development team can make an installer for Android.)
VPhoneGAGA - You need to pay to become a member or watch advertisements to use rooted virtual machines. Its virtual machines contains advertisements unless you are a member. The theory of this software is to rewrite linux's C functions.
F1 VM / X8 Sandbox- You need to pay to become a member to use rooted virtual machines.
V8 Box - It's free and ad-free. It provides rooted virtual machines for free. But at present, this software only supports Android 5.1. This software is only available in Chinese.
