[Solved] Anyone replace the sim slot on 1st gen Moto g? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a first generation moto g with a damaged sim slot. The moto g was used with a nano sim and, when removing the sim and adapter, I think one of the contacts on the phone got bent or damaged. Perfectly functional sim cards are not recognized by the phone at all.
Anyone have experience with replacing the sim slot? I'm not too good at soldering. The phone is not under warranty. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading my post.
Edit: I solved the problem. It turns out that the nano to micro sim adapter I was using was slightly off in terms of position for my nano sim cards. Once I tried a different adapter, the g recognizes my sim cards.

Check on ifixit
They have a guide on how to open the phone and you will probably get links to buy a new sim card holder
And as for the soldering you have you do it yourself

PRESS THANKS IF HELPED

Thanks for the reply. I had a look at some videos, not specifically for the g, and it looks like something I may not be able to do myself.
I called one well-known repair place in Toronto and the person said they cannot replace it although they can do other repairs to the g.

I got Dual Sim adapter 13th generation, I am usin` one in which you must cut your sim card. But it`s not so horrible as it may sound, there are plastic boxes for regenerating your sim card. Everything works fine

Anyone used Magic-Sim with nexus 5? Need help

hi,
i recently bought a magic-sim dual adapter but having trouble installing. The problem is with the sim that goes into the phone
when inserted, the other sim is on the inside of the tray (towards phone)
this is it http://www.magic-sim.com/product/id...ICRO_SIM_DUAL_SIM_ADAPTER_for_LG_NEXUS_5.html
any help appreciated
Don't know if this will help, but looking at the picture it seems the flex cable needs to wrap around and under the sim that goes into the phone.

sim card is not detected

I have a used Mi4 since 3 days.It doesn't detect the micro sim card that I made from my old Mi2s (mini sim) .

Same here.
Italy.
Tim italy 128k sim recognized - working
Tim italy sim not recognized
Vodafone italy sim not recognized
3 ITA sim not recognized
the 3 ITA sim was recognized only once before stopped working with a unstable rom that crashed.
Any suggests?
If the SIM card tray is damaged (for example, a piece of plastic is chipped off or a metal plate is deformed), this can be the cause of the problem when the Xiaomi smartphone does not see the SIM card.
I had such a situation on my Mi 3. In the service center they could not find the cause of the problem, I found it myself.
I hope this information will help to somebody.

6045i - Is it possible to convert this into dual sim?

Hi there, I bought this phone second hand quite some time ago and I actually liked it a lot. But I bought it on the premise that it was dual sim, which it isn't (I got a fair discount for that).
But now I'm wondering if it somehow possible to turn this into dual sim using the micro sd for the second sim card? I tried reselling it, but it's just not that popular here in Germany.
Any help or advice is welcome
Many thanks in advance and sorry if the question has been asked before.

You'll have to buy a dual sim adaptor.

Do you have a link for that?
And does it allow for both sim cards to be active at the same time?

I'm not so sure. Can't post a link as I haven't reached the 10 post limit. Search for magic-sim on Google.

Unfortunately, magic-sim does not allow both sim cards to be online at the same time.

Seems like nobody has chimed in yet to say that a dual sim adaptor will NOT work on this phone. Dual sim adapters are often designed as a flex cable with one end plugging into the normal SIM port, and the other end extending out with 2 SIM card ports. Since this phone does not have a removeable back, it's pretty much impossible to use one of these adapters since this phone has the closed tray design for the SIM card. You would not be able to insert the adapter into the SIM slot and be able to shut the tray into the phone without possibly damaging the flex cable.
However, if the flex cable is extremely thin enough, it might be possible. I've never owned or seen an adapter so I can't say for certain. You have to take into consideration too the Idol 3's SIM/MicroSD tray is designed to have the SIM card go in first, before the MicroSD. So it might be tricky getting the SIM card to stay flat in the tray while you attempt to push it back into the phone due to the cable being bent when closing the tray.

Thank you very much for the detailed answer.
But my original question was meant differently: I wanted to know, if it is possible to change the sim/sd card tray to a sim/sim card tray? And then flash the firmware of the dual sim version and so on.

I dont think so...
Its related to the whole motherboard.
But did you think about trading it with a person which has the 6045K?
If you are both in Europe, there shouldnt be a problem with using the warranty,as you can just send the device to a repair shop.
For example,if you and I were to trade our devices,I could just send it to repairs in my own country,as long as it is in the EU.
So,if my 6045K,bought in Croatia, breaks, you can send it to repairs in an official Alcatel Repair Shop in your own country(but the repair shop must be official, and you must be in EU too)
If you want to know more, feel free to PM me.
