I have searched the forum but no luck on this one.
When I Press Power and Down Vol HTC One S just reboots - it does not go into Bootloader menu.
I cant take the battery out as suggested elsewhere because battery is non-removable.
Fast Boot is Off in the Power Menu.
Any suggestions ?

Go to terminal Emulator and type "su" and then "reboot download".
Thanks for this.
I'm not rooted so I cant do su in Terminal Emulator
Can I do ...
adb reboot download
from Mac instead ?
Can you explain what this does ?

Hi,
maybe you can use the ADB to get in the bootloader.
just look onto this HERE
the text there is english because i've only the german explaining and so i don' need to translate it.
EDIT: Finally got into bootloader by connecting phone to a PC with USB Debugging enabled and entering "adb reboot bootloader" in console.
Hi zobojoe, any luck with getting to the bootloader? I have HTC One S imported from Germany with T-Mobile branding and I want to get rid of that branding by flashing the stock ROM but can't get in to the bootloader same as you. What version of phone do you have?

Hey, thank's for trying to help! I've seen the thread you posted before - used it to get CWM and root but I've spent last 3 hours trying to get the stock ROM in my phone (I really hate the T-mobile branding) and nothing worked. What I did was I downloaded RUU_Ville_U_HTC_Europe_1.53.401.2_Radio_0.15.31501 S.19_10.12.31501S.06L_release_251412_signed.exe and tried to flash that using RUU. It didn't let me. So I at least got the zip file from the exe (temp method) and tried to flash that in CWM but id didn't work either (probably because it was not signed). So I tried to extract the system.img and radio.img and pack it again in a new zip and sign it myself - didn't work either. Kinda stuck now. Help from someone familiar with packing ROMs would be highly appreciated. I can't be the only one trying to debrand my phone .

Yes it it. Before I unlocked it, the RUU update ended with error 170. After unlocking it RUU update started kinda flashing something, but then ended with black screen with HTC logo and then turned into RUU fail! red warning.
Hi Andrew SM
I too have been able to adb reboot into bootloader but can't understand why power + vol down just reboots the phone and not go into bootloader as it should ?
Is it the case that it is rebooting straight into recovery mode when I do power + vol down and then just boots ? - what should I normally expect to see when I boot into recovery mode ?

I don't think it is recovery - you would se a black screen with a phone icon in the midddle of it with stock recovery.
But I was able to get to bootloader with VOL DOWN + POWER finally after unlocking bootloader via htcdev.com (bootloader screen starts showing *** TAMPERED *** on the top, but that is normal). And you have to disable Fast boot in Settings -> Power of course.
Good luck!
Boot loader
Little late to the party, but I've found the best way to get into boot loader wiht any consistency is to hold the volume down and power button for five seconds or so, then let go of the power button (while holding volume down), then tapping the power button. Boot loader should pop up
Hope this helps!
Brilliant! Worked perfectly! Thanks very much.

I cannot enter the bootloader too, so I have follow your instruction and now I can enter inside bootloader. I was wondering why this was necessary.
Anyway I just have the massage : locked and NOT the TAMPERED advice.
Anyway I will wait to unlock my one s, I wanna see if a different unlock way from htcdev cames out because I do not wannt risk that the warranty could be void. Have anyone tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1578908 ?
Thanks a lot for this trick! This works immediatly!
Another easy way to get into boot loader every time is :
1. power off phone
2. hold the volume down button ( until boot menu open )
3. press power button for about 2-3 seconds then let go

Hi,
I had rooted my HTC sensation and had a custom ROM. For some reason i had to restore a nandroid backup. After completing the restore, i restart the phone but its stuck in htc splash screen.
I am not able to reach Recovery screen / HBOOT screen again. I tried Volume down + Power button, its not working ( maybe my vol key is bad ). Also, phone is not getting recognised by computer through USB cable to run commands from there.
Any suggestions as to what i should do next ??

Eventhough I press volume down + power together, it takes to me to the HTC splash screen. If i try the same by connecting it to the comp through usb cable, nothing happens. Just connected to comp and tried ABD command, it says <waiting for device>.
Thanks for taking time to reply.

I sorted it by doing
adb reboot recovery
Then wiping the cache in recovery. It rebooted and said "Android is upgrading" and then everything was back to normal.
I would have deleted the post but couldn't find the delete button.

hey guys
i have a HTC Sensation that is password locked, but the real problem is that it won't enter recovery mode.
the volume down key is working as i've tested it in a "sos call", the volume up doesn't work when the phone is turned, but that's not important as it's not needed.
is there any other way to get into recovery mode?
also, if i hold the up key with the power switch, it boots up in "safe mode"

Are you on a stock rom? if you are the you would have to have un-ticked fastboot from the settings to be able to boot into the bootloader...
try to attach the device to a usb port of a laptop and see if the usb debugging symbol shows up in the status bar. if it does you can use the adb command adb reboot recovery to force a jump into the recovery.

also what do you know about the device? is it eu,uk,us? also what carrier is the device on? is it on ice cream sandwich or gingerbread? you may be able to run a RUU (rom update utility) on the device, updating the firmware and remove the lock that is currently on the device.
So, no bootloader? When you hit vol down + power it should land you in the bootloader screen, where you then select recovery. Have you tried with the cover, SD, and SIM removed from the phone?

you will need to talk to the owner of the phone, without that info your stuffed tbh. with fastboot enabled in the stock rom you cannot boot into bootloader. without the info like what carrier they are on you dont know what ruu to run to reset the device. without usb debugging you cannot use the pc to send commands as far a i am aware :/ assuming you have the correct htc drivers installed connect the device to the pc, open cmd in your adb directory and type in adb reboot bootloader and see if it responds. again without that info you've pretty much had it. you can try to flash ruu's from the pc at random in the hope that you find the correct firmware and cid, but without usb debugging on there is no guarantee that the ruu will even find it.

you can connect your HTC phone to your computer via USB cable, and use the command below, before that you need to install adb shell on Windows.
adb reboot bootloader
Also, you could enter Recovery mode through ROM Toolbox and if you're using TWRP, its touch, so you dont need hardware keys.

So you're stuck on booting and your hardware buttons dont work?
There is a way to get into the recovery in such a situation but that usually relies on the hardware buttons. What device do you have? What recovery?
Try this
Remove battery n reinsert it
Now connect the phone to charger.
Don't do anything keep the phone as it is for 5 -10 min.
It will automatically go to recovery

Follow these fool-proof steps:
Locate your android sdk folders-> navigate to the folder where adb is located ->hold shift + right click on the folder containing adb and select ''open command window here'' ( this will automatically take care of pointing the directory to that location) -> 'adb reboot recovery' ENTER
This will automatically enter recovery. I suggest you restore your old backup .
As for your volume buttons, you should be able to fix it easily if you know a little bit of soldering and know-how.

HTC Desire HD hard reset without volume buttons
I have htc desire hd and my volume buttons is broken ,my phone is much dispute and have lots of bugs i want to HARD RESET no factory reset only hard reset with rebote. Please help me how to reset my HTC DHD without volume buttons!!
!!sorry for my english!!
SOLVED! (At least for me)
To whom may still be interested, I found a way to get into recovery and subsequently wipe data/factory reset the HTC Inspire 4G/Desire HD without using the volume buttons.
Phone background: the phone that I used had the internal volume buttons broken. It was rooted and unlocked using the effen hack kit, then I flashed a custom ROM on it and I forgot to do a factory reset before I firstly boot up the phone with the new ROM. So it was stuck on the boot animation forever.
Steps for getting into recovery mode without volume buttons:
1. Take the battery off
2. Plug the phone to a wall charger for at least one or two minutes.
3. Put the battery back on along with the battery door and don't touch any buttons.
- The orange led on the front will light up and stay on for a few seconds before the phone automattically gets into recovery
Note: use the touch capacitive buttons to manipulate recovery:
- Home/Menu buttons to navigate up/down
- Back button to go back
- Search button to select
That's pretty much it. At this point you can do anything!
I hope this can help someone out there... If it helped you please hit the thanks button!

You can use adb commands to enter in recovery mode. Connect your android to PC. Enable adb debugging and open command prompt in PC.
Type "adb devices" without qoutes and enter then type "adb reboot recovery" and enter. These commands boot your android in recovery mode.

When you connect the phone to the PC, if you can get it to say QHSUSB_DLOAD, then you can try the HTC sensation unbricking project: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23078349
Generally, flashing ROMs for other phones will result in a brick... So I guess you learned your lesson the hard way.
By the way, can you boot into bootloader at all? (Remove battery, insert battery, volume down +power button)
If you can boot into bootloader, then you have hope.
Also, do you remember if your phone was s-off before this happened?

Hold volume down and power button to enter the bootloader. Then choose the recovery option with the volume buttons and press power to confirm. When the recovery didn't load press volume up and power. Now you are in the recovery. Do a backup and wipe to factory settings.
