My OPO crashes randomly 4-5 times per day. Help? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been getting on average 3-5 random crashes daily since I got my OPO in October last year. Currently the crash count is 133 since April 19 (see attachment), which was when I updated to the most recent CM12 (YNG1TAS17L).
I have tried a clean flash multiple times to no avail. I have also tried a couple of custom ROMs (BlissPop, EuphoriaOS), which actually seemed to help a bit by decreasing the number of daily crashes down to around 2-3, but I've yet to find a way to get rid of the crashes completely.
Oneplus have offered a replacement device through RMA, but as I'm in South Africa until October I won't be able to make use of that offer for another five months.
In the meantime, any suggestions on how to fix this? I'm inclined to believe it's a software issue... Should I maybe just keep on trying different ROMs?

ive not known a phone to crash for no apparant reason, maybe youve installed the rom wrong or have a dodgy app?
When you install a rom you wipe everything except internal storage.
you install rom, with gapps
if i was u i would start fresh with the absolute MINIMUM amount of apps, test it for a day and see how it is. You might have already been told this, if you have then no idea but keep the phone bare bones for a day or two and see how it is.

What can I do if I'm tired of my G2X 6 months in?

I've had the G2X since release. It was my first smartphone, and so maybe I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. (I probably still don't have a real idea.) I've had the freezing/rebooting problems since about 2 weeks in. There are times it just won't "wake up" or just automatically reboots itself. I'm way outside buyer's remorse, obviously, so what kind of options to I have? Can I still get the phone replaced by T-Mo, to hopefully get one that has less reboot issues?
In case you were wondering, I have modded the phone to see if other ROMs would fix the issue, but they have not. It seems like the freezing issue will be gone for a short time after wiping and flashing a new ROM, but then a couple of weeks later it's back to how it was. Any advice? Maybe try to trade it out on CL or something?

You have one year of manufacture warranty from the time you buy it. I suggest you call T-Mobile and ask for a replacement.

You didn't mention if you did the GB upgrade and the new baseband. If you are really tired of it just send it to me in Thailand free. I can use another phone for testing rom builds.
Hah, I did do the official GB upgrade before I started putting ROMs on it. I was basically hoping that would fix my issues, but it didn't, so then I started in on ROMs. Currently running the latest Weapon, which I like, but the reboots/freezes are wearing on me. I'll try to call T-Mo.

The phone is defective. Get it swapped out under your warranty. Mine has only rebooted and sod once the entire time I have owned it. Occasional reboots and sod are normal for Android (usually a bogus app running havoc on the system). If you have frequent problems you have something wrong with your device. If you have tried running stock without installing programs and still have problem you definitely need to do a warranty replacement pronto. When you get your new one run it a few days without adding any apps to make sure it is okay. Then add apps slowly so if one starts causing problems you can pinpoint down easier and zap it off your phone. When the G2X is running correctly, it is one of the best Android devices on the market today.

[Q] Moto G rebooting

My wifes Moto G occaisionally crashes and reboots. It hasnt happened very often but I would like to know if it is happening to anyone else and if they know the cause? Maybe it's a bug that will be sorted with a future software upgrade?
The same is happening to me right now, I'm running 4.3. Sometimes it becomes very annoying; I already contacted Motorola through, they're supposed to call me later today...
I hope that KitKat solves this issue because I don't want to root yet.

Same issue here. Got the device, (US GSM) on Dec. 14th, and had it happen a couple of times. I didn't think anything of it, because this phone is for my son, and I was trying out parental control stuff on it. I wrapped it, and it sat under the tree till the 25th, which is when I updated it to 4.4, and the crashing has gotten worse. I get random app crashes, and more reboots now than ever. I cleared the partition cache, which didn't work. I am going to try a factory wipe and see if that fixes it, but I honestly doubt it. Moto chat told me to call in the morning to talk to a level 2 tech.
So, there seem to be a few of us, but I didn't see anything on their support forums....

So far I've had a single instant reboot in the camera app. Hope it doesn't get worse.
The phone is still rebooting sometimes. Is there any way I can check why it is happening like something that will create an error log? Or does anyone have any tips for stopping it happening? It is a very minor nuisance at the moment but I'm afraid it might get worse. Especially if it is a problem with the hardware rather than the software.

I've got the International 8 GB version from Koodo and it hasn't rebooted since I started using it full time on Dec 28. It remains powered up 24/7.
Often these reboots and crashes are user app related, it may be a good idea to data factory reset the phone and see if the issue remains.
Undervolting the cpu may cause these issues too if you undervolt too much.
I have 120 apps installed and had no crash/reboot so far in the 3 weeks i had the phone.
I have same trouble. My device is crashing and rebooting sometimes at day. Is there any solution??
Moto g purchased in mexico, telcel.
Guys, return it to your phone dealer if you can. Waiting for a fix(that may or may not come) will just increase your pain. If the service center spots the restart, they should definitely repair/replace your phone.

Yes it could be but I think it's most likely Android OS or Motorola's own certain app that's causing this. My device resets so frequently that's it become impossible to use, unbelievably it reboots every 5-10min, even when I leave the phone on standby I see it rebooting it self.
It's no just specific app that I use, it has rebooted while I'm browsing (Google Chrome), in Gallery app, on Play Store and also when I was transferring images from pc to the device!
Motorola Chat support are useless, they just game me links to Moto UK Support contact, that's it. Not much of advice.
So I will be taking it back to Phone4u store and possibly get it replaced if they can.
Kit kat seems to have fixed problem.

My wifes phone seemed to be getting worse. It rebooted four times the day before yesterday. It always seemed to be worst when we were travelling.
Yesterday morning the Kit Kat update became available. The phone hasn't rebooted since. Hope I'm not speaking too soon but fingers crossed it seems to be fixed.
We got 2 Moto G's in our family (one for me, one for my father), both ordered from Amazon.de as 8gb version (XT1032)
I haven't seen any reboots on one of these devices. They both got updated to 4.4.2 yesterday and also no crashes.
Has anyone found out what is causing the crashes? Is it maybe even a hardware failure?

If the Kit kat upgrade has cured the problem on my wifes phone then it must have been software related. Possibly an app I had downloaded was causing it. It's worth pointing out as well that most people didn't seem to have this issue.
BTW I spoke to Motorola chat a few days ago using the help app. on the phone. They told me it was probably an app I had downloaded causing it and a factory reset would sort it. Installing the upgrade seems to have done the same thing though.
Happy to hear it's not something hardware related.
I even had reboots with my nexus 5, 4 on random basis (not often). Must be some sort of app I've had installed on all my devices
I received mine in december (from Amazon [Retail.FR]) and experienced some crashes (almost every day).
I installed KitKat on it and did two factor resets to be sure it was not software related issues. Since then, a week ago, I experienced a crash every day and half (screenshot). Crash happened without any reason or specific context.
My serial number is: TA8900B6##
I decided to return my Moto G to Amazon and buy a new one.
I'm experiencing the same and I decided to try to run a constant logcat in the background to see what's going on. Also is there any way to have a constant recording with dmesg? I'm no linux commands expert.
For logcat (in terminal emulator) I used logcat > sdcard/logcat.txt which is growing in size as far as I can see. Hopefully this brings some news.
Good luck everyone.
Cheers

Random reboots when between 25 and 35 percent battery?

Hello everyone. We own two HTC One XLs, rooted and running CyanogenMod 10.2.1 for evita. About a month and a half ago, my phone randomly rebooted, and when it came back on, the battery had dropped to 25 percent. I can't remember what it was before that, but I'm inclined to say it was 32 or 33 percent. I thought the sudden loss of remaining battery was very strange, but this is the only time that's happened to me. After that it continued to operate and discharge as normal. My wife frequently lets her battery run low before she charges her phone. Well, yesterday afternoon her phone suddenly started rebooting. Sometimes it would get past the boot screen to the desktop, other times it wouldn't. My first thought was our messenger program. During the troubleshooting process, I plugged the phone in. I finally got it to stay on, and I noticed the battery was at 30 percent at the beginning of the charge. Well, today her phone did the SAME thing, but this time I noticed it was down to 25 percent before I plugged it in. I finally got it to power off and stay off, and after only a couple of minutes of charging, I turned the phone on and it has stayed on ever since with no problems, albeit it's still charging. At first I thought it was an app, but given that I've had trouble on both my phones when the battery is around 30 percent, give or take 5 percent, I'm beginning to think it could possibly be a driver-related (or whatever the android equivalent to a driver is) issue with Cyanogenmod 10.2.1 or Jellybean 4.3.1. So, my questions are:
-Are we the ONLY ones having this problem with their HTC One XL devices? A google search reveals random reboots are a common issue with these phones, often software related. I do not believe our problem is related to a specific app, but if their are apps known to cause reboot issues, please reply and let me know what apps these are.
-Is their any fix for this besides trying a fresh install of Cyanogenmod, or a different version of Cyanogenmod?
-Is anyone reading this part of the Cyanogenmod team, and if so, is this an issue being addressed in Cyanogenmod 11?
-Lastly, is their a link that I may submit a report to the Cyanogenmod regarding this issue if nobody here is part of the Cyanogenmod team?
Thanks, I look forward to your answers!

The first thing you should try is running an RUU. You'll need s-off so if you haven't got that you'll need to do that first. Run the RUU, leave the phone stock for a few days, see if the problem still occurs or not.
I'd be really surprised if anyone from CM is reading through the q&a section of a legacy device, the correct way to submit a bug is through Jira. But you first need to completely rule out your phone or your firmware as the problem, and completely isolate CM as the definite cause before you even think about submitting a ticket on Jira.

Already updated my RUU to the one recommended in the tutorial in the forums here. Couldn't update to 10.2.1 without updating the RUU. I am trying a few things, like clearing data and reinstalling some apps. Figured it couldnt hurt. I guess its wait and see.

Ok. But the point of running the RUU I suggested is to see if the problem still occurs while running a completely stock setup. It's standard practice when troubleshooting.

Right. I'm opting for simplest possibility first. I am awaiting to see if apps were indeed the cause before I take a more drastic step. So far the phone is performing as normal, was around 80 percent charge still at last check.I don't look for the problem to occur until I drop below 35 percent anyways.

Turns out it was an app. Problem appears to be solved. Apparently Chomp SMS became corrupted at some point.
Did a reinstall and cleared all data from the default Messaging app of good measure and the problem is gone.
same issues on CyanogenMod 11
i'm having similar problems except that i'm running CyanogenMod 11 and the phone restarts only when I have an incoming call.
does anyone have a solution to this?

If you are on CM 11, you are using a nightly or snapshot build as no release candidate or final version is available at this time. It's probably a bug in CM 11 and you'll just have to wait until it's fixed. You should stick with CM 10.2.1 final until 11 has a RC available.

[Q] [RMA] Random reboots (kmsg help)

Hello guys! I have owned the OnePlus for a month now and I am more than happy with it! A couple weeks ago I ordered a second one for a friend but this one is acting up from the moment it was pulled out of the box :crying:
Since I was unable to fix it myself, I am RMAing the device but while I'm waiting for OnePlus support I wanted to post here as well for some feedback (maybe I'm missing something) and in order to update you with the process. So this is my ticket's text, it pretty much says everything in it.
The device reboots itself at random, I was unable to pinpoint the problem.
Completely randomly the device freezes up and automatically reboots after 5 seconds. At times it may work for up to a couple or more hours before it does this, other times it may reboot twice in 10 minutes...
The first time this happened was actually out of the box, before I even completed the setup wizard! At the time I thought it was an Android hickup since I've since random software crashes before. Then I updated to XNPH33R but it happened once more before I unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone (notice that I am an experienced android user, I even have another OnePlus One that works perfectly fine and had done this before).
It kept on doing this so I googled and found a couple of similar cases online. However mine seems different as it happens completely randomly (wifi on/off, airplane on/off, various battery levels), nothing seems to prevent it. As I was rooted, I have kept some "/proc/last_kmsg" copies from various restarts but I was unable to understand something out of them. I also waited for a reboot with a logcat running in the background so I have a pair of a logcat and a last_kmsg that you might find useful.
To isolate the problem as a hardware fault, I tried the following but nothing helped, it is still acting up exactly the same:
-Factory reset, no luck
-Run a stability test (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.into.stability), no errors
-Installed TWRP (custom recovery) and cloned my other OnePlus on it by means of a nandroid backup, it kept on restarting
-Factory reflashed EVERYTHING through fastboot using the "cm-11.0-XNPH25R-bacon-signed-fastboot.zip" I had downloaded from CM's website in case something was not correctly flashed in the factory, but it reboot on me again.
Finally, I want to notice the fact (and this seems very strange to me) that it usually happens while the device is not stressed at all! Every time it happened I was doing very light and simple stuff, like chatting or moving around launcher icons or checking an application's settings. During the above mentioned stability test, it run for 10-20 minutes with constant load on the CPU and RAM with no problem, I then stopped the test manually, and the phone crashed a couple of minutes later when I was browsing through the app drawer! I also tried a game (Riptide) for a while and it run fine. This means it's not a temperature problem either.
Taking all the above into consideration, I am positive that this is a hardware issue I am unable to fix myself and I would like to request a replacement unit. I must mention I am currently in Greece and I want to know if you can send me the replacement directly to Greece, as it's not a new buy so you shouldn't be facing any law-related problems, to spare me the hassle and cost of sending it to my German address and forwarding it to Greece.
I have attached a ZIP archive of the various "last_kmsg" copies I have kept and a second one containing a "last_kmsg" AND a logcat of the same freeze/reboot, hoping they can help you in troubleshooting the problem. I am available for any other needed information.
Thank you for your support, please do not forget to answer my question about shipping to Greece.
Regards,
Spyros

Thorough...
Thorough, as always...
I've got same problem with my one. But for me it usually happens when my battery is fully charged. Wanted to figure out the reason too, so it would be nice if you'll keep writing about the situation. Good luck!
I will update here with any news but I suggest you open an RMA ticket with OnePlus as most probably this is not going to solve itself and it will take them some time to respond to you anyway.

That's bad
Tech support replied today. Apparently, they did not get the attachments and I was asked to resend them, but it was pretty impressive that I got a reply next day after everything I have read about them being so slow to react.
On a side note, I got a new last_kmsg that shows an "AHB bus error" coming from the graphics driver right before the disaster and noticed on a previous one an error coming from "qup_i2c" so it's probablt a faulty processor... (I'll include the log in the OP, it's #9)
Was anyone able to solve problem with reboot loop?
I am having the same thing only that my log is this:
Code:
38.142516] SMSM: Modem SMSM state changed to SMSM_RESET. [ 38.142819]
Fatal error on the modem. [ 38.142992] modem subsystem failure reason: :Excep :0:Exception detected. [ 38.143159] subsys-restart: subsystem_restart_dev(): Restart sequence requested for modem, restart_level = RELATED. [ 38.143312] Notify: start reset
51.374367] Kernel panic - not syncing: [ed777000]: Timed out waiting for error ready: modem! [ 51.374852] CPU1: stopping
Update: The tech support guy replied the next day saying he escalated my request. However, after all these days (we are close to 2 weeks now) I got no response. I even sent a message asking for a reply on the 7 day mark but was ignored...
Anybody else that has already dealt with their service center? How long did they take to grant you a replacement?

Here comes yet another update. I am quite disappointed by their service. I was forced to open a PayPal dispute for the phone since I got no answer, a nerve-breaking phone and the dispute period was ending. It's been a couple of days now since I did it and still no response
Ok, just an update for future reference.
The problem was resolved December 13, 2014 (they sent out a new device).
I absolutely hated the experience of dealing with their support. That said this is still a great phone and having bought or supplied invites to friends for more than 10 more devices all of which worked flawlessly, I still recommend this as good buy.
Hope their support has gotten better by now that they don't have such a long queue.

Spontaneous reboots

On current firmware: 9.5.20.0 and previous firmware I have spontaneous reboots every +/- 5 days,
so not really bad, but still ideally this should not happen.
Anyone any clue what the cause could be ? And possible fixes ?
around 5 weeks, no reboots here...
Same here, but worse: happens more than once per day. Could it be hardware issue? I'm thinking of doing a complete reset, and try it for a few days without installing any other app, just to test.

CanĀ“t give you support. Another one with no problem regarding this whatsoever.
But it has to be real, since I saw this recognized by MIUI! Either they work on a fix or think to have it sorted out with 9.5.20.
Read/search change logs for more info on this.
Woke up this morning and the mix 2s did a spontaneous reboot again, however, was frozen in the "Android logo" (phone also very hot)
I rebooted and then everything was OK again. Uptime was 199 hours.
I googled a bit and it seems not a widespread issue, could not find any other forums where the problem is mentioned.
So maybe caused by a specific combination of settings / installed apps or something.
That sounds like a hardware issue, not software.
I have Mix2s since july. No reboots til yesterday, when I installed Xiaomi.Eu MIUI 10 stable. I'll try to clean flash everything.
I have random reboots too, its not often. Every week or so. Do you run dual sim?
