Gear 2 Setup - Samsung Gear 2

Screenshot of my setup, that I find gives a good setup and also benefits by keeping the screen wake up off, but the Keep Screen Off option unchecked, meaning when you get a notification the screen comes on and then times out.
Think most including me just ticked every box and didn’t really read what each does (or was that just me) ?
Checking the box means you have to constantly press the button to wake the watch.

Oops forgot to post the image

I like to keep the screen off, but have the gesture detection on so
this is because when i am busy or in a dark room getting the watch light up is very distracting,
finally no notification is more important that whats happening in real life (for me at least)

[APP][FREE][2.2+] IntelliCover - Proximity Sensor Based Screen Control (And MORE)

Finally got my app up and running on the Market and being a die hard xda user, I thought it would only be appropriate to post it here for fellow users to enjoy. =)
IntelliCover is a utility which uses your device’s proximity sensor to control its display and allow fast and efficient access to your phone or tablet.
It turns the screen turns off automatically when you put your device in your pockets, close its flip cover, store the device in a bag, or even just leave the device facing down on a table. As soon as the device is back in your hand the proximity sensor is triggered again, the screen turns back on and your phone is instantly ready for use.
IntelliCover is more feature-filled than any other similar application on the market. And the best part? It's FREE!
Click here to visit the market page and download the app for free
P.S. If you find a bug, I'd appreciate if you could report it to me before giving a bad rating because it usually only takes me less than a day to fix.
*** Features ***

*** Frequently Asked Questions ***
Q) Is it really free? Where are the ads?
Ans) IntelliCover is completely free and has no ads whatsoever!
Q) Do I require a rooted device to use IntelliCover?
Ans) Nope. IntelliCover works on all supported phones and tablets, rooted or unrooted.
Q) Doesn’t using the proximity sensor consume a lot of battery?
Ans) Actually, the proximity sensor consumes minimal power, almost little enough to be insignificant.
Q) What are the ‘Screen On’ and ‘Screen Off’ actions?
Ans) IntelliCover allows you to set events to be triggered when the screen turn on or off. For example, by setting wi-fi to turn on when your screen turns on and setting it to turn off when the screen turns off, you could save a huge amount of battery power.
Q) Can I request a feature?
Ans) Of course! Head over to the Contact section to drop me an e-mail.
Q) Why does IntelliCover keep running in the background?
Ans) It has to run in the background to know when the proximity sensor is triggered.
Q) Can I donate to the developer?
Ans) Not yet but hopefully I’ll have something set up soon.

Hello! I love the app! I just installed it, and it works great so far keep up your good work!
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Seems good, some questions though.
1. Is it supposed to be able to turn the screen on? Take phone out of pocket, proximity sensor detects values that indicate there's nothing near (Sorry, dunno how / what values are calculated / used) and viola, screen on?
2. Dunno if I've set it up incorrectly. But, currently, if I turn on my screen, via the power button (Sony Xperia S), the stock lockscreen will show, and either one of two things will happen. Either I unlock it successfully, and the split second I'm completing the unlock, the phone will screen off, and engage the lockscreen - after unlocking this, can I get into my phone. OR it'll do what I've previously mentioned, without input.

Yup, it turns the screen on as well. The values are pretty much just FAR and NEAR for most proximity sensors, so once it detects that there's no object close to it, it should turn the screen on. If it's not turning on at all, that might be the root of the problem i.e. it might be causing the unlock issue as well...Hmmm...I checked out your phone specs and since you said "stock lockscreen", I think it's safe to assume you're on the stock ROM but are you still on Gingerbread? If so, that partially explains the issue. Some Gingerbread ROMs have compatibility issues with the app that are very similar to what you've described, I have no idea why but I'm still looking into it. I had to fix ALOT of Gingerbread issues to get it working this far lol. If you're not on GB though, I guess I need to hunt for an Xperia and begin testing/debuggin. :fingers-crossed:

Thanks a lot for sharing your app, it looks grate but unfortunately it is not working with my Galaxy note 10.1

I like it! Works fine in my SII stock rom. It will be perfect if i could enable a sound notification when turns off the screen. Not really necessary but cool 4 me (car unlock beep-beep)
Thanks mate!

thanks for the update
working good.
I'm working on adding a widget and changing the design, but if anyone has any better suggestions, I'd love to hear them because design is not as important as functionality.
Love it. great app, and working fine on both my LG Optimus 3D and Samsung Galaxy Note II.
could we have a choice on the notification icon, would be nice to have a small black dot or something. i just like a empty notification bar but understand the need for it to actually be in the notification bar
thanks
other than that this is my fav ap on my phone
won't this drain battery

Yea, it's unfortunate that foregrounding requires the notification icon. You could try using the app without foregrounding, it works for some people. Adding more notification icons should be easy, won't take much time. =) Which ones do you think I should add? A small black dot would disappear on most black status bars (but it'll look like there's an empty space in the status bar so it'll look a little weird)...

The proximity sensor uses very little battery and the app itself is pretty light (4-5MB RAM). So far I've only gotten one deep sleep complaint out of 3500+ downloads but no battery issues.

Finally! Found a way to completely remove the icon and the notification from the status bar when the app is foregrounded. It'll be in the next update (today or tomorrow). It can still be enabled manually from the Notifications section but yea, enjoy the emptiness of your status bar. xP
Pretty Huge Update. Hope you like it!
Version 3.0
-Added Screen On Fix for some phones (Enable in settings)
-Status Bar Notification/Icon will no longer automatically show up when app is foregrounded.
-Added Pocket Mode
-Added Table Mode
-Added Widget
-Fixed Screen On/Off Actions bug
One thing I notice (which is NO WHERE CLOSE to a big deal)
The launcher I use (Nova) I hide the status bar and use a gesture to bring it down. When ever Intellicover turns the screen on, the status quickly shows itself and then goes back hidden, not more than a half second of this, but I cannot select anything on the screen until after that status bar thing happens
I like the concept of the app, and it works fine with my sensors. I have one complaint though, I don't like how when the phone screen turns on, it opens to the Intellicover App. Sure I can set it to go to the home screen, but I don't always want that. Once Intellicover is running, I don't want to ever see it again unless I manually launch it from the app drawer. If I have Chrome open and I have to suddenly put my phone down or in my pocket, I'd like to pull my phone back out and have Chrome still be on the screen, just like happens now using the sleep button.
Turns my dumb flip cover on my note 2 into a smart cover. Thanks

Actually, that shouldn't be happening. Once set you never have to see it again. I'm not quite sure what could be triggering this but if you could provide a little information about the OS/phone model/etc. I could try to get a hold on the device and try to replicate the error...

Ambient Display feature not working

So by default phone is set to Moto display, tried switching to Ambient Display but it does nothing, and reacts the same way as the third option which does not wake screen at all. Just wondering if anybody have similar issue or maybe I'm doing something wrong

Yep. Same thing. I wanted to see the difference, but nothing happens with Ambient Display. I even watched several YouTube videos thinking I was looking for something that it doesn't do, but it doesn't do anything. Tested it with app notifications, texts, reminders, etc. The screen stays off 100%. I wonder how you get it working.....
I got it to work. I did some Googling, and it seems to be triggered by the "press power button to end calls.". I don't know why, but toggling that makes it work for me. You also need at least "swipe" enable for a lock screen. No lock screen means no Ambient Display. The option to toggle the power button is under settings -> accessibility. I have mine set to off, so I just toggled it on, and then back off, turned the screen off, called the phone from another phone, and after the miss call, Ambient Display worked, so I hope it works for all notifications. Haven't had any yet, but if things change I'll post back.
I'll definitely give this a go :good:
I like it better than Moto Display. Here is what I see that is different. Ambient Display doesn't wake when the phone moves, and it doesn't wake by the sensor. What happens is when you get a text, missed call, notification, etc the screen will show the time, and the notifications twice. Meaning if you get a text the Ambient Display comes on two seconds later, and then again five seconds after that. That's it. Moto Display will show you the same info only if you move the phone. It's a toss up, and really depends on what you like. I like Ambient Display since I hate that Moto Display always shows by the slightest move of the phone. Bump the table it comes on. I'd rather have the notice right when I get it, and glance at the screen to see what it is without waking the phone than having to move it to see.

I'm very sorry for posting a sort of off topic post, but nowhere can I find a definitive answer until I read your post (though there are a lot of forums to go through still... It's daunting).
So, moto display as a default the screen comes on by default when you move the phone, regardless of whether you have a notification or not? I wanted my next phone to have double tap to wake so I could avoid the power button most of the time. This appears to accomplish the same end goal.
In comparison, ambient display appears to be more to what the description of moto display leads... It comes on when you have a notification (only). This would lead to pressing the power button often, no?

Correct. With Moto Display you don't really need the power button at all. Just move the phone, and the display comes one to show the time, or time and notifications if there are any. If you touch the screen you can simply unlock the screen, or go into a notification. With Ambient Display if you don't catch the screen coming on when you get a notification you need to press the power button since moving the phone won't light up the screen like Moto Display does.

I just wiped my phone again, and the first setting I set was the ambient display. Now is working! But it sure have bugs to not work before...
BTW: I just figure out that my Moto g 3 (XT1543) is 1 GB RAM only, not 2, like I saw specs on google... I'm really frustrated =(
Hi, if you Cm13 .. then to make Ambient display working .. you must not have any 3rd party LOCKSCREEN except the default..
i mean no other things like Slidejoy, lockscreens ..etc
if they are present, then ambient display will not work !!
try if your ambient display is working by going into Guestmode with ambient ON , then you will get idea

Buggy "Always On" Mode on Samsung Gear S2

When I turn on the "Always On" mode in settings the "just two watch hands" mode sputters (flashing a couple of times) on the screen. Within a second or two the full watch screen then reappears. If I set the watch down on a flat surface, a variant of the same thing happens: the two watch hands (only) will appear for a second or two, then sputter and then the screen goes blank. If I use a digital watch face, it's the same thing except it is the numeric time values in black and white that sputter on and off. I have done a factory reset and it didn't help. If I have an app loaded up, same thing: the screen dims, the watch face sputters on then off again and the app lights back up. I called Samsung tech support and they are a complete joke. I thought that in "Always On" mode you would see just the dimmed watch hands and nothing else most when in watch mode. Help!
For me the Always on works fine with Samsung watch faces, however it behaves erratically with custom watch faces.

Interesting. I've tried it with several of the stock watch faces and with a couple from Mr. Time Maker and they all have the same problem. So, when "Always On" is "On" what happens if you just sit the watch down on a table or something? Does it stay on or does it need to somehow recognize that it is on a wrist? And, do you see just the watch hands when the watch is "idle" and then the full watch screen appears when you lift the phone towards your line of sight? Just trying to get a proper diagnosis here - thanks for your help!
I'm thinking you also have the Wake-up Gesture under the Device setting turned on. If so, these both being turned on can compete with each other. Try turning that off, and see if you like the results. Also, to save battery, the always on watch hands will turn off if the watch senses you set it on a table. Apparently, they will also turn off if you remain still for a prolonged period (30 or 60 minutes?), like laying on a couch or bed.

How would you expect it to behave? I ask because, unless I'm misinterpreting what you are saying, mine does the same thing, but this is how I would expect (and want) it to work.
It seems to me maybe you expect "Always On" model to suppress the display of the full watch screen even the the wake up gesture is enabled and activated. If that is the case, then what you are expecting is inconsistent with the design.

Glad it is working correctly.
I wasn't having your problem but I thought mine was fudged too when I was first playing with it. With it in my hands the ambient mode kept going from screen off to dim w/ the hour/minute hands.
I figured out later it tires to sense when you set the watch down. If you are playing with it, it gets confused. If you set it down on a surface, the screen will go off in ambient mode but will keep the screen lit up when wearing it.
I can't say I have the same problem (Regular Model, Don't use Always On Mode) but another possible reason for it to act erratic when its off your wrist is the watch constantly detects your body to make sure it is on you, this comes into play especially for the auto unlock screen feature for your phone as well as when NFC payments through the watch become available.
Same for me, mine is set to "Always On" is "On", "wake up gesture" is Off, watch face is Modern Utility or BALR, I have it on my wrist and I have two issues:
- When I turn my wrist (to look at the watch) it isn't showing the full display. Have to use a button or the "ring" for this. It worked for several days and then it stopped working. I have done a factory reset already. Seemed to work for a few minutes and then it got confused again.
- Occasionally it even doesn't show the watch hands when in "ambient" mode.
My expectations are:
- "Always On" shows watch face, dial and hands, ALWAYS
- "Aways On" is "Off" shows black screen and when looking at the watch is automatically turns on. Some "smart" watch faces show only dials when screen is "Off"
- "wake up gesture" should not have any impact.
Guys (Gals?), if You want to keep the display turned on all the time, just install 'I am alive' app and have it running in the background.

There are 3 ways to reset the watch:
1- Light Reset
- Factory Reset
2- with restore previous settings & Apps
3- without restoring previous settings & Apps
Using reset-2 did not fix the "Buggy - Always On" issue
Using reset-3 did fix the "Buggy - Always On" issue.

The wake up gesture is initiated by the accelerometer, meaning any movement will wake the watch.

But that is not how it is supposed to work. "Always On" is suppose to show only hands, except with you use the wake up gesture (and that feature is enabled) at which point it will show hands and full watch face.

Just searched and found this thread, had the same issue, turns out the on body detection is the cause, as in if it's not on you it will go off, if you have it on it stays on as in the boring watch hands

[GUIDE] How to have screen auto on/off with any "flip" case

Hey there folks!
Since MiA1 does not have double tap to wake, or you just want funcionality of waking screen and be ready to go with ANY flip case you
might have bought (and screen off when you close it) here is a simple guide to achive so, i have been testing it for 5 days and so far it works flawlessly.
So far im getting only 1% of battery usage overall, meaning the app itself is NOT keeping CPU awake, only the proximity sensor to determine if the case
is closed or not. Really battery friendly overall. Dont know the bad reviews on PlayStore - people moan about anything these days and app does not
work well with any device, but with A1, its a bingo.
1. remove your lockscreen security (set to none) - this is up to you! If you have your phone with you at all times, it
removes the need to do extra steps (draw pattern, PIN, etc...). If you prefer to open case and be taken to locksceen, skip this step!
2. install "EveryCover" DOWNLOAD - !app is add supported! - also, there is paid version which i have so i support the dev, but free one works just as well!
- enter ap and activate the service (works by using Device Admin)
- tick "Auto start at Boot" - so service keeps running after restart
- tick "Service in notification bar" - it will prevent app to be killed by system - more on that later!
- you can even set the time period in which app is inactive (ex. - when you sleep at night)
3. Test the funcinality. Just open and close your case, like you normally would (not 2 times in 1 secs, right ). In my testing of daily usage it almost never "misses".
The screen on is almost instant when you flip the case and screen is set to off after 1 sec of closing case. I tested many many times to see if the screen really switches off, and it
works great. I will also mention that it seems to work even in almost pitch dark (!) and no problems on indoors on evenings etc... It seems that the app is really good at listening to
sensor, or we have a really good proximity sensor on A1!
OPTIONAL STEPS:
Now if you are perfectionist or just like me, 2 things may bother you with this setup, and i will also explain steps how to deal with them.
4. persistant notifications - if you enabled "Service in notification bar" there will be constant notification which may bother you. To deal with this, just long press
on the notification and switch the toggle to the right. (or you can go to app settings and do the same, turn off notifications)
5. "EveryCover running in the background" notification - the last problem you may encounter, altho only the visual one, can be pain to watch. To disable this notification just download this app:
HERE!
Just enter app, grant permission, select "Press to select apps" and choose EveryCover.
You are done! This way, you have:
- working screen on/off solution for ANY flip case
- clean status bar without unnecessary notifications
- persistant service that will NOT be killed by system or after restart
- all that with only 1% of battery usage and no impact on performance what so ever.
Dislclaimer; I am not a dev of any apps mentioned here.
Cheers, hopefully this helps someone!
Magnetic wake / sleep works if you can find a case with magnet placed at correct place built in case.
Phone wakes and sleeps when opened or shut automatically with this feature. Don't be confused with smart cases as not the same thing. I'm late with this reply but works with many phone Inc all my xiaomi phones

Question Notification on outer screen with AOD off

Not sure if this is possible, but thought I would ask. I have AOD off (save battery) but would love to have just the yellow notification dot appear when I have an email or text. Anyway to make that happen?
Thanks

Thanks but does that keep the dot on or just for 15 seconds? What I would like is to be able to look down at my phone (even if I have left it for awhile) and see if I have a message.
I was literally just thinking this! I also have AoD off to save battery. Would love to have a pixel(s) that flash around the screen randomly if/when you have a notification.
Not sure about that. Possibly an app? I don't know that edge lighting is "smart" in that it swaps to the cover.
There are a few apps in the playstore that do this but for regular phones. Will try a couple and see if they can be used on the cover screen

Tap on AOD should use very little battery in standby. On my N10+ it's around .5%@hr with internet/phone enabled.
Quiet time is healthy for you... being available 24/7 is no blessing at all. After I go to bed I rarely look at the phone.
Audible/tactile notifications may be an option in standby too.
There's Edge lighting but that was always less than reliable even with the display on

As long as none of them target a specific display, it should be possible.
Might be worth taking a look at the fold or previous flip to see if they had a solution. Basically any phone that has a cover screen
I found this on the first flip thread:
Notification light in cover display
Hi people, got notification light working on Z Flip with Tasker :) You can modify icon and text its showing. Basically notification of your choice (WA, Telegram, etc. ) triggers it, then Tasker issues notification in every 2 sec. as long as...

It is almost one year, since my first Flip 5G, I am trying to find a solution to have a permanent dot notification on outer screen, no party.
Now with Flip 3, same story.
I do not understand why a developer isn't willing to create an app for that.
I would pay and others would do, as me...
Just tap the screen once and you'll see the dot, double tap to fully wake it up.
I wrote "permanent", meaning that the dot is continuously blinking even with screen off in case of a notification.
In the oneui4 release notes it says it can turn the AOD ON when there is a notification. Im hoping that does what it sounds like because I miss this as well.
The app aodnotify works on the Z Flip3, at least enough to be useful.
Basically you set it up so always on display is off unless a notification is received. Then set it so the screen will turn on and stay on for however long you want. That will make the exterior screen turn on (assuming the phone is closed) for the time you set. I set mine to 2 min and it hasn't had any real effect on battery life. If the phone is open then it can still do edge lighting, blinking dot etc on the main display.
If it wasn't for aodnotify I'd never know when I have a notification unless I stared at the phone all day but with the screen staying on for 2 min I usually notice because I'll catch it in my peripheral vision or when I glance at it.
Recently someone posted code to control the exterior display. It's located here..
Cover Screen Support Campaign
Samsung has done it again with the proprietary meta-data and added their own requirements on using apps on the cover screen, not unlike their silly tags for VR and multi-window. Do you use an app that wouldn't cause any privacy concerns on the...

I'm hoping @Jawomo (dev of aodnotify) will use it to add support for the z Flip3 and future versions of this phone so we can get edge lighting on the exterior screen.
