[Q] Exchange Email Device ID Change - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am hoping someone can help me out. I have my work email setup on my phone using their webmail address. If I use the standard address, i am required to have Maas360 installed, which is not an option with me being rooted. Anyways, if I have the email program I use, which is either Nine or Mail Wise, setup for ActiveSync, my business server will catch it and block me. So, I have to setup the email app to scan for new emails every X minutes.
The problem I am running into, is I did not know that I had to have ActiveSync turned off, so now my device is banned when using Nine mail. So, I tried the same with Mail Wise, and got banned again. Now, on my third app, AquaMail, I have realized the problem, and its working great. However, I would prefer to use Nine mail. When trying to go back into Nine and recreate my account, i get an error that my device is blocked. I get the same error on Mail Wise. Both list a different Device ID. NineXXXXXXX and MailWiseXXXXXXXX. Is there a way to change this ID? I tried creating a new ID in Titanium Backup and that didn't change the IDs in the mail apps.
Thanks to anyone who can help!

you could ask the app developer (he should know it^^) or ask you sys admin. Normally it isn't that hard to unblock a phone (had done that enough).

I tried that. Sent an email a few days ago and haven't heard back.

Do you got a solution? I have the same problem, thx

Reply after very long time, but maybe could help someone else...
Nine email device ID is stored in a text file /data/data/com.ninefolders.hd3/deviceName. Could be changed with root rights. Changes become effective after re-start of Nine

Hey man, i'm in the same boat.
Thanks so much for sharing the solution.
Can you help me how to setup Nine so that it doesn't get blocked again?

Bump
Bump. I have the same issue. Any solution for non-rooted phones?

I recently tried to give Nine a DeviceID by amending this file. The Device ID is saved in the file, but Nine is always announcing the hexadecimal equivalent of that ASCII Device ID to the server. So if your approved ID by the server is in hex format, you can reverse it and put that into the file.
If not (which is my case), I would appreciate anyone who can indicate if there is a string that enforces Nine to keep the Device ID of the file without hex-transformation...

Importing pop3/mail settings for the habitual flasher

I have searched low and high for the answer to this but cannot seem to find it anywhere.
Is there anything similar to the Cabs for WiFi or even a registry template for quickly importing mail setting after a flash/hardreset? Using Sashimi for instance?
Sorry if this is not directly ROM related, but I suppose it is when you want to quickly get all your emails set up having done a flash/hardreset.
Thanks in advance to any who can help?
You can do this with User Customization in a provisions.xml.
I havent even been able to get my phone to download my mail directly to the phone. I have to use IE to go to hotmail. Which programs are out there so I can enter my name and password and the email is delivered directly to the phone without active sync?!!?
The standard "messages" utility built into the phone seems to do it for me. You set up an account as a pop3 or imap and its just like setting one up in outlook express...

hello, i used tiermanns Personal OEMizer find it here http://tiermann.net/index.php?optio...d=3:personal-oemizer&catid=1:Desktop&Itemid=3 i used it to create my provisioning XML.
i then used the task manager provided with sashimi and bam, it worked, or you can use uc.

Right, but when i go to add an account after I enter my user name and password it says "select link below to access windows live hotmail account" and has a link that uses IE to get mail. I had it before where i entered my info and it downloaded it for me automatically.

Perhaps that's because hotmail doesn't support POP3. Maybe you should use an email account that actually supports the protocol that you are using. It isn't the program's fault....it's hotmail's.

Previously hotmail did work on the phone with just a regular POP account.

Hmm...perhaps I am mistaken then. I know a long time ago they allowed POP3 access through Outlook Express only, then eventually dropped that support. I specifically starting using Gmail because it allowed POP3 (and now IMAP) support and was under the impression that hotmail and yahoo didn't with out their pay services.....but I guess that could've changed in the last several years, so I'm sorry if my previous comment was misleading....that was just the way I understood it to be.

I will be releasing a new app this weekend with the latest SASHIMI release called Makisu.
It runs on your device and will create provisioning XMLs for e-mail and wireless settings. You can then import these directly from the app, or during your SASHIMI setups.
Keep your eyes open for it.
Another option is to take a look at spb backup 2. It costs a few bucks but it restores all of the settings for all mail accounts. It even puts all the mail back in your mailboxes. I sync with two exchange servers and two pop3 accounts so its vital for me to get my mail back up anf running as quickly as possible.
With the new rom upgrade mode it works flawlessly between different rom versions.
I have alson found it handy in custom mode to bakup themes and ringtones for easy flawless swaps.
Then I use bengalihs version of tiermans tierautoinstall for my cabs.
Just my 2 cents
@iceman4357
If you use vista, you might be able to setup hotmail on you computer to download to a windows live mail account and then use emoze desktop version to sync it to you phone. I am fairly sure since the release of windows live mail on vista, hotmail will no longer work with a regular pop3. They did this to get people to use live mail. I know a few people that still have hotmail accounts. I will do some diggin and see if there is a better solution.

rjcb23,
Yeah, you should definitely check this out! I actually just used SASHIMI last night (even without Makisu) and it perfectly provisioned my email account. I used the following link for documentation - in post 3 under "EMAIL2 CSPs" he shows the layout and links to Microsoft documentation as well as a GUID generator.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366337
Bengalih's SASHIMI is now my third favorite sashimi (it's really hard to beat hamachi and toro). If you are a habitual flasher you owe it to yourself to give SASHIMI a serious look.

Thanks!
Yeah, actually Makisu is basically going to create the XMLs that SASHIMI imports (or really Makisu can do it stand-alone). It creates the XML files with user inputted information, and even generates the GUID.
I think there are some similar things out there, but this is the only one I know of that will run on the device itself, and do the whole thing.

[Q] Setting up work email

Does anyone know what information I need to set up my work email through my phone. My IT guy says he can do it but they need to take my phone and "do something to it" I don't know what that means but I don't want my company to have access to my private information. Any help would be great. Thanks.

They generally take phone to set up the needed certificates and encryption, based on the respective company policies. It would be best to delete ur personal info when u give to them. You could always set up ur personal data later.

If your company is an Exchange shop, you need your domain, username, password and exchange ActiveSync URL (usually your webmail URL). If your company uses client certs, then he would have to install that - but it is unlikely.
If you sync your Exchange email, your company has the ability to do remote wipe and enforce an unlock PIN.
If you do setup mobile sync yourself, they can see it and if they want they could turn it off or remote wipe - keep that in mind when going around IT. Your best bet, is to clear off anything you find personal - let them set things up, and put your stuff back on. The IT guy, should be able to set thing up in 5 minutes at your desk.
Thanks for the reply. We use lotus notes. I have no idea what type of system that is.
For Lotus Notes, they may have POP or IMAP set up - then it is like setting a normal email account for your personal use - you need server name, login name, password. If you can also sync calendar and contacts, they probably have a companionlink license - it is the only app i know off that syncs everything with Notes. If you want this, you need to let IT do their magic - either way, you probably should talk to the IT guys and find out what method they use.
Thanks I will.

[Q] Change Live ID account without reset possible?

Hi,
All I have being able to research point me to reset my WP7 in order to change the Windows Live account.
Is there any reghack or workaround to avoid this?
Thanks!
Unfortunately, no. Downloaded apps are tied to the account so a reghack won't help.

Actually I do not care much about installed apps (can reinstall and it would be an opportunity to cleanup the list ), but I do about contacts and specially manual effort doing contacts merge from various sources.
Contacts can be either synced in Outlook or you could try the Windows Phone Device Manager
The answer is still you can't change the account, though...
hmm well I dont know about you guys but a reset isnt all that bad. I've reset my phone more then i can count and it only takes like a few minutes at least to get it back to how you want it
Well I for one have tried searching the registry but had no luck thus far. It's gotta be there hidden somewhere and I can only hope one of the talented devs around here can figure it out.
Microsoft have this stupid system where your gamertag/zunetag is region locked. When WP7 launched I signed in with my main gamertag and purchased a couple of games using a prepaid creditcard which had a USA billing address. As that has now expired and I no longer reside in the USA, I had to change my live to a secondary account using a hard reset. Problem is, now I cannot redownload content for which I have already paid for.
It's really rather pathetic that MS haven't had the foresight to see this problem. And it continues to escilate as more people move around the world.
You should definitely hammer support on this issue. I'm sure you'll sort it out in the end, but you're going to hassle a bit for sure
you need this
he, i am new user, i post a link, but 4rum not permitted
i copied:

"User"[email protected]
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\Environment\Pr oduction]
"DefaultID"[email protected]
Provisioning file:
Code:
2) Reboot phone.
Now you on new LiveID email without factory reset!
outhor: ok-interesting.blogspot
------------------------------------------------
Or just use my Supreme Shortcuts app and there is a shortcut to the live id setup
Change windows live id without reset; tried today
I tried the registry editor change:
1. You have to change two values, not one. Mail and Account must both be changed.
2. I don't know if it mattered, but I chose to change the server from m.Hotmail.com to the new one for my live account (ie subservername-m.Hotmail.com)
3. Also need to change current user\software\Microsoft\identitycrl\environment defaultID
I tried it today and it worked quickly.
Thanks for the work iLoveHD7
or you can deploy this small app View attachment IDswitch.xap and find it in your phone Settings .

Is there are Reg hack to change the Live ID email address

Because of the stupid limitation of not being able to change the Live ID login details, I was wondering if there is a reg hack to change the email address the live id has on the phone.
I have not created a new live id, just simply change the default email address on my existing one. So all the data will be the same, but I don’t want to hard reset the phone and lose all my SMS etc.
Thanks in advance.

I suspect there is no easy reg hack for this since the first account that was added is deeply entrenched within many components... marketplace, xboxlive, etc.
Did you try to add the new live account and see if the option to delete the first one becomes available when there are 2 live IDs?
Yes, unfortunately it treats the first one in a special way, only giving you the option to not sync email. Any additional accounts are treated just like a normal exchange account with Contact, Task and Calendar all options.
Looks like a hard reset is the only way.
Is there an easy way to backup text messages in Mango?
A quick slightly off topic question.
If I were to hard reset my phone, what would happen with my phone being unlocked? Would I have to do anything after the hard reset?
I would imagine so, but am unsure...

[Q] recover password from email app

Hi Guys,
my University has this dumb policy that you need to change your password every month. So I did that and immediately changed it on the phone too, so that I can receive my mails. The mail login is the same as on the main platform of the university. Now I need to login in the main platform in order to get the payment information for the new semester, but can't remember the freaking password. A simple reset or forgotten option is unfortunately not available. If you've forgotten your password, you need to go to a special facility where a pin code is handed out. With that you can reset your password. Bad luck me, I'm out of town and can't go to that facility. So is there any way to view the password that is stored in the android stock email app. I'm using android 4.4.
I would really appreciate your help.
Kind regards,
Martin
