I have searched low and high for the answer to this but cannot seem to find it anywhere.
Is there anything similar to the Cabs for WiFi or even a registry template for quickly importing mail setting after a flash/hardreset? Using Sashimi for instance?
Sorry if this is not directly ROM related, but I suppose it is when you want to quickly get all your emails set up having done a flash/hardreset.
Thanks in advance to any who can help?
You can do this with User Customization in a provisions.xml.
I havent even been able to get my phone to download my mail directly to the phone. I have to use IE to go to hotmail. Which programs are out there so I can enter my name and password and the email is delivered directly to the phone without active sync?!!?
The standard "messages" utility built into the phone seems to do it for me. You set up an account as a pop3 or imap and its just like setting one up in outlook express...

hello, i used tiermanns Personal OEMizer find it here http://tiermann.net/index.php?optio...d=3:personal-oemizer&catid=1:Desktop&Itemid=3 i used it to create my provisioning XML.
i then used the task manager provided with sashimi and bam, it worked, or you can use uc.

Right, but when i go to add an account after I enter my user name and password it says "select link below to access windows live hotmail account" and has a link that uses IE to get mail. I had it before where i entered my info and it downloaded it for me automatically.

Perhaps that's because hotmail doesn't support POP3. Maybe you should use an email account that actually supports the protocol that you are using. It isn't the program's fault....it's hotmail's.

Previously hotmail did work on the phone with just a regular POP account.

Hmm...perhaps I am mistaken then. I know a long time ago they allowed POP3 access through Outlook Express only, then eventually dropped that support. I specifically starting using Gmail because it allowed POP3 (and now IMAP) support and was under the impression that hotmail and yahoo didn't with out their pay services.....but I guess that could've changed in the last several years, so I'm sorry if my previous comment was misleading....that was just the way I understood it to be.

I will be releasing a new app this weekend with the latest SASHIMI release called Makisu.
It runs on your device and will create provisioning XMLs for e-mail and wireless settings. You can then import these directly from the app, or during your SASHIMI setups.
Keep your eyes open for it.
Another option is to take a look at spb backup 2. It costs a few bucks but it restores all of the settings for all mail accounts. It even puts all the mail back in your mailboxes. I sync with two exchange servers and two pop3 accounts so its vital for me to get my mail back up anf running as quickly as possible.
With the new rom upgrade mode it works flawlessly between different rom versions.
I have alson found it handy in custom mode to bakup themes and ringtones for easy flawless swaps.
Then I use bengalihs version of tiermans tierautoinstall for my cabs.
Just my 2 cents
@iceman4357
If you use vista, you might be able to setup hotmail on you computer to download to a windows live mail account and then use emoze desktop version to sync it to you phone. I am fairly sure since the release of windows live mail on vista, hotmail will no longer work with a regular pop3. They did this to get people to use live mail. I know a few people that still have hotmail accounts. I will do some diggin and see if there is a better solution.

rjcb23,
Yeah, you should definitely check this out! I actually just used SASHIMI last night (even without Makisu) and it perfectly provisioned my email account. I used the following link for documentation - in post 3 under "EMAIL2 CSPs" he shows the layout and links to Microsoft documentation as well as a GUID generator.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366337
Bengalih's SASHIMI is now my third favorite sashimi (it's really hard to beat hamachi and toro). If you are a habitual flasher you owe it to yourself to give SASHIMI a serious look.

Yeah, actually Makisu is basically going to create the XMLs that SASHIMI imports (or really Makisu can do it stand-alone). It creates the XML files with user inputted information, and even generates the GUID.
I think there are some similar things out there, but this is the only one I know of that will run on the device itself, and do the whole thing.

I am trying out qmail for a variety of reasons.
One thing I am finding frustrating is that qmail issues a lock in the folder where mail is stored. If I soft reset, the lock persists because I have the mail stored on the miniSD card, but this means I get the question "WM_user has locked the file, do you want to continue?" Answering yes clears it but since I want the program to run automatically at start up, I would like to eliminate the query. Is there a way to prevent the locking or, if not, to prevent the question?
Second, I went to the trouble to install a bunch of RSS feeds, none of which render properly. The nature of the problem is that html commands aren't being rendered, even with "html mode" checked. I tried a bunch of different settings (quote mode, raw mode, etc.) but none of them led to proper rendering. Clearly others using the program aren't having this trouble; can you point me in the direction that would let me see these feeds? I like the idea of a single program doing mail and RSS, all from the SD card.
I've been using qmail for a while now, and I've found the locked file problem is caused when qmail is running and your PPC is turned off. qmail doesn't seem to handle this very well, but if you shut qmail down before turning your PPC off you don't get the locked file issue.
As to the rendering html rss feeds, I've found this happens only when you are online and try and view the feed. If you are offline you just get a blank page, but if you turn the html view off you get the raw view of the feed.
Not a perfect program, but a whole lot better than the built in one.
Cheers
Mark
Automate deletion?
Azol (http://www.azol.ru/texts/QMail3_eng_FAQ.htm) has a means of automating the checking of mail, and of semi-automatically deleting messages from the server when they are deleted from Inbox. I would like to automate this process -- adding a command to apply the rules using autopilot. Does anyone know how to do this?
Also, has anyone figured out how to put the number new messages Qmail has found on the Today screen? That isn't so important to me -- I'm planning on using Qmail for travel rather than as my regular service -- but it would help make it a complete replacement.
Finally, Qmail doesn't work one-handed very well; it would be nice if some of the Dpad keys did useful things.

You may want to use for example nScriptm to start Qmail: instead of just starting Qmail via a lnk file, just delete the lock file from a nScriptm script and, then, Shell () Qmail. Please see for example my latest screenshot-related article for more info on nScriptm.
Or Skschema
Thanks. I figured out how to do this with skschema, as in order to run qmail automatically from the minisd card, I need to delay launching; programs in Windows/Startup start up before the miniSD is available (I even tried a faster card to see if this would fix it, but it didn't) and hence don't start and generate errors. I use skschema to start qmail, and also to start phmtraylaunch since the icons from the minisd card aren't available, either, at the time it starts.

Yup, SKSchema / nScriptm is also a great tool to do this. With earlier PMRecorder versions, I did need to use it (see for example http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=513&c=1&page=1&more=1&tb=1&pb=1 if interested) to avoid the \Storage Card2 problem
Qmail is perfect for me, with one exception. When I hit reply, the original message fills the page. I just want a clean screen to type my reply, and I don't want to include the original. This program does practically everything but this. Any ideas?
Thanks

This can indeed not be got rid of.
You can, however, just tap and hold the screen, choose Select All and, then, just click Delete on the Keyboard SIP to get rid of eveyrthing.

qmail questions
I'm having a huge problem sending email with qmail. One thing that would help is if I understood all the settings in the program, which are different from anything else I have ever seen, probably due to it being translated from Japanese. In tool/account/general, I understand that host information refers to the incoming and outgoing servers, but what is to be put in "user information". Is "address" an email address? "User" tab seems simple enough, as I use authentication and just enter the same in "outgoing" as in "incoming". "Detail" is simple enough. "Pop3" as well, though I don't know what apop is. "SMTP" tab; what do I do here? I don't think I am using a local host. "Dialup" is ok. In "advanced" I read on this forum that my email address should go in "identity". Is this right? If so, would this be the address of the account I receive email with or of the account I send with(if they were different)? I have a comcast account on cingular service. The messaging program can receive and send email using mail.comcast.net and smtp.comcast.net with authentication and no ssl, but qmail can't. Two months ago it could, but now it cannot. Now I"m going to try using a hotpop account to send, but I'm not real confident this will work, since I'm not sure h ow to configure qmail. Any help would be apprecited, Meinnesyss or anyone else.

My AT&T Fuze display broke the other day. I managed to use MyMobiler to access the phone and back up (using Sprite Backup), and restore the backup on the new phone. The restore worked great, however, I now have a e-mail account on my e-mail tab that I cannot access to remove. If I go to my accounts, the account is not listed, so I cannot delete it. I also cannot access the inbox of the account.
Does anyone know how to remove this phantom account. It is a file or registry setting?
Thanks!

There is always a "phantom" one there, it is for outlook.
P.S. Good job with the my mobiler, you obviously searched unlike most noobs.
Welcome to XDA
You can get rid of it on your tf3d by connecting to you're computer via active sync, and unchecking the email box for what to sync.
I may not have explained this properly.
I am not referring to the Outlook default mail account.
On my old Fuze, I had an account setup to get my GMail. This worked great. When I backed up and restored on my new Fuze, this GMail account was still listed on the Mail tab, but I am unable to open the mailbox and this account is no longer listed under my mail accounts.
Any suggestions?
I've got the same issue. My 1st fuze got swapped out for a power issue it had. Did a full backup and restore with Sprite. The restore did NOT setup my alternate IMAP gmail accounts I had configured on the 1st one ... but I have the ghosts of them in TF3D tab. I can see all the accounts, and even flick through the email that was on the original unit at the time of the backup.
I've setup the accounts manually again, but now I have duplicate account appearances on the TF3D screen.
I tried reinstalling the Manila cab.
Tried removing, rebooting and re-adding the Email tab with Diamond TF3D config too. No effect.
Can't find any specific references in the registry for the email tab.
I posted a thread here too last week. Got one hit on it.

You need to delete cemail.vol. The file is locked while the phone is on, so you'll need to use Mortscript to delete it on boot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429784&highlight=cemail.vol+mortscript
Perfect!
Thanks for the point in the right direction!
I'm shocked that everyone is going through such effort to solve this problem when there's a program on the Sprite back up site that fixes the issue.
http://spritesoftware.crmdesk.com/a...earch=Search&area=0&criteria=0&sort=0&start=0
Though the article states it will delete all data, it didn't on my device. I was able to see my ghost IMAP account that would show up on the TF3D tab, but not in the messaging app itself.
I also use an AT&T Fuze
uh. . . maybe because no one Knew about it?
Thanks for the Link.
I have the same exact issue.. except I am using Sbp Backup ... but I think I'll try deleting the cemail.vol
I was also having a problem with 2 phantom email accounts in TF2D email tab after a backup - they were not shown in the accounts menu.
I used SKTools (Full Version) to scan all PIM information (actual heading 'Delete PIM information') which showed all accounts - highlight the phantom account/s, and then select 'delete account' from the action button.
All fixed - thanks all for the push in the right direction.
I am having the same phantom gmail account from a sprite backup on the fuze after getting rid of att bloat. I wish there was an easier way.
There is an easier way
Unzip the attached file to your device and run it. It will enumerate all accounts, even the hidden ones. You can choose to delete them or change settings. Whatever you need.

not working for me
Not sure what I am missing, but I see no option for deleting an account, only Repair, from the Feb 3 09 mailAccountRepair attachment. When the "busy circle" starts after selecting Repair, it does not finish (at least in 30 sec). Whether I Quit or not before soft reset, no changes are present. Any help appreciated.
HTC Touch Pro (Sprint), ROM 1.03, Nov 2008
Yes, please help. I have my work outlook (activesync) account that I want on there. I have to other email accounts (ie pop) that I want to delete and I can find no way to do it. HTC Touch Pro.
Thanks!
I had the same issue you're having, after exchanging my first Fuze out due to a problematic screen. When I restored the backup on to my new Fuze, I had the same ghost accounts. What I simply did was a hard reset, then when I ran Sprite I deselected the box that restores backed up emails. The restore went without a hitch, then I went into outlook and simply recreated my email accounts. After a couple minutes, I had all the email back.
Easiest way? Prolly not, but it worked for me.

i moved from windows mobile to android just about a month ago, and to be honest android is substantially better in every way possible, been loving it
now the only thing that has really bothered me is that the default email app from android is a piece of crap... unless you use gmail of course because gmail only has labels and it flushes all your email to a single folder.
i use hotmail and i receive many emails so i do need to use the folders, and i have to have them organized as such in my phone. windows mobile used arcsoft to organize the folders, and it worked great, but i haven't found a similar alternative on android or the market, does anyone know of one?
i even have an iTouch and there is an application in the iOS market that will arrange your emails into folders like they are found in my e-mail...
any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

Android email does use folders. It is up to the email provider to provide the folders by the protocols they use. To get folders you must use IMAP email protocol. I believe most have it but I do know hotmail does not have it. They used to when you paid for the yearly service but they no longer support it. You can only do hotmail by POP.
Oh forgot to add when you are in your email if you go to menu it will have the folders option to select

k9 does it, just not by default, you gotta mess with the settings...i dont have it installed right now but you need to change some folder view to none in account settings....it will be on inbox by default. when you change it to none all your imap folders will show up.
sorry i dont know the exact setting
K9 definitely does ALL my gmail folders and my other imap folders as well. you have to learn their folder structure and then its easy. There is a tutorial on their site i think. Its called folder classes, you chose what class to designate the folder, and then you chose general class display and sync settings.
What does QFT mean? edit> QUOTED FOR TRUTH ...nice thats a new one to me! lol
gmail doesn't have folders...
and what do you mean by class? will it filter all messages and put them on a folder due to keywords or something like that?
gmail has labels = folders
download k9 mail and explore its display/sync structure and itll make sense. If you want to filter by keyword then you need to set that up in gmail, not your mail client on the phone.
For example, I have a filter that filters everything with the word craigslist in it and puts it in a label called Craigslist. Then on the phone, if I see that folder/label in k9.
Not to sound rude, but ditch hotmail. its a terrible email service. The whole point of android is to embrace google/gmail!
gmail's labels -do not- = folders
why? because labels filter email's by keywords.
on email clients that support folders, you can grab a bunch of different emails from many different places and put them into one folder because they have a common trait for you that a single keyword could not narrow down.
also if you have folders you can forward all mail from a certain domain to that folder...
anyways the list goes on. i knew someone would say that, if i could replace my hotmail with a gmail i would, but for reasons beyond this thread that is not an intelligent thing to do for me, i have a lot of business, and accounts linked to that email, and that is impossible.
i also have 2 separate gmail accounts that i use for other things. i know gmail is better as far as speed, but defenetly not for organization. teens might be ok with labels, but professional people need folders. and anyways hotmail is no longer a slow email client like it was 4 years ago, it's actually very fast now.
ok so now back to k-9... ok so you're saying that k9 doesn't actually have the ability to create folders?? because you just said that i have to set up the labels on my gmail?? so then that means i can't create folders?
wow... if only microsoft wheren't such sour grapes, they should create a windows mobile app for droid...

No, not JUST by keywords, they can filter by recipient, sender, keyword, subject, message, with/without attachment or even lack of words

I do this with 2 of my private domains., because you can filter my recipient, or sender. My private domains have their own labels within gmail.
Not to sound like a mean guy, but I am not a teenager. I have 2 businesses that I run/live off of email and if I can make the switch from outlook to Gmail, I have no idea what great argument you can provide that would be valid. EVERYTHING outlook did, gmail does, albeit slightly differently...
my argument is that i need to use THAT email account and no other, like i said, if that was an option i would've switched 5 years ago, so stop arguing BS.
i need a sort of hotmail imap support app, or something... because i read that imap will preconfigure your folders for your email client app.

Actually I do not care much about installed apps (can reinstall and it would be an opportunity to cleanup the list ), but I do about contacts and specially manual effort doing contacts merge from various sources.
Contacts can be either synced in Outlook or you could try the Windows Phone Device Manager
The answer is still you can't change the account, though...
hmm well I dont know about you guys but a reset isnt all that bad. I've reset my phone more then i can count and it only takes like a few minutes at least to get it back to how you want it
Well I for one have tried searching the registry but had no luck thus far. It's gotta be there hidden somewhere and I can only hope one of the talented devs around here can figure it out.
Microsoft have this stupid system where your gamertag/zunetag is region locked. When WP7 launched I signed in with my main gamertag and purchased a couple of games using a prepaid creditcard which had a USA billing address. As that has now expired and I no longer reside in the USA, I had to change my live to a secondary account using a hard reset. Problem is, now I cannot redownload content for which I have already paid for.
It's really rather pathetic that MS haven't had the foresight to see this problem. And it continues to escilate as more people move around the world.
You should definitely hammer support on this issue. I'm sure you'll sort it out in the end, but you're going to hassle a bit for sure

2. I don't know if it mattered, but I chose to change the server from m.Hotmail.com to the new one for my live account (ie subservername-m.Hotmail.com)

I have searched for this application for a long time and tried whole bunch of them, but I am still looking for SOLID, SIMPLE, and STRAIGHTFORWARD application to save Call log entries into Outlook Journal.
My setup:
Windows 7 32-bit
Outlook 2007 SP2
HD2 with latest T-Mo ROM and Cookie Home Tab installed.
Applications I tried:
Maniac's SmartJournal - so far the best solution and worked flawlessly on the XP. Since I switched to Windows 7 it shows that the SmartJournal reads from the device, the notification disappears and nothing happens. Maniac's website is down, so I cannot find out what is going on.
Pocket Informant Outlook Extension - since it is now free as Informant stopped supporting Windows Mobile, I tried it, it seems that it works and does some synchronizing according to the log, but no entry shows up the Journal.
Jeyo Outlook Extension - they used to support Outlook Journal in their version for Symbian, but in their Windows Mobile they only synchronize SMS.
MobiTNT - I tried that software as well, but I am not able to enable the software on the computer.
I know that there is also some app for syncing call log into calendar but it seems way too akward.
I know that there are many threads about this all over the Xda, but they seem to be old for one and do not end up with comprehensive solution afterall.
I would like to this post to become comprehensive and one stop solution for somebody who is looking for the solution like me.
Any ideas are welcome.
Nobody? Really? Really?
I Feel your pain
I used to use Calls to Journal from Chapura with my windows handheld. Strangely it is now discontinued.
It was slick, and perfect. Dumped all calls to Outlook journal and tagged the outlook contacts (so that they showed up in activites). Was perfect in my business when someone denied that you called them.
I can't find anything that compares. Not even close. The other ones like "missing sync" try to do too much and do not include this very simple functionality.
Have you had any luck?
Well, I finally managed to make the Maniac's Smartjournal work and it works great. It transfers the calls into Journal and tags for the known Contacts so it shows in Activities.
If you would like to try it, I have the .exe files since the website is no longer active. The files are really small and the program is no memory hog by any means. I tried Jeyo and it just crashes Outlook.
Let me know.
Another one
I wish i could be more helpful but there is one applicatoin which i have used in the past but have since forgotten the name whichvery simply adds an appointment into outlook which lasts for the duration of the call, with the title of whoever the conversation was with.
this might be the one i was thinking of. I'm gonna check it now.

post the files please & details you have on them & any special instructions on getting it working.
One of the biggest mistakes MS made was not having WM & its PC software linking together with complete harmony & user control.
Really are a clueless bunch at redmond HQ ...
I am attaching the rar file. There are two files. One is SmartJournal.exe and the other is SmartJournal Beta.exe Try first the SmartJournal.exe run as admin and compatibility with XP SP2. Sometimes it shows the error that the CallLog.csv cannot be dumped. If that is the case, uninstall the SmartJournal and install the Beta (again as administrator and compatibility mode XP SP2). Maniac had a great forum unfortunatelly that website is no longer active.
Let me know if you have any trouble.
Take 2
I just realised my previous post was totally useless since I never included the link. I've been using Call Calendar for the past few days which works really well, recording the time, duration, who the call was with and who called who silently into outlook, which will then obviously sync over activesync or exchange. you can get it here:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-call-calendar.html
then again while searching for that link i found this program, Phonelog- it's newer and seems to have additional features like recording incoming SMS. I think you can customise what is recorded too, it might be worth a shot:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-phonelog.html
I've never used Outlook journal, so I don't know how much functionality you lose as a result of these being purely appointments. Hope it oculd be useful though.
Thanks for the post and link. I prefere not to use the calendar for syncing, because than the entries eat up the screen when I view my calendar appointments. Also, I always felt siunce the Journal has a Phone log category it is more obvious to use it rather than calendar. Also, I make LOT of calls on given days and then my calendar looks like mess between the actual appointments and the phone call. Also, I checked the review section on freeware.com and lot of people complain about the SMS not working (which would be the only feature why I would consider this software). But great addition to the post and thanks for the links.

You can try MobileArchiver (mobilearchiving.com) - for me works perfectly and puts all call history in journal every sync.

If the call history is full, I mean 300 items, there is a great chance that the PC app tries to read the calllogdump.csv on the pda while it is already accessed by the pda (it is written) and therefore paralell reading fails.
Solution: backup call log, and after that, delete some 50-100 entries manually. Sync works then nicely...

Another possible solution is to run Smartjournal.exe on pc, it copies the dump exe to Device\Temp, and runs, and this creates the csv. Navigate to this folder (My Device\Temp) and make the csv read only.
Running the pc side returns an error on the PDA, but the log will be read and data transferred.
Now remove read only from csv, move to pc, leave only the last entry, delete all the rest, save, move back to PDA.
Run pc side, all should be good now. You will have a lastsync.txt created in the PC folder of Smartsync. Sync finished.
Update:
--------------------------------------
Mobitnt PocketExport does the job for some days, no errors, I think I keep using this app
