While playing games, just swipe upside down and you'll see status bar and suddenly swipe down from the center of the screen to access notifications.

cant figure out can u post steps or screenshot
tried all but cannot open notification area while in a game can only scroll on edge screen

I think It only works when the app/game support landscape and patriot orientations.
Or
If you flip the phone 180° in landscape so the edge is down, a small swipe on the top (now opposite the edge) does what I think you want.

ya opposite edge it should work but most apps work in landscape facing edge on top
so there is no way to access notification area that way?

Unfortunately nope. I think we should wait for an update

On KK you could use App Settings (Xposed) to force apps to accept both landscape orientations, but no such luck on L. That's what I've done for all my games that were locked to one orientation by default.

First world problem: Keep the screen from turning off?

I have a first world problem: When I'm on a call and want to access the notification bar, my screen turns off--I think because the light sensor is effected by my hand.
Use case: I'm on a call, realize I want to switch to Bluetooth, and want to go to the notification bar to access settings or click on the bluetooth tile, but the screen goes dark. So, I have to put the phone down, and carefully access the bar making sure my hand doesn't get in the way. Is there a way to get around this?
UPDATE: I just got an answer from someone else off this board: While on a call, press the "home" button/icon that takes you to your launcher and then access the Notification bar--the screen will then stay on without a problem.

I just posted a fix to my original post, above.
Alternately... You could install a launcher with gesture setting as to double tap in the home screen to toggle/expand notification bar.. So you don't have to get your fingers near the top at all... Cheers

[Q] Top bar visibility when rotated with edge side up.

What I watch a video and want to know the time im used to swipe from the top down. This works with phone in portrait en langscape with edge down. I like the edge up with video's bit then how to access the status bar?
You can't.
I hate that we can't. I also like the edge side up when watching videos. It's just more comfortable to hold.

I agree. I spent some time trying to figure out a way to make a shortcut to pull down the notification menu so that I wouldn't have to use the normal "pull down" method. Couldn't find anything.
It feels natural for me to hold the edge up.
I use Next laucher with a swipe down gesture to access the notification panel.

That works regardless of the app you are in?
Thought I stumbled across a fix. Our very own @xodAslan navigation app for the edge panel has a notification panel button but it doesn't work with the edge screen up.

It works with the edge panel down though. Seems like we have to undo something Samsung coded in.

Notification shade works while screen locked

Others may know this, but it was a surprise to me.
With the screen locked, you can still swipe down on notification bar and access the quick settings tiles and the screen brightness slider. Some of the tiles are locked out, but you can switch between sound, vibration or muted, and turn on or off the following WiFi calling, Do not disturb, flashlight, Always on display, Airplane mode, Power saving (but not Ultra), and Auto rotate.
Tapping on any of the other tiles will bring up the pin/password entry screen. Tapping the settings icon or Quick connect also brings up the pin/password keypad.
The fact that you can toggle airplane mode on is troubling. That means someone who finds your phone, and knows, can prevent you from locating / wiping the phone with Android device manager.
Correct, that's a HUGE security issue. Removed airplane mode from my choices.

But im sure you can still get into it by clicking the edit button. To remedy this i use screen lock protector from the play store also cerberus has option to lock power off and notification drop down.

Unfortunately, though, I discovered you can tap the down arrow to open the full quick settings panel, and use airplane mode from there. No way to prevent it at the moment.
Or they can just turn it off?

Yep. That's crazy they would allow that. Someone needs to bring it to Samsung's attention!

Hide Navigation Bar Buttons/Immersive Mode?

Hello,
Has anyone found a way to hide the navigation bar buttons or toggle immersive mode? By having the home key buttons slide out of the way when not in use, it makes the bezels appear much smaller and really takes advantage of more screen space. Both LG and Samsung have this feature built into their system options and I've noticed how much better many apps look when it's enabled. Plus, it may help with the apparent screen burn-in issue. I just tried loading the GMD Full Screen Immersive Mode app on a demo Pixel 2 XL at a Verizon store and it kind of worked, but not in all apps. It worked great in Chrome and Maps, but not in Twitter or the NFL Mobile app. In those apps, the buttons hid out of the way, but the black bar stayed. I'm considering purchasing a Pixel 2 XL, but this one feature has been holding me back. Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated.
Have a great day!

Thank you sir this works perfectly, you can also enable immersive statusbar. Now my screen is seems a bit bigger and I don't have to worry about the burn in. Jesus this app just made me fall in love with this phone ?

I've tried using this on my Pixel 2 a couple times. The grant permissions are given, but the app shows it is not compatible with the device.
**UPDATE** and now just letting it sit on the test screen (had to do something else) it shows it can.

Once you've granted permission the test screen seems to stall so you need to close the app and open it again
Can someone explain how to setup adb? Thank you.

I just did this mod on my Pixel 2. I hid the navbar which gives me more screen space, very cool. Thanks.
would the 18:9 aspect ratio of the 2xl just hide the buttons or would it stretch the screen?

Did anyone else have trouble getting the permission to work? I followed exactly but got nothing.
No, no problem.
You can also LeeDroid's Shortcutter app for this purpose - I've used that to put a toggle for immersive mode in my notification shade. Both that and Custom Navigation Bar work fine on my phone, but if you are having trouble with one you could try the other. You have verified that ADB is working (e.g. a quick "adb devices")? I had to update it on my laptop before it would work with my Pixel.
I finally got it all to work just took multiple times of opening and closing the app. Are we unable to completely get rid of the nav bar without root? Im using swipe navigation but the nav bar keeps coming up.
Why can't google make this an option like samsung?

notch implementation

guys, i was thinking oneplus should have notch area in such a way that it should show all the info(time, signal, battery) it shows normally for those apps for which we are not using full screen mode instead of blacking it out like a bar..like a second screen. what do you guys say?
Isn't that how it already works? Or is that only when fullscreen mode is enabled?

supposed i am using an app which i kept in 'default' mode which means the notch area will be a black bar. so instead of that black bar, can't we have time, signal, battery etc on the notch area?
for example, when watching videos on youtube, playing games or using some apps, the notch area isn't used at all. why not use it for showing informations?
