Hi
I'm in the process of installing a Android-stick in my car by HDMI to display on the original 7" screen and controlled with a touch-plate overlay.
That part is done and its working, but with such a low res screen (800x480 native) with stick running 720p the menus and text become unreadable even in "huge" mode. This i was able to more or less fix by using an app "Resolution Changer" which allows for changing resolution and DPI.
Problem is that icons will start to overlap/cut eachother if tweaked too muuch and app names disappear, also the standard android menu and statusbar remains tiny.
My biggest problem now, after trying a different launcher, this one with a "windows 8" kind of layout, all icons are on top of eachother and I cant switch launcher back or find the icon for settings or Resolution Changer.
Hope anyone have tips on how to solve it other than reflashing, well, Its not a biggie, but would prefer not to.

Hi,
I have just tried a Xoom in a shop. At the bottom and the top of the screen there were status bars. Is it possible to move these bars to the side of the screen or hide them fully? They take a lot of screen area mainly in landscape position. Web browsing does not look comfortable with this screen setup.
No, you cannot hide the status bar in Honeycomb (and neither in ICS iirc) per default: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=15408
There are apps for that though: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.hanhuy.android.hsbm
This app will not work on ICS
BTW what are the benefits of Honeycomb and ICS over older Android releases? Effective usage of widescreen is not...
The Xoom does run completely in widescreen - it has a 16:10 display, like most laptops, that bottom portion is "extra" space for the status bar, just like on a "Windows" laptop, that bottom space is used to display on-screen controls when watching a movie, etc., so that the actual movies and such are displayed in true 16:9 without any distortion. All "real" Android tablets are like this.

My problem is with web browsing and/or text reading. The status bars leave only a narrow but unnecceassary long bar for reading. Ipad has 4:3 screen without bottom status bar. Much more natural.
Why can not be moved the status bar to the left or right side of the screen like taskbar in windows?
Why not run in portrait mode if needing to scroll much

I performed the flash version of the CM10 build 12102012 (even if there is a problem I had with build 11102012 e10102012) and in gallery, I realized that the instantaneous loading does not appear, and as if nothing is synchronized with the gallery. The instantaneous loading is configured and running.
In addition to this problem I have problems with landscape mode icons are not aligned
)
I have I more problem.. I cannot seem to get my home screen in portrait mode in basic Launcher . Its always in landscape mode. Another problem is , if I hide the bottom bar which contains back/home/running apps , then I cannot navigate if I go in any of the apps.
Can someone tell me, whether it is possible to customize the bottom bar with the notification bar, 2 bars in one screen have greatly reduced the viewing space width wise

Solved the problem with ladscape mode.. I just had to set up the NOVA launcher .. what I observed, is erratic scaling, when we turn the device from landscape to portrait mode. I know this may not be the appropriate to post bugs here , or direct questions, and no one seems to answer it also ...
Is there a way to change the color of the status bar icons yet?
The stock white is killing me, My eyes are not what they use to be. In past phones I had changed them to a bright green which was easy to read.
I would also be happy If I could make those icons larger somehow.
I also have a hard time seeing the notifications on my lock screen, Larger text would be great.
One would think Android would give us an option for visually impaired just like they did for the hearing impaired
Thanks
You could go to settings -> display -> zoom screen and font
There you can change the size of things on your screen, and make fonts bigger.
Thanks, I just tried that, it doesnt change the size of the status bar nor the lock screen notifications
So recently i started to notice that in my home screen (touchwiz or other launchers) at the top of the screen there is some grey lines it is best visible if i use a black wallpaper and set the brightness to the maximum. This doesn't show anywhere except on the home screen. I tried other wallpapers, and if i look at it in the gallery or turn on ultra power saving mode there is no grey lines.(my device is galaxy s6)
Does anyone know what it is? Or how to fix it?
(i hope you guys can understand me sry for my english)
So, if you switch to your pictures and images gallery, the lines disappear?
Did you drop your device on the floor or did it incurred any damages lately?

It's a common issue. It's stupid Touchwiz/Samsung system which creates a small overlay at the top of Homescreens (any launchers) & lockscreens. In gallery etc, it's perfectly black since no overlay.
I don't think there is a fix. U can use a slightly greyish instead of full black wallpaper. It's not a big problem though
Oh i understand. Thank you for help. I was thought my phone has a problem.
Sometimes the grey lines can appear in Samsung mobiles if you use a bad launcher or a theme which is not compatible with the phone. You can try updating to a new version and see if fixes the problem, or use a light gray wallpaper as already suggested. Another couple of things to try... take a screenshot of your phone and test it on your laptop to see if the lines are still there. If not then it could be a problem with the screen itself. It's also worth restarting your phone in Safe Mode as this mode only runs with pre-installed apps. If you don't see the lines then an app could be your culprit
After days of searching for a way to force proper full screen mode WITHOUT the thick black bar I finally found one. However, it puts all notification/status icons already on the left under the camera. I'm so close to a perfect solution but this one thing is in my way.
Ideally I'd like to move all icons right but messing with the padding might be a good plan B.
Please help. It's driving me mental.
If you are referring to any notification icon and/or the clock, there really isn't any way to move those without doing a bunch of work on a rooted device creating your own theme basically. Also what thick black bar are you talking about for fullscreen? the bars are only present if whatever is being displayed isn't a 20:9 ratio. so any 16:9 (like most 1080p) media will get the bars. but everything else should be full screen by ensuring Setting>Display>Advanced>Front camera display area is on the right setting.

That's disappointing.
I have managed to move the clock to the right with edXposed via Gravitybox. It's just notifications now. Don't suppose you'd know if it's possible to disable the icons but still have notifications for those apps show up in the notification drop-down?
And that camera display area, when enabled, is the black bar I'm talking about. It's unsightly and a waste of space. Using the mod I found, all apps but Ookla Speed Test fill the ENTIRE to screen beautifully with no essential UI elements blocked by the camera. Landscape or portrait.

Only thing I can think of for the notifications is make them all "Other" instead of important. you would have to do that per app and per notification type that each app shows. Long clicking them in the drop down gives you the option to change it there. But that also means you need to enable "important and other notifications" on lock screen if you want them to show up there.; however, I can't find a way to allow "other" notifications to display on the Ambient display. I do use the AOD notify app and that could be a nice workaround for that as that will still light up for notifications that are labeled as "other" over the Ambient display and you can then color code each app to what you want.

Thanks for the tip. I changed the media apps I use to not important and that seems to have taken care of my issue for the most part.
Its not a perfect solution but it's the best and most helpful so far. Thank you, mate.

Hey @shadowofdeth, I have bought the OP8 recently and I too wish to reduce the height of the status bar(I don't mind the punch hole using the app space since most apps have the logo only at the top left). You said you have used a mod to reduce the space. Was it the edXposed or is it something else? Thanks in advance
