[Q] Where to buy a s6 edge unlocked and international? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As many of you may know, at&t verizon and the whole lot decided it'd be a great idea to delete apps like smart manager and preload their own bloatware. I see people on youtube from android authority and phone arena and such making first looks and tips&tricks videos and their phones seem like international unlocked versions.
I'm wondering if anyone here knows where I could go about purchasing one? I tried amazon but it came in yesterday and it was clearly fake so I shipped it back. If amazon is my only option, or ebay, do any of you know like...legitimate sellers/merchants from those sites that I can buy from? I really don't want to get it and return it again over and over. It's a hassle.
Thanks yall.

Check out Never MSRP that's where I bought a SM-G925F Global phone from. I recently switched to an international phone (SM-G920I). Both work on GSM networks like AT&T and T-Mobile. You just have to choose which specific radio bands is right for you. Also note that some are saying the I/F phones aren't carrier aggregated or fine tuned for major US carriers so your LTE speeds may not be quite on par as carrier specific devices. But for me my SM-G920I works great on T-Mobile. Anyhow there are other sellers out there but Never MSRP where very helpful with returns and fast with shipping.

If you are outside of the European Union then they will ship it at the VAT free price. They also offer the free option of removing the region lock by making the 5 minute call first.

Had to remove all the links you included or it wouldn't let me reply/quote you. Anyways, I looked around and found out that the i version is for latam and this is what I found:
Also known as Samsung Galaxy S6 edge SM-G925
Available versions: SM-G9250 (China, HK), SM-G925A (AT&T), SM-G925F (Global), SM-G925FQ (Turkey), SM-G925I (LATAM, Singapore, India, Australia), SM-G925K (Korea), SM-G925L, SM-G925S (Korea), SM-G925T (T-Mobile)
It says that the i is latam, singapore and so on but you say that it's working well? How are your 4g speeds and stuff? Also what phone is the g920i that you're using and is there a particular reason you switched FROM the g925f global one? Because to me, it'd make more sense to have one that's global rather than one that's supposedly for latam/sing etc. Idk I'm very inexperienced with this stuff.

Hi ya no worries. The reason I switched from the "F" to the "I" was because others had mentioned there was a problem with the radios receiving LTE reception as good on networks such as AT&T when comparing side-by-side a provisioned model like the 925A. The "A" model is provisioned and tuned for the AT&T GSM network. The "F" model still got LTE but it would drop to 4G quicker than the "A" model while sitting right next to it. Being that the "I" model is almost the same as the "F", minus a couple of radio bands, some decided to shift to that one for GSM networks like AT&T. The LTE receptions were much better and I have to agree because I'm getting frequent LTE signals and great speeds on the GSM network T-Mobile.
So keep in mind that you have to see which models radio bands are compatible for the network you intend to use it on. The issue with the "F" model is specific to those who were trying to use it on the US GSM network such as AT&T but probably not an issue for the rest of the worlds GSM network.
Hope that helps.

So what I'm getting is that although the f model is meant for international use and the i model is specifically for lat am, singapore and such, it still has better lte reception than the f model in the US?

Basically you are going to have to decide what bands your phone will be connected to in order to determine which model, the F or the I, would most benefit for you situation. The reception will be based on your vicinity or obstructions to the towers and any latency from those towers to your service providers network. So if your service provider uses bands 2 and 17 for their towers, then either F or I would work just the same.
Here are the LTE bands for each:
SM-G920F (Specifications link):
B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B12(700), B17(700), B18(800), B19(800), B20(800), B26(800)
SM-G920I (Specifications link):
B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B12(700), B17(700), B18(800), B19(800), B26(800), B28(700) and B40(2300)
So the "I" is missing bands 4 and 20 from the "F" and adds band 40 that the "F" does not have.
Hope that clears it up.

pls i need your help friends Whats the difference between SM G925 and SM G925f? A friend bought SM G925 from Dubai for me to be used in Africa(Nigeria)? SM G925f is the model been sold here.
Can the phone be used here without unlocking?
Would it be region locked?
Would it be differnt from SM G925f?
Would i encounter problems using it?
Would there support(here on xda developers) and other sites for it?
Would i receive timely updates from Samsung directly?
Pls i do really need you guys to help out with answers asap as he is coming home on Monday
Thanks loads

I picked up a sm-g920s while i was vacationing in south Korea for $600 tax free cash. Brand new, sealed, and I've used tools to verify its authenticity. Unfortunately i did not do enough research on the bands when i bought it. Got back, got a t-mobile sim and can't even get 4G or LTE. So now only on their 3G network. Waiting on custom ROMs to come out to remove the bootloader SK Telecom has on the phone. I've rooted the device, but the bootloader prevents me from accessing their hidden menus to change the network bands. All our phones can work on all bands, but you just have to enable them and overide the service providers customization.

Galaxy S4 market variants - LTE bands (incl UK vs US)

Hi all, I'm a long time user on XDA but I think this is my first new thread, so be nice
I'm keen to build up a list of LTE bands supported by the various variants of the S4. Current specs online seem to be fairly sketchy on what LTE bands are going to be supported by our pre-order phones. The general consensus from most sites is that the overall network frequencies supported will be:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900MHz
HSPA+ 850/900/1900/2100MHz
LTE Cat3 Up to 6 different band sets (dependent on market)
Click to collapse
I'm pretty much set on getting myself an S4 however unsure on what I'm actually buying into at the moment. I'm UK based (on o2 currently) but travel to the US several times a year. I've had the HTC Sensation XE which supports 1700MHz and therefore allows me HSPA connection on T-Mobile USA, and their $3/day prepaid tariff is brilliant. Going forward AT&T is also a possibility but their tariffs are a bit steeper (seem to need to pay for a month at a time).
So... what I'd like to do is pull together a list of supported bands for phones sold in various markets/regions/countries, as we get more detail on LTE bands supported. If folks are happy to post links to detail/evidence then I will compile this into a list. Would prefer to stick to the E-UTRA Operating Band numbers as opposed to frequencies.
For my own situation specifically, I'd also be keen to understand:
- Bandings of those phones sold by Carphone Warehouse UK, o2 UK, EE, AT&T, T-Mobile US
- There's a list of LTE bands on the S4 page on Wikipedia (so a big pinch of salt required): 700, 800, 1700, 1800, 1900, 2600 MHz. Is this likely to be the base European offering? If so, what band numbers would these correspond to, since a lot of the frequencies are used by several bands?
- AT&T apparently uses 700MHz for LTE - is that nationwide or just certain states picked up through acquisition of smaller carriers?
- Is T-Mobile US likely to get a special variant to support HSPA at 1700MHz?
- How widely has T-Mobile US reapportioned HSPA at 1900MHz (from the old MPC)
- If a new handset is bought outright at AT&T or T-Mobile USA, will they provide an unlock code free of charge?
List
(reserved to set out a master list as information comes in)

Thanks for the list - I think there's a semantic issue here though which reflects much more widely than this particular forum. For me this is about markets (e.g. countries, retailers and carriers) and in each these markets, what LTE bands will be accessible if I buy a i9505 handset. Will all of Europe and North America get the same LTE access? My impression was no. We could go quite granular with this...
UK:
Carphone Warehouse - i9505 with LTE band a, b, c, d, e, f
EE - i9505 with LTE band a, b, c, d, e, f
o2 - i9505 with LTE band a, b, c, d, e, f
Three - i9505 with LTE band a, b, c, d, e, f
Vodafone - i9505 with LTE band a, b, c, d, e, f
USA:
AT&T - i9505 with LTE band a, b, c, d, e, f
T-Mobile - i9505 with LTE band a, b, c, d, e, f
Verizon - i9505 with LTE band a, b, c, d, e, f
Sprint - i9505 with LTE band a, b, c, d, e, f
etc etc...
In a country like the UK it could be the case that all of the retailers and networks all support the same bands... but I just don't know for now. For the US that probably won't be the case.
Potentially we could build up a picture for all countries?

I've been waiting to find out more information about this as well.
I'm in Canada on the Roger's network, and when I visit the US, I too use the T-Mobile $3 a day plan.
Unlike the S3, does this mean that all North American S4 variants will be the same phone (Telus, Rogers, Wind, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc)? If so, does that mean that if I purchase any S4 in North America that it will work on all North American cell networks?
Thanks!

Pleased to hear I'm not the only one looking for this detail. It seems to odd to me that something's going on sale in just over a week but we aren't informed of exactly what it is. If Carphone Warehouse would confirm their model includes LTE on bands 3, 4, 7 and 20, I'd pre-order a sim-free phone right now
I'm hoping to find out what are the frequencies 9500 support, not 9505.
Because 9505 has already been revealed.
If, within US, the bandwidths are carrier-dependent, what about international 9500?
I live in the US and I'm also very interested in LTE band info amongst the different variants. I have the Verizon GS4 [SCH-I545] on preorder and currently using the AT&T Galaxy Note [SGH-I717]. I know absolutely nothing about UK carriers or their LTE bands etc, but know a pretty good bit about the US so I'll layout some of the info I have so far. Also I travel to Japan a lot so I would be interested in their LTE info as well.
Firstly, the GT-I9505 is not a variant that is intended for the North American market. (We are special and Samsung always makes us special ones ) It can probably be bought online in the US, but no carrier is selling that model and I wouldn't expect it to be compatible with any LTE in the US (though it could work).
LTE Bands US carriers use that I know of:
AT&T (Evidence)
Currently Used Bands: 4, 17
(Band 17 is the only one I've actually seen when I look at my phone and I believe is used in all their LTE markets nationwide so far)
Future Use: WCS Band [EUTRA unnumbered ~2300Mhz]
(Evidence)
Potential Future Use: 2, 5
(See SGH-I337 supported bands for evidence)
Verizon (Evidence)
Currently Used Bands: 13
Future Use: 4
(Verizon to begin rolling out band 4 Summer 2013)
T-Mobile (Evidence)
Currently Used Bands: 4
LTE Bands of North American GS4 Varients:
AT&T SGH-I337
Bands: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 17
(Samsung Website Shows Bands 1,4,7,17 and FCC License Testing shows Bands 2,4,5,17 [Bands 1, 7 are not used in the US, therefore FCC doesn't care to test them.])
I think Samsung made a typo on their site listing all the bands because FCC documents proves that this phone can operate LTE on band 2 and 5.
Verizon SCH-I545
Bands: 4, 13
(Evidence and Evidence)
T-Mobile SGH-M919
Bands: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 17
(Evidence and Evidence)
Sprint SPH-L720
Bands: 25
(Evidence and Evidence)
LTE Bands on International Variant:
GT-I9505
Bands: 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20
(This is my best guess based on the this info. However, 800 and 850 could be any combination of bands 5,6,18,19,20,26,27. Also 1800 could be either band 3 or 9. Some of these are subsets of others.)
(Also, this proves that it at least has LTE band 5.)
I can post more info as I come across it, but hopefully this will get you started.
do you know if the s4 is the same everywhere for frequencies and then limited via software or it actually has different hardware? I'm referring to the s4's in the USA vs the international version.

Would this international version with Bands: 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20. work on Rogers highest speed LTE Band 7?? EVEN though this phone is unable to connect to rogers LTE band 4???
Answers to this question will be thanked!
All of the major japanese LTE carriers (not counting emobile who is a minor player) operate their primary network on band 1.
Softbank bands 1/18 (and band 41 TD-LTE)
Docomo bands 1/19/21 (band 3 to come)
au bands 1/11/18
Emobile band 3
Docomo is the only carrier with the S4 (phones are bought locked, subsided via a carrier shop 99.9% of the time in Japan). The japanese variant (SC-04E) only interoperates on band 1. The radio claims band 4 support but I was never able to make it operate with T-mobile LTE.

Many of the versions of the S4 have different hardware, but for the ones that do have the same hardware (all the US versions), it's hard to tell whether the frequencies are set through software or hardware. I imagine the only way to verify would be to, for example, try an AT&T modem on a Verizon phone and see if it can connect to AT&T LTE band 17. If not, then either there are deeper incompatibilities between the two phones, or the hardware is not able to receive that band.

I am inclined to say yes, except that via Samsung's website it has a disclaimer stating that the bands it supports depends on the market. Which I interpret as meaning that the supported bands depend on where you buy the phone. So perhaps if you bought the phone in a market where band 7 is utilized, it would likely work. (Assuming it's unlocked.)

According to Samsung's spec page on the SC-04E The phone only supports "800,1500,2100MHz" which I assume are bands 1, 19, 21 as the phone was intended for operation on Docomo which uses all 3 of those bands on their network.
If you are referring to the service mode menu when you say "the radio claims band 4 support" I have found that to be an incorrect for all of samsung's phones lately. For example, my Verizon Galaxy S4 service mode menu claims it supports bands 2,3,4,5,7,8,17,20 which is completely false as Verizon operates only on band 13 at this moment and this phone absolutely doesn't support AT&T's band 17.

I have not gotten anything but a band 1 connection on my SC-04E, in areas with only platinum-band service (i.e. anything in the mountains) only UMTS..

Not entirely sure I understand this post, but I'll try to respond anyways. From what I can tell, the platinum-band in Japan refers to any bands in the 700-900Mhz range? So for Docomo, that would be their 800MHz band 19 allocation, which according to this map, they have almost no coverage with that band (the orange parts of the map) unless you live in the Chūgoku region. Their map does not distinguish between band 1 and band 21 but, based on an article I read here, it is safe to say that there won't be significant deployments of band 21 until after March 2014, and that even then they will only be in "key metropolitan areas" according to the article.
All that is to say, that I think it's clear that the vast majority of Docomo's LTE network is deployed with band 1, so therefore it makes sense that you have only seen that band being utilized on your phone. As for the mountains, again refer to the map, they don't have much of any LTE coverage in the mountains so it makes sense that you are limited to UMTS there.
Thanks guys for this detailed info, it does bring some hope for me to use my S4 bought in the UK in the USA while I travel for a week.
So just to confirm, a Vodafone UK phone would work in T-Mobile USA network on 4G speeds?
Also, I want to know more on the Three-UK's "Feel at Home" offer - did anyone use their S4 in the USA and how was your experience with this?
you UK version will only work with T-Mobile 1900Mhz 21Mbit 3g where they use it (very few places) It won't work on 4g lte.
Bear pricing in mind. I was in the US for 5 days a few weeks back but on three. I used their new free USA roaming. Between 1 and 2 GB hspa+ and all included. Worked great on s4 i9505

The US version just has some extra frequency bands for T-Mobile. They mostly operate on a different band in the US than they do in other countries. If you're not using US T-Mobile, there's really no reason to buy the US version. The Global version will work a little more reliably for you.

The global version will likely work a *lot* more reliably for you if you're outside the United States. The U.S. version doesn't add extra frequencies, it trades those frequencies for other frequencies. So the U.S. version cannot work on certain frequencies that the global version can, and vice-versa. (The U.S. version cannot do HSPA on 900MHz while the global one can, and the U.S. version doesn't support networks that use 2100MHz for the downlink and 1900 for the uplink...its 2100MHz support is limited to AWS downlink.) This means that the U.S. version will, in a large percentage of countries, be limited to using EDGE networks. It really is too bad that Motorola couldn't manage to make a single model that covers all of these bands...
My impression is that there are very few carriers worldwide that operate on band 4/AWS-1. T-Mobile U.S. is probably the largest one, and even they are actually in the process of refarming their spectrum. My understanding is that they are turning down some 850MHz 2G transmitters, moving some HSPA+ over to that spectrum and some to 1900/2100 (band 1), and then re-using their AWS-1 spectrum for LTE. Once that happens, even the global version of the Moto G will work fine on T-Mobile. The global version already works on AT&T, and if you are in a metro area where T-Mobile has already completed the spectrum shuffle, the global version will work for you, too (and allow you to use your phone on HSPA networks if you ever travel outside of the country!). So for many people in the U.S., I would argue that the global version might actually make more sense, especially looking forward.

the US version will only have internet with Claro bc it has hspa 850mhz while its missing 900mhz in hspa (orange internet)

[Q] Unlock AT&T Note edge

I recently purchased a note edge that I was told was unlocked. I was going to use it with Verizon, but it was not unlocked.
I contacted AT&T, but they would not help me unlock it because the person that I bought it from had apparently not paid their bill.
Does anyone know if the phone will work with Verizon if it is unlocked, and if I use a pay site, which ones work, and are the quickest? If it wont, I am going to put it on SWAPPA.
I eventually want to root it.
Thanks for your help.

1st off, buying a phone that the seller didn't pay off, is bad news, they can block the ESN and it will never be unlocked.
2nd, This is an AT&T version, which cannot be rooted, no DEV wants to go through the problem of unlocking the bootloader.
3rd, you needed to post this in the Q&A forum, this is for Development only (Which will probably never happen)
4th, I used a seller on eBay to unlock mine, but he no longer unlocks AT&T phones
5th, Verizon is a CDMA carrier and AT&T is a GSM carrier. With todays dual-radio phones, it might still work, but not sure.
6th, SWAPPA will not let you sell a phone where the EMIE isn't clean. (Try eBay)
Hope some of this helps.

All you to do is go (my apologizes it was supposed to say go not "gay". If I offended anyone I'm sorry) on eBay and buy an unlock code, it will cost you about $20. As for using it on Verizon, I don't think that's possible because AT&T phones don't have the required cdma radios

He would get LTE, but doubt the phone itself would work. LTE is a GSM technology, So for CDMA carriers to have LTE, they would need a sim card and GSM radio also. Therefore the introduction of the dual radio phones.
Verizon:
FREQUENCIES AND DATA TYPE
CDMA Data - 1x and EVDO Rev0/RevA;
2G GSM: GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900;
2G CDMA: CDMA800, USPCS1900;
3G UMTS: B1(2100), B2(1900), B5(850), B8(900);
3G CDMA: BC0(800), BC1(1900);
4G FDD LTE: B4(AWS), B13(700)***
AT&T:
FREQUENCIES AND DATA TYPE
2G GSM: GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900;
3G UMTS: B1(2100), B2(1900), B5(850);
4G FDD LTE: B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B17(700), B20(800);
So where ever Verizon is using Band 4, LTE should not be a problem.
I managed to get an unlock Code.
I got my unlock code, and it worked. The phone said that it was successfully unlocked.
I added the Verizon APN settings, but it still did not work correctly. When I tried to dial out, it said "Emergency calls only".
It works great on AT&T, but I am still grandfathered in on the Verizon unlimited plan.
Any suggestions? Here is the link I used. http://apn-settings.com/verizon-4g-lte-apn-settings-detailed-configuration-steps/

You can't on At&t devices, the only way is to call At&t and ask them to do it! Also, if your esn is blocked you'll probably never get it unlocked.

Turn in AT&T variant for International?

Hello. I bought an AT&T variant of the S6. I haven't had a carrier branded phone in a long time (as my signature shows), so I was surprised at the bloat, not only from AT&T, but from Samsung. This leads to my question...
Would it benefit me to return my AT&T phone and buy an international version? My concerns are as follows:
1. I'm only slightly worried about the LTE bands/IMEI issues since I use Straight Talk mainly (I'm only on AT&T long enough for them to unlock my phone [60 days]). I'm wondering if Straight Talk would even understand the issues with the IMEI not being registered, or if I'd be stuck on AT&T paying a higher prepaid amount.
2. For those who have bought an international version, what kind of charger came with it? I asked an eBay seller who has several 920I's listed if it comes with a Samsung U.S. fast charger, and they said 'no'. If not, I guess we're on our own to buy a charger/fast charger?
Any answers would be much appreciated.

Return it. I am using SM-G920F International Version on AT&T network. It's way faster and I've already received an update improving stability of the device. Also, check with AT&T about which LTE bands are operating in your area. Atlanta, for example, is operating on LTE bands 17 and 4. Since SM-G920F does not have band 17 support, I am only able to receive band 4 LTE. Keep in mind that AT&T's main LTE band is 17, which covers most areas and SM-G920F does not have that support. You won't receive LTE if AT&T operates on band 17 in your area.
Also, the charger you will receive is Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger.

I have been looking into the 920I, which, by this eBay seller's listing supports LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 17 & 26. That should cover about everything in the U.S., correct?
Also, I haven't read any threads about rooting/flashing custom recovery (because no way to do so right now on AT&T version), but I'm assuming the 920I or F both already have root methods and custom recoveries, right?
EDIT: I just found a 920F on eBay, and it lists the following connections (including LTE band 17):
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G bands LTE B1(2100), B2(1900), B3(1800), B4(1700/2100AWS), B5(850), B7(2600), B8(900), B12(700), B17(700), B18(800), B19(800), B20(800), B26(800).
Sure yours doesn't support band 17?
From my understanding. The international model does support Band 17.

Thanks for the answers. Has anyone been able to verify this? I'm looking at two eBay sellers with 99.9% ratings over thousands of items sold, and both are listing band 17 on LTE as supported.
EDIT: D'oh! I misread your post as reading 'do not' support band 17. My apologies.

Above site doesn't list band 17. From my experience, I was never connected to band 17 LTE using AT&T. It was either Band 4 LTE or Band 2 Hspa+. Maybe I am missing something or AT&T towers lock Band 17 LTE for AT&T branded devices.
I am not ATT customer. Bought ATT version and have a weeks battle to get unlock code after paying full price at bb. Yes, it has tons of ATT and Samsung bloatware. Took it back and get G9201i from eBay seller Breed. Loving it and working flawlessly on cricket which uses ATT towers.

That website is one and only website that an actual person cross references with the government integrity registration from FCC and oversea government organizations as well. Since SM-G920I model does have band 17 and 4, you will be perfectly fine with using it on AT&T's network. Sorry for the earlier confusion (I thought you were referring to SM-G920F model, which is the one that I am using).
Just to add: voLTE feature is disabled on international versions right now. It should be enabled in the future.
Thanks! Any reason cited that it's disabled? I mean, I could care less anyway, just wondering.

Dear Mr lan, do you get LTE? I'm using G920i and my provider is ATT, I never get LTE here in New York.
My main concern now is if I'll have any problems with LTE on Straight Talk. I'm guessing the only reason one may not get LTE is if their provider doesn't have their IMEI registered as an LTE device. I can only imagine Straight Talk's reaction to someone asking them to register their IMEI.

No European charger or adapter. It was a standard Samsung fast charger. That's what it says on side and when I plug to the phone it recognizes it as a fast charger.

I am currently using the oneplus one, but like to try the galaxy note 5. I saw this one on ebay and wonder if this will work with tmobile 4G LTE Band.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Samsung...locked-GOLD-/361372540381?hash=item54237b5ddd
It saids LTE B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/25/26/28/38/39/40/41 from his listing.
But does tmobile use 1700/2100MHz is it band 4?
Just little afraid getting it from overseas in case no LTE with tmobile
Based on the supported bands it will work with most Tmobile bands except HSPA (3G) on the 1700 band. You will also not have WiFi calling or VoLTE on band 12 since it's not a certified device. You would be better off buying the tmobile note 5 N920T unless those things I mentioned don't matter to you.
Supported Bands:
2G/Voice Bands: 850/900/1800/1900
3G/HSPA Bands: 850/900/1900/2100
LTE Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/12/17/25/26/28/38/39/40/41

If the phone is not paid off I would not buy it. I would use an upgrade, Jump or Jump on Demand. Jump on Demand would probably be best if you like to switch phones often.
